Same thing for me, I don’t get any additional boon duration from Giver’s armor or Snowflake Jewelry. Sent a bug report for both the jewelry and armor before the Wintersday event ended and another after it ended and still wasn’t patched since I didn’t know if they got it.
It’s free? Right on.

I feel bad for you Peitzi, that’s a ton of chests and a lot of money’s worth.
25 chests and the 5+ extra chests from keys that came out of the chests and all the Mad King Chests I could get from them didn’t get me any skins, but when I hear about cases where people buy 50+ and get no skins, I don’t feel as sorry for myself. Still, it’s almost $30 worth of gems for what after all the Mad King Chest conversions amounted to a few boosts, 40-ish fine trasmutation stones, a couple black lion tools, and at least 50 one-time-use Halloween tonics that I don’t even want but feel bad about getting rid of since they ended up costing so much. Perhaps it roughly evens out with the amount that the fine transmutation stones and other things cost on the gem store, but if you’re looking for Halloween skins, you may be better off converting gems directly to gold and buying it off the TP.
The chances of getting any of the skins from chests are so low that it’s practically misleading. To anyone out there, I cannot stress enough how much you should NOT expect much of anything you want from these chests even with lots of magic find (which I doubt affects these chests anyway). Be warned, if anyone tells you a story about how they got a cool Halloween skin from a couple chests, do not be tempted easily into gambling a hefty amount for it, because they were about as lucky as anyone can get. If I’d known the chances of getting anything really good were what seems to be much less than one percent I probably wouldn’t have bothered getting as many keys as I did. I’ll make sure not participate in these gambling events without somehow finding out the odds first.

Gambling for holiday items just feels so sad.
I thought GW2 was the game that would do right where other MMOs went wrong. For the most part it truly has… but most MMOs I’ve played so far looked at holiday events as a way to keep the players interested, festive, and satisfied and provide them with good memories along with perhaps a few cash shop items, not to have a gambling event to almost blatantly make large profits through limited-time items with obscenely low obtain-rates.
If you’re going to make it a gambling system, at least make it 25%+ to get a high tier holiday non-consumable (non-tonic (not-inventory-eating-trash… lol)) item. Getting even one such item out of 10 chests would be infinitely better than zero. But I don’t even like gambling anyway, especially during a holiday event. Choose some other promotion for low-chance-high-profit gambling.
I don’t want to be jealous or sensitive about people getting special items from this. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to implement systems that would cause customers to have such negative reactions and feelings during a festive event when most people would much prefer to emerge from this with good experiences of the festivities and memorabilia that they obtained fairly for participating.
I won’t get mad or anything like that, but please, ArenaNet, don’t do this kind of thing for a holiday event.
