When a company doesn’t care about RolePlay in their game, adding such a feature would’ve been “lame” from their part. So even though you’re right, and even though other games added housing and got a huge cash grab from all the RPlayers (and not) in their game, it’s not going to work in GW2.. Why? You say it yourself on the first post of this thread. Why would they bother now? The damage has already been done, and i doubt the two once grand RP communities (TC and PS) will return to their former glory if Anet decides to throw a bauble at their feet and try to lure them back in.

You forgot the RP communities feedback, but more or less you covered it all up.

Perhaps if they’ve given us a reason to actually SPEND money instead of crippling the game would’ve been a nicer course of action.

You know how ArenaNet will bring me back into the game? By ditching the megaserver or making it optional, remove all the level gated nonsense and return the leveling system back to it’s original state, and by fully unlocking the traits, like it was when i started playing, and fully supported the game. It’s just, that, simple.

I personally never supported this change, nor I approve what’s happening to simply “help” new players understand the already simple game’s mechanics. The game was ridiculously easy from day one. Yes, some deaths were involved at first (my first char was an Elementalist), but it was easy to learn and familiarize with the game. It wasn’t a “Stay in one spot, spam 1, dead foe” game, it had variety, and what I treasured the most, was the fact that nothing I was doing aside from a minority of things was level gated.

But I’ll play the devil’s advocate on myself, as a coin has two sides…

I wouldn’t mind such a change, even the horrendous trait lock April brought, but only if it was my brand new character, on a brand new account. Take my time, get to know the game, unlock everything in the process, learn…. (was already easy to do so in the first place) …..the game’s mechanics, and enjoy the personal story from start to finish. Now that’s something almost any new player would’ve wanted.

Sadly, I’m not a new player, and seriously I can’t see myself struggling through a level gated nightmare if I dare to start a new character. 2 years of gameplay, 640+ levels on my back, and I’ve to “learn to dodge” for example?

So why not give a “Veteran” or “Enhanced Mode” option to an account who has let’s say leveled up a character (or two, or even five!) to 80, allowing him to avoid all that level gated nonsense/trait lock if he rolls a new character? I believe a player deserves a “Skip Tutorial” feature, don’t you think? Cause let’s face it, even a “newb” won’t stay a “newb” forever.

I simply do not like the changes. The joke that’s now Guild Wars 2 isn’t what I bought and supported.

When I first started the game, I was really amazed by how simple, fun and engaging it was. I consider myself to be a mediocre dum gamer, and it actually took me 10 minutes to fully understand it’s mechanics. Yes, laugh at me for taking so much time, I did the same..

The sole reason I kept playing and supporting the game, was it’s core mechanics. Leveling how I wanted, getting the weapons I wanted to use from start and concentrating my builds around them, playing around with Traits in order to find the most comfortable one, and goes on.

Now, instead of having my freedom, and despite of what ArenaNet was claiming from day one, the game leveling has changed from driving a “Race Car” to a “Bulldozer” on April. And now, instead of even that, we drive a “Diesel Locomotive”, adjusted to a rail which we can’t stray from it, cause the game doesn’t allow it anymore.

As for being faster? It is slightly, yes. Just slightly. But do check what we had on level 15 before, and what you have now. I’ll take my Elementalist for an example. Before this mashup on level 15, I had a “complete” set of weapon skills, both for my Staff and Scepter/Dagger, my underwater skills as well, all my 4 elements unlocked, 2 out of 3 of my “special” skills open, and a variety of traits to back them up. Oh, and 18 transmutation crystals.

Now, what do i get on level 15? I won’t actually say what, as it’ll get this post deleted for using foul language.

Speaking of which, I have a question about a matter I didn’t even bother trying after hearing the level gating on underwater skills : What happens if a low level char tries to swim or dive? Is the game giving him a "Sowy, you can’t dive underwater cause you’re a “toddler” and don’t know how to hold your breath until level 130"?

Then it’s probably a bug, the game has a lot of, these days..

There are no more servers anymore my friend, only chaos. Although, you should try Piken Square, it is…….was, the unofficial EU RP server of the game, until megamauler ripped it to shreads.

Try to join the server on a weekend day or late at night. It sometimes works (apparently).

“Sometimes” is the keyword here, as most of the time now, when people are “fewer” on the map, you get the good old “Your instance will close, move to a high populated area please” message.

ArenaNet isn’t running the show. NcSoft does. And NcSoft doesn’t want Guild Wars 2 to be a better game than the ones their “native” devs make. So probably their main plan is to turn this game into a joke, in order to shove people to Wildstar and Blade & Soul, and then shut it down, getting rid of the last “western” influence in their games.

Does the names Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa and City of Heroes ring a bell? Why would Guild Wars be any different in the long run?

There are trolls here and there, but if you take your time to read people’s posts from start to finish, you’ll realize that the majority weren’t at all bitter at first… They simply turned into what you describe, cause the company they invested in, in order to provide them with a fun game, stabbed them in the back.

For example, how would you’ve felt if you were dining in your favorite restaurant, and instead of the usual well cooked steak you ordered and paid for, you got raw fish? Congratulations, my dear ArenaNet. I have nothing further to say to you.. You just put the last nail to the coffin for this game. And why? I still can’t find an answer considering your actions since last April…

I suppose we don’t count as players to you, we count as wallets, and some wallets have stopped spending cause instead of giving them something worth to spend upon, you kept putting bandages to an imaginary wound. I suppose new players won’t see said “wound”, as they cannot see beyond the bandages and how beautiful and engaging the game used to be.

It’s a shame, really.. This game had a lot of potential. Instead, you re-wrote what was already written, you broke what wasn’t broken, and now the game feels empty… Hollow if you wish, a shadow of it’s former self… There’s no fun anymore, not even a little bit. There’s no uniqueness… The game feels more like Aion or Lineage 2 now… No, let me rephrase, it feels like “Yet another NcSoft title.”

In conclusion… ArenaNet, I hope you’re proud of your work, and I wish you the best, considering the path you’ve taken. Do forgive me for being bitter, though. I’m just a lowly ex loyal fan / customer.

The problem is, that despite our feedback, our cries, even our “ranting” if you can call it, A-net isn’t exactly in charge of this game, NcSoft is. Obviously the game is too “Western” for them, and they want to change it to feel more…. “comfortable”, despite the impact it’ll have on us.

I’ve kept my “peace” for many months now, as my frustration about Anet’s silence considering core matters made me me rather bitter. However, seeing this thread, I’ve decided to add my voice (if it’s heard, that is) here, and express my feelings towards the shadow of what used to be Guild Wars 2.

I am not happy. Not even a little bit. In fact, I’m confused with Anet’s direction and actions since April, as they make no sense.

I’m here since the beta, even got the deluxe version of the game. It wasn’t from day 1, i got it a few months later. Pretty much a pointless “upgrade” considering what the Deluxe version offers. But! Seeing the game, playing it, and actually getting involved in the game’s awesome Role Playing community (Piken Square), I felt that supporting Anet and help them upgrade the game further, was the right thing to do.

So i kept spending… Real money, not exchanging gold. Gems after gems, and more gems, buying costumes, useless and vanity items just for the heck of it, and also cause I’m a Role Player, so i wanted my character to look and feel exactly as he was meant to.

The game was awesome. Probably the best MMO i’ve played. Allowing you to level up your character the way you wanted, get the build you wanted, repeat stuff with your high level chars without hindering the new players, visit zones at will, even play as you felt like it: Casually, or pushing yourself to the limits.

All was well until the kitten April downgrade. I can’t call it a feature pack, as all it brought was nothing but trouble.

We lost the awesome and versatile trait system over a bunch of nonsense, so far for reasons unknown. Please, don’t tell me it was confusing and needed a re-vamp, as the system worked perfectly, and was ridiculously easy to understand!

Then Skynet wannabe was added as well, and we lost our communities over a faceless populated monster, who can’t even communicate with itself as Europe has many languages compared to the US or China. And instead of monitoring it in limited areas, it was rushed throughout the game without even considering the consequences.

Now, the next “feature” pack is 7 days away, and from what I’ve seen, it further breaks the game… So yes, it’s not fun anymore..

And now, they started deleting my posts, so I rest my case. I can obviously tell now that i’m fighting for a lost cause, and being ignored for months probably made me a bit bitter.

We’ve all been in the same shoes since April. We all share the same frustrations and issues. People repeat the same things again and again, and again, and again over the last three months now… What’s been done to fix the issues? Absolutely nothing. The game moves on as if nothing has happened, so i suppose they’re happy. It doesn’t matter if we aren’t.

This will be my last post on these forums. I’ve wasted enough of my time trying to yell through a soundproof glass door. I wish you guys good luck with this struggle.

The lack of communication is infuriating! They expect us to just keep holding out, waiting for changes to be made. Funny thing is that is what we’re doing isn’kitten Before we know it a year will go by and we’ll be wondering why we let them shaft us.

Eventually, all players that respect themselves and their wallet, will stop their support until a fix is implemented. Lack of funds raises up an alarm, and it’ll be either addressed accordingly, or shut down in areas that are causing damage. A.K.A. US/EU.

They don’t need us now, they have China.

If you enjoy being tossed into an unknown crowd each time you log in, then yeah… Do come back. If not, i advise against it. The game is the same as you remember since day 1 though, nothing has changed, except for some polish, and the living story, which comes and goes.

Have you tried to RP in let’s say Ebonhawke, lately? Earlier today, we got a visit from a troll who kept trolling our RP in the inn for more than 30 minutes.. Eventually we left, he didn’t.. So basically he drove everyone off, as he was spamming everything he could spam.. From power-ups, powers, emotes, you name it…

One of our RP mates went dizzy from the flashes that guy was causing, simply turning the game into a health hazard. I won’t name and shame him as if i do, this post will be deleted, but i welcome a dev to PM me, to simply chat about him and trolling in general a little bit. Ignorance is not a bliss in this case, A-net.

I want to play a game to have fun and Role Play with my friends, i don’t want it to make me have an epilepsy crisis.

I’m also tired of suggesting solutions, as the issue is almost 3 months old now. So i give them a small window to fix the kitten megaserver until July the 1st. Living story grand re-opening, with a working game.

Oh, i use the name in pure sarcasm over this whole joke of a system. Using that name for real, would be an “insult” towards the “real” Skynet, don’t you think?
Skynet or not however, “Judgement Day” has already happened on April the 15th for this game, when all communities turned into one gigantic blob. And all after a big lie from A-net about it : “We’ll keep Skynet on selected areas and see how it goes”. Instead of that, we got the kitten downgrade everywhere within a few days, and nobody asked or even cared to actually think about the impact it has on the game.

Everything feels alien now, familiar faces have gone, familiar guilds have gone, each time you log in, you see complete strangers over and over again. And quite often, people who got lost in translation due to not understanding what’s been typed, or being blocked by a chat plug.

So there, i’ll be blunt this time, as i’m really tired of being ignored. A-net : You said you have a team working to fix the megaserver issues. So come forward already, name them issues, tell us what are you planning to fix, when are you planning to release said fix, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you brought to 5000+ of your customers and supporters, who keep fighting for this game instead of leaving for a different one. We need some answers, and we need them yesterday.

As for the chat plug? Give the guys a break, i bet it was something developed after a night out clubbing, or late hour party… They were probably drunk when they added it, and haven’t realized it yet.

Touching video indeed, and i definitely miss this sort of thing… Something that was happening in-game since day one… You know, A-net’s attitude lately, reminds me of Amy’s Baking Company. They’re in complete denial of the damage they’ve done to their game, and instead of fixing the damage, they praise it.

There are 4000+ negative posts over 3 threads already about the damage Skynet has done, not including the deleted threads, simply stating the obvious. So either all of these people are wrong, or there’s an internal error… You do the math.

Server based instances would’ve been a nice idea, giving priorities accordingly. Giving one instance per server, and others as filling ones. And of course, manual instance selection upon entering the game/zoning.

Example :
You are about to log-in to the game, please select an instance – Your home world is Piken Square.

Instance #1 – Piken Square (English) – ## Players Online – Recommended
Instance #2 – Jade Sea (French) – ## Players Online
Instance #3 – Abaddon’s Mouth (German) – ## Players Online

Or, if that requires too much IQ to understand, (Simply translating A-net’s claim about the trait mashup for being too complicated), add an “Automatically Instance Selection” feature in the options menu. And keep it on by default, we won’t mind!

I suffer from too much lag to try and play on a US server myself. But from what i’ve seen in-game, things are indeed bad.. So far, 3 guilds i was involved with excluding my own, have been silenced. Nobody logs in, and if they do, it’s for a few minutes. Nobody has the right mood to RP in the game anymore.

Excluding that? The last weeks i’ve yet to see one familiar face from the old Piken Square anywhere on the game. The old RP hubs have been silenced, there’s nobody there. Even taverns involving some of the most active guilds on my server are left empty.

I feel that the RP future in this game is bleak.

Heh, i would love to join up, but there’s a small issue : My ping with US servers isn’t exactly a cup of tea, so i get bad lag during normal circumstances. Even my chat messages have about 20 to 25 seconds delay to be posted. So imagine how the game will feel if i actually join up with Skynet running.

Then again, i doubt i’ll be placed on TC anyway, as Skynet thinks i’m French, and it keeps dropping me to French instances…..9 times out of 10, every time i log into the game, since last week… O.o

You know, even naming one issue and fix it would’ve been satisfying for me, knowing that they’re actually working on the issues, instead of getting void predefined replies.

My dear A-net : I chose an English server (Piken Square), primarily cause i love to RP, and cause i find the English language comfortable for gaming. So can you PLEASE explain to me why 9 times out of 10 i end up on a French instance!? Yes, i speak a little French, but they’re not enough for me to feel comfortable playing the game in French. As a result, i simply log out and play something else. And don’t tell me that the cork you added to “Filter” the languages is a good idea… It simply makes people wrapped up in a bubble, with no communication with the outside world. Is this good for an MMO? Think about it.

Instead of adding the plug you added, wouldn’t it be better for your ultra dumb downgraded and broken version of Skynet to understand someone’s client language or maybe his home server language and place him accordingly, hmm?

This is really becoming tiresome. We want to play a game to relax and have fun, not to be stressed out and be frustrated.

At least that explains why i don’t see any familiar face anymore while i play. Not that i was seeing them often since the downgrade, but they were still there…….occasionally….

And again another big patch, fixing various issues…….and no megaserver mentioning anywhere. Are you A-net people in denial? Do you refuse to see the mass exodus Skynet is causing to your game? Are we important enough to be noticed, or you simply turned your attention to China?

Of course Chinese players wouldn’t mind Skynet, as it’s there from day 1 for them, they didn’t see their over a year and a half communities shatter like we did. And of course, they don’t have the language issues we have. Just to refresh your memory, the “paper plug” you used for a… “fix” for EU players doesn’t work.

So i would appreciate a “Fixed a various megaserver issues” (or better yet : "Removed Megaserver from # of areas and main cities / LA due to overpopulation) on your next Tuesday’s update. Thank you.

Guys, don’t give them ideas, as they’ll make the home instances part of Skynet, allowing a big random crowd to populate the instance (see main cities) instead of what we have right now.

I personally stopped RPlaying in this game for about 2 weeks now. My old guild went back to SWTOR, and i followed, as RP in our game feels “empty” and “meaningless” lately.

One part of me is happy, as the RP feeling is back on the server we play (The Progenitor – RP PvE), but another is really sad, cause we used to have that in Guild Wars 2 too, on Piken Square… And it was awesome… And i miss it… And i want it back…

I’m not getting my hopes up for a fix anymore, but i keep an eye out to see whether the RP factor is amongst the “issues” A-net’s dedicated team is working to improve.

Yes, that’s a question i also want to ask.

It’s a little too late, if you ask me. The damage has already been done. But i do hope you’ll fix the Guild, Friends, RP, Zerg, Gold Selling Spam, Racist, Language, Event (am i forgetting something here?) “issues” you introduced when you downgraded the game.

I do hope you’ll value our feedback who’s out there for months now, and act accordingly.

EDIT : Are these issues going to be fixed before July the 1st?

I agree the cities should have been exempt. As to that quote from the other game, it’s my understanding they still intend to implement it in future patches but yes, it does show it’s more complex than it looks on its face to properly set up such a system.

It remains imperative to do so, however. If the system’s touted as putting players with like-minded people, it needs to actually do so, and do it naturally and intuitively from the player’s point of view.

And then of course, ditch WvW completely, and make it IvI (Instance Vs. Instance). Why keep that intact? If they want to downgrade the game, let them do so, but completely, not only for PvE.

If the system was working and we were actually placed with people with the same liking, nobody would’ve complained… not that much, anyway.

Adding the main cities to Skynet has no purpose. Removing them would’ve saved (at least a part of it) our RP events, and we could get together with our own server there. I really miss the quiet the Grove had on my server for example, and the nice and relaxing RP i used to do. Now, main cities are untouchable for me, as extreme lag, FPS drop and overheating GPU crashes are lurking in every corner…

What race do you RP? Last I heard, Formidae Labs (FMD) is recruiting. Could work if you’re an asura. And a few friends and I are trying to start working with sylvari RP. We want to experiment and figure out some good conventions for sylvari culture and behavior, so maybe we can pull together people who want more interesting, thoughtful sylvari RP.

My “main” chars are humans, but i RP almost with any race (Charr not included – being an oversized cat was never my thing). Would love to meet up and RP with you if that’s the case. Not sure if Skynet mashes up EU and US servers together though. As for a guild? It’s not in my immediate plans, i’ll wait for a dramatic announcement by A-net about ditching (or fixing) Skynet first.
