My dream list of fixes/additions for HoT
-Real leaderboards, this is essential if arenanet hopes for a turnaround for where the competitive scene is headed
-Ranked Solo Queue
-Rewards for PvPing (not llamas or RNG farm chests)
-Better/increased titles, 500, 1000 win titles like “Legendary Genius” or w/e
-A separate queue for Stronghold
-Ability to queue from anywhere again, seriously, being stuck in HotM sucks.
-Add a dueling mode, or a dueling arena to HotM (stick it where the lake used to be, people would love it)Class changes:
Ranger: Make pet attacks all commands by Ranger, add a few new pet families for the expansion based around animals from the new zone
Warrior: Real Melee builds for Warrior, allow Warrior to stop having to take longbow + CI
Thief: Non-Steal based builds for thief, seriously, the entire profession revolves around hitting a single instant skill that does like 10 things at once
Necromancer: Real sustain from Blood magic (they are working on this finally!), improved Minion AI
Balance changes:
-Make flat passive sigils worth taking for at least a few classes
-Reduce no-counterplay sigils like Air/Fire/Blood, they dramatically lower the need to play well
-Give on-swap sigils a short windup time after swapping
+1 for everything; you just forgot to mention leaders made from divisions and leagues (those are really fun and engaging). Also, they should seriously stop pushing Elementalists as freaking monks! Every single meta build we had was a support/healer type and when I made my ele on release I was hoping to play something similar to GW1 ele. A squishy target with a lot of range that absolutely destroys everything if not pressured.
Not everyone should be allowed to post on these forums. First of all, the whole point of adding a new game mode is to attract new players that weren’t that into conquest. That being said, a LOT of players found it extremely complicated with a steep learning curve and just backed off. Putting Stronghold in a separate que will solve this. That’s the whole point, to make a game mode that is easier to get into and more fun in general. Mixing it up with a game mode that requires a LOT of knowledge and rotating skills will only turn players away. Also, the queue times are just silly baseless speculations. PvP is being less and less played (been playing pvp only for almost 3 years now) and I still have no problems with queues – average wait time is 2-5mins. Separating queues might result in longer queues by logic but it will be in shadows of the hype caused by the ENTIRE expansion filled with overhauls and balance changes and tons of new options (elite specs, new weps etc).
GW1 had different queues for each mode packed in it. RA had it’s own outpost, TA (before shut-down), HA, HB, GVG. You pick a mode by flavor and not by RNG.
You’re complaining that there are more premades?? Oh lord save this community! We’re supposed to ENCOURAGE party play. Sheesh how else is this supposed to get more competitive.
Wahaha, I was looking for a comment such as this one! I mean, now we’re complaining that people are actually being smart and playing together! Hahahaha, silly community
Been playing since launch, 90% of the time in pvp – still having fun.
The only issues I see as game-breaking are these two: Leagues and divisions implemented inside the kitten game (not a separate website – feels insanely cheesy) – promised like a YEAR ago and the reason BLU left the entire PvP scene and game altogether; second is – stronghold in a same que as conquest (we want to feel like stronghold is a new game mode, not just another map which it isn’t!) – requires an entirely different setup, not only build-wise but class-wise. If these two are screwed, I’ll probably leave the game.
I’ve been speculating lately is meta effective at all. Many solid builds with huge potential are rendered out of it only because they’re looked upon as individual builds and how they implement in the current meta. What if the entire team setup changes? We have powerful lich necroes, power rangers, fresh air elementalists, very interesting warrior builds (not shoutbow of course), shatter mesmers being played in ranked but none of those are considered for competitive play only because they don’t implement in the already set up team composition. Let’s change the composition then? It feels more and more ineffective. A good example would be Helseth where he runs his shatter mesmer perfectly and still manages to pull it off. Every single team, new or old, keeps running the same kitten over and over again. Where’s the creativity from GW1? People keep comparing devs work GW1 and GW2 wise but I don’t see the community from GW1. People always pushed for different builds in GW1, without doing all the kitten math on what is more effective in numbers.
You got the reason for these builds not being used wrong. I would argue no one runs power necros, especially on NA there are a few of them. Then again teams on EU run more mesmers. Fresh air ele is not used in tournaments and team compositions because it’s just not that good. If fresh air ele is out of cooldown, it’s basically dead and those cooldowns are very long, therefore the ele can’t keep up with thieves and also mesmers. People have tried to make it viable, but I don’t really think it can be. It’s just too easy to focus once out of cooldowns and doesn’t bring as much utility to team as thieves for example. It has no boon hate, no stealth, no insane mobility. The same goes for rangers along with being too easy and I suppose quite boring too just from the nature of the spec. Why would you take power ranger over a thief, eventually mesmer?
It’s not like people haven’t tried to make certain specs viable, but sometimes it’s just not possible and you get outcomped rather than outplayed. Then the teams go back to pick up their meta builds, that’s why it’s meta.
Thank you for putting your thought in but I could argue a few facts myself. It’s true that a fresh air ele is a dead body once out of cooldowns and it sure looks like that when not played right. Though after playing more than 3k games on fresh air alone (ranked of course, and a lot of those in full team premades) I can tell you that with enough skill, this fact shifts around a lot. Even without all my cooldowns, outplaying is more than possible and that’s once you are out of cooldowns. And I rarely am. It’s about using your cooldowns optimally, and that’s the nature of an elementalist. When used optimally, (in theory) you can’t run out of them since one complements another. Anyways, the problem with these builds is that they require a LOT more skill and practice than the current meta and the results are these assumptions such as yours.

Yeah, everyone agrees that the game hasn’t been this balanced since release. Even though we have no game-breaking OP god-builds we had in the past, it still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shift things around a bit. And I’m sure no one wants you to nerf what is currently used since none of it is overpowered, just introduce new things so people can add even more viable builds to the game. You managed that in GW1, I recall there were at least 5-7 meta TEAM builds at the same moment! And all had their strengths and weaknesses which made the game fun!
Where did you dig dis up?
Let’s bring back the decap engi, the spiritrangers (in their full past strength), stunlock, and the (since-release nerfed) heartseeker OP nuke damage. That will make the game more fun! 15k heartseekers, immortal engies, AI zoofest and forever stunned impressions! Yaaay!
There are many people questioning build diversity ever since the (in)famous Ready Up streaming showcasing the new traits. It can only get better from here as there is no diversity what so ever. Every class has 1-2 meta builds that everyone copy/pastes around (even the highest of tiered players). And that’s common sense as there’s an optimal way to spread points now. First issue is due to passive stat bonuses from traits, second issue is the abundance of useless traits, third issue is the unneeded complexity of the current system. There will still be a meta (there always will be), but my guess is that people might actually try different variations of those meta builds more often.
My assumption as well, MadVisions.4529. Wasted 6 initiative can be a game-breaker in higher levels of PvP. This should be fixed as soon as possible, it’s a tiny bug that can cause quite a frustration (happened to me numerous times).
In no way should this be considered clever gameplay as you are evading warning prompts of the enemy team. Gates are there as time-gated opportunities for the enemy team to actually react to a possible lord rush.
Hey trix, haven’t seen you in a while. I get your frustration on lightning flash but blink on mes shouldn’t have as many issues. Although, I’m playing my thief very actively lately, so I might not be up to date. I’m seeing some issues with the new port system myself, specially with infiltrator’s arrow. There are even some more odd examples of this. Sometimes, infiltrator’s arrow will fire and then report no valid path on a completely flat surface (no ledges involved). This should be looked into.
Yeah, that’s right. It’s a well-known bug but sadly, ANet hasn’t commented on it yet (as far as I know). My opinion is that it’s an exploit (which it obviously is) but we can’t know for sure until ANet says something. It’s never certain with them if it’s a bug or is it “working as intended”.
I didn't want to say it but(post spec stream)

I’m not sure how can anyone see this as lack of diversity. I mean, anyone who is trying to actually be useful and optimal in this game sees this game has NO diversity right now. Every serious PvE guild has meta builds expected for every class and there are also many PvP guilds that DEMAND that everyone runs meta for their profession. Every warrior I see joining my parties for PvE is either deeps or Phalanx, every ele is staff or d/f, every thief is S/P and D/D, and there are some professions that are completely excluded from a lot of content. I see people kicking rangers just because they’re playing rangers (PvE-wise), I see people kicking mesmers from fractals because they have nothing to offer. This game is everything now but filled with diversity considering builds. Every thief I see in PvP is either S/D or D/P. Every mesmer is either halting strike shatter or traditional, every guard is either bunker or Medi, every warrior is shoutbow. And if you disagree, you’re probably in a lot more of a casual circle of playing. This game has NO diversity right now and changes as huge as we’ve seen on the stream can only bring positive impact on the game. Wow…
If they put Stronghold in a same queue with Skylamer and Spirit Watch, I will probably retire. And that’s coming from an avid pvper with 5k games, playing since release (as much as possible, during college). I mean, I like conquest and everything, I really do. I enjoy its’ mechanics and it really is a challenge. But I want an option where I pick between stronghold and conquest. I don’t want RNG where I have to adapt an entire build in that 1 minute. I want to relax before the game starts. And even if they add templates, I still want to be able to pick between the 2 modes. I also liked HA and RA while I slept in GW1 PvP but I never wanted it to be random. If I felt like playing HA, I queued/grouped for HA; If I felt like playing RA I queued for RA – simple. Please don’t take this from us, ANet, when you finally deliver on this long overdue game mode.
It’s actually a bit of a different story. Balance is now at its’ peak ever since the release of GW2. It had many downs (balance-wise) and even though it isn’t perfect now, it is in a really good spot. I believe they will get the hang of things even with the new specialization and the new class. They had the hang of things in GW1 even though each expansion introduced two new classes.
That being said, I’m certain many will be pessimistic as Nova Striker.8396 solely because of the numerous failed attempts (which is justified and understandable).
So it isn’t just me having a degenerative brain disease or my bad luck? Every game I get in, I play (from my point of view) very well, I kill almost everything I engage and I die once or not at all (I’m a thief). Despite defending close and maintaining mid all game, we somehow lose. People aren’t bad, they’re just matched with a whole other part of the pvp community. I get starters in my team, like r10 or 20 while their team gets a coordinated bunch of people that are often from competitive guilds and teams.
An hour prior to me typing this message, I had an ele that keeps rushing far and dying to a turret engi after each won mid fight. So, we have close intact, we go mid and win a teamfight. Then he waits around a bit, like he’s syncing with their spawn, and when he decides their about to spawn, he leaves close and rushes far. They realize this (every time, obviously) and let him suicide on turret engi whilst they get close. He did this every time we actually get back on our feet and stabilize mid and close.
I’ve finished 2 fractals before this last reset and received both reward chests. This shouldn’t be a global issue.
Yeah, that sounds about right. My laptop (not gaming) with an i5-4200U and 740M geforce racks up 40s of FPS on high settings.
I was once a QQer like the OP, but this is really just a blow-out of a post. You can’t judge a new game mode just because it SEEMS complex! GvG felt really complex in GW1 and yet it was the most successful game mode of its time. And also, it was pretty easy to get a hold of since the complexity was divided on multiple roles (as it seems here as well).
I’m guessing both. That’s what a full-fledged game mode should be like. And it (obviously) reminds us all of GvG, which was played solely for rated competing.
I would come back in an instant if they added a new game mode. Still lurking these forums with no luck. Heartbreaking to see all this potential wasted, meh…
I actually had to log in and post on these forums once again just for the sake of this new guy. There is no worse place to ask for a PvP status than these forums. They’re crowded with elitist people that believe they know every single detail of this game and all they say is how this game lacks depth, or is a spam fest or stale or what not. Take it from me, I’ve been semi competitive for over a year now, and when I’m not I still participate in soloques daily. There is NO better PvP at the moment than GW2 PvP. I do agree that we could SURELY use more content and the balance could be quicker but it is still fun and more than enjoyable for me after all these games (should be higher than 5k tournies on both accs).
And the trolls that so solemnly believe this game requires no skill, or that it lacks depth should only look at the top tier winners of tournies. If the game really was all that, then winners would always be random since there is no skill requires and it is a spam fest. Yet there is a group of 2-3 teams that CONSTANTLY dominates everyone else. Logic.
EDIT: Oh, and almost all mind-equipped high ranked players usually avoid forums since it is the SOLE source of toxicity in this game. You will find no valid opinion here, just frustrated players that saw from other qq’ers that it’s cool to blame it on the game.

Ok, so I’ve been at gw2 pvp for almost a year and a half now. I’ve never had any issues with the game itself and its performance. That being said, the last few days maybe even weeks, I’ve been experiencing ENORMOUS lag spikes and instabilities. I’ve checked my connection as I’m referring to latency lag (package loss) and NOT FPS lag, just to be clear. I’ve also tried some other games I had installed from long ago, NONE of them lagged. I have like 30ms latency in all games and I’m guessing in GW2 too. The ping, when not spiking is around 50ish or so but once it starts spiking, I start getting rubberband and it reminds more of reading a comic than playing a game. Earlier today it went so far that I actually FELL off a cliff in skyhammer, considering server-side. The result was, me dropping dead while trying to finish a downed foe. Is this a common issue or something with my provider? I’ve seen others complain as well.
It’s like a whine magnet. I cannot comprehend how can people find SO MANY “FLAWS” with this new patch. Personally, I’m a rank 70 now elementalist with around 2,5k tournies played on it. I’m not the most hardcore PvP-er out there but I consider myself no joke either. What I can’t get is how many people in-game are currently enjoying the new changes and trying out new builds and classes while the forums are LEAKING with negativity and kitten like that. Please understand that the PvP is in THE best place it has ever been right now and I (as a non-fanboy or gemcasher) am loving it. I’m playing like 2 or 3 times more a day now and I just can’t get enough of it. Sure there are some problems and issues but there always will be in a game huge as this one.
Also, to all those naysayers, elementalist is in the most balanced spot since the release.
I love the work you did with this patch, ANet, and I mean it sincere since I was a ranter/hater for a year before it.
I’ll go ahead and lock this thread ™
Wow This Got Long—What About PvP?
The addition of custom arenas, rated play, leaderboards, and spectator mode have already been big steps for Guild Wars 2 PvP in 2013. Going forward, we’ll continue to work with and support the rapidly growing competitive PvP community with our eyes towards an extremely exciting future as we work towards solidifying the base. We know we have a lot of work to do to continue that momentum and ensure our PvP experience is everything we ever wanted it to be, so what are some of the things we have coming to get there?
The major focus of the PvP team for the second half of the year will be tied to improving the sense of reward in PvP. In the spirit of the high-level strategy listed above for PvE/WvW rewards that ensure players feel rewarded for their time, we’ll need to build systems that achieve the same goals in PvP. Our PvP team will go into more details on these systems once they are further along.
The addition of new skills and traits on a regular basis will of course mean expanded variety of abilities, builds, and tactics in PvP as well. As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP just like all existing skills/traits work today
We’ll also expand the competitive options for game play: providing a queue and leaderboards for solo rated play separate from team rated play, adding new map types, adding the ability to gain legendary weapon skins in PvP, providing additional rewards; and growth to our major competitive PvP tournaments, hosting our own Year One PvP Championship at PAX, and more!
And I should be just dandy and happy when we haven’t gotten a single update in 3 months. Sure.
When we whine about PvE getting all the attention and PvP getting left behind, they say that those are separate teams and that we should be patient. I’m not ignoring the fact, I’m just saying that they manipulate their community so we stay put and quiet. Which is actually effective, as I can see.
They’re literally separating the 2 modes when it goes in their favor but when it doesn’t, the PvP team takes a break from creating living story.
Did they say they have separate teams for PvE and PvP? Why should the PvP team have a break from PvE releases?
They DID say that AFTER the living story season one was finished (which is on 4th of march) there will be a BIG feature patch that will have everything they’ve promised. So you’re telling me since they didn’t give an exact date I should understand it like this: After 4th of march could mean even the december of 2014?
I honestly can’t even begin to express myself right now. Every single tip and hint ANet gave us indicated that we’ll be getting the most anticipated mysterious feature patch on 18th of march (after the living story ended, which is 4th of march). Now, right out of the blue, they feed us this kitten about 18th of march being only a QUOTE maintainance patch UNQOUTE. I mean I’ve had patiance, I’ve waited like everyone else, never really expected a rushed and low quality patch but I’m fed up with this “WHEN IT’S READY” bullkitten. I’ve did the entire most recent living story content, to get that sick backpack and stuff so I could carry it over to PvP and gave soloq and teamq a break and now this!?
Are you people expecting us to get our gear up and farm so our grandchildren could wear the same in new modes of PvP? I mean this is an outrage, complete lack of responsibility and professionalism. I, like many others, am a big and long since loyal fan of GW generally and I’ve always avoided these forum QQs but enough is enough.
I doubt we’ll get lucky with the spinal blades. Anet likes postponing the most wanted of updates and I’m getting a feeling they’ll be an update late and pvpers will be left out again.
Now this I’d like to see.
I want to see “Legendary ________” for wins while in the top ~500 or so of leaderboards, probably just team arena. Champ means nothing but that you have played a lot.
Now on this topic I’d say it’s still just a wish. For a title based on high ranked games you need to actually have a decent and working rating system which GW2 lacks. I think it would be best if they first introduced a decent rating system with those leagues they talked about and THEN they should introduce titles based on it.
Should be like total achieved score. For example, in your case their team scored a lot more in total than yours. I think that was the tie breaker.
True, stomping and ressing is crucial in PvP, they really should add more rewards to motivate players to do so.
GW has the potential in every aspect. The problem with watching is easily solved by a high quality observe system, not the joke we have now. Everything else I easily solved by balancing and overhauling but the only problem that seriously cripples gw from becoming an esport is the lack of attention and development.
Hmmm interesting.
Haha, interesting indeed.
I really feel players are investing more time per person in analyzing the game and redesinging flawed systems than the actual developers. This is very sad.
And respectively, you will also win 14 of those matches due to 5v4.
Like I said, it amplifies the luck factor. How much will your case derive from the average. Getting more freebies or getting more 4v5s
You can only convert specific skins BEFORE you use them for PvE gear. Stuff like gem armors, gem skins and similar. Everything else is now bought for glory + gold and there is no way around it if you are new.
Lag across the board has become very terrible recently.
Been getting hit while in dodge animation (after endurance has been burned) etc. Its really weird.
WvW is also in an absolutely unplayable state in terms of lag.
Anet needs to get their kitten together.
Exactly, I forgot to mention that my endurance bar was burned while I was in a dodge animation. It’s mindboggling.
I’d understand if they didn’t want this if it was something new and all. But they did the EXACT same thing for WvW when ranking got revamped, why can’t they do it for us too? Are we a lower-class or something? I see absolutely no reason why this thread is still being ignored.
I’ve noticed this as well. Saw it happen on dodges as well. Getting ES’ed while in a dodge animation, that was fun.
Almost 5 days and 3 pages later and still no dev response. This is a sad day for gw2 pvpers.
This must mean that Skyhammer farming was the right way to play the game!
Atleast we know how to respond to exploits now I guess. Abuse the kitten out of them, of course
