The site below has community updated timers for all the large events like Dragons and Temples.
http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/
It is believed the timer windows for the Temples changed in the last update, hence those timers say beta.
Also, timers can usually be out by a few minutes depending on when someone updates it, but anyone can update them.
Also make sure you refresh the page often or set your browser to automatically refresh so you see the updated timers.
So I was all excited about the new daily choices but was very disappointed when they were so restrictive.
Essentially this game is a sandbox world but the dailies force you to move into certain areas. And, due to TP costs, this diminishes your returns on completing dailies.
But I was getting by as there always seemed to be 5 non-area-specific dailies to do. But today’s dailies seem completely impractical and expensive. Especially the eat 25 food! Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Even if I bought 25 loafs of bread it would still cost 10 silver!
With this latest Meat Scandal how can we be sure the meat the soldiers are getting in Butcher’s Block is really the meat they say it is?
How can we be sure we’re getting Moa and not Raptor?
And Dolyak instead of Cow?
Its all rather unsettling…
The problem with the Living Story mail is that it has the same Icon as the Personal Story. I had two friends think the mail was part of their Personal Story and so paid little attention to it, thinking they would deal with it eventually in the Storyline. They had no idea that this Living Story event is likely temporary.
all is fair in love and war
I was quite excited about the fact that Daily and Monthly Achievements now have a UI panel.
But why stop there?
Why not do what Valve has done in Team Fortress 2 and give all achievements a “show in UI” button so people can track the progress of specific achievements they’re trying to get.
I think it would be most useful when you’re trying to figure out how many more of a certain creature you need to kill for the next tier.
And would be particularly useful for such things like the Living Story.
(edited by Anonymous The Spy.2491)
I feel the Living Story quests needs a side progress bar on the UI like Dailies and the Personal Story line.
I had a friend online that knew nothing about the Living Story line, achievements or progress.
He’s playing a low level Sylvari and hasn’t gone near a main city or Norn/Charr areas in the last few days so knew absolutely nothing about the Living Story or the F&F Prelude Achievement.
(he thought the mail message was to do with his Personal Story)
It seems if you haven’t read the forum or news feed on the site you could possibly not know about this new story line or that it has a limited time to complete.
Its a bit ironic that to find out about new stories in Tyria that are meant to be immersive you need to break the proverbial fourth wall and read about it on the forums.
(edited by Anonymous The Spy.2491)
I always assumed that mechanical thing in the center of Divinity’s Reach was based off the Tyrian solar system.
Oh snap! Okay, next stop: Divinity’s Reach. I should really look up more often. =P
We don’t know if it has poles, but it does have North, South, East and West directions as well as an arctic sea to the north (thus an arctic area, implying a northern pole).
Actually the term Arctic comes from the Greek Arktos meaning “bear” or “near the bear”. So its really implying that there are bears up there =P
But they do seem to have stuck to the general Northern Hemisphere stereotype that most games/books use; with it being colder/darker in the North.
I’m just wondering. Is the world of Tyria flat or geoidal?
Does it circle a sun?
Does it have poles?
And does it have seasons?
(aw, wouldn’t it be cool if there were seasons in the game, like time-of-day? Would make Shiverpeak Mountains a nightmare in winter =D )
If you don’t care about mats and such like you seem to say. You can always burn the karma on skins for you new char, like going and getting a t3 cultural asura 2hander peacemaker sword and transmuting it to some low lvl blue, and giving it to new character. Or whatever floats your boat depending on your new char. Free weapon/armor skins if you just gonna delete him anyway.
Transmute will make things soulbound.
Put the items in the bank. Your new character will do the transmuting.
So I got this game half-way through the Wintersday Event so I’m not sure how these new expansions work.
I know the Frost and Flame: Prelude adds some new events, achievements and rewards.
But are they permanent?
Or are they similar to Wintersday and Halloween in that these sort of events have a certain time period in which you can complete them?
(Although this one hasn’t specified when it will end)
Next: Mesmer Charr
I would go with Engi cos you rarely see them and I’d like to see some variety =P
When you hover an area’s name on the World Map is should show that area’s details.
It seems with Queensdale it has no floating details and instead shows the details for the last area viewed.
In the jpeg example its Kessex Hills.
Ha ha, Mystic toilet =P
But most of the stuff you can get out of the Mystic forge is just for visual bling which, to be honest, means very little to me. I like how my character looks at the moment. =P
I would eventually like to max my crafting skill but its not a necessity while my inventory space and money are. I guess crafting will only be a side mission to me.
Yeah, I got the jist of it. Obviously I’m not too savvy with the abbreviations but I assume JC meant Jewel Craft.
I must say I am finding jewelery at lest somewhat useful as the stuff I can craft is better than what I find. And I can at least sell what I no longer need for a decent amount of coin.
But I’m finding that Chef’ing is just too much of a hassle for the reward. The fact that I need to scour the map for merchants (or scour the wiki if I’m lazy) just doesn’t seem worth it.
I guess they made it that way because the buffs you get from food cannot be gained any other way. But the money and free inventory space is starting to look more and more appealing.
Maybe, like you said, its best to sell all I don’t need/want and then just buy a few select ingredients if I really need something.
Could someone give me their opinion.
The more I look into crafting, especially cooking, I realize that the materials are becoming more and more widespread and rare. (Also I was unaware certain ingredients can only be bought from specific merchants)
So is it better just to sell all my ingredients and just buy what I need through BLTC?
Or can someone tell me if there’s some epic items worth grinding for at higher tiers?
that’s weird, mine doesn’t ask me and I sometimes regret salvaging an item.
I find that levelling is essentially half the game. And from there you continue your story, explore the world and fight your way through dungeons.
I just got to level 80 and I think I’m at about 22% world completion.
Any expansions, I feel, would be somewhere you would need to be fully equipped with the best items before you enter.
So I’ve just reached Level 80 but I’m in the 200s for Chef and 170s for Jeweller.
However I’m finding that I exhaust my available ingredients very quickly in the discovery tab and don’t have anything particularly amazing that I can craft at the moment.
The only recipes that interest me are the Dyes and the Desserts that give +X% Magic Find.
And, to be honest, the coins I can make off the ingredients in the BLTP seems much more inviting than holding onto all these ingredients, many of which take up space in my bank and inventory because they don’t have slots in the collections bank.
Are you possibly trying to chat to the NPC while they’re walking?
What can happen sometimes is that someone else has initiated a Skill Challenge with that NPC and then they’ve moved and the NPC has followed. Then, when the Skill Challenge resets the NPC moves back. Quite possibly you tried talking to the NPC when they hadn’t reset their original position.
Well just for future reference when a Guild is made is is available on all Worlds. Just the Influence pool is different per World.
Ah, forgot to mention which World I’m in. I’ve added that now.
Alva Gunnarsdottir.
Sounds good. As the surname does follow the conventions setup in the game’s mythology.
To be honest I’m not familiar with the first name but it does have its origin on Old Norse. Also it sounds like Alba which is a name I like. =P
As this thread went on a bit of a tangent and my name wasn’t commented here it is again:
Well I used the the wiki page for guidance on name generation:
Norn Names
And used Native American naming ideologues, of naming after a defining event at birth or childhood, to give my character a surname.
Dunrick Mauldeer
They mentioned that Charm, Ferocity, and Dignity were going to have meaning in the game later on. Maybe personal choices in the story will too.
Later on? You mean in an expansion? That seems like a bit of a rip off that they would add essential content and get s to pay extra to activate it.
So it is known that the Biography choices for Human regarding their God and the Norn choice of a Spirit have little to no affect on the game.
Obviously these choices were meant to affect their Elite Skills if you read the last paragraph of their pages on the Guild Wars 2 website:
Human
Norn
I believe they changed this before release so that people didn’t feel cheated if they didn’t like their choice in-game and also to make PVP and WvW even.
But perhaps there are some options to make these Biography Choices have some affect in-game. Obviously these can’t be game changing or permanent changes that people will ‘regret’ the entire game with that character.
Human:
- In storyline missions that have large battles you will have a priest of your Order in the battle. The profession of the Priest will be one commonly associated with their God:
Balthazar: Warrior
Dwayna: Elementalist (Water Attunement)
Grenth: Necromancer
Kormir: Guardian
Lyssa: Mesmer
Melandru: Ranger (Fern Hound pet)
- Or if your character kneels in-front of statues or talks to priests of your specific order they get Swiftness for 4 minutes and an appropriate boon for 1 minute
Balthazar: Might
Dwayna: Regen
Grenth: Might
Kormir: Stability
Lyssa: Protection
Melandru: Regen
- Or skills associated with your God are cheaper: (discount varies on initial cost, tier and the tier progression benefit the skills provide.)
Prayer to Komir would be instantly available when Utility skills first unlock.
Prayer to Dwayna would cost 1 point instead of 3.
Prayer to Lyssa would cost 1 point instead of 3.
Avatar of Melandru would cost 5 instead of 10.
Reaper of Grenth would cost 5 instead of 10.
Hounds of Balthazar would cost 20 instead of 30.
Norn
- Make the Spirit Form relating to your choice 5 skill points cheaper.
- Or wild animals related to your Spirit (Bear, Wolf, Leopard) are initially neutral towards your character and pets instead of hostile. In the case of Raven, whenever you attack an animal (not monster or humanoid creature) a nearby bird will use the “Call Owl” ability once.
- Or Shrines of your Spirit give you a Swiftness boon for 4 minute and an appropriate boon for 1 minute:
Bear: Might
Leopard: Fury
Raven: Protection
Wolf: Regen
you can easily see its not that way, as you will meet a lot of different languages on overflow.
Well I meet alot of different languages and nationalities in Aurora Glade. I’m South African for instance. (EU has the best latency for me =P)
Good ideas. Additionally:
Perhaps the elite skill that turns you into a were-form of your chosen spirit lasts 50% longer/or is stronger/lets you use your utility skills/etc than compared to the other forms.
Perhaps, but I think it needs to be something that’s not game changing, essentially so a player does not regret their biography choices. If it is something like stat/ability changes, a player could feel cheated, but allowing a player to access the other choices with a little bit more effort than their initial choice will at least give a desired level of “choice and consequence”.
Cool thanks.
I am surprised Overflows are global too. I thought there would be a few per World like an Aurora Glade Overflow, Blacktide Overflow, etc, etc.
I have noticed an increasing amount of broken or hanging events that cannot be completed and will not reset for various different issues.
The problem with the current set-up is that if an event cannot succeed or fail, due to a bug, there is no global reset to restart the event. Hypothetically every event could eventually encounter a bug that makes them impossible to complete.
I suggest adding a global reset for events, for instance, that resets an event when no one interacts with the event in the last 2 hours.
I have reported all these issues with the in-game bug report but I thought a list would be appropriate. Please add/update to this list as you see fit.
Below is an incomplete list of the ones I have noticed so far:
Escort the quaggan emissary to the kodan camp
Snowden Drifts – Valslake
World: Aurora Glade
First noticed: Mid December – Still Unresolved
: The Quaggan tries to swim under a rock arch but proceeds to swim, literally, into the rock and cannot continue further. Attempts to ‘bait’ the Quaggan out by attacking nearby enemies result in the Quaggan coming to aide in attack but proceeding back into the rock afterwards.
Kill the Separatists before they destroy the Iron Barracuda
Plains of Ashford – Ascalon Basin
World: Aurora Glade
First Noticed: Early January – Still Unresolved
: Current progress is stuck on 28% Saboteurs Killed. Although Separatists will spawn and move towards the Iron Barracuda submarine, they will not attack it. Nor will killing the Separatists increase the progress bar.
Disguise yourself as a Flame Legion soldier and attack the Separatist Camp
Diessa Plateau – Oldgate Clearing
World: Aurora Glade
First Noticed: Early January – Still Unresolved
: Current progress is stuck on Separatists killed: 10/10 and Emblems planted: 0/5. Although there is a nearby NPC to the North of the event that can disguise you, they do not tell you how to acquire or plant Emblems. Nor is there any direction on how or where to place Emblems.
Save the merchants from the Bloody Buccaneer kidnappers
Bloodtide Coast – Portage Hills to Vindar’s Lagoon
World: Aurora Glade
First Noticed: Early January – Still Unresolved
: Current progress stuck on Merchants Remaining: 3 and Merchants rescued: 1/11. Essentially the Event has already failed. The 3 remaining Merchants do not spawn.

Hi,
I just wanted to know if Gem buying and selling prices are globally the same across all Worlds/Servers or is each World’s prices set according to their markets?
Also, when you buy and sell items on the BLTC are the items being bought and sold by your world only or across all worlds?
So people have been complaining since Beta and they haven’t made this simple update? Well that’s worrying.
I only have 5 character slots so far but I have to agree with the opening post; seems ridiculous in a game with 8 professions that they limit the visible slots to 7.
I’m a fan of viking history. My family comes all the way from Denmark. Anakka Svaarblade sounds spot on. Very old icelandic. I give it a 10/10.
I’m not trying to be a.. kitten? Buuuut, as a native speaker of Icelandic, a language which hasn’t changed much since antiquity I have to point out that Anakka Svaarblade is nothing even closely resembling an Icelandic name, past or present :P
Oh burn!
I think a cool alternative would be that either your chosen Spirit form is 5 skill points cheaper.
Or that the wild animals of your Spirit type are neutral towards you and your pets instead of hostile. In the case of the Raven, whenever you attack animals (not monsters or humanoid creatures), a random bird in the vicinity will do a single “Call Owl” attack to your target.
Ah, the Guild Wars 2 site gives away that this question was initially meant to affect with Spirit Form you could change into but they obviously changed that so you could access all forms.
See the bottom paragraph: https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/races/norn/
The same applies to the God Choice in Humans: https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/races/human/
Kinda proves the biography consequences weren’t properly finished before release.
I’m finding it a bit weird that you are not notified about friend requests or guild invites in the same way you get party invites.
As I don’t really like the idea of someone adding me and knowing where I am and my online status without my consent.
Also it just becomes a bit annoying when you have a list of pending contacts and your can’t remember where you met these people.
And if you don’t check your contact or guild page for pending invites the list can get quite long.
Battlenet has this same problem and not sure why it is done this way.
Also it would be nice to be able to set contact notes so you can remember why you added people. Like “this guy is good at Dungeons” and this other guy “helps me with jumping puzzles” etc etc.
Well the surname seems to fit but I’m not sure the origin of the first name.
But now I’m interested to read the book so that’s a good sign. =P
Well I used the the wiki page for a guideline on name generation:
Norn Names
And used Native American naming ideologues, of naming after a defining event at birth or childhood, to give my character a surname.
Dunrick Mauldeer
Well I really like the Wolf form for the Life Steal, Fear and two knockbacks and I usually only use it in a group fight when I’ve exhausted all my combinations and have 20 seconds to spare.
But true, I am disappointed that you can’t use Utility or Class Skills while in the form and that you can’t use it underwater.
Well I just tried to navigate Rata Sum for the first time and WOW its terrible trying to find my way around. With so many areas only accessible through Asuran Gates it becomes really confusing trying to figure out which one goes where.
No one else have this issue?
Hmmm. Can’t say I ever noticed that. Perhaps when I’m next in that area I’ll take a look.
I find that I generally ignore most of the dialogue with non-quest related NPCs as this dialogue has very little or nothing that will affect quests or general gameplay which is quite a disappointment.
I’m used to playing many single-player RPGs where dialogue choices can have quite a significant effect on both storyline and character development. And I was quite looking forward to see how the Personality system would affect GW2 but it seems to be an unfinished or underutilized system.
What I would like to see is the implementation of some dialogue based quests.
These could be based in the major cities (non-combat zones) across Tyria. The quests would revolve around diplomacy and negotiating and your dialogue options would drastically affect the outcome of these little stories. These dialogue quests could be anything from stopping an impending bar brawl to rallying the troops before battle to reconciling a feuding couple.
And everything from your Race, Gender, Profession and Personality would affect what will be the best possible thing to say in the situation, as well as the reward you get.
Perhaps you’re a female Charr trying to get this couple back together. But he’s a bit of a chauvinist who doesn’t respect women and she has something against talking cats. So you’ll first have to find a way to get either one, or both, of them to listen to you before you piece together their relationship. Or, you may find, that your Ferocious personality gives you the option to intimidate them into overlooking their petty squabbles out of fear of you. In essence some quests would be harder for some than others and some choices that would end in success for one would end in failure for another. (a Charming Male Asuran couldn’t successfully intimidate the couple)
These Quests would be like Heart Quests; single player, once-off quests but some could be repeatable and they’re not necessarily always going to be in the same area or even the same city!
Another thing I would like to see is puzzles that are different from the jumping puzzles.
I am finding that I am actually enjoying the jumping puzzles a lot more than I thought but I really wish for some more intellectually stimulating puzzles.
I am playing Norn and I got quite excited in one mission where there was the promise of deciphering a Dredge code from a paragraph from a book, but in the end it turned out you just find the book and can keep pressing next in the dialogue window until the quest is over.
I would really like to see riddle quest that require you to remember a story or decipher a code and you have either a time limit or number of strikes before you fail at which point you have to start all over again.
Riddle puzzles would have to be once-off puzzles that once you get them correct you get the reward but can’t do it again. This way someone who gets it wrong first time won’t feel cheated out of anything but a little extra time.
Another type of puzzle would be combination, slide, move or Rube Goldberg puzzles that require a systematic look at the puzzle ahead to see which order the proverbial, and sometimes literal, cogs should fit together.
There is even the option of making these puzzle multiplayer puzzles in which you can’t complete it without a friend.
Obviously a lot of what I suggest here would be more common place in single player games but I find that Guild Wars 2 is doing a good job of catering to both MMO and Single-Player RPG fans. I think the introduction of Dialogue quests would help immerse players in the world and puzzle games would add another layer of challenge to players.
If you thought TL;DR then perhaps my suggestions aren’t for you. =P
The only time I notice Merchants moving is when they engage in combat which, naturally, seems like a good time to stop bartering and start beating. =P
I’ve found it a bit strange, and confusing, that in-game mails that are issued once per account, like the Wintersday Gift or Trading Post purchases, have no definitive icon or disclaimer that sets them apart from your other Character Specific mails. (All Wintersday mails use the personal story icon for mails and don’t mention the gifts are once per account)
This obviously gets confusing for new players, like me, when I got the Wintersday Gift mail but thought that each of my characters had got the same mail, each with their own items.
But it turns out this was a once off thing that, although visible in each character’s mailbox, the items were only available for one withdrawal.
I think emails like this, and Trading Post purchases and any other Arenanet announcements, that are once per account instead of per character, should be labelled as Account Mails to differentiate from Character Mails in the same way that items are Account Bound or Soulbound.
This would help new players, like me, from deleting items or characters, not knowing that the stuff we withdrew from mails would not be duplicated for our other characters.
That’s a shame.
As for Tarn, that’s not true, depending how you answer the “Important Quality” question affects a story line mission in which a spirit guide helps you.
I chose Bear as my Spirit but when I took on the Jotun King the Wolf Spirit Guide helped me. So my Spirit question has no affect on the storyline. Its strange that the other races (except Human) are affected by all their Biography Questions. I’m wondering if they didn’t complete these two races personal stories to their intended level before release.
(edited by Anonymous The Spy.2491)
Anyone else think its a good idea?
That’s a shame. I was hoping it would be like Arcanum in that you alignment/personality changed not only how you spoke to other players but if they would be willing you trade with you.
It could be nice to see Karma Merchants sell items only usable by certain personalities.
