Invalid. I main an ele and find myself in a serious team playing serious people and making my way to the top ranks. And your #2 is invalid as well, I always dissolve thieves. Try running 0/30/0/30/10 fresh air with soothing mist and Condi removal on last trait win zerker or valks amulet. You’ll find yourself to be much more efficient.
Fresh Air (especially with S/F) is very viable in 1v1 but in a groupfight you still pop in a matter of seconds.
Soz, I dunno what you’re running but I’m doing fairly well in tfs as well. And that’s team Que and midhigh ranked solo.

I’m just puzzled we still haven’t had a dev response here.
I didn’t want this to be called compensation before because it feels like a negative way to describe it, but after this story it really does feel like people who used tourneys to legitly gain PvP rank deserve some compensation.
Just did the math and I’d still barely get to rank 50 which would still make me silly compared to some of the sh farmers that took shark in those 3-4 months. Meaning, this wouldn’t be a complete fix considering the farmers but it would help out a lot.
This has no way to have a bad effect on the game in any way what so ever. Compensating loyal and active players with points that do NOT impact the game in ANY way except for bestowing bragging rights can only have a positive effect. Don’t get me even started on how much it would do towards fixing the damage caused by skyhammer farming. Let’s look at it this way. I have around 1,5k tournies played and my current LEGIT rank is 43. The other day, I decided to go FotM to have a lil’ fun with the new stuff and all and at 1 point I wanted to brag somewhat with my tiger. I did /rank (the only thing you can do to brag) and got faceslapped by a PvE’er that pulled a bear on my kitten . I pressumed he was a sPvPer too, a legit one and so I asked him. He said and I quote: “Nah, I just did the sh farm for a month or so, wanted the bear for giggles”. I just stood there for a minute or two, mindblown at how my effort and loyalty meant absolutely nothing and not only that but it actually made me look silly.
I completely agree with you guys on this. At the moment, they’re creating a better situation for all PvP’ers out there and are trying to reward us better, I get that. What I don’t get is why aren’t we, the loyal pvpers that sticked for like 1 year in a broken system, being rewarded for our loyalty and most of all our TIME! The time I invested is bluntly undermined by these changes and literally 66% of it is wasted. Dev post would be cool.

WvW isn’t even PvP and I don’t understand how you people can actually think it is…. You are hitting doors or walls over 90% of the time. It is a giant mob attacking a keep while another giant mob tries to keep the keep. It is a joke.
It doesn’t take much skill to roll a group of 20 when you have 50+.

Because jumping into the pit or pressing 1 aoe button in 8×8 is surely awesome PvP and require mad skill, totally deserving reward in the form of titles and finishers, right?
If this is how you picture sPvP, then you by far don’t deserve finishers belonging to sPvP.
I actually saw yesterday some kind of Bunker/condi/aoe/ thief in solo queue ^^
He was using caltrops, daggerstorm, smokescreen and Leaping Death Blossom.
Dide quite well.
Of course he had not that much sustain like a “real” bunker, but still.But to be honest, when I was fighting him, my thoughts were “So, has PvP rly become so low, that even thiefes are now playing aoe condi spam?”

I’m Vanh, you played against me somedays ago ( the match was on spirit watch). I play S/D thief and we had 2 1vs1 where i killed you in less than 20 secs.
That build is ineffective, i appreciate the effort but bunker thief is not viable ( not the way you play it, at least).
Simple kiting and your main way to heal ( Caltrops) is totally negated.
I would say that thief is barely viable in current meta ( even cheese S/D thief) and we seriously have a problem with current meta builds overall.
Tanky builds deal too much dps, that’s the problem.
Untanky builds have to totally outplay their opponents in order to win ( and the only untanky builds being decent are GS-Staff mesmer and S/D thief).
Current state of game is based on slow TTK and neuts due to too high sustained damage.
Thanks god i’ve very little time to play due to IRL issues, at least i’m not raging.
Untanky build that qualifies in your argument is also a glass fresh-air ele. Higher skillfloor than both you mentioned.
As an ele-only player, I’m not happy with the changes announced. I like that you guys are trying to remove dependancy on arcana traits but I also believe you’re going the wrong way. Evasive arcana is by far the best trait any ele can take for spvp and it’s still there, as a grandmaster trait. So, not going 30 in arcana would mean losing a LOT for the player even if the passive arcana bonuses get shaved. To sum it all up, I like the way you guys were thinking but I believe this will not realise what you intended. It will only destroy D/D completely, it will mostly leave S/D fresh air untouched, it will destroy S/D valks (cuz of the water traits) and it will introduce a clingy condi/bunkerish ele which will most probably suck kitten . The dependancy on arcana will remain, 2 builds will be gone and maybe 1 will be introduced.
This was wierd to me as well. I know people tend to lower their expectations to prevent any disappointments but this is really a big NOTHING. Nothing new added to the game, no rebalancing done? I was thinking maybe they’re saving that info as a suprise but I’m not sure if that’s giving them too much credit. Well, we’ll see soon enough.
Eles were incredibly OP for a while, but seem to have gone out of fashion now that it is actually possible to kill them. I also think it is slightly more difficult to play an ele well, but like you say, the good players shine.
See, I’ve been an ele for like 7 months or something, strictly spvp. I’ve never thought about changing the class or quitting but truth be told, eles are in a sad state indeed. Only having 30 trait points for a build (10 in water and 30 in arcana are basically mandatory) makes an ele experience in spvp terrible. You can either go “tanky with decent damage” or “full burst”. You go try that and you’ll see how neither of those builds are viable in any way. Tanky builds are just that, tanky and not even really successful at that with no damage on them what so ever. Burst builds have a decent burst, I’ll give you that, but considering eles armor and health, you’ll probably die of a random AoE that wasn’t even headed for you. Specially when you consider the current condi/cc meta, eles are currently outclassed by everything else in the game. At least this is my experience after playing over 1,200 tournies as an ele.
I played a solo game last night, and fought on a point against like a rank 30-35 necro. I outplayed and dodged every big card he has, kited around almost all the dangerous stuff he can throw at me and while landing all I have, he just went spectral armor, feared me and melted me with condies since their CD just ended. Then he /danced and said free farm. This doesn’t happen that seldom. Many meta builds destroy ANY ele build you bring at them, with absolutely no skill.

It was an RNG reward during halloween.
See, I feel your anguish. From the first day of the patch, after reading about the PvP version of the new gloves and finding out they drop from the tournie chest, I played tournies only, every day. Got both heavy and the medium ones and that’s all, yay (I’m ele only). And now we’re left with squat, like we didn’t even log in. RNG must be removed from such crucial rewards. I get that they want to make us play and to keep us motivated but adding RNG, like you said yourself, as an only source of the given reward is insanity. Would like to see this fixed.
Seriously, the ladder system could use a degradation of rating over time. Also, why don’t they reveal the rating formula and implement it as a stat in-game? It feels like a chore to keep minimizing and checking if the ladder has been updated.
Definitely needs more range and less AoE. :/
