So at the moment I am playing a Diplomatic Norn Guardian.
Every time I get personality choices I alternate between Charm and Dignity but I’ve been searching the forums and I can’t seem to find any significance to the Personality choices.
Does it have any affect on the aesthetic of the game at all?
If it does, could someone post some examples of the different Personalities affecting things.
Thx
I’m a pretty new player but I find it annoying and kinda strange that Asura Gates don’t have their destinations listed on the Map. Every Gate is just called “Asura Gate”. Is there a specific reason it is this way?
I found it a bit annoying when I followed a friend to Lion’s Arch (my first time going there) and he told me to meet him at the Gate to the Human settlement of Divinity’s Reach. So naturally I got lost trying to find it in a city with something like 15 gates. Then when he were at the right platform he couldn’t even remember which Gate it was and my friend had to run up and down the 5 ramps until he found the one with the Human’s standing by it.
Sure, I guess, after time we’ll remember where each gate is eventually, but its just a bit of an inconvenience that its not labelled on the Map. Even Carrots, Onions, Potatoes, etc, are all listed so why not Asura Gates?
Well I decided to start with the Norn Defender. From what you guys have said I don’t think the Mesmer would be for me as a first choice. By Psychic Abilities I was looking for a assassin-like character that would use Confuse, Dazzle, Sleep etc, not a summoner which the Mesmer essentially is.
I was hoping for something a little more proactive and melee orientated so ’ll stick to the Guardian.
Thanks for the help.
really? I just read somewhere else that people thought they would get the items again in another mail on the new character but didn’t. But these posts were back in August. Is that a non issue now?

Cool, thanks.
I had seem some posts about people losing unique items they got when they bought the Deluxe Editions then deleted the first character they had which was holding the items. So I guess that problem is fixed now?

Can anyone give me an answer?
Hi,
I bought the game yesterday and was able to finish the download today. But after reading the forums I’ve seen some alarming posts about people who have deleted their first character and lost some irreplaceable items.
Is this true? If I don’t like my first character and delete immediately will I lose some items I can’t get back? If I cancel in CC will I also lose the items?
I’d really like an answer to this soon as I would like to start creating my first characters but like to know there’s no unforeseen consequences if I just create and delete at infinitum.
(I already know about the 24 hour name reservation which is cool)
Errr…. anyone have an answer for me? I see a couple posts on the forum from a while back about people complaining they deleted their first character an lost a bunch of non-replaceable items.
So I was reading the following sticky thread: OMG If you only knew this – tips for new players
But I got confused about one point.
9. Don’t delete your first character without first sending your backpack, goggles to your new char
Does this mean the first character you ever make gets a backpack and goggles while your subsequent others don’t?
Or does he just mean, in general, its a good idea to empty you character’s entire inventory to another character before you intend on deleting it?
If someone could clarify soon ‘cos I just bought the game and haven’t made my first character yet. =P

So I just bought the game today and am currently waiting for the endless amount of updates to finish downloading. (3.4Gigs is only 45%!!!)
But I’ve been trying to decide on a starting Profession which would be good for a noob to MMOs like me.
(I have played Titan Quest, Diablo 2 and some DnD Online)
I would like something with an easy learning curve but that doesn’t get stale at later levels; because if I start a character I would like to finish it.
I understand Race is not so important to gameplay but rather storyline, so I think Race will still come down to my personal preference.
At the moment I am torn between Norn Guardian or Charr Mesmer.
I would pick the Norn Guardian as I always find a “Paladin/Tanky-Defender” class the best to learn with especially if I don’t have a group to play with and have to solo missions.
But on the other hand the Charr Mesmer seems interesting to me as an Illusionist Cat would be a new character I haven’t seen before. However I have heard the Mesmer learning curve is quite steep and I feel like the class has a lot of clone/illusion spells when I was hoping for more psychic abilities.
Any suggestions would be great, even if you have completely new and inventive suggestions about the Professions.
Also, I’d like to know a little more about this Mesmer professions abilities if someone can shed some light on that.
Thanks
