Hi guys, I was going over this link: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition_damage
Which is the “Condition Damage” Wiki page – and I couldn’t help seeing the difference in “Burning Damage” and everything else. It does so much more damage than all the rest of the conditions.
Bleeding 0.05 42.5 per stack per second +5 per stack per second
Burning 0.25 328 per second +25 per second
Poison 0.10 84 per second +10 per second
Confusion1 0.15 130 per stack per skill use +15 per stack per skill use
Fear2 0.30 362 per second +30 per second
Torment3 0.11 32 per stack per second +11 per stack per second
Actual damage per second/attack per stack = Base Damage + (Factor * Condition Damage)
^ Confusion deals half damage in Structured PvP and WvW.
^ Only causes damage under the effects of Terror (the IX necromancer trait under Curses).
^ Deals two damage packets per second while moving.
Not only is it’s damage really high, it’s factor is the highest (apart for necro fear w/ curses).
Is there something I’m missing or is it just really way stronger than the others?
Even with 25 Bleed stacks it would only do half the damage that Burning does at base damage.
What am I missing?
I know, I know, I know…..
But,
What is the best way\build to play\for a ranger in these settings?
If you had to play one.
How would you be going about doing this?
Like Eric said above, it’s not that it isn’t viable. It’s just not probable, because you will get 1 out of 5 interrupts and after traiting toward it you lose everything else. You can’t even hybrid it well, except maybe confusion, which would render it useless anyway.
But I agree, we have a vast amount of interrupts and even the class psychology is veered in the way of stopping people in their tracks by using unconventional means.
It sounds extremely interesting, but way OP.
Mesmers have a unique skill – Shattering.
If we also get a “Companion” based skill set with such a high skill cap – played right would be indestructible.
Also, ANet does not see mesmers as a “controlling beings” profession , but rather a deceptive, kitten with your mind type of profession.
And imagine the screams the other professions will let out if we get this type of buff….
Maybe in the extremely far away future…. but even then I wouldn’t count on it.
I’ve seen this weapon set mostly in support builds.
Is it viable in a Glass Cannon Burst spec?
if you want to melee pick thief if you want more ranged fighting pick mesmer. I think thief is a better class at noob to mid skill level, mesmer is better at mid to high skill level and thief is better at the very top end. I have both and ended up with mesmer because I don’t like melee play style.
I don’t agree with this, I play melee on my mesmer.
OT
I had the same problem, in the end I went with the mesmer because its kittening awesome.
- very old video but nonetheless what i meant
You sure it wasn’t Sword/X + Y/Sword?
Yes, I’ll look for a similar build and post it here
Does this have an advantage in any way?
Because the cooldowns don’t reset when you swap weapon sets.
Example: You use the #2 on sword\pistol and then swap to sword\sword, the #2 is still on cool down.
I’ve seen a lot of builds utilizing some sort of double set swords and couldn’t understand why. Is it the AutoAttack?
YES.
This is what we need.
I support this.
Off topic:
Just realized you can’t 10char here.
Almost every profession has a build that will let him get around the map quickly, 25% speed bonuses and such.
Mesmer is supposed to be a “decoy” or “illusion” class, and part of a deception has to be mobility. Making a clone, and then running back to hide, teleporting etc. The class in itself is supposed to be mobile.
It’s only logical that mesmers should have something like that.
Do dodge clones appear even when there is no enemy in the vicinity?
If they do, how long do they last?
I was playing around with the build editor today at work and tried to come up with a good skirmishing\ roaming\ scouting build for WvW.
You have a few roles as a skirmisher:
• To get in with your organized group, work together to bring down enemies fast, leave, repeat. Organized groups work much better together than zergs, as they are unorganized. What this means is that even when the odds are not in your favor, a top tier small squad can take out a group many times its own size.
• Making tactical decisions that help your world (capturing camps, towers and such) or your zerg (i.e. Your zerg is trying to take a tower, and the enemy is focused on the front gates because the whole zerg is there, your squad can teleport in and attack from behind, or even go for the lord.)
• Scouting ahead for your zerg, helping decide what routes to take and what camps, towers, or keeps to try and take.
• Taking up tactical positioning (i.e. between an enemy way point and the enemy group.)
What I aimed for:
• Extremely high mobility, both in combat and out of:
This is for roaming, of course. The need to get in and out of tough situations as well as high in combat mobility for survivability (you are wearing full zerkers), as well as a mobility oriented play style. As you can see this has consequence, food for boon duration, traited focus 20% reduced recharge rate, 10% movment for each clone etc. Zerker gear helps with the damage and crit but as you can see, centaur runes and air runes for that perm swiftness you will need in a small manned team. Also Focus skill #4 has a great effect, being able to pull in enemies. Added blink and teleport for quick takedowns and escapes before enemy notices.
• Zerg breaking options:
Let’s face it, even low tier servers have way too many zergs running around, and if you happen to get caught in an enemy zerg while deep in enemy territory you’re going to have to start way back at your way point. For this reason, I added a greatsword to this build as the #5 skill can be very useful for knocking back enemies and fleeing. I also juggled the idea of a staff as a retreat weapon but decided to go with the greatsword because skirmishing is a mobility and burst spec, and greatsword has more of that than the staff.
• Relatively high damage and burst:
This is a must for skirmishing. Unfortunately this build has little of high damage, but with pretty high crit% and crit damage. You wil do much less damage than your typical glass cannon, as mobility comes with a cost. Still, you aren’t the worst off, and will be able to handle yourself pretty well in xvs1 situations as you are very mobile, dodgy, and… well you’re a Mesmer, the point is to trick people.
• Basic defensive survivability:
This is why I put 10 in the chaos line (10% boon duration too). The regen at 75% and chaos on falling dmg are really good traits for wvw.
This build was made to be very mobile while having a decent damage output. This is meant to be good in small teams, usually 5 or 6 at the very most.
This is pretty much my first build, go easy on me.
Best mesmer support build I’ve seen.
Yeah, just thought it would be fun build to run in wvw, just because of the scouting\ skirmishing ability that this can have.
Plus, it seems to have a pretty high crit rate, which is surprising for a build like this. I equipped it with full zerkers for dmg and crit and interestingly enough, it isn’t that bad in comparison with what I thought it would be.
I was playing with the trait lines a bit, and came up with a complete perma swiftness build.

Of course now you can switch up the traits because you dont need the speed boost while having illusions up
Tried to make a mobility based build for mesmers, just for fun, so please dont hate comment – you will do no damage, you dont have anything else, yeah yeah. I know. This is just a fun, running around build. If you ever found yourself trying to keep up with everyone? This is the way for you! haha.
It gives you around 18.75 secends of mobility, with a cooldown of 20 secs.
So for the last second, just dodge twice to get that 20% speed boost, and right after open with 4 focus.
Also added a chance on crit for vigor to add mobility.
LIKE I SAID
This is for fun roaming and running away for all you people that really like the mesmers and hate the mobility.
