BIRDPUNCHER.8263

Haven’t played my thief in a long time, but I’ve been getting back into it lately and I want to make sure I’m acting as effectively as possible. So there’s a few things I’d love to know:

1) Using a typical meta PvE build, what should you be doing in situations where you can’t flank your target? Sword autoattacks? Dagger autoattacks? Continue using the CnD->Backstab rotation despite the drastically lower backstab damage?

2) Around how much less damage do you put out when using Pistol Whip over Sword #1?

3) Can you flank objects?

1) if you’re fighting 2+ mobs sword auto is your best option, and your second best is Dancing Dagger. If you’re fighting a single mob you’ll want to CnD -> Backstab until 50% and then switch to Heartseeker.

2) it’s variable, due to traits such as First Strikes and Lead Attacks, which reward you for having higher initiative. Under average circumstances it’s only a 1% difference. There’s a thread with some discussion here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Pistol-Whip-DPS-Sword-Autoattack

3) yes.

I like the smoke screen idea a lot, particularly if it were instant cast. It would have the added benefit of helping to protect nearby allies, giving Thief a bit of support in group situations. Resetting or reducing the cooldown of Deception skills is also an interesting idea.

Question:

Are there any plans to retroactively scale the rank points of players who won arena matches before the buffs to points-per-win? I have 2.3 completed Champion title tracks and 341 solo queue wins, but since I did it all while solo queue rewarded ~300 rank points per win I’m only rank 33. By contrast, my guildmate who began queueing a couple months ago has 65 solo wins and is rank 26.

It’s a bit disheartening, and given that the game records your wins I (and I’m sure a lot of other players) would be really happy if it were possible to scale up a person’s rank points to fit the current 1.5k per win reward.

I like the irony of this statement. If they did remove legendaries from the wardrobe, you wouldn’t be losing anything either.

From another thread, but relevant to this one (poster is Token.5098):

To be honest, now they’re making legendaries account bound I don’t get why the skins should be in the wardrobe. It’ll only make everyone have legenadaries everywhere and when I see a legenadary I want to know it is in fact a legendary not a lvl 12 weapon transmuted to look like one. People are gonna be able to swap em around anyway now.

Given that most of the people in here who wanted legendaries available in the wardrobe wanted to use their Twilight or Kudzu on all of their alts, is this satisfactory? I think having the legendaries account-bound but not eligible for the wardrobe would make a lot of sense. Nitpick all you like about whether legendaries are still “prestigious,” but they are still the most difficult and expensive weapons in the game to obtain. It makes sense to me conceptually for legendaries (including all future legendaries) to be exempt from the new skinning system.

BIRDPUNCHER.8263

Hi, I am a dual incinerators owner myself and I came up with an example that might help the opposing view see why some people such as myself feel bumped out by this change.

Suppose there is a Player A and a Player B, both decided to craft two legendaries. Player A crafted a Frostfang for his warrior and an Incinerator for his thief while Player B decided to go for the distinct look of 2 Incinerators on his necro. Both Frostfang and Incinerator cost roughly the same (2,500+gold), both players went through roughly the same amout of effort to procure the legendaries and are happy with the outcome.

Now April 15th arrives – Player A is now able to copy his Frostfang and Incinerators to all his alts and can also have the distinctive look of dual wielding both legendaries. Player B can only duplicate Incinerator to his alts. In this example, the wardrobe change favors players with different legendaries while players with duplicate legendaries are at an “disadvantage”. I saw people argued that people with two Incinerators (Player B ) still have 2 purple rank weapons that allow stat change…but think about this, in my example, player A ALSO have 2 purple rank weapons (Frostfang and Incinerator). So, both players have exactly the same perk in term of the convenience of legendaries BUT Player A now have unlocked TWO legendary skins that he can duplicate as long as he has the charges while Player B only has 1 legendary skin unlocked. Both players have gone through the same efforts and commitment for two legendaries, but Player A have access to 2 distinct skins AND can dual wield (this really defeats Player B’s initial motivation to go for two Incinerators).

At the end:

Player A has 2 purple weapons for stat change (original frostfang and inci) and can now give Frostfang and Incinerator to his warrior, ele, necro, ranger, etc and dual wield in some cases.

Player B also has 2 purple weapons for stat change (2 incis) but can only unlock more Incinerators for his alts.

I fall under Player B and is quite bumped out by this change…If I knew this was the case, I would have crafted a different legendary and unlock that skin for all my alts instead of ending with 2 of the same one…

Best solution would be the one already mentioned: Only allow dual wielding if the account has 2 Incinerators/bolts/quips. If the account only has one, allow duplicating but all the toons cannot dual wield.

I also saw some people giving the analogy of store offering two for the price of one argument. I think in that case, the cost of the item should be considered as well. If I go to the store and saw apples I bought last night is now half price, I would just say “Man, wish I did not get those apples last night” and move on. But imagine me spending $50k on a Lexus and a few months later Lexus announces the car is now half price. I would immediately drive to the dealer with all the other buyers and demand refund/compensation of some sort.

I hope my little example helps shed some light on the disappointment. And if I am wrong, feel free to correct me.

Thanks for reading!

I think that this is a very good post that summarizes how most owners of duplicate legendaries feel . Thank you for making it!

They aren’t useless, you still got the stats and the capability to change. It is not about yours becoming useless but the fact that you don’t want others to get them easier.

This guy gets it. No one is LOSING ANYTHING with these changes, you feel like you are losing something because you think having 2 of the same legendary makes you look “elite” or “special”. It’s also selfishness, because instead of letting people have a new and easier way to get something that was tedious and annoying, you want to keep it the same because you had to go through that.

Wanting a free 2500g skin isn’t selfish, but already having two and wanting compensation or a way to keep that value is selfish. I see.

Down with the 1%, et cetera et cetera. I’m honestly surprised that nobody has compared us to Republicans and free health care yet. d:

There doesn’t have to be a downside. And for the 100th time stat swapping is not worth 2500g it is the skin we bought and now everyone with 1 legendary is being given a extra 2500g skin.

Please stop this. You wouldn’t buy this skin alone for 2,5k. It’s the combination of all the things that make a legendary a legendary. If it really is just a skin, then I suppose Anet could just make them all exotics or ascended, make the skins 100% cosmetic and nobody would complain.
No? Then stop telling those who point out one of the advantages a legendary has to shut up. It’s just as valid an argument as “I put a lot of time and effort into making a second X legendary, I feel cheated”.

Yes, we would. In fact, until August or so of last year, all legendaries had fixed Exotic stats!

As has been stated numerous times, account bound legendaries are not the point of contention. Being able to use the same legendary in both hands, thereby creating the illusion that you have built two when you in fact only built one, is.

And if someone buys 2 Incinerators, should s/he be able to dual-wield them? If s/he builds one Incinerator and buys the other, is it ok then?

The argument you present hinges on the premise that having a Legendary is an achievement that you earn, and that those who have not earned it should not have access to the same look. However, since Legendaries are purchasable on the TP by anyone who pays enough, that premise doesn’t stand.

Since ANet has always allowed the look of a Legendary to be achieved by someone who hasn’t built it, why would they prevent someone who has 1 Legendary the appearance of having 2?

Buy, build, whatever. You knew what I meant: the person in this situation owns two physical legendaries and therefore dual-wields them. Saving up the 2k+ gold required to buy a legendary is also a feat. However, obtaining only one legendary should not allow you to wield two.

The superiority complex coming from the dual incinerator people in this thread is thick.

It’s not a “superiority complex,” it’s the fact that we wanted matching daggers, swords, pistols, what-have-you badly enough that we went out there and we earned ourselves matching Incinerators or Bolts or Quips. On the other hand, the people with a single Incinerator wanted a second one badly enough that they did nothing until news of this change broke, and then refused to understand where the opposition is coming from.

The dual wielding issue is a very easy fix. Just make it so that you have to actually buy two copies of a weapon to actually dual wield it. Problem solved. That’s not unfair to anyone and just common sense.

Best answer so far.

Please stop being disrespectful and just wait for an official update(if any) and not criticize this niche gamer society. We are addressing an issue that seems illogical, we don’t need your comments to flood this thread.

So any opposition to a bad idea is being disrespectful and shouldn’t be in a thread that was changed to being about ALL LEGENDARIES IN THE WARDROBE. This thread is no longer just about people with 2 of the same legendaries.

Nothing has changed except now you can use it MORE. Oh noooooeeeeesss!!!! Pu-lease. I feel the salivation dripping from those just waiting for all their legendaries to get unbound so they can make a killing by selling them.

You are losing nothing. The change costs you nothing. Your argument is invalid in every way.

I think it is more the thought process of: I put all this work into making two of the same legendary for the look, but if I had had the ability to just make one for the look I would have made two different legendaries for 2x the looks instead of 1. So they feel that the effort put into their second legendary is wasted.

I can see being mad about it if they have just recently gotten the 2nd one(like within the last couple weeks), but if they have been able to dual wield them for any length of time, then I say they got their enjoyments worth of it.

Moshari is exactly right. And, sirflamesword, when exactly is the cut-off for being allowed to be upset by the change? I made my second Incinerator ~three months ago and had I known this patch was upcoming I absolutely would have made a Bolt and waited patiently for my free second Incinerator skin.

The majority of players will welcome this change which is all that matters really.

I have a bolt , inci, sunrise and minstrel , working on the juggernaut needless to say i have spent a lot of hrs crafting them so there is no reason i should NOT be able to enjoy them on all my toons , absolutely none.

Not all of us have the time to do 10 map completions just to make duplicates for our different toons ( some of us do have jobs and a life as crazy as that must sound ) so great stuff Anet you’re making 99% of your community happy with this upcoming change.

Your signature is “That one Blue Hair thief with Bolt and Incinerator.” You obviously understand the prestige and work associated with dual wielding legendaries. You chose to make two unique skins, whereas we chose to make two identical ones. Now, because of that choice, we will visually be identical to any single Incinerator thief or elementalist despite putting in twice as much time and effort.

I don’t understand why your tone is so snarky. I have two legendaries: both are Incinerators, and I would like that to remain unique as it is the goal I worked for. You chose to make five unique legendaries. The situation is different.

i don’t care for dual wielding my inci or bolt , all i care about is being able to use my legendaries on all my toons , to be honest legendaries should have been account bound from the get go, they take a lot of work.

I agree that legendaries should be account bound. I don’t agree that people with one one-hander should be able to wield two of them.

That’s an extremely selfish way to see things. You’re seeing it all wrong, think about all you will gain with this patch rather than what you’re loosing. You will be able to wear next legendaries on all your character. You will be able to use dual wielding on another class. Anet is not going to make some special rule, if people arn’t happy they will just remove the Legendaries from wardrobe, making EVERYONE unhappy. (except maybe 2-3 marginals selfish individual)

How is it any more selfish than the players with one Incinerator wanting a free second Incinerator, when we actively chose to pursue and complete our second one because we wanted it that badly? If the legendaries were account bound, we would still be able to use them on any alts we wish. The difference would be that if you have two Incinerators, it is because you built two.

Would you be satisfied if ArenaNet offered compensation? For example unbinding one of your incinerators so you get the option to either resell it or reequip it if you like the stat-change option?

If not, offer a suggestion as to what would make you (or any duplicate legendary owner) happy.

Personally, yes, I think this would be a fair solution. However, I am honestly surprised that they chose to include legendaries in the wardrobe system at all. Making them account-bound but wardrobe-exempt would be perfectly reasonable and allow players to swap them between characters to their hearts’ content, while maintaining the relative scarcity that makes them feel like true prestige items.

The thread might have started like that, but that’s because it left out that the person with 2 of the same legendary still has BiS even if another tier is added later, and switchable stats, while someone with just 1 and skins does not have this. YOU might now have made a 2nd of the same legendary for the BiS and switchable stats, but it doesn’t give you the right to act like EVERYONE with 2 of the same feels that this is unfair.

Similarly, you don’t have the right to talk down to people who value the legendaries for the skins and not the stat swapping. Over and over other players have pointed out that we can still switch the stats on our three thousand gold offhand weapon, and over and over we have answered that we built duplicate legendaries for the cosmetic value and not for “BiS.”

You don’t speak for anyone other than yourself. Stop pretending you do.

Saying he doesn’t speak for the other folks who made dual legendaries is like telling somebody who says “Well nobody likes a drafty house!” that they can’t speak for all homeowners. Sure, there might be the occasional exception, but by and large anybody who made two of the same legendary did it for the skins, not the stats.

I was pointing out that they get the skin for free, sure, but you still have something over someone using an exotic secondary, so it’s not as if you come away with nothing at all.

That’s disingenuous. Can you honestly imagine a person, after these changes, building a second Bolt to wield in his offhand, rather than crafting an ascended sword or two and putting the Bolt skin on them? Calling the stat-changing a worthwhile consolation prize is a bit silly.

OP: You know what’s LESS fair?

Putting all that stuff into your legendary, ALL THAT IT REQUIRES, and having SEVERELY LIMITED usage of it. I have long maintained that if you get a legendary it should be account bound. I still think it should be, but these skins alleviate some of that.

To those that did it twice? You have two legendary quality weapons. That’s still a good thing, because you have those stats x2 instead of one legendary and one exotic. A skin is just a skin; there are no stats.

Nobody’s arguing that a legendary should not be account bound. What we’re saying is that we made a second, identical legendary for the skin, not for the ascended stats or the swapping, and every player with only one legendary now has that second skin that we worked to obtain for free.

Claiming people build second legendaries for the stats and not for the skin is ludicrous — look at back before their stats were swappable, when players would build legendaries and then transmute them onto exotics.

I’m pretty surprised they’re explicitly including legendaries in the skin wardrobe. Making them account-bound but exempt from the wardrobe would make a lot more sense and help keep some exclusivity attached to the skins. Most of the complaints seem to be coming not from people upset over Twilights on alts, but that the time and money spent building a dual-wield legendary has been wasted. Players that chose to pursue a second Bolt or Incinerator are in the minority, sure, but there was a lot of time, work, and money put into building a matching set that is now hardly different from a player with a single legendary and a skinned ascended.

Again I will point this out. The big problem isn’t to have your alt level 2 wield an Eternity, the problem for people who made two dual wield legendaries is that one person who makes ONE incinerator can make it seem like they made two, on the same character, at the same time.

Yeah, I’ll admit to being pretty bummed out that I made a second Incinerator a few months ago and with these changes I essentially flushed away 2500g. Had I known this change was upcoming I’d’ve continued using my ascended Moonshank and made a Bolt rather than Incinerator #2.

If you have a legendary, you have the interchangeable stats. So that is what you worked for. If you only made one and then skinned a ore weapons with the legendary to get the dual wield look then you would only have one with interchangeable stats.

Yes, but, most people who dual-wield matching legendaries did it for the skins, not the stat changing. Saying that the reason we made 2500g weapons was for the changeable stats is disingenuous, when one could make dozens of ascended weapons in different stat combinations at less cost.

New Wardrobe = Screwed?

Sucks most for people with 2 incinerators etc. Always thought that was a dumb idea. Now I get 2 for 1.

No you don’t.

Those people with 2 incinerators get ascended level stats that can be switched out at any time on both weapons.

People skinning a legendary over an exotic do not.

Yeah, but, speaking as one of those people with two Incinerators, I don’t think I’ve ever changed the stats. Besides, if I decided I’d like, say, a carrion dagger instead of berserker, it would be cheaper to craft weaponsmithing 1 – 500 and build a new ascended dagger than it was to get a second legendary.

I’m also curious about this, having two Incinerators on my main. I made the second just two or three months ago and had I known this was in the pipeline I definitely would have made something different.

Suggestions for Guild UI Improvements

These things would all be fantastic, particular 2 and 3. I’d also like to be able to form alliances with other guilds and use an alliance chat tab, a la Guild Wars 1.

Allowing officers to send guild-wide pop-up notifications (similar to the pop-up message for Scarlet’s minions) would be great as well.

Friend's account terminated: "gold selling."

Said friend, “Various Meat Products.4371” would have posted this thread himself but he currently can’t even log into the forums. After playing nearly every day since the game release, he attempted to log into today and found his account blocked for “gold selling.” The only possible reason for this ban is that recently, for my RL birthday, he chose to spend his time and gold to build me a Legendary weapon, and send it to me as a gift. A support ticket has been submitted but as he cannot post on the official forums I’m submitting this thread on his behalf. Please review his case again. He was not “gold selling” in the slightest.

Unfortunately, we’re not going for a Teq kill: just turret defense, which currently doesn’t require a kill to achieve.

Come next Tequatl spawn (around or just after 11 pm EST tonight, the 21st) my guild plans to use a certain overflow to try to gain the Flawless Defense achievement. The more the merrier, so, please feel free to message me for an invite into this overflow for some turret-protecting good times!
