Probably their unique look and backstory made me pick them. Later on when I learned more about their lore I decided to stay with them (with a norn between my first sylvari and now my main sylvari). They’re just SO awesome! Definitely my favourite race along with the norn.
Is there any info regarding the gestation period? Do they dream for years or months (weeks would probably be a bit on the short side)?
There doesn’t seem to be anything about this but I can tell you that it took about 200 years from the tree’s planting to the first golden fruits to bloom and give birth to the firstborn sylvaris (Caithe being one of them). That was 25 years ago in the current in-game time.
But if I have to guess I’d say it’d probably take a couple of years for the gestation period (1-4 years. Sounds realistic to me).
Yes GW2 needs more hair styles but mostly for the sylvari and asura. Their hair selection is way too small.
Sure the charr also got few hair styles but hair isn’t that big of a deal for them. It’s more horns and face.
Before sylvaris are technically born they live in The Dream. Here they learn knowledge from the Pale Tree and about their Wyld Hunt (goal of life I think) but only few sylvaris experience the Wyld Hunt.
Here is a small piece of the explaination of The Dream at the gw2 wiki:
“The Dream of Dreams, also known as the Inner Dream or just the Dream, is the name of the mysterious state of consciousness sylvari experience prior to their “awakening” into the real world. In this state, they experience visions of the outer world and become acquainted with it through the past experiences of other sylvari. In this way, they learn things both trivial and vital about their future lives. Although the Dream is left behind by sylvari upon awakening in the real world, everything a sylvari experiences in his or her subsequent life is added to the Dreams of sylvari not yet born."
Sylvaris are in some way born as adults so The Dream is used to gather knowledge while humans have their childhood to gain knowledge.
I like the ideas of new weapons!
I’ve also made a thread about it also mentioning crossbows and polearms (but more like 2-handed axes than spears and scythes) but I have to admit I can’t find place for the cleaver in GW2. Isn’t it just a 1-handed axe that looks a little bit like a dagger?
The whip could be a possibility. But I can’t see a dark, sneaky, assassinating thief walk around with a whip. A ranger could use it instead. Makes more sense (since whips are mostly used to control animals).
If a warrior is going to use pistols I think it’s going to be for both main- and off-hand since that’s how it works for all the warrior’s 1-handed weapons. And I was told in my thread that the thief is a close-/mid-range profession and shouldn’t use any
long-ranged weapons (I suggested the longbow).
I’d like to see more ideas from you! And do check out my ideas in my thread!
Could be a possibilty.
More weapons for each profession equals more skills. New weapons also equals more skills.
My ideas for more equipable weapons for professions:
Elementalist: Main-hand swords (mid-range AOE), warhorns (boons/conditions).
Warrior: Main-hand/Off-hand guns (conditions).
Guardian: main-hand axes (dmg/cripple), off-hand maces (support/wards).
Engineer: Hammers (knockback/heal turrets), main-hand maces (stun/heal turrets).
Ranger: Hammers (mid-range AOE).
Necromancer: Main-hand swords (swapping boons and conditions), torches (AOE burn/poison).
Thief: Off-hand swords (stun/dmg).
Mesmer: Main-hand guns (confusion), main-hand maces (daze/distortion).
My ideas for new weapons:
Two-handed axes: Can be called polearms. Used by warriors, guardians and (maybe) necromancers.
- Warrior: Focuses on crippling and immobilizing a handful of enemies with close-range heavy swings.
- Guardian: Deals high close-range DMG while blocking and countering attacks from nearby and far away.
- Necromancer: Can gain life force and cause poison in close-/mid-range.
Crossbows: Can be one- or two-handed. If one-handed, used by thieves in both hands, rangers in main-hand and engineers in off-hand. If two-handed used by thieves, rangers, engineers and warriors.
- Thief: Uses skills to gain initiative and steal boons from the targeted enemy.
- Ranger: Combines burn, bleed and poison into great condition DMG from mid-/long-range.
- Warrior: A bit positioning of the enemy along with combined abilities of the longbow and the rifle.
- Engineer: Causes mid-/long-ranged DMG and cripple along with a skill that causes a delayed explosion on the target’s surroundings.
Hovering orbs: An off-hand only weapon. Used by elementalists, necromacers, guardians and mesmers.
- Elementalist: Gain boons by being attacked and mostly balances between offense and defense.
- Necromancer: Give poison and other conditions to nearby and attacking enemies.
- Mesmer: Phantasm that reflects DMG and immobilizing an enemy.
- Guardian: Can place a ward at the target from long-range and a symbol that causes aegis.
Feel free to come with your ideas and criticize mine!
Edit: Removed longbow from thief and warhorn from guardian. Added theme/focus
for each weapon. Added engineer in the crossbow list. Added theme/focus for the guardian orb. Added off-hand mace in the guardian list. Removed the gun from the ranger list (own decision).

Apparently there should start an event whenever the tree at Morgan’s Spiral dies but in this case there isn’t. I think it’s a bug but I’m not fully sure. Please check it, Arena Net.
