I could tell you what it is; but no one will be happy at the answer. In a nut shell I can break it down to one word…Coding.
I’ve had these same issues since the Karka patch back in November; before that, everything ran peachy. Whatever they changed in their framework borked something that they still haven’t figured out. Despite thousands of logs being sent in; there’s something they haven’t found yet, or at least aren’t admitting to.
There could also be an alternative to the gem store by making these new (historical) cultural gear available by a vendor that could use achievement points as a currency. I’m thinking somewhere within the range of 600-1000 points for one piece of gear, as to give people who have been within the game a while some sort of incentive for doing many of the achievements.
I for one would love to see more cultural armor skins added into the game in order to give races more flair and make players feel like they would/could have options, in order to establish some sense of individuality. My guild mate; was going into detail the other night about how the Norn from the original Guild Wars were sort of like Vikings mixed with Native Americans in terms of clothing. They had metal armor, but they favored using leathers, furs, feathers, etc. While I also love the cultural gear already in place; I and many others would simply like options. However; I for one feel the cultural armor should feel more attuned to lore. For instance; there was a interesting NPC conversation in Lion’s Arch that went something like this:
Norn: We wear clothing to honor they spirits
Human: Well; you certainly don’t wear them for modesty.
This lends itself that Norn prefer to be more on the skimpy side of armor; covering only what they feel is important. Another reference of this is the new short story for Rox, the Charr. There is a small segment in jest that everyone has seen a Norn naked at least once, due to them favoring either not wearing clothing or barely anything at all.
It would also be an interesting development if in the future gem store; we could get historical clothing from some of our favorite heroes from the original Guild Wars. For a short example, I will post an image below of some of the options I would like to see:
Really? Useless? I play a berserker guardian when it tickles my fancy and I can say it’s far more useful than you think. The auto attack might be a tad underwhelming; but with the build I currently run with it, it’s not THAT bad. My auto’s can reach up to 1800 damage, the blind #2 skill, makes me pump out more damage by applying stacks of vulnerability, and the #3 skill does just as much damage if not more than the greatsword whirlwind, by reaching critical hits upwards of five thousand; on top of that it gives a short projectile barrier! Coupled with the focus for more defense and the additional blind; it does quite a bit of damage.
On top of everything; just note that this topic will most likely be moved to the “Guardian” class forum thread; as it is a class specific complaint.

I’ve been looking to get an Ascended Cleric back item; however, there is yet to be one released… makes me sad panda since I’m missing out on valuable stats.
I think the fact of no sense of time in this story is what’s actually bothering me; or lack of explanation of Braham. In my head, I’m thinking of it as: Eir just had Braham, while she was recovering from labor her and Borje talk it over and he takes Braham then and there. If there was some explanation of how this happened, it would help.
As I stated earlier; we don’t know how the events of the personal story and the living story tie in together, because of the lack of dates. Which mentally makes me think the living story happened AFTER Zhaitan; however, because we have no real impact on the world (you can help and entire zone and it would be in peril 20mins later from the same menace), it’s hard to say.
The more I think about it; I think what is getting me hot under the collar is the fact that the living story itself seems rather shoe-horned in. Actually this can be said for A LOT of the personal story as well; perhaps it’s the fact that we have no actual concept of how much time passes and/or when these events are supposed to be taking place. I’m still under the assumption that the living story is taking place after Zhaitan has been dealt w/ and that Eir has no reason to stay in the dark about her son and/or make an attempt to even be a bit of a parent.
This is most likely why I’m taking this out of context; I might not be fitting the story into the right spot on the time line. I’m thinking mayhaps; I’m just thinking ahead too far into the future.

Why do people keep putting culture and maternal instincts (nature) together? How does being a Norn have ANYTHING to do with her having emotions?
1. Eir is MUCH older than 40; she was young when Hoelbrak was being re-constructed into what we see in game from an encampment settlement.
2. Both Eir and Borje were very famous, not JUST Eir.
3. Eir started to make her own legend by defeating Jormag’s brood; BEFORE she even joined Destiny’s Edge.
4. We’re getting into the same dichotomy that Logan got crap for. She knew that Borje had Braham; but instead of taking care of her son, she decided it would be better to bolster her reputation by killing Jormag spawn and other dragon minions.
5. Despite both parents being known for being great warriors; apparently the journey to Cragstead was too hard on the old Borje (=P).
6. I was at least hoping the Eir, Braham thing would SORT of come to some kind of a close. An awkward cut scene where they Eir can actually be shown as a mother and not just giving him the cold shoulder; which she’s done for the entirety of this living story. Closure; that could have made me accept this more gracefully, but there wasn’t any.
Eir has been notable since before 7 years ago; which makes it that much more confusing about why she said she was young such. Her father was one of the great heroes of Jormag’s invasion of the north, so she has always been in the spotlight. The fact that Braham is 17 is also very odd; considering, like someone said earlier, Eir was around when Hoelbrak was just starting to blossom into a real settlement.
It just doesn’t logically make sense for Eir to have a son by birth. The fact that no one in Hoelbrak knew she even had one, let alone Destiny’s Edge is a pretty fairly large plot hole. It was entirely shoe-horned into the story. She didn’t even acknowledge she had a son till Cragstead was burned to the ground and he barged into Hoelbrak AFTER Rytlock told him to pretty much “F” off; but Braham wanted his friends, family and love interest back, so he went to Knut. Apparently ONLY then, did the entirety of Hoelbrak know that the famous Eir Stegalkin had a child. Another ironic epiphany that lends itself to the mystery that is Braham, is that his father was also said to have been very famous; thus word of his death would have spread like wildfire, reaching Hoelbrak that much sooner. The story could have had so much more depth if they would have simply made Braham her step-child. That would actually lend itself to the fact that he only came to Hoebrak as a last resort, because he didn’t want to interact with the woman who had a very complex relationship with his father.
As far as Eir being any different from Humans in terms of maternal instincts…You clearly don’t know how defensive women can be over their child. She is a Norn woman; that is a given, why could/should that affect how a parent feels about their child? It’s not a constant, but even most species of animals care for their young. Eir obviously has emotions and feelings like EVERYONE else. Why do you think she fell into such a deep depression after the whole Kralkatorrik incident? She clearly felt very responsible for what happened to Snaff; Zojja was emotionally compromised as well, which is why she blamed Eir’s plan for failing, simply adding salt to the already open wound. That is why I really do not believe Eir could think of just “abandoning” her child; it doesn’t seem to be her nature. The lore also states that Eir raised Garm from a young pup, and that he thought of her as the Alpha. So essentially, the story writers have pretty much stated that Eir loves her pet/partner wolf, more than her flesh and blood son. Regardless of her being a Norn; she’s still a mother, first and foremost.
By all means; I want them to give her more character depth (As well as a unique voice actor), but I want them to do so logically. The writers have already stated that she is a fierce woman, an artist and a great strategist. It’s even been said that Garm thinks of her as the alpha in their small “pack.” I would love to find out more about Eir as a woman; aside from making people (like myself) fall in love with her; make her into a role model that women (or anyone else) can aspire to be.
(edited by Aura.9530)
So after completing the first living story…I have to say this.
ArenaNet; you’ve completely ruined Eir Stegalkin for me by introducing Braham and finishing the story on the same disappointing note that it started with.
When he was first introduced; I was already skeptical at the idea of Eir having a son, let alone one so old. On top of this NONE of the other members of Destiny’s Edge knew either, which is most definitely going to change their relationship with Eir in the coming expansions.
The final straw was that the story ended with Eir admitting that Braham is indeed her son and that he went to live with his father because they both thought it would be best for him. This flat out admitted that Eir was a negligent parent…Even after the father died; she never even sent him a letter acknowledging his existence…
Eir was my favorite member of Destiny’s Edge, despite her not having a unique voice actor. She came off as a deep introvert, who was starting to break out of her shell with her guild. Please; restore her to her former glory, she deserves better than this.
How dare you suggest that the game needs more social hangout and logical creation techniques! What do you think this is? An MMO?! XD Being facetious; but seriously it’d be fun if they implemented something else useful for the professions to do.
Bear! BEAR!
“You’ve discovered the Bear’s den! We should celebrate by fighting!”
“Bear approves of you. I can feel her little tail wagging in my heart.”
I gave options on what the thread was about…Then you asked what nexon had to do w/ it….
Here’s a great post on this issue: http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Meleagar/112012/24237_NCSoft-Sold-Arenanet-and-GW2-Out-For-Nexon-Investment
I mean more options for unique dialogue; add some flavor to your character kind of like how … SW:TOR did; right now our characters seem very shallow and empty in their dialogue. Maybe add more NPC’s you can pick fights w/, flirt w/, etc…
They have a majority stock in NCSoft… and have been in charge of making some vital decisions.. cough cough Changing dyes to be character bound and other things cough cough
While I agree some options need to be added perhaps we’re going about this the wrong way. Since Nexon loves its money; why not add more of individual things.
Tattoo kit -any race could add a tattoo
Hair Style kit -choose style and color from newer and more less race restrictive styles (Sylvari…sorry this part is kinda bias against you, but they can work it out)
Make up kit- change make up…
Self Style kit- hair options, tattoo options, make up options
Full makeover kit- ALL kits in one
Honestly if anything; it should give you new dialogue options like in many of the fine games produced by Bethesda. Nothing to affect the game outright, just something fun for the sake of being fun.
I think roughly four stat combinations do not have their back piece represented, if memory serves correctly; which is rather suspect if you really think about it. Why only are these few not included? There’s 0 reasoning behind it.
The issue is; for players who choose to have ALL of one suffix due to the stats they want to have, this is a fairly large amount (yeah yeah not THAT big) of stats unavailable to them because they refuse to implement them.
Well; first, you can drop the Black Qiraji mount; only one person per server got one, it was a race to unlock the raid.
Second; NO ONE is asking a legendary be gifted to them. We’re trying to get ANet to change the method in which to obtain one. We’re trying to get a different method established, since the current one isn’t fitting for obtaining a “legendary” item.
Third…Just because you’re upset that you couldn’t save Aerith from Sephiroth, doesn’t mean you have to take it out on us. You choose to ignore Tifa and go be “emo” in the outskirts of Midgar and cry over Zack’s sword; because in the end you figured out that you couldn’t live for him.
…Really? That’s all you took from this? Notice the line of “This can be said for a few other stat combinations in the game.”
So essentially what you’re saying is that people who play using the stats not represented in all aspects of the game SHOULD be punished for not using a different piece of gear because ANet chooses to stand behind other stat combinations?
(edited by Aura.9530)
Sooo; yeah. Still no ascended back item…
Fellow Cleric item users and myself have been wondering this since the release of ascended items into the game. We still to this day, do not have a Cleric ascended, even exotic back item in the entire game. What’s the deal w/ this? You’ve implemented cleric rings (finally) into the game; so why not back items get? As it currently stands, the highest cleric back piece in the entire game is a master craft level (green quality) from one of the Orr personal story quests.
This can be said for a few other stat combinations in the game.
I believe this warrants a “WTF?” Why restrict players from playing their way?

This might be the sexual deviant in me; but I would like a Norn female model with a wider booty…>_> That one Human female model has and enormous bust, thinner waist and bigger booty… Norn women are perfect; but I like the butt.
If precursors were easy to come by everyone would have a legendary. It’s nobody’s fault but yours if you started with the easy parts of the legendary grind and then get discouraged when you don’t want to do the hard parts. Get your world completion, clovers, and precursor first. The rest are the easy parts.
Don’t give me that load about any idiot being able to buy a legendary, if it were so easy to do you and I would have one by now. Thousands of gold to buy a legendary translates into thousands of dollars if you buy gems from Anet. I say if some idiot is willing to spend thousands of real dollars for a stupid legendary, they can have it. That’s a legendary waste of money.
Spot on!
The people complaining about how the legendary isn’t legendary to get are the ones who want it handed to them.Spot on what; you’re probably one of those gold farmers if you honestly agree with the current method. It’s a LEGENDARY item; Since when has FARMING…EVER equated to legendary? Legendary has always, and should always mean it’s difficult to obtain, but still is possible WITHOUT rng. As someone has already said; as it stands now, you could NEVER see a precursor drop if your rng is terrible. This forces you to do what a lot of people do NOT enjoy…farming. You have so save up an estimated 400-600 gold (which ANet has already said was far too high) to buy an item from some one who has better rng; making them not only lucky, but now wealthy.
All I got from this was:
Puppy dog face and tears in the eyes
“Your account is rigged and is luckier than my account. This is so unfair. * sniffly * You’re a gold farmer! * sniffly* How could you go against my thought that legendaries should be handed out? * sniffly, sniffly * How can something possibly be LEGENDARY and not take A LOT of expansive materials to make it so grand?” * Sniffly sniffly *
A whole lot of crying.
It’s not like in real life the grandest swords had any rare materials like gold or jewels on them. Come on, get real. IF legendary armor comes out, that should be expansive too, just as rich knights in the medieval time spent a lot of money on ceremonial armor.
First and foremost… you REALLY like to hear yourself talk, don’t you?
Second; jokes on you for assuming. I haven’t even starting my legendary; because of this exact reason. Let me ask you this then; because apparently you’re all knowing. In what “legendary” weapons lore have you heard of someone having to collects every bit of material; and knowing exactly what to do? Excalibur, Mjolnir, Gungnir, Caladbolg, etc… They are all weapons of mystery and enchantment.
If you only had to farm obsidian shards and ectoplasms; that would be more than fine. The entire weapon shouldn’t be something you, yourself create. It should be located in parts in the world and/or dungeons. Find shards then fuse them with the exctoplasms and the shards in order to repair said weapon.
As it stands now; the entire process of obtaining a legendary weapon is flawed; and you’re out of your mind if you think otherwise.
If precursors were easy to come by everyone would have a legendary. It’s nobody’s fault but yours if you started with the easy parts of the legendary grind and then get discouraged when you don’t want to do the hard parts. Get your world completion, clovers, and precursor first. The rest are the easy parts.

Currently; if you want a decent gaming experience, Mac users have to use the program that runs windows; THEN run the game.
Jigsaw, “Do you want to play a game?”
User, " I can’t."
Jigsaw, “Why not?”
User, " I play on a Mac."
I read another comment, which basically said that obtaining a legendary item should be, well… Legendary. Right now it’s just grind/farm/save your money, not including luck or the mystic forge.
Personally, I would think it’d be pretty amazing if ANet introduced an additional “personal storyline” quest, once you’ve reached level 80 and finished the missions, that you can activate by talking to an NPC, which will lead you on a long chain-event type story to obtain your legendary. To add to its difficulty (in addition to making the actual events difficult), maybe have some prerequisites like world completion, dungeon master, etc (or whatever) so that it isn’t so common. This, I think, would be a lot of fun and I’d do it even if I failed a bunch of times because at least I’m playing a game, not grinding.
And to finish… I don’t understand why these weapons can be sold on the TP, period. It should be account bound.
I actually love this idea; as you said legendary weapons as they are, are just a grind. The only “skill” involved is the amount of free time you have to put toward…farming.
Rift did a wonderful job of putting in a very epic quest line that encompassed the entire game. With many many quests that had you do things both throughout the world AND in instances. Mind you, this didn’t give you a legendary at the end; however it gave you a top tier item that was usually best in slot till the loot table at the final boss of the first tier of raiding.
Heck; another idea would be just to implement some cosmetic gear, or even a precursor to a special vendor that allowed you to purchase things using your infinitely increasing achievement points.
Other than your processor; you’re running very similar build to mine. I have a first gen Intel core 2, quad core processor; and a NVidia GTS 250 graphics card.
About 90% of the time I hover between 15-30 fps; but late at night, when no one’s on I can manage to get up to 50 fps. Mind you, this is on the lowest settings; aside from the resolution, which I have set to native.
Believe me; I wish this set were in the game.
I play a support guardian; and this would be AMAZING!
That being said, it will never happen. Simply because of how (at least my) skills work; I would never die. Toughness is a laughable joke as it is pretty much equivalent to wearing paper armor; therefore this set of stats would be IDEAL. The crit would allow me to give more allies might stacks more often, which would allow me to heal WAY too much. The healing power is at a good place right now on guardians at least, but the extra power would actually allow me to do a good chunk of damage and be an amazing healer.
In short; you’d run into the same issue that ANet had w/ berserker builds before the food buff reduction; and that would be a class that would be able to play by themselves instead of being a functional group member. Hell; I know most people would do most of the content by themselves if they could survive and do damage, without having to rely on PuG groups or simply groups for that matter.
If you truly ‘played a lot’ you would ‘have a lot’. Gold is not difficult to earn in this game.
There should be a separate achievement stat just for skill points acquired not just how many I have on me.
There is. Its called ‘Skillful’. It requires you to have obtained (not spent) 1000 skillpoints over your account lifetime.
I will give you that; it isn’t hard to get. It’s the fact that it’s tedious and time consuming.
Those items are expensive because they are meant to be expensive. If you think those are expensive, try getting a legendary.
You sir are HILARIOUS. Clearly you have just made OP’s point for him. So by GRINDING in excess, you are awarded a “legendary” item. One in which it took NO talent or skill to acquire…just hours and hours and hours of GRINDING.
I’m gonna put this nicely; A. It’s recipe. B. If they implement any other “legendary” items in the same fashion they did the weapons they’re going to have a lot of players quite upset, because it’s a game of who can farm the best/fastest. There’s 0 difficulty in it; it requires time only, no skill.
If you want an interesting idea to create legendary items then they need to reflect difficulty in ALL aspects of the game; the hardest part will be diversifying the ways to obtain them in WvW and every other PVE content, since the general consensus of WvW players rather not set foot in a PvE scenario, and vice versa.
If you want to create ascended armor sets by doing a gold sink; I suppose I wouldn’t be totally against that. However, I’d like to see it be broken down by class AND cultural. Sort of like so: Tier 1 heavy glove+ Tier 2 heavy glove+ Tier 3 heavy glove+ (for the sake of ease) 50 globs of ectoplasm= Ascended class cultural item. There could be an ascended cultural vendor in each of the major cities to reflect such items. This would also “kill two birds with one stone,” seeing as how players would like class based armor sets; AND it would give the Fractal of the Mists fanatics a chance to break the level 50 barrier and beyond with the proper amount of agony resistance.
In short; while I’d like the idea of legendary armor, I would like to see the armor reflect someone’s skill rather than how much time and/or real money you want to sink into the game.

So; ever since the Karka event, or near it, I’ve been getting frequent problems w/ crashing. This happens a minimum of 3-6 times a day, every day. I can and have run the repair .exe (which does NOTHING apparently), re-downloaded the game, defragmented my hard drive and EVERY OTHER help that the NCSoft support team recommends. None of these have helped one bit.
The “ALL KNOWING” NCSoft team first and foremost blames hardware manufacturing companies and your internet service provider. I have proven them wrong in tickets; and they had NO resolution after that, which means they have no idea what is actually going wrong.
I’m leaning toward the actual game itself at this point. It has already been proven that it is NOT optimized and NOT fully coded correctly. This seems to be proven by the fact that ALL of my crashes are due to issues such as: “missing anim ‘x’, could not find ‘x’, cannot un-link ‘x’, missing bone ‘x’, ‘x’ could not be written,” and the like. So I ask; is the game actually corrupting itself because of the incorrect coding and lack of optimization? Or could it be something more apparent that needs addressing; such as, “Are there known/unknown configurations that the game simply will not run correctly on?”

The commando gear shares the same model as the barbaric gear.
I really hope Norn heavy get a set that looks like the T2 cultural medium. Medium wearers seem to get all of the “cool” looking outfits; on top of that, the guards wearing this set aren’t a medium class; so maybe they could swap it w/ one of the heavy outfits; like the T2 heavy; which is mostly made up of leather.
I love the leggings; except that one little tab; it makes it exclusively only able to be matched w/ the T3 chest. Which stinks for anyone trying to do a “Sexy” look. Believe me; there would be so many more options people could choose to match the pants w/, if they didn’t have that silly tab on them.
oh an engineer I take that back
It makes me sad panda to say this; but these armors ARE in fact in the game already. They aren’t heavy armor though; they are medium armor. They are the “Predatory” (Norn Tier 2 medium) armor set. I really wish there were heavy like this though; as nothing w/ a shield can wear medium armor I don’t think.
While I would greatly enjoy this; I don’t feel it will ever come to fruition. I play a support Guardian; if I could pick and choose EVERYTHING I would ever need. My healing and DPS would be through the roof. If an entire party were to be able to do this; people would be complaining more about content being “Too easy.”
Could someone help me out? I’m trying to tell what song the Mesmer portal Entre makes. It’s actually driving me crazy. There is a distorted song that plays when you drop it.
Could a Dev PLEASE help me here?

Online gambling is actually illegal now; hence why you don’t usually see it unless it’s on the hush hush.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/brahams-story/
Sniff just read it will you just read… it… By the Eternal Alchemy norn are weird so weird. Why why would you do that. Seriously norn have strange realtionships
The story doesn’t make me feel any better about Eir having a son tbh. It’s almost like they had someone who’s really bad at writing fan fiction write this. So Eir has a 17 year old son who she just what, forgot about? How many mothers can honestly forget being in labor and having a child.
What the story sounds like, is that Braham’s father gave Eir amnesia and took the child to Cragstead. Meanwhile; in Hoelbrak, NO ONE remembers Eir had a child, even though she is the daughter of a famous hero of the Norn. So apparently EVERYONE has amnesia who ever knew Eir.
At this point; I am seriously hoping this is part of the April fool’s they’re releasing…because this is genuinely making me hate the in-game writing staff as well as one of my mostly beloved characters…
I’m very upset w/ their decision to make him Braham Eirsson… I just finished the current living story quests involving him; but I feel like they should have never existed. It made it seem like his “legendary” father (which there’s 0 lore about ANYWHERE) took him from Eir when he was a baby or at least very young. What has me confused about this, is the fact that Eir acknowledges him as her son. So his father took him to the village in Wayfarer, died, and Braham was raised by villagers/shaman. So Eir KNEW he was there, but chose to not raise him. This seems rather ridiculous; as w/ the lore we have of Eir, she could NOT just leave her child. Look how hard Snaff’s death hit her; she just doesn’t seem capable of that. Which genuinely makes me very very upset as she’s my favorite NPC character; but this makes her seem like an unfit mother, and in general just an overall bad parent.
My main IS a support/healing guardian…They worded it awkwardly; I’m just trying to get some clarification.
Posted in a recent article w/ ANet on GW2 Guru; there was a specific line that I would appreciate a bit of clarification on, if at all possible:
“-Purposely keeping healers out of the game. They want support, but not dedicated healing.”
Some of the major questions that come to mind are:
Is the goal to remove healing power bonuses, or healing in general completely out of the game?
Is this choice going to greatly impact players who have chosen a support/healing build/gear as their primary role?
If healing is removed from the game are people who have chosen cleric, givers, etc., going to be given a refund; or some sort of gear replacement, due to putting time and/or money into this specific gear.
Are defensive stats going to actually mean something in terms of mitigation? (Currently at 3200 armor on my character; still getting hit for 4-5k).
Which classes that currently run support builds is this currently going to affect the most, and how? (Currently my main is a support/healing Guardian; I don’t heal for a ton, but I heal frequently).
