Oh, i love how your character lands on his stomach when falls from somewhere high enough… Wouldn’t want to see a change there.

I am afraid to be too specific, I have been infracted twice on this topic. All I am saying, which is probably not news, is that the damage we take while sliding and the damage we take while falling should be scaled. Just my opinion of an otherwise great game. Did I say that right? Will you let my family go now??

Well, since you ask nicely… * Cancels the air strike *

I know it’s not healthy. I just hope people are willing to stick it through. I don’t want to have to leave Tyria. I want people to stick around. ;_;

We’re on the same boat, you and i… All my friends except two, have gone thanks to the megaserver. I still play, i don’t want to leave the game, as i like it… But incidents and what i’ve experienced lately simply push me away…

There are days when i stay idle, glaring at the patcher debating with myself whether to log in or not.. I know that if i don’t, i won’t have to experience things like i mention above, and in the other megaserver thread. Eventually, instead of pressing “Play”, i just close it, and go somewhere else…

Noooo! Don’t go! I’m only now being able to find roleplayers, and I want to meet people! I was stuck on the wrong server because all my friends were there, and the megaserver has made it easier to find people, at least for me. I hope you stay through the adjustments! I’m sure things will stable out over time!

One month with a broken game isn’t exactly healthy, my friend. A-net needs to reconsider their priorities, as my entire guild did what Crawler did. They left. People will continue to leave, if this silence from A-net continues.

Eventually, you’ll have the chance to play a “stable” game and see the same people again and again…..simply cause you’ll be the only ones left, and Skynet won’t have to make multiple instances. But if that happens, get ready for another Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Lineage and City of Heroes incident…

I’m sure its been said in 25 pages, but I just want to put in my 2 cents here since I seem to be in these forums more these days than the actual game. (That’s not even hyperbole. Think about that Anet.)

I keep checking forums to see if there is any progress made to the WB schedule and megaserver issues & rarely log into the game now. Specifically looking for answers to:

1. Have they removed the megaserver from places it patently doesn’t work eg Orr?
2. Have they reduced the soft cap in zones so that events aren’t over before they begin?
3. Have they made progress in removing/discouraging zerg content?
4. Have they done anything sensible about language options for EU players?
5. Have they labelled megaservers like districts, or given an option to opt out?
6. Have they amended the world boss schedule for EU/UK players?
7. Have they realised some of us chose lower pop on purpose and some don’t like zergs?
8. Have they made changes so that not only parties but guilds and squads stay together?
9. Have they changed the way guild missions/bounties etc work?

I’m not even mentioning RP, contested waypoints, nodes, increase in gold-sellers, destruction of community and several other things which I will remember after I post this.

To answer your questions in short? No.

In many video’s you hear him making negative remarks about elements of the game but this is the first time I really hear him mad. I do know the feeling.

Educational video to say the least, i really hope A-net sees it.

Either way, more people in instances or not, i’m really sick and tired being tossed around like a rag-doll wherever Skynet decides to throw me. So give us manual instance selection already, or better yet, bring back our old servers!

It’s really frustrating to have to think twice before i log in and play the game. And if i actually do log in, to log out minutes later disgusted by either the chat, inappropriate PMs, or massive lag/crashes due to zerg swarming my screen, and frying my GPU.

I’ll be more specific about it. Yesterday, i logged in (was a tad late) to wipe off some stress from a really hard day at work, only to be harassed by an idiot, following me around, and PMing me about wanting to screenshot my character…..without her armor. I eventually blocked the guy, but it was enough to irritate me even more than i already was, ending in rage quitting.

I am in this game since the beta, and i never experienced such a thing on my server. So of course, i want my server back. I want my fun back, i want my decent community back! Enough is enough…

It’s really distressing to see this thread, with almost a thousand entries, go over a month without any input from ArenaNet. Not even a ’We understand you think there is a problem".

So true.
Anet, can’t u see, that there are alot RPers out there? We are not only a few, we are many and we are asking since game-release for somthing, that RPers can enjoy. But u gave us nothing but megaservers, which destroys our RP.

And yet, in other and newer threads, they are posting. I don’t think they have a solution for our problems or concerns, so why would they bother? I also doubt that a “We understand you think there’s a problem” is exactly the answer we’re looking for.

I think the primary reason nobody’s posting anything here, is cause they fear our reaction if the answer isn’t what we expect.

Well my friends, video gaming has no age. We play cause we love it, and we’re proud of it. It’s a way of life, a way to get together with your kids, a way to even fight the stress of the day. For me, it’s a ticket to relaxation, an escape from my daily routine. And of course, a ticket to RP with family, and friends.

And that’s what i mostly do in-game : PvE and Role Play.

As for my age? I can give a hint : I’m amongst those who saw the original Star Wars Episode IV (not the 90’s remake) on a movie theater.

Death to the Maga Sever!

My guild mates and I went to do our guild missions the other day and being a large guild we could not all get on the same sever to do our missions. After 30 mins of working to get as many as we could on one map there was a line at the mission sites to do them WTF a line to do guild rush. Now when 80 cant get on one kitten sever to do something is just a kitten fail.
You need to exhail till you hear that popping sound that will be your head leaven your kitten!

Imagine trying to do what you said, then seeing a different smaller guild stealing the bounty as they were fewer and got there first, during the time you ate trying to get your guildies together……..and then get scolded by it, cause you “dared” to interfere..

The whole situation is disturbing, come to think of it. Skynet has turned a pretty good game, into a really bad joke.

I’ll also mention the map chat nightmare since the megaserver downgrade, as if you even dare to keep it on, all you see there are insults, racial jokes, sex jokes, meme, another insult, and the rotation continues. Dare to mention RP? It simply feels like turning on a homing missile beacon on yourself.

I personally don’t see a reason for any city to be part of Skynet. There’s no content there, they serve as “hubs”. Even the personal story stuff are instanced, there’s no need for 500+ players to be parked on the same area. The areas themselves are ten times smaller than the rest of the world, and gathering said players together simply causes lag, and frequent crashes. And i won’t mention the serious impact it has on medium end and low end PC users…

I’ve logged in around three or four times over the last week. On Piken Square, my home server, I have seen precisely zero RP in Divinity’s Reach and fragmented RP in Queensdale and Rata Sum. I feel like a complete stranger on my own server: I don’t recognise the players who now inhabit DR, nor their guilds and the RP chatter that used to fill map chat and local chat in the game world has been replaced either by silence, or an assortment of different languages that I don’t understand.

Consider yourself lucky, then. From personal experience, all RP is long gone at the areas you describe. Instead, if you dare do some RP anywhere now, you get trolled. My guild has already left due to that, there are just 3 of us left. Everyone else went back to SWTOR from which we came, as there IS an official RP server there! Yes, a server… Do you hear us, A-net? A <@#$!?> server

This is basically fortunate (no it’s not) considering that my guild fragments can now RP in party chat instead of local. But of course, that doesn’t stop people swirling around you like raving idiots for like 3 minutes, and then see them type : “HOW DO U WALK?!!?!?!?”

I suppose all good things eventually come to an end…

Just a thought, would creating a guild specifically for the event be an option to work around the limitations? It only costs a few silvers, make everyone member and let them represent Then afterwards you go back to normal.

Sadly, that won’t help either. Skynet treats guilds exactly the same way as your friends : Everyone’s scattered around instances, with the only option to “party” and pray that one instance isn’t full for everyone to join in.

If we were to create a “megaguild” for this reason, it would’ve worked if only Skynet was giving priority to guildmates. A feature promised to be released alongside the kitten thing, but obviously missing. So even with a “megaguild” out there, it’s the same deal.

Unless of course we use guild chat to RP, and keep “ghosting” everything and everyone who can’t join our instance… Then again, if that was the case, then why log into the game and not take RP into a forum chat….

Guide to level up on a decent speed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asacledhae.2650

Asacledhae.2650

You may find it really “slow” to level up, simply cause the game lacks “vertical” progression. You don’t start at a ludicrous speed gaining the first 15 levels and then move slower and slower and slower up the top. This game is quite fun when it comes to exploring and doing dynamic events, so stick with those. If you think you’re too low (or weak) to continue, like others mention above, visit the starter areas (Queensdale, Metrica Province, Wayfarer Foothils, Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest) of other races until you feel you’re ready for more. Also, exploring the main cities gives good XP and of course Transmutation charges.

With the “effective level” feature, it doesn’t matter what level you are. You just adjust to the level your area is. So sit back, and enjoy the game.

Engi or Ranger?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Asacledhae.2650

Asacledhae.2650

Having played both classes already, i can easily tell you that both classes are worth your time. I speak from PvE aspect myself, as WvW is something my PC can’t handle.

The Ranger is more straightforward with his gameplay, as he has the classic “weapon switching” feature, and amazing skills/traits to follow. He’s fun, deadly, quick, and of course you have a controllable pet you can name with you, and can gather a whole bunch of them. Including moas! If you like carrying bows, swords and having a pet that “steals” debuffs from you (with the right trait), this is definitely a choice for you.

The engineer is trickier to play, as you can’t switch your main weapon, and the choices you have there are somewhat limited. However! You can carry weapon kits with you, that provide a unique experience, and replace your main weapon skils. Including flamethrowers, bombs, grenades, tool kits, poison rifles and many more. Kits you can change freely without cooldowns, if you keep them among your skills. Plus, you can lay turrets. So if carrying guns, rifles and weird weaponry is your thing, i would recommend going for the engineer.

I really don’t want to be rude about A-net, but looking at the “News” section, it feels like they don’t really care about our feedback or suggestions, and instead, they release shiny and brand new items on the gem store.

So A-net, i would appreciate next week in the “News” section, to see a “Fixed several Megaserver issues” post, instead of advertizing new vanity items for quick cash grab. Your attitude and silence about our concerns and issues is simply insulting and irritating, considering the support we gave you from launch to the present day. We have patience, yes. But it’s starting to fade…

If what’s been said about you guys “lurking” in the forum and reading what’s been said is true, then i’m probably not wasting my breath. An MMO is a community, a “human body” if you think about it. You are the brain, we are the heart and limbs that allow the body to move and live. If you chop off the limbs, do you still expect the body to be as effective as before? And of course, if you keep mutilating it, do you honestly think that even the heart will survive? It’s common sense, so please act. Don’t be in denial.

Do You Enjoy Zerg Content ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asacledhae.2650

Asacledhae.2650

I have no issues with people leveling alongside me. I have no issues with events that gather around 20+ people together. However, i DO have issues standing in one place having skill 1 in auto attack and looking outside my window in order to avoid an epilepsy crisis.

When i first got my hands on this game, i was happy, cause it required skill to get things done, dodge, and be on alert when you fight. Each class mattered, as it has unique gameplay, different survivability, and of course all the different skills/traits to make it fun to play.

With the zerg, you don’t need any of this. You just follow, spam a power, and you’re done! It’s not a game anymore, it’s “sitting in front of your desk with your head rested on your right hand, and spamming 1 with your left one”. Does it matter if you’re a Guardian, or a Thief? Not really, no. You rely to your good old ranged weapon, sit in a spot, and hit. Eventually, all you get in the end, are people with level 80 and fully geared characters, who ask questions like : What happened to my weapon switching ability!? I thought it unlocks on level 7………while playing an Elementalist.

Well, cross guild RP is definitely a nightmare to set up. We tried to do so on Sunday in Ebonhawke. The result? 2 of my guildmates were on an instance. Me and 4 more on another. The guys from the other guild were spread in 3. Took us about 45 minutes (may be longer, i didn’t time it) to get together, forming party after party, and party again, facing “Teh world yer attemptin’ ta’ enter iz full, get yer sorry <@#$!?> elsewhere” messages.

Eventually, 2/3 of the people were fed up and left, others left cause they ran out of time (yes, some don’t have a 24/7 opportunity to play a game), so the event got cancelled. Lately it feels a lot easier to go on foot from Europe to Japan, than organize a proper RP event in the game…

Speaking about guilds, have you people noticed how dramatically the non-guilded player number has been increased, lately?

I don’t know if they’re new players, or even players who are fed up with Skynet’s abuse to the game. I don’t care either. But from my point of view, said players have no interest (or need) to find a guild, or be part of a community. They just log in, follow the zerg, spam 1, level up, get the rewards, log out. Chance to see or play with them again? Non existent…

Seriously though, why would they want to join a guild, considering the backstabbing guilds (and many more) get these days? Why be part of a community, if said community can’t be together? I don’t know about you guys, but i didn’t join this game to be part of a random mob tossed in a bowl, then processed to look “even”. I want to be able to log in to my game, and see the usual familiar faces and guilds i used to see for a year and a half now. And of course new faces who will be added to the community, knowing that even i ran past them once, i’ll see them again somewhere, or have the chance to play with them again… I don’t want to feel like a stranger not knowing anyone every time, or pondering where i got tossed into. I don’t want to feel like playing the game for the first time, each time i log back into the game. And i definitely don’t want to think twice about trying to get my guildmates together and do things.

Someone mentioned earlier that a megaserver is like a big city, and it’s not expected to see the same people on the same place all the time. So get over it, and play the game. True, but… How about your neighbors? Or the people who live across the street? Or what about the “Regulars” on your local bar, or people who daily cross your street to go to work? Faces you know you’ll see again. So basically, for a megaserver to work, it has to be able to keep the “neighborhoods” intact, and allow other people to move around the neighborhood, with a choice to settle in if they like what they see…

This reminded me of the Dhuum banimation. This should be implemented if they make any of your suggested changes. But yea, trolls can be dumb but there are also trolls that are funny. There is a happy medium between being a funny troll and being rude and harassing others. Note the differences, as they do exist. But yes, I believe there should be a fix for those who partake in RPing and the difficulty that the newly implemented mega-servers have makitten possible. I’m not saying I am against the mega-server, cuz I love it, but I can see how others can be affected by this negatively. Whatever happens, good luck to all you RPers.

Yeah, that guy crossed my mind many times when i got trolled lately.

And yes. I wouldn’t mind someone approaching me while RPlaying and try to blend in, or create a “comical” pause to what i’m doing. But emote spam, or calling me names, or power spam isn’t exactly something i’m willing to tolerate anymore.

I ain’t against the megaserver either, i just want it to work. Heck, other games i play (not ESO) have megaserver, and we never have issues with it. It prioritizes friends/guild members/Teams, and places you on the same map if possible. If not, you have manual instance selection that allows you to move freely from instance to instance, thus finding your usual friends/familiar faces. That makes RP possible, and if a troll appears? You simply relocate on a different instance. No harm, no foul, and said troll gets reported in the process.

So that’s what i basically suggest for Spirits know how long (Norn, anyone?) : Priority for friends/guilds on the same instance, and manual instance selection. If those two are to be added with the megaserver, i’ll be satisfied (not entirely as our communities have been destroyed, but you know what i mean…)

I want you to consider scale with me for a moment. Suppose you have a team of 3-5 programmers who spend 6-12 months building code. You have teams of people who spend months testing it. You ship it.

There are some obvious problems. There are some less obvious problems. Which of these do you do:

1) Quietly evaluate the effort it will take to fix the problems, make quick fixes where you can, and determine a strategy for moving forward.
2) Bow to the pressure of your community forums and tear the system out entirely, negating thousands of man-hours of work and taking an embarrassing public image hit.

You can, of course, take issue with the “quietly” part of option #1 and agree with the rest of it. Given those two general choices, though, they’re doing the right thing.

I imagine they are 110% overwhelmed with the China launch today and will be much more responsive in the next couple weeks. If that’s not “good enough” for you, that’s fine. If you expect more, that’s fine. You’re welcome to be upset.

I just want people to 1) provide useful feedback, not hyperbole and 2) keep their expectations of ArenaNet somewhere in the realm of “reasonable.”

You can always read this thread and the other one about the megaserver and see our useful feedback since Skynet took over. Nobody’s overreacting here, and if you had the patience to read what we post, then you would’ve known better.

So… What you do to keep everyone happy and avoid all the hype? Simple : Keep the megaserver on a PTS, allowing people to test it, and give feedback on a separate thread about pros/cons of the system. Then, evaluate the effort it will take to fix the problems, make quick fixes where you can, and determine a strategy for moving forward. And finally, when the system works to it’s best, you add it to the live servers. There, i used your own words.

My friend, if they are overwhelmed as you say, it would’ve been a lot better for them not to add the megaserver’s early alpha state on the live servers yet. That way they would’ve had lesser worries, and all this rant would’ve been avoided. We’re not against the kitten thing, we just want it to stop breaking the game.

Either way, there are many games out there who respect a RPlayer. If GW2 won’t anymore, there are more fish in the ocean.

My major reason for playing an MMO RPG is to be able to get together with my friends, Role Play, and enjoy the game. I usually IC my leveling when i have company. It gives more spice to the whole idea, especially if you have many high level characters.

Now, try to do that with zerg. I won’t go into the trolling that will follow, but what’s the point in doing so? Back in the old days, we used to get together with our guildmates and friends, doing IC events, explore the world, make up “incidents” as we moved along the way…

Now that’s basically ripped away, in the most violent way. “You’re not part of the zerg, you’re playing the game wrong”. “You enjoy the RP part of the MMO RPG, you are doing it wrong”.

Our communities have become but a shadow of their former glory, and for what reason? For A-net wanting to shove a bazillion of people on the same instance, simply creating the “illusion” that all the worlds are “full”?

About a day ago, i felt i was tired to keep screaming about all the issues Skynet brought, as we’re definitely screaming on a brick wall… If A-net cared about the community, this whole farce wouldn’t have been implemented into the game after one year and a half of community growth. At least not at it’s current state.

Still, i’ll keep adding my voice from time to time, to “remind” them that instead of being able to play the game, we end up spending our precious hours on the forum. Skynet doesn’t work. So either fix it, or get rid of it. Heck, we’ve been giving you guys suggestions and feedback for about a month now. I’m sure something we suggest is possible to do!

I personally feel cheated right now, considering everything i’ve spent in this game. Not only playing it and building my characters, but supporting it with real money. I would appreciate a clean answer here from A-net. Do we matter as a community, customers and supporters, or we’re just idiots who fell into a sales pitch fiasco and got screwed in the end?

I personally hope that we do matter, but recent events make me doubt.

Megaserver is first thing I don’t like in thiis game and I droped playing because of that. I have no more fun while I don’t have even 1fps on world boss events – my computer can’t handle it now.

It’s time for you to get a new computer, then! A-net once stated that updates will force you to do so from time to time, i suppose Skynet is one of said downgrades……. (….er…..updates….my bad), that require a 4000 Euros gaming rig to work properly…….on low settings! See, they’re helping computer selling companies sell stuff, so everyone’s happy!

Okay, i’ll stop the sarcasm now, as i have similar issues with you. I have a somewhat powerful PC, and i get around 20FPS in zergs (ultra low settings), but that’s the only “positive” (eh!?) thing about it. My GPU reaches out more than 105 degrees celcius when i encounter zerg, even with frame limitation on to “prevent” overheating, and it eventually shuts down to prevent damage. The same GPU who never exceeds 96 degrees on Tomb Raider on Ultra, with TressFX on. So go figure.

A picture is worth a thousand words as i said earlier, so this time, i’m proud (not really) to give a more…. “metaphorical” example.

So, in case you fail to understand what’s going on there, the hand is the megaserver, and the rest, us. The community. Enjoy.

Yes, this is what your megaserver does. So i ask again, is this what you want?

You can’t RP if there are non RPers in the zone? I just don’t understand this, if someone says something stupid to the people who are RPing, that’s what the block list is for. I don’t RP and I really don’t even understand why someone would, but I’m also not going to say anything to anyone that IS RPing, and I would guess 99.9% of everyone is the same way. I can’t believe the RP community didn’t have people being kittens to them before, so I don’t really see what changed. Yes the whole RP community might not get on the same Mega servers each time, but being in RP guilds, friends lists, the same server, all increase the chance till it’s almost 100%.

Edit: This isn’t towards you Asacledhae: I’m done saying anything on this topic. I won’t change anyone’s mind because they just don’t care, yes there are problems with the system, but instead of letting them get worked out it’s become a witch hunt to get rid of them.

Yes, indeed… Why would someone Role Play in an MMO RPG game? Totally absurd… Blocking doesn’t stop emotes, nor skill spams, so go figure. We have been trolled before megaserver, yes. But the chances of said trolling were minimal. I’m in the game since the beta, and i’ve only been trolled twice. After the megaserver? Almost every time we host an event.

But i have to ask, are you part of any guild? And how large is your friends list? Cause from personal experience, my guild and friends, are never placed on the same instance, unless we team up. And teaming up has a 50% failure to get all people into the same map.

I would kindly ask you to check the forum and see how people like me care. It’s not that we don’t want the megaserver, we just want it to work properly. We suggest stuff, and share our experiences with the community. Sorry if the negative feedback upsets you, but not everyone loves zerg. By “letting” the problems get worked out, you’ll simply cause them to stay as is, as A-net will think that the “fuss” has worn out, and move on with their business.

tl;dr If you’re afraid you’re getting rusty and sPvP isn’t your thing, go to Orr and try doing any event at all.

I took your advice earlier today, but i have a slight problem with it, as Orr refuses to load. And if it does load, i get around 2 FPS caused by all the names i was seeing in front of me, even on the lowest settings. As a result, my game crashed, so after around 4 minutes of re-loading, i took my character and ran away screaming (Yes, i’m proud of it).

Alas, i only have a lowly i7 gaming rig, what could it do against zerg?

Doing events there now, feels more or less like watching a horror movie reversed, from end to start.

I wasn’t going to respond to this, because I feel it didn’t even deserve one, but it’s getting under my skin so here it goes. NOTHING is more impossible to do now then it used to be. You can do EVERYTHING you were able to do before, and now other people are able to do more also.

….and also get an epilepsy crisis while at it.

You forgot that RP is also flushed down the toilet alongside guild events. So no, you can’t do everything like before. It’s far worse the way it is right now. More players are nice, zerg are not. Megaserver could’ve worked if some features like manual instance selection were to be added. That would’ve solved everything if you ask me, and everyone would’ve been happy.

Why would random new players listen to a word, when up until Wurm or Teq, all they know is to zerg and use auto-attack? Because thats what Megaservers encourage. You tell the zerg-raised newbies to stack might or to use condition damage on a specific kind of enemy, and they have no idea what you are talking about.

If megaservers stay the way they are, it will only get worse. The gap between newbies and skillfull players grow wider, to the point where proper training and explaining falls on deaf ears. All the while the megaservers actually force these two kinds of players together. Newbies will struggle to get credit for events (most of the time dont even realizing why they dont get credit), while skillfull players struggle to explain things when it would be vital.

Actually, it’ll all turn the same… Even skilled players will lose their skill in the long run, as they won’t have to use said skill to level up or do events. They’ll be consumed by the zerg, as you can see in the link i’ve included in my previous post. Heck, i’ve seen it happening to me already, even after having many level 80’s! And Skynet is still fresh.

The game has turned from fun to boring, with lag, inability to target anything (as it dies too quickly before you manage to react), or even inability to join an event in progress. Why? Simply cause it ends in seconds.

I’ve seen people ditching their melee weapons and go ranged, as it’s virtually almost impossible to get near an enemy to attack now (unless said enemy is a random foe in the world, not linked to a heart or event). New players stick close to the zerg, and simply follow, doing nothing but a few “Void” swings in thin air…. or spam a targeted AoE. If they hit, all is well. If not, all is well too. And then an AoE spams from an enemy, and you see them dropping like flies.

A-net, give people manual instance selection, so we can pick an appropriate instance that fits our gameplay needs ; High poplulated one, low populated one, RP controlled one, home server controlled one, pizza controlled one (wait, what!?).

Guys, seriously. I did my own research over the last days, and there are people out there who confirm my words. Stop the copy/paste of broken features from other games without tweaking them, it looks bad on you guys.

Just wanted to throw it out there that I think the whole

MEGASERVER WEIGHING ALGORITHM

is a load of kitten. ESO said they were going to do it. I like ESO overall as a game, it just isn’t worth a sub to me, and the end-game balance is terrible. But what I did experience?

Megaservers.

Megaservers are great if you have a social web of friends already available. Or if you have the ability to

PICK YOUR CHANNEL

If they do not, your experience is absolutely inorganic.

When ESO first toted its megaserver, it said you would be weighed based on your preferences. RP, PVP, PVE, hardcore, casual, all that kind of thing.

…yeah, never happened. Went quiet about it for a long time, and it just got buried.

So I foresee the algorithm thing just not being “doable” (apparently), or just being a bunch of nonsense to try and stem dissatisfaction – but then they stop talking about it when they realize they can’t talk about it without technically lying. Even if that wasn’t their original intent.

I think that’s what happened here. Originally they wanted something better, and it didn’t come to fruition. So they’re like…Whoops. Well take what you got.

…a lot like Town Clothes, actually.

Thank you for confirming my words about the copy/paste from other games A-net is doing without any research. I wasn’t aware ESO had the same “megaserver”, as i was never interested in that game… At least now i know why A-net copied it… Probably out of “fear” that ESO will steal their player’s database.

The irony is, that there are games out there with “Working” megaservers. Yes, working. Why? Cause they have what most people ask : Manual instance selection. They even allow you to manually pick your instance upon zoning, showing you how many players are in each instance, and how many of your friends or guildmates are on the instance you’re going to choose.

As for the algorithm you mention? Yes, it works there… 9 times out of 10 the megaserver places you on the same instance with your guildmates and friends, unless the instance is full.. Even then you have a choice to relocate, you don’t get a “oh well, you’re split, get over it” experience.

How hard would be for A-net to add this feature to the game? I mean, the games i mention above are more than 4 years old and their megaserver works from day one… one… Games without even a “home server”, just a huge community, who doesn’t complain about it.

Did that stop an RP community to grow? No.. Why? Cause the instance selection allows people to relocate, if a troll tries to ruin their event. Same thing with large guild events. The guild leader picks up a low populated instance, and gets his guild in, doing their event without issues.

Feedback?

Well, after this “Megaserver” thing, I’ve basically quit. Logging in and seeing a bunch of random people isn’t as fun as logging in and seeing the old familiar faces. The new update also brought with it a bunch of goldsellers, which spam constantly with seemingly endless accounts.

So until Arenanet rolls it back to how it used to be, I’ll just find something else to play.

I’d also like to point out that, if you people dislike it, then show it. Stop your gem purchasing, don’t play the game. If Anet sees a drop in one of these departments, they will more eager to listen and actually communicate.

Been there, done that…

Leveling isn’t an option anymore anyway, as zerg have taken over everything. I only log-in to RP with the last two (we used to be 29) people of my guild, who despite the now death around us, refuse to leave the game. RP isn’t an option either to be honest, as anything besides “party chat”, becomes a live and vibrant beacon for a collection of trolls, with a common goal in mind…

I was in The Grove (TC) the other night and noticed some really interesting loosely organized RP going on around me. As I went about my business I passed by the group that was creating the small event. Standing in the middle of these gentle Sylvari was a player that had transformed into a golem and was spinning, spamming spells etc. trying to disrupt the RPers anyway they could. Thankfully the RPers ignored this troll and they eventually got bored and left.

I later whispered one of the members to thank them for keeping RP alive despite the disruptions being caused by the new megaserver implementation.

So I just wanted to extend that gratitude to everyone who is still RPing despite the added chaos this megaserver adjustment period has caused. It really is appreciated, even by those of us who don’t usually actively partake in RP events.

We try, my friend…
It’s not the same anymore, and being dumped into a different instance with different people every time, makes it even harder to find your RP buddies, or even people who actually role play.

And when I asked why are so many useful and constructive feedback thereads like that, and the Save our Spawn from the gw2community being CENSORED locked, my post got infracted and deleted, saying that we should not discuss how the forum is run. And that’s not what I discussed. I just observed that Anet KNOWS OUR OPINION on this matter BUT CHOOSES NOT TO ACT. And that’s not just my opinion, that blog post on the final megaserver roll-out is the clear proof of the everything-is-great-and-awesome-and-will-be-more-awesome head-in-the-sand approach, without addressing a single of our concerns posted in accordance to the Giving the Constructive feedback thread, for example, like on this page . There is also plenty for useful proposals on how to make the best out of the current situation, but sadly that hasn’t been acknowledged either.
About 10,000 players (perhaps more) in the current Megaboss Allainces have voiced their concerns (in a civilised fashion!), yet those threads have also been ignored or locked.

Sadly, with that kind of response, I’m afraid we should accept the end of the game that we all loved: pre-April GW2.

If they said otherwise on the main page, it would have gathered negative feedback and questions from people who want to try the game, or reviewers.

What gets me thinking however, is that wherever i go, i encounter guild-less people, and it’s something i’ve never seen before, even from day 1… I suppose considering recent events and how everything gets zerg’ed lately, people don’t need (or feel the need) to form or join a guild. They know that even if they stay solo, they’ll be able to sit idle in one spot, spam the 1st weapon skill, and kill even the most difficult enemy.

No, i won’t accept the end of a game i like yet. Hope dies last, they say, and i do hope for a “fix” around mid May. A-net’s recent attitude towards our concerns however, is a whole different ball game.

You know what i really miss, lately? Random IC encounters while doing PvE content around Tyria. Back in the old days, when i was tired (or bored to properly level up), i used to toggle my walk, then move around, IC chatting with the people. It was a good opportunity to socialize with my fellow players (and RPlayers), and it made my friends list richer each time.

Now? Yes, we have a vast number of people everywhere. The areas feel “lively” and “vibrant” with the variety of players zerging around. A-net is “excited” about it as well. You can even feel the warmth…….of your GPU overheating when you encounter said people…

But RP is simply dead. I only got one random encounter in the game after Skynet took over, and the person stopping me, was kind enough to ask : “how do u walk?”… It definitely felt like one and a half year of RP has fallen down the drain.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but it would really help not just for RP, but for everyone in-game, to have a map cycle option included in, so that we can re-roll ourselves to the shards we want to fall in, aside from either partying up with someone, or going to character select screen to just change shards you’re in.

I’ve suggested the same thing for more than…..well, i’ve lost count.

The guild missions do need refinement to stop collisions occurring.
Some suggestions: [ANET likes positive suggestions]
1) guild Bounty: if a guild has an active bounty and a second bounty is active from another guild with matching people to find – It maps the second guild to a new megaserver instance. Load balancing of players happens between the two maps for new incoming players
2) guild Puzzle: if a guild puzzle is active and a second one activates the same puzzle.
The second guild is ported to a new map.
3) guild challenge: same as above.
4) guild rush: same as above.

Please let us know if this would work / sound reasonable?

What you’re suggesting, were supposed to be a feature of the megaserver from day one, which obviously doesn’t work.

As for A-net liking positive suggestions? I would correct it, by saying that “A-net likes constructive suggestions.” And this thread is full of those. We’ve been yelling about our concerns (and adding suggestions) for about a month now, and instead of an answer or fixes, the megaserver just moved to the entire game, even at it’s early alpha state. And what was the “official” reply? "We know that the megaserver is “bleeding”, but we’ll apply band aids and patch it up. But what about all the blood loss that’s already forming a pool on our feet?

Well, i’m terribly sorry, but if you make me choose between my own home server and megaserver at it’s current state, my answer is definitely my home server.

Seriously, how much more time A-net requires to give us a decent answer about all this? Even high end PC’s don’t manage to enjoy the game to it’s fullest with the megaserver on. Was it really necessary to put every server into a grinder and create a mush of of what used to be the community?

So these are my questions, i simply “ask” someone from A-net to come forward and answer them.

  • Cities do NOT have PvE content, why are they added to the megaserver?
  • Low level areas were ALWAYS full of people, why are they added to the megaserver?
  • Guilds kept people together, why are they chopped to pieces by the megaserver?
  • Friends lists kept friends together, why are they crippled by the megaserver?
  • RPlayers chose a world to be able to safely and freely RP together, why are they torn apart by the megaserver?
  • World and Dynamic Events were enjoyable, why have they’ve turned into a collection of zerg swarms by the megaserver?

I don’t appreciate having my GPU fried each time i dare to log into the game and try to level up my characters. I don’t appreciate having to stay in one spot “spamming” the 1st skill over and over, or struggling to get a target while everything dies in 1 second either.

I heard somewhere that they said that WvW will remain as is, as it wouldn’t be WvW without the servers. I’ll simply reverse this claim, simply saying that there’s no GW2 without our home servers. You want variety and more people in some areas? Add a feature that allows the player to choose where to go, if the players in his home world instance are below 40.

You know, A-net? If someone out there added a “megaserver” to their game, doesn’t mean that every company in the world has to copy it. Some things are better left untouched. I said it before, i’ll say it again : Go out there, and do some research about how megaservers work, and then we can talk…

I had no problem with the Megaservers until today.

I play on Crystal Desert. I like it, I’ve been on here for over a year (Switched over from NSP), and the community has been pretty good. I like the server culture. And one thing I like is a lack of RPers. I know that Tarnished Coast was the unofficial RP server in most people’s minds, and I was more than happy to stay off the Tarnished Coast server whenever possible.

Now, with the Megaserver, there is no division. I am forced into a server with people who, in my mind, do nothing but spam the chat and make annoyances. To add insult to injury, ANet has apparently been too short sighted to consider this might be a problem. Blocking someone does nothing to stop their emotes, and you have to manually add someone to the block list via the friends panel if they are using nothing but emotes, as you can’t right click on an emoted name.

ANet, please address this. Either revert cities back to the way they were, or add the ability to block people who are using nothing but emotes.

You don’t say anything we haven’t suggested or cried over already. You hate RP, i love RP. We are two worlds who will never collide…….at least that’s what’s been happening until the megaserver. This server mashup isn’t healthy the way it is, and like you well said, we picked up a home world for a reason.

You can’t throw everything on the same salad and expect that it’ll be edible…

Today, megaserver almost fried my PC, as it caused my GPU to overheat (106 Celcius according to my temperature monitor), due to zerg all around me… And on Wayfarer Foothills… And on LOW settings (i used to play on high)… Lately i avoid doing any world events / Champions, for that sole reason, but encountering such a serious problem on a starter zone? That’s simply absurd.

Earlier, i had a really nasty experience i would like to share with you guys, as i’m in a lot of RAGE right now!

I have been playing GW2 since the beta. And on a daily basis, as there were days when my guild was doing events, and of course RP (Piken Square).

During that time, from day 1 until the megaserver, i’ve been running the game on High settings, getting 57 – 60 FPS. Everything was normal, and my GPU was getting a temperature around 82 – 87 Degrees Celcius, which considering my GPU is fairly normal.

Since the megaserver popping into the game, i had halted all my leveling/PvE activities, due to zerg simply infesting everything. But heck, i like the game… So i decided to get my settings to low (anything else isn’t viable while leveling now) and give my Engineer some levels. She’s not THAT high (level 23), so i decided to take her to Wayfarer Foothills for some additional (and casual) leveling.

My path led me to the grawl cave in the valley, where the Corrupted imp spawns, and the event had just started… So i went in. About 5 seconds later, a horde followed, dropping my FPS to 29… on low settings… The skill spamming was a nightmare, and it was almost impossible to see my character, or even move around……..until my GPU temperature monitor started beeping, for the first time since i got my PC… The GPU had exceeded 106 degrees Celcius.

The last thing i was able to see, was a massive stuttering on my screen, as if a faulty video was playing, and then my GPU simply shut down, causing me to lose the signal. About 2 seconds later, the PC lost power, and a smell of burning chips filled the air. Megaserver had almost fried my gaming rig.

Oh, and.. before you start saying things about my PC being faulty, i run games a LOT heavier than GW2, and on high settings, without having any issues, or overheating problems.

So i said it once, i’ll say it again : ArenaNet, the megaserver isn’t working properly. Either FIX the GODkitten thing, or get rid of it, until it’s bug free and working! The first thing you must, not need, must do, is drop the instance population limit. I have no plans to lose my 2000+ Euros PC simply cause you decided to throw an early alpha feature on our heads.
