All I want is ONE new dungeon

Make it really challenging, have great rewards, and new prestigious armor and weapons.

In other world : create exclusive content and skins only for 2-5% of the playerbase.

No thanks. Better spent your development ressources for stuff for the other 95%.

So basically, better instead to create cash-shop skins and stuff for the other 2-5% of the playerbase that actually spends money on the game… wait, what? (percentages an exaggeration)

The gemstore offers mini pets and other items that cannot be collected any other way unless you buy gems or trade in for gold. This means these minipets/armors are inaccessible for the majority of folks.

How is something available via gems inaccessible? Oh, for the people who never get any gold in game? Who are these people, exactly? Hate all you want on the gem store, but don’t use the word inaccessible, as it’s not in the least accurate.

I’m sure players would rather utilize skill to do something exciting, rather than waste time to do something boring.

Most of that gold is obtained by either farming the Trading Post, or—you guessed it—doing dungeons. And what would giving us new and exciting dungeons accomplish? I’ll let you put 2 and 2 together.

2 Handed Axe and Mace?

The only new weapon type that would make sense at this point are Scythes, since they’ve actually seen action in GW before.

2H Axes and Maces are pretty redundant, since we already have Hammers which are 2H maces, essentially, and what would really make a 2H Axe all that different from a greatsword? They’ve no history in GW to go by, and Hammers already fill the “Slow, powerful attacks” niche.

When you’re asking for a new profession, you have a duty to present proper reasoning why you think that profession would be a good fit for the current game.

Bringing classes from a previous installment is not a good enough reason. After all, most sequels to RPGs do not bring all of their professions over. And adding a new profession because of a weapon they used doesn’t make sense in Guild Wars 2, where every profession can use multiple weapons.

If you want to add a new profession to Guild Wars 2, you need to make it a profession that has a meaning. The mechanics of the profession have to be something that is not already covered by one or more professions in the game. Adding a profession that is basically a frankensteinian monster of the current professions wouldn’t make much sense. Remember that most of the balance in the game is centered around a full party rather than a solo player.

So tell me:

  1. What could a Dervish bring to the game that the current professions do not already cover?
  2. What could a Dervish bring to the game that the current professions could not bring via adding scythes to the game?
  3. What makes a Dervish a better fit than any other profession from Guild Wars 1?
  4. How would you explain the Dervish profession in the lore of each of the races?

1. Enchantment Tetris. Nothing like it found in any other class. Added depth and uniqueness. That, and people just find them bada**. As a result, they’d be a nice moneymaker for Anet.

2. This is a discussion about a Profession, not a weapon. That’s an entirely different discussion; but if you want my input: having Dervishes would give them a good reason to bring scythes back (a weapon type many have been clamoring for due to its, once again, “bada**ery”). I had more reasonably originally though to simply bring scythes back as a unique weapon type that (currently) only warriors and necromancers could use. More weapon skills, just as a dagger differentiates from a sword, and an axe from a mace. Why scythes specifically? Because they are, to date, the only weapon type that didn’t make the transition from GW1 to GW2 (unless you count spears [instead of javelins] being underwater only).
Not asking for a new weapon type, rather closure/completion.

3. A Dervish fits better than any other profession except Ritualist, because Paragon has been mostly phased into Guardian (stated by Anet), and the Assassin is the Thief.
I could see Ritualist coming back under a new name (i.e. “Shaman”) with a somewhat different functionality the same way the Assassin did under Thief. If you want to use the (flawed) argument that “The Engineer basically is the Ritualist”, then Dervish is an even greater fit, the only one.

4. Read my post above, I already explained it. None of the professions are already explained in their racial lore to begin with. Irrelevant.

why the removal of energy was a poor choice

in PvP

What a bunch of elitist hogwash. Some of you still don’t seem to understand why this game has such a tiny pvp base. Its not because it caters too much to casuals that’s for sure.

Alright, let’s go over some of the talk that happens:

“maybe we should make pvp have different skills, since there are some problems stemming from how powerful they are”

“yeah…we’re considering that, but we aren’t too keen on doing it because pvers would have to read their skills for a second time.”

Every time some kind of overhaul of skills or traits is suggested anet talks about how those changes would impact the experience of every other player in the game in pve and wvw and so we’re left with not so many changes.

Next time you want to bring up elitist hogwash, maybe you should reconsider exactly what’s going on around you.

In GW1, some skills were changed for PvP, in an effort to balance them, which was largely accepted and understood as necessary. Not only that, there were also unique PvE-only skills. All this in addition to the energy system. Keeping certain skills separate was just part of the game.
But I just ended up highlighting GW1’s superiority in terms of depth and build diversity again. No surprise there.

Actually, the Dervish can come back just as it is.
The “We can’t have Dervishes because of ____ race!” argument is invalid. Why?
In GW1 there were Mantid dervishes. Do bugs worship the gods? No.
Redhand Simians. Do monkeys worship the gods? No.
Ferrothax. Do dinosaurs worship the gods? No.

This was done so that, mechanically, you could fight against dervishes in mixed teams. And, mechanically, we should be able to play as a Dervish no matter what our race is.
You already practically never see your class come up within your personal story, if at all, so it conflicts with nothing.
