Tested empirically. Was outrunning my mesmer ally until she cast swiftness on us both, then suddenly we were running side-by-side. Unless mesmers have an ability that increases their speed by 25% while they have the swiftness boon, Signet of the Hunt does nothing while you have the Swiftness boon.
Is it just me or does the new 25% speed increase not appear to stack with Swiftness?
Edit: Yes, it empirically does not stack with Swiftness. I had a mesmer ally I was outrunning hardcore with my Signet of the Hunt. She cast swiftness on us both and suddenly we were running side-by-side.

Also, confirmed: Arrows can still be sidestepped even at <900 range.
Edit: Make that <600 range.

Pets dying in WvW is definitely a control issue. I’m not even full rare geared let alone exotics and my pets almost never die in WvW. I highly recommend ranged pets if you have a problem with your melee pets running into AOEs.
Using a sword still roots you in place…sigh
Not sure why we have to put up with that when no other class/weapon combo does that.
Please fix.
uhhh that’s not even a problem, take it off auto attack.
uhhh disabling auto-attack to bypass a bug is not a solution or a fix. it’s a bandaid.
It isn’t even that; you still get rooted even when attacking with auto-attack off; it’s just that now you “choose” when to get rooted.
1. If your pets are dying instantly in dungeons then you are using the wrong pets or not controlling them well.
2. You can’t attack and damage walls in WvW either (without seige) so why should your pet be able to?
3. If you let your pet die or stay dead for a long time, then that is your mistake. You can avoid the 60 second timer most of the time.I have to agree with what Bastionhawk is saying here. I’m an avid Dungeon runner myself and ran many dungeons while leveling my Ranger in Explorer mode.
I have yet to understand HOW it is people’s pets are dying so much? Just swap them when they are low HP, or call them when appropriate.
To be fair, I can see how pets would die easily against Subject Alpha, Giganticus Lupicus, and and the Fractals ice boss, but I still do not have complaints beyond those. Bears for one are quite bulky in my opinion with 4000 vitality, invulnerability, and swapping every 15 seconds. I’m sure those pets would be useful for those situations.
Yeah, actually, I don’t personally have much problem with my pets dying in dungeons (except in the situations you mention above), but I think that’s mainly because I switched all my pets to Spiders and Devouerers. I hear a lot of complaints about pets’ survivability, but I suspect most of the people are complaining about melee pets, which I’ve just refused to use.
Maybe now that melee pets can actually hit on the run I might consider switching back and seeing how they fare.
I’m finding it funnier that they said the Warrior should do less damage then Ranger at range.
Yeah, zero bullet points on the warrior’s guns had me fuming pretty hard.
What I really want is for Longbow to get an additional damage boost at 1200-1500 range (currently only has boosts at 500 & 1000 range, or rather nerfs at less than that—183dps vs. warriors’ 356dps, which might be made-up-for if pets attacked as fast as their attack cooldowns say they should).
(edited by Cakoluchiam.6901)
My fingers are still crossed that the 30% missile speed buff will actually do anything. I’m not certain of the physics, but given the wide miss margins before, it seems to me like that should still allow somebody to strafe arrows without dodging at max (1200-1500) range.
- Ranger
- The ranger class combines its own innate abilities with the skills of their pets. We’ve balanced the class around the idea that you always have a pet with you to aid in any fight. The fact that the ranger can have multiple pets allows them to combine their pets in ways that most impact the current fight. We want the Ranger to have some of the evasion enjoyed by the Thief, as well as the mobility other classes employ. The class is able to deal physical or condition damage, and it can do this in melee or at range.
… and yet still no fix for the fact that ranger pets die instantly in dungeons, can’t attack from keep walls in WvW, and take 60s to respawn -AFTER- you’ve switched them out, regardless of how long they’ve been dead. Excellent.
The way I like to think about it is: how much does it cost to buy a Mystic Salvage Kit vs. 10 Master’s Salvage Kits.
At 1gold/45gems, it costs 32g62s to buy 10 Mystic Salvage Kits, vs. the 15g36s to buy 100 Master’s Salvage Kits
Now, granted, 10x stack size is a nice convenience, but I don’t think it’s the 200% value convenience the current cost of gems would suggest, especially when for the differential cost of 10 mystic salvage kits, you could buy a new bag slot or a 20-slot bag of your choice.
/age: 553hrs
Kills: 1,396
Badges: 203
I think I’ve spent maybe 50-75 badges on siege equipment, so that’s roughly a 20% badge/kill rate.
I’ve done the jump puzzles a couple times, but never got a significant amount of badges out of it.
According to the tooltip at https://account.guildwars2.com/account , “The four-digit code does not appear in the game itself unless another player chooses the same name, in which case both your name and the four-digit code will appear.”
Nonetheless, in-game mail requires players to be identified with their four-digit code, Guild Rosters list players with their four-digit code, and hovering the name of any player in the party interface element, or in the contacts pane, or in the chat pane (provided the player is in your party or guild) will show the account name with four-digit code included.
I for one am fairly certain that my account name is unique, and many of my guild members whose names are displayed alongside a four-digit code have sufficiently abstruse names that I doubt anyone else has chosen the same.
I understand that in the rare instance of a conflict, that code might be necessary, but for that extreme case, shouldn’t you just have a tab-completion or a “did you mean Bob.1234 or Bob.5678?” confirmation on a message/invite/etc, so we don’t have to go through the agonizing process of remembering a four-digit code for someone we haven’t talked to in ages who may be playing on a different character now and we totally forgot to add them to our friends list before they left the guild?
Thanks.
I logged on to do some Guild Maintenance, editing ranks, upgrades, guild memos, etc. and in the middle of composing a message to a former guild member I got the alert “Unless you resume active play you will be kicked in 50 seconds.”
I was doing this in town, not camping a Dynamic Event, not taking up slots in WvW, and in general, not being idle at all, and I’m only doing the guild maintenance using the in-game interface because no web or other interface is available!
I had to close the mail window (losing my memo) so I could get keyboard focus back to the game to do a little wiggle with WASD in order to cancel the idle drop counter.
Please don’t automatically log us out in the middle of negotiating the in-game interfaces.
Anyone but me also getting the bug where sometimes it creates the vines on every enemy in front of you and sometimes it only does the one you have targeted? It’s inconsistent and weird.
My exotics were lvl 78 as well, but at least their runes netted me a few gold.
500+ hrs invested and too many unique soulbound items. I know I’m succumbing to the sunk cost fallacy, but dyamn I don’t want to let that all go.
Still got mine. Was hoping there would be a mystic forge recipe or something but there doesn’t seem to be.
When pets become combat engaged, you become combat-engaged, and vice versa. This can work to your detriment, for example, in the cliffside fractal, when you pick up the hammer at the windy tower portion, you take damage. Normally, since you would be out of combat, you could heal this damage quickly and continue on with the tower climb. Instead, your pet pops out, you can’t put him back, and of course he decides to run out in front of the blasting winds and get himself stuck in “combat”, leaving you without the ability to get rid of that godawful combat slowness on a puzzle that requires speed.
Pets will aggro mobs whether they are active or passive, it’s just that passive pets are better at sticking near the ranger, so the aggro radius is only slightly larger than with the pet stowed.
Pets also suicidally trigger as many traps as they can while dungeoneering.
Right the running out of range thing. If you hit the button while they’re in range and then they run out of range while it’s casting, it misses and you have full cooldown. It’s reasonable for projectile or sweeping attacks to have full cooldown when they miss because there’s a chance they might hit something else in-between you and the target, but Hunter’s Call has no such chance, so having them step out of range mid-channel shouldn’t deprive you of that skill for the full cooldown duration, especially when it’s the only damage-dealing attack on that weapon.
Golden.
You know we still love you, designers, but this video sums up how the balance/fix changes in the patch make us feel.
On the plus side, the Southsun event today was balls-awesome.
- Hunter’s Call no longer requires line of sight
Ooh, good one. I would also add:
- If “Hunter’s Call” fails to trigger because the target is out of range, the cooldown is reduced to 3s instead of the full 25s
I actually really enjoyed my moving spirit build while adventuring or dungeoneering with a party, or running with a zerg in WvW, even before the buff. They probably still aren’t viable for PvP, but they’re comfortably low-maintenance for casual play.
1. “Lick Wounds” now fully heals the ranger’s pet regardless whether it was defeated, teleports it to your location, and grants it 1 second of invulnerability. Bug causing the pet to sometimes not revive the ranger is also fixed.
2. Auto-attack on ranged weapons now continues to fire regardless of range, so long as the targeted enemy remains within targetable distance.
3. Stowed Pets now remain stowed in combat, but the pet skill bar remains when your pet is stowed. Activating any pet skill will unstow your pet.
4. Spirits are now summoned within range 150 of the Ranger, down from 300. Additionally, they now have a natural 50% evasion.
5. Ranger weapon skills no longer root the ranger in place.
6. Greatsword skill “Swoop” now correctly hits targets at lower elevation than you.
7. Tooltip for the Harpoon Gun skill “Mercy Shot” now provides information about the levels of damage for various health values, as Thief skill “Heartseeker”
8. Greatsword skill “Counterattack” and Spear skill “Counterstrike” now automatically trigger their secondary effect of throwing the weapon if the channel completes without interruption.
9. Tooltips for skills that augment attributes of your pet, such as “Sick ’Em”, “Signet of the Hunt”, “Signet of Stone”, and “Signet of the Wild” now state the amount your pets’ attributes are augmented.
10. Tooltip for the Spear skill “Dart” now correctly includes granting swiftness to your pet.
I would be quite happy with all of the above, regardless of any actual buffs. If we’re talking ultimate Christmas wish here though, I’d ask for these:
11. New Skill: “Signet of Vigilance”. Passive effect: Flanking effects are not triggered on the ranger or pet. Activate to reveal stealthed units in 600 radius from your pet for 5s.
12. Pets now automatically revive 60 seconds after being downed, whether active or stowed. If a pet is stowed or swapped-out while downed, the timer until it revives counts down from the time it was downed, not the time it was swapped or stowed. Rangers may now swap-in downed pets to save their active ones, but the 20 second cooldown on swapping still applies.
13. Flying pets can actually fly, not just be really tall with invisible feet.

Was it worth it? Definitely yes. The experience alone was unique and unlike any other event chain in the entire game, and I’m glad I got to see it from start to finish.
I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t even get any level 80 exotics as rewards, while it seems nearly half of the entire server picked up uniques and precursors, but the 20-slot bag and an ultimate earring are more reward than I was expecting anyway.
While I’m sad that it’s not going to happen again, considering how fun it was, at least it proves that the devs can still produce unique and worthwhile experiences, and so long as they continue with this level of commitment, I’m definitely going to keep playing.
OK, the buggy and imbalanced events earlier were all worth it. This final event is freaking epic. I’ve been on since it started and it’s still going on my overflow server. Oh my god I love you guys.
Beastgate is its own mascot.
Title says it all. Can’t join any of my party members in their individual overflow servers for Southsun Beach.

Any predictions on post-event phase 2?

BlackGate.
Known for having outmanned buff in primetime on 2/3 Borderlands while there’s a 3-hour queue to get into Eternal Battlegrounds.
Oh yeah, also roflstomping through to Tier 1, then getting [rhymes-with-pocky] and letting our guard down.
CITIZENS! CITIZENS!
Pets still don’t actually come heal you when you’re dead.
so… is this happening?
D :
Needs a repair block. Even if it’s x10 repair costs, it is NEEDED. Took over 10 TPKs to figure out the strat for the final boss, and by that time none of us could tank because we had no armor.
Unless you want to encourage people to play by having a game guide open in another window…. definitely needs a repair block.
At one point I tab-targeted to a purple-level-80 while everyone was downscaled to level 7… but the mob never rendered on my screen, so I didn’t get to see what it was.
Invisible people I can understand. All the unique models need to be loaded into graphics memory etc… but now even the mobs are invisible when I go to the Karka events. And not just the Karka. At the Morgan’s Spiral event, even the Blue Moa were invisible. I was so excited to get a single tag during the event and then I ran over to claim loot and after about 5 seconds a blue moa corpse appeared… dropping level 7 loot for my level 80.
I never thought I’d be saying this, but please, please make more use of overflow servers if world events are gonna be this condensed.

New best Legendary for rangers :}
Lucky I’ve been going for this the whole time : )
Salute to all those I’ve faced 1v1 in SBI borderlands the past few days; it’s been an honor, regardless who won. /bow
"Stabby"—any pets I have that cause bleeding
"Barfy"—any pets I have that cause poison
As amazing as that would be, I’d imagine it would get complicated when it comes to figuring out what exactly is “flanking” when it comes to multiple people attacking you.
I don’t think “flanking” is a new mechanic—the “Hunter’s Tactics” trait uses it, and Thieves have flanking effects on all their backstab abilities.
How about a “Signet of Vigilance”
Passive: You and your pet take reduced damage from flanking.
Active: Reveal stealthed units in 600 range to your pet.
(active effect assigned to the pet so it works with Signet of the Beastmaster)
-Added ability “Signet of Vigilance”: Passively renders ranger and pet immune to any flanking or backstab bonuses; Activate to reveal stealthed units within 600 range of your pet for 15 seconds.
Also,
We rely on pets do deal damage too, and in wvsw it’s kinda difficult to keep your pet alive + letting it deal a lot of damage (without speccing in BM, only bears last a little while in zerg and they’re not dps-based..)
So ya, that warrior owns us if you look at ranged raw dps in wvsw
If you’re looking for a good WvW pet, stop trying to use melee pets. My Devourers and Spiders very rarely die and can even sometimes DPS from walls.
In 1v1 even, most people ignore ranged pets because they aren’t up in their face, so they can continue to DPS even when you get downed. I’ve won several 1v1s from downed because my opponent ignored my pet and went straight for the finishing blow, then ended up getting downed himself halfway through the channel by combination of my pet + dirt throw.
…not to suggest that rangers aren’t severely underpowered in a thread so heavily biased in that direction, but there are some slightly redeeming qualities.

Just substitute any instance of the word “Elementalist” with the word “Ranger”.
Also, substitute the part where he talks about “Dragon’s Tooth” and insert “Pet”.
I need to go buy a new desk; the state this one is in after the powerful beating it took from my skull as I watched this is beyond repair.
Guys, Rangers are fine! Watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ru_rXq2LYg0#!
Again, Rangers are fine…..oh wait :-(
Oh my god.
I’m moderately glass-cannon built and that is literally 10x my usual combined damage from myself and pet, and it looks like he’s able to do some kind of repeating damage while charging his laser as well. AND IT’S APPARENTLY SPLASH DAMAGE. WHAT.
And I thought I was pissed when I found out that RANGErs have no more range than any other class using a ranged weapon.
It’s like every other class in the game is splitting the atom and we’re still sitting here sharpening sticks.
T_T me too; even rushed to the computer at 4:30 to get them all in under the wire; guess I missed out.
Anyone got a map? I can’t queue in yet.
Good job on taking the early lead, SBI. It’s good to know that the flood of turncoats to Blackgate in recent weeks didn’t completely overpower our server.
Badges of Honor should also be earned through taking stuff too...
in WvW
Posted by: Cakoluchiam.6901
Badges are for WvW gear and legendaries. They SHOULD be rare.
The only other thing badges are used for is buying siege weaponry, with buying power of 1 badge == 1 silver, and you -do- get guaranteed silver as a reward for capturing points.
Congratulations SBI on your solid return to the lead! You are worthy opponents indeed.
Sorry about all my compatriots QQing about “team-ups”. I really enjoy meeting both JQ and SBI in the field together; 3-way battles are much more interesting than 1v1.
Rock on, and I hope to face you again next week!
+1; this is good not just for RPers but also for parties and guilds who have limited resources and want to distribute them in a non-judgmental manner.
/rock /paper /scissors is also a good one to have to settle arguments, if it’s not already implemented.
