Clearing Cache

I would like to propose a way to manually clear cache in GW2. Currently, there are only three files in the GW2 program file (Gw2.dat, Gw2 and Gw2.tmp). I admit; I currently do not know how the game (if at all) clears the game’s cache data. However; due to the anal retentive nature that I have (I like to clear/clean my system every week), I cannot clear the cache manually to improve my computing and/or game experience.

By all means; if someone knows how the game clears the cache, I would appreciate the input of that as well.

Dear ANet,
It has been more and more apparent over the months that certain things are not being addressed and/or maintained. A new “large” content patch comes out, lag issues are fixed; however there are bugs to other aspects of the game. It seems that things aren’t being taken seriously in the Quality Assurance department of the development team. This is why separation of duties is such a large part of being IT professionals; so the QA time can produce the newly changed programming but the administration team can implement it IFF (if and only if) meets quality standards help up by ANet.

I propose that on top of separation of duties; you implement some form of change management logs. Bugs in the programming is actually why things like this exist in the IT field. That way you can look back at what was changed; and see what has changed from the functioning programming to the newly bugged programming. Instead of trying to discover new fixes for bugs; revert the programming of the bugged area to the functional data.

Please ANet; don’t continue down the path you are on. If you can’t produce the quality you are after; don’t release it on the public until it is finished. This is was PTR testing is for.

I know I’m speaking from my opinion only; but I would have rather them held off on releasing the game. Clearly it was NOT a finished product. Perhaps I’m the only one who remembers, but what happened to the “It’ll be ready when it’s ready” Arena Net; who wanted to make the game perfect, instead of catering to the share holders (Nexon).

Just wanted to chime in that for the last 24 hours straight I’ve plugged away at changing graphics settings, trying windowed vs fullscreen, etc. I’ve had several friends who really know their stuff helping me troubleshoot all these crashes and so far the cause is pretty mysterious (when looking at my machine). I just bought the game and have been looking forward to playing, but it is currently unplayable with the frequency of interruptions and hard resets. I did manage to get a few lucky crashes that actually had a crash log, so i’ll share here, in case any of you have suggestions for me.

1. Was a game data being stupid crash
2. Hard drive error while reading the program, which caused game to crash
3. You ran out of memory; whether it be virtual or physical, GW2 is putting the cache data somewhere where it ran out of memory.

My Idea Of The Ideal Dungeon Build Composition

Am I the only one who sees problems w/ posts like this one? “Guides on ideal group comp.” As a developer I’d look at these threads and think that I have failed at what I set out to do. Removing the “trinity;” while a good idea has been poorly implemented here. If you have to choose “ideal” group comps, then something is seriously wrong with the game. This clearly means that either the stats are worth too much or too little; and/or that the skills certain classes have, need reworking. Even if the game isn’t “broken,” if players in the general community feel that you need the “ideal” comp to succeed in this game; you have failed at your idea and need to scrap it or tweak it.

Not Doing Them Anymore(Personal Stories)

Truthfully I have no idea what’s so difficult in the story quests; other than perhaps the very last one, since you need a group to do the instance.

I’ve completed the personal story three separate times; on an elementalist, and two guardians (including Priory, Vigil and Whispers stories). Some classes do make you pay a bit more attention while doing things, but it’s never impossible (unless it’s bugged).

As for the content though; after the “About you” parts; it does really fall flat in terms of interesting.

Annoying Sound Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Aura.9530

This might just be my two cents here; but perhaps if ANet introduced some sort of sound toggle on/off feature. This would at least allow players who have the sound bug to turn off the sound, preventing the game from crashing due to (no offense) poor coding.

At least from my experience; I have tried adjusting the sliders every which way, with no results. Even with the sounds turned all the way down the bug still persists, because the sound can’t be turned off.

But at least by adding a turn on/off feature; this can allow players some relief, while they finally decide to invest in quality of programming over quantity. And yes, you can mute GW2 in windows; but that does nothing to help the in-game programming. So you’d still have the sound bug/crash; but you won’t hear it.

Check out my edit in my previous post about resetting the modem. Hopefully help someone! Good luck.

This is just as bad as all the BS the NC Soft team feeds you.

I can’t stress this enough. It’s something w/in the programming of the game itself. You can run all of the maintenance and preventative measures from here to kingdom come. Whatever they have changed to the structure of the game since roughly the Karka event has caused the game itself to become very unstable.

This is actually really easy to read; which makes me laugh because the NCSoft support team apparently can’t read them correctly. Your game was trying to use an animation that was “missing.” Which usually means it’s trying to do something your specific character cannot do. Again; this falls back on bad programming.

I hate to say this but don’t listen to ANYTHING ANet’s “technical support” tells you about this issue. I have a similar issue w/ my system and I’m using 64 bit Vista. It’s entirely on THEIR end; they simply don’t want to admit it to anyone, which is entirely shady.

I once documented all of my crashings in a one week span (Around 30 crashes), I compiled all of my data and sent it to the NCSoft support team. They turned around and gave me the same B.S. answer that “Ashley Segovia” gave you just now.

Over the course of little more than 5 days, I ran EVERYTHING that this “specialized team” proposed. Everything I did turned out just fine; they even admitted it. So what it comes down to is that ONE of these companies (NCSoft or ArenaNet) is pumping out very crappy code without quality checking their work.

In short; you can run all the .exe’s you want; it won’t help a thing, unless they actually fix their botched programming.

There is also one HUGE downside that screw w/ “free town” waypoints. If you are in an instance in any of the towns; and you cannot get out (As in when you run back to the entrance but there is no prompt to leave due to bad programming) you have to pay to get back to the city, which is hugely kitten btw.

Truthfully there is no reason for you to get snippy or rude at this post. Just because you are loud; doesn’t make you important enough to influence people by attacking them.

I posted this SUGGESTION in the SUGGESTION forums. I’m sorry I don’t feel like routing through hundreds upon hundreds of forum threads to find one w/ similar wording or topic content.

Frequent Game Crashes

Aura.9530

I’m not sure what’s been going on exactly; but since the Karka event a few months ago, I’ve been experiencing horrid and frequent game crashes. Now; let’s be straight, I’m talking about crashes, not disconnects.

The crashes vary in frequency; this means they could happen if I log into the game for 1 minute; or a few hours. Either way, still crashes.

The crashes also vary in causes; however, the most frequent ones are missing animations, cannot find “bone” w/ that name, and model un-linking errors.

I finally gave up on trying to find a solution on my own after spending roughly a week and a half of back-and-forth w/ the support ticket (NC Soft) team. They have completely cleared my system for hardware and networking errors. This includes ping plotter, the game manager and other various other programs they had me download. I currently defragment and perform other clean up operations at least once a day to try and keep my system up and running.

These are the results from the DxDiag:

WvWvW in 100% Map Completion

Aura.9530

I am imploring that ANet removes WvWvW maps from the 100% map completion achievement. It is greatly aggravating being literally blocked from content for weeks, even months. On top of that this is FORCING players who like being completionists in PvE content to PvP to get the completion from a task that is very annoying and a chore as it stands currently.

As logic stands; it doesn’t even make sense to have these maps count toward the achievement; as they are NOT part of the world that you actually explore during everyday game play (unless you like to roam in WvWvW).

If it isn’t removed; at least make a compromise to the map exploration. Give us a neutrality option to prevent us from being ganked; and grants us access to ALL of the PoI’s and Vistas. This could be done by making instanced versions of these maps in which only other neutral players can access. This could be queued for by placing a check box in the WvWvW window that would signify you want to be a neutral party, and thus be placed in the instanced versions of the maps. This would prevent people from “spying” on the other worlds; and still allow players who are only there to complete maps, to do so in peace.

Changing Giver's Armor Stats

You are aware that the stats on the armor is Toughness, Healing power, and 1% Boon duration. While I give up a few point in healing power; I gain survival by using the more toughness. I.e. I’m harder to kill which allows me to heal the group more. I’m a support Guardian; if I die then I can’t provide ANY support.

Changing Giver's Armor Stats

Aura.9530

First of all; let me start by saying that the giver gear (armor) is not in the least bit useless. I also have to say they extra 5% boon duration is not ALL that I have. It works in tandem w/ my other traits and runes.

Between the 5% on the armor, the 10% from my traits, and the 15% extra boon duration from the Superior Rune of the Monk; I sit at 30% extra boon duration for normal boons.

For protection; however, the armor gives the 5%, 10% from traits, 15% from the superior Rune of the Monk, AND the additional 20% protection duration from the superior Rune of Earth. This gives my protection a grand total of 50% duration increase.

So taking all of this into account; this is why I have 5/6 pieces of Giver’s armor, and the rest of the gear I have is Cleric’s, aside from the back piece, which is Soldier. I do this for a reason; you can’t take a stat combination and call it useless, unless you think of ways to use it in combination w/ other things.

Y’all really are daft. I play a support guardian. I use 5/6 giver’s gear in combination w/ my runes and traits. When my protection procs I usually sit at roughly 8-25 seconds of it depending on which proc gives the initial buff.

Since release I have rolled and re-rolled classes. I finally found one I like (guardian) and went through the process of gearing up. I ran into a wall though while researching Ascended and Back pieces in general. In the entire game there is NOT one Cleric back piece above masterwork quality in the ENTIRE game. The same applies for Ascended items; again, not ONE in the entire game.
I’m not sure if this is Arena Net forcing us to choose specific items; or they simply don’t want to make them. I would really like to know the answer; since I can’t play the game exactly “my way.”

Is it me or on the Stag set leggings (for females); did the developers accidentally leave a part of the chest piece on the legs. For those who are wondering; I’m speaking of the little “tab” on the front of the leggings, below the navel. It looks like an after thought that wasn’t quite worked out. To make this piece match up or go away; you’re almost forced to purchase the chest piece.

So it short; please remove the weird tab thing and put it on the chest where it belongs.

Exotic Quality Back Slot Items:

Posted by: Aura.9530

Aura.9530

In the future I would like to see more back pieces put into the game. Currently, there is only three viable qualities of back brace items. I say only three; because currently the ONLY exotic choice of back brace currently in the game is from farming 1350 Fractal of the Mists vendor; however, it has NO upgrade slot at all, therefore it is inferior to even the “rare” quality back pieces.

I am aware that you don’t “have to” get these upgrades; however, it is only by farming either crafting materials or by farming fractal tokens, can the back piece be upgraded. It would be nice if in the near future they added a method of upgrading that did not involve farming and/or grinding.

It would also be amazing if they actually gave us the option to get any of the prefixes in the back slot items. For instance; for the cleric prefix, there are only two options in-game. One is the toy maker’s bag and the other is one that you receive from a personal story quest. This is quite a pain if you are after one set of complete gear with a certain prefix; but run into a wall, when it comes to back slots.

This COULD also be an only level 80 option if you’re that stressed about the leveling process. That way it’s only skill points; which at 80 you get unlimited amounts of anyway.

Some people put a lot of time and effort into their characters by the way; so some won’t want to just start over if they’ve put a great deal of time into whichever character they want to change. I myself have leveled two characters to 80; sometimes you get to that certain point and just want to change something that the makeover kits just can’t provide.

I think I have come up with a good way to implement race changes that will appease the masses.

1. Make the option available on the gem store for a set amount. (let’s say 2500 for the sake of ease)

2. The second condition would have to be one of the two options.
a) You must have already completed your personal story quest
b) You will have your personal story quest set back to the first mission

This will mean that your personalized Priory, Vigil or Order of Whispers armor/weapons will be unavailable till you choose which you want at that point in the story quest.

3. Your race specific armor will become unavailable to wear if you do change races

4. The race change would have to include a makeover as well; as a lot of races do not have the same combinations.

Contradictions

Today I happen to read the patch notes for the previous build patch. I happen to come across a few lines that reflected that Arena Net has yet again, reduced drop rates on certain items. This immediately sent up a red flag in my mind. Arena Net has come out and claimed in the past posts by developers that they do NOT want to game to be a grind, and that all players should have access to the same gear through different means; and that the only difference would be the rarity of the skins that certain weapons/armor have. It seems that they are purposefully doing just the opposite by reducing drops rates of items, making items less accessible to players of all walks of MMO life. My biggest case of this is Ascended items (i.e. the back piece and the new rings). These in particular add a fairly large deficit between exotic items and rare items. The rings aren’t as large of a jump in stats as the back pieces; which up until now, you could only get rare quality. This means that the jump in stats is roughly a four point jump in stats from worst to best (and yes, I am aware that you cannot put an exotic quality gem into the Ascended level of items). From here on in; I will use the back piece as the target of my frustration, as the Ascended rings have received an alternate means in which to obtain them. To get one of these spiffy new back pieces; you only have two methods of which to obtain them: grind materials or grind fractal tokens. Now this isn’t exactly giving players a choice on how they obtain gear. It’s still a grind, one way or the other. But wait, it gets better; you can upgrade the Fractal Capacitor two more times! Guess how!? If you said grinding more materials, you’d be right!

In closing; I will state that Arena Net has tried to keep it balanced thus far; please continue to do so, by making these items more easily obtainable; instead of putting us on a grind treadmill, in which we show interest in farming materials and thus we are punished for it by reducing drop rates on those items that we need.

Aura.9530

Does anyone know yet if the holiday achievement “Gift Bringer” is part of the meta achievement in order to get the “Apprentice Toymaker” title?

If it actually is linked with this achievement; I don’t believe this is actually fair to everyone who plays the game. This achievement is ENTIRELY reliant on other players actually letting you pick up the present. You could in fact go every match you play w/out ANY players letting you pick up the present, let alone capture it. This could go on for several years; unless this is nipped in the bud, before it becomes a larger issue from the player base. While I do know that Player vs. Player is an aspect of the game that they do want players to explore; making an achievement in this manner can make players who are after achievements or event wanting to have fun; very hostile and bitter towards a game and or the company that produces it. So in short; while I think the achievement should and could be left in the game, I propose that Arena Net removes it from the prerequisite for the meta achievement.
