Personally I’ve found that iZerker works alright in WvW if you’re actually directly on the frontline, which is generally when close-quarters players start to close the distance with rush/leap moves. There are few AoEs coming down at that point (besides might stacking, etc and they aren’t that common), and most of them are aimed dead ahead, and they don’t really start to rain till the lines have met.
I try to hit the midline (avoiding the rushers) with an iZerker and usually get at least one spin in because everyone is looking at the zerg coming in directly in front of them and not at their flanks where said phantasm tends to show up. The cripple is nice, the damage is very decent, and a lot of players will use up a dodge to try and avoid it, either way you’re doing your zerg a service. As a utility type character in a zerg, I feel that my entire task becomes to try and make things easier for the rest of my zerg. Ie. I help where I can and they do the final killing. I really only wade in close when I see a specific opportunity: an enemy rezzer, downed friendly, nearly-downed enemy, etc.
But I digress.
Aside from the above, I also find the iZerker to be useful for cutting down stragglers so the horde can catch them or discouraging rezzers (no-one wants to be kneeling next to a downed player while a spinning purple ghost thing is hitting them for several thousand), again acting in line with a utility position in a zerg.
Granted, the above don’t always work, but I do feel that iZerk (amongst the other GS skills) make it worth taking the GS in WvW as long as mesmers start thinking in a utility mentality while in a zerg rather than the duelling mindset many of us are so comfortable in.
6/10
While I like the name as a sort of nickname or as a poetic descriptor, I can’t imagine any set of parents naming their child that. I do like it out of context though.
Kaede Varr: Noble-born Mesmer
Akemi Varr: Noble-born Engineer (Younger sister, perhaps?)
Cymea Varr: Noble-born Elementalist (Adopted, of Elonian descent)
The Varrs are an Ascalonian noble line (or at least that’s what I told Logan when he started asking me personal questions. Cheeky bugger.) who settled in Kryta following Rurik’s exodus. Connections with Cantha were formed via intermarriage, hence the Canthan-ish names.
Tianne Moravel – Yet another noble, this one a warrior home-grown in Kryta.
Ciani Fallstar – Street-rat ranger of Elonian descent, I used the name Fallstar in GWI for several characters as more of a title than a name.
Nice looking characters, everyone. Hope for the human race yet, eh?
I like to mix and match different armour sets with weapons and such to try and create a unique style/feel to the character, so I spend a lot of time looking for the right dye combination, these leggings with those shoulders, etc. etc.
In order:
*Kaede Varr: Noble born Mesmer, Commander, and has first rights to everything and anything pretty any of my other characters pick up. My main and first love.
*Cymea Varr: (Adopted) noble born Elementalist, needs a better staff but I can’t decide what skin would suit her best.
*Akemi Varr: Noble born Engineer, tinkerer who has spent a lot of her time just making pistols for Kaede to use and, recently, has her inventory full of stuff that didn’t fit in my bank. Poor girl.
*Tianne Moravel: Noble born Warrior, visual ties to the Ebon Vanguard. Needs new boots.
*Ciani Fallstar: Street-rat Ranger who just can’t decide what bow she wants to wield. Always dreamed of joining the circus, but not every dream can come true. Almost as tragic as Akemi. Poor thing.
I have a couple of other humans but they are not yet fit for public display.
This is one of my three warriors – the second was just put up in the Syvari thread and I’m not that vain and the third, a Charr, is going through a makeover at the moment so won’t show her face till she’s all prettied-up.
Tianne Moravel, human noble, clad in a variety of different pieces to try and get the look I was going for.
Nice looking mesmers! But then we always were the most stylish class.
This is my main, Kaede Varr; she just needs her Arah leggings and then she will be complete (small guild, agreed to do Dungeon Master together, so it takes time).
I am frequently told she looks evil, which I suppose the Arah leggings won’t help, though I generally take it as a compliment anyway.
And I think I need to stand side-by-side with Minaharker for the whole ying-yang/black-white look at some point…

Some fantastic looking Sylvari from people!
Here is Drosera Aldrovanda, Sylvari Necromancer of the Cycle of Dusk.
Following is Aecia Chaerophi, Thief of the Cycle of Night.
And lastly is Araciea Senguine, Warrior of the Cycle of Noon.
None of them are my real main, but I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make my characters look good (at least to my definition of the word). Drosera still needs better gloves and shoes, for example… but we’ll get there.

It’s awesome for him, yes, the undeserving ape. No, I’m not bitter! At all! Not even a little! Ah swearz.
I had to work hard for my Legendary (first member of my guild to get one), but since then no less than three of them have picked up precursors from random drops or chests… and we’re not a large guild.
Eh, it’s a thing, and I am actually happy for him.
8/10 (for Hilda)
7/10 (for Ulva, mostly because Moontooth sounds a little Charr-ish to me)
But I quite like them, Norn-ish and wolf-ish at the same time. Very fitting, I feel.
Fulvianna Vallakind (F)- Guardian, all resplendent in gold and white, etc.
First name was (loosely) inspired by the word “effulgent” (Radiant, shining, etc.), ending in a vowel to make it sound a little more feminine.
Last name from Valhalla (you know, Norse afterlife/paradise/Eden) and -kind (child).
Alea Leichedottir (F)- Necromancer, dark and creepy, etc.
Alea was mostly just a name I’ve used before, seemed to fit.
Leichedottir was derived from a combination of the German word for corpse and the old Nordic “dottir” (daughter). So Alea Corpse-daughter. A little morbid maybe, but…
Had a couple of decent scraps last night against SBI and Yak’s Bend, particularly in EB and IoJBL. Some very fun engagements. My guild and I also had some interesting scraps in YBBL. Good times, and I’d like to thank everyone who fought us.
I’d also like to extend my personal hatred/thanks/something something to the player who died to my guildie and dropped Dawn for him. Yes. It happened.
…After he’d only just come on and agreed to WvW for a few minutes.
Why. Why? Why!? Why not me!?
…This won’t end well.
I actually love doing that sort of thing. I’ve done the Black Citadel to Divinity’s Reach, The Grove to Hoelbrak, Divinity’s Reach to Fort Trinity, Deep and Troubled Waters to the Gates of Arah.
There have been others, but usually shorter trips – like just wandering through Ascalon or northern Kryta.
I’ve bound a toggle-walk key and I like to actually the use the roads where possible, walking along, taking in the sights (often enough in town clothes) and helping along any events or players I come across while underway.
9/10, very suitable, I just don’t believe in perfect scores so that makes 9/10 kind of like a perfect score (I’m going to stop now).
Mine are likely to get rather low scores considering they don’t really fit in with lore, but they let me get my biology on since all the names are inspired by the scientific names of various plants aaaand I felt like sharing.
Drosera Aldrovanda – Necromancer of the Vigil
Aecia Chaerophi – Thief of the Order of Whispers
Araciea Seguine – Warrior of the Order of Whispers
Yeah, same happened here on IoJ.
I missed one (I think). 25 bags, no mask. Figured I might be missing something.
Fantastic artwork! I’ll almost certainly be requesting a portrait at some point in the coming future.
