Honestly I think it should be the other way around. EB should be the endgame after you’ve conquered the three borderlands. Perhaps restrict travel as follows:
Home Borderlands: Always open.
Foreign Borderlands: Must control the keep on that color’s side in at least one Borderland, or control StoneMist.
Eternal Battlegrounds: Must hold at least one Garrison.
This way servers are encouraged to defend their home borderlands first, since it will be easiest to hold the Garrison there.
Covenant, would it be ok if ANet just restricted server transfers to once per week or locked them out during the second half of WvW matchups?
The PvE content has to stay in WvW or else players on a dominant server will have nothing to do once all the points are capped, i.e. they get punished gameplay-wise for winning.
Out of morbid curiousity, does anybody happen to know what the maximum WvW reward buffs would be after 2 weeks straight holding every point in every borderland?
Blackgate is pretty good in this department, but we’re getting roflstomped by Crystal Desert at the moment, and morale is pretty low as a result.
Bdsteelers: as I’ve edited to clarify, I don’t mean to add any notifications in WvW, and even if a post did go out to players in PvE/PvP about a supply camp being capped (which is not what I’m suggesting), the response time would still be too great to affect covert missions like that, since any PvE/PvP players would still have to zone into WvW and travel from home base anyway. The potential strategy of leaving someone in PvE to notify guildies already in WvW would also be no more effective than just having a designated WvW player checking his map every 10 seconds and reporting on the crossed-swords that pop-up on the current WvW interface.
Many zones have meta-event chains with concise information about dynamic events all over the zone displayed on every player’s screen, so they can know when they’re needed to go help out with a big assault or defense. Why not add something similar for WvW, a dynamic event which is accessible from every zone, and affects the entire world?
Simplest notification would show a bar with % WvW holdings (by points rewarded).
Slightly more detail would include a blurb with the status of StoneMist and the three Orbs.
Expanding the notification could show bars with % holdings for each of each of the borderlands.
Serious detail could have indicators for the number of capture points currently being assaulted or defended by our world.
Simple notifications like these would allow players all across the world to be quickly aware when they are most needed in WvW, without having to teleport to Lion’s Arch and yell in mapchat, or get a guild member online in WvW to scout, or even just opening the WvW menu every 10 minutes to see whether it’s changed, all of which are very active habits that must be maintained, as opposed to everything else in the game’s PvE which players can passively absorb and react to.
Edit: To clarify, I’m not suggesting any changes be made to the notifications currently in place in WvW. The way the map and event system functions in WvW itself is close to perfect. I’m only suggesting notifications about WvW status be added for players in PvE and possibly PvP.
