I think your Sylvari looks really lovely in the rolled back picture, but I, too, prefer the subtle shading over the extremely bright glow we got at first. So I think she looks much nicer in the top screenshot! I find it much easier to put together a nice colour scheme now that we have such nice shading again.
Included a picture of my mesmer as an example of those that… did not get a good look after the glow update. So I am relieved to have had it mostly reverted to how it was before. The extreme difference in how the dyes worked all of a sudden was pretty horrifying to me.
It’s because it’s dyed a dark color. She made it so brighter colors would glow brighter and darker colors would glow less, as a compromise for those who want bright glow can use bright colors and those who don’t want glow or subtle glow can use darker colors.
Problem is even with light colors they do not glow
That could be a bug; I have the T3 light skirt on my mesmer, and his still glows. Not as much as before (which I am very, very thankful for as he used to light up like a neon sign at night), but the glow is without a doubt there.
So I am very, very happy with this update. The things I loved about T3 that were removed in favour for glow is back, and I am thrilled to have my glossy leaves with subtle shading again. The hues and the shading are not quite as they were before the glow update, but I am happy with the compromise.
After the previous update walking through the Grove made me feel rather sad because the NPCs looked wilted, much like dying autumn leaves. Now they have most of their shine back, so I actually like being around the Grove again. Thank you so much for this update!
Still not working for me. No matter what I put in a search for, I get zero results. Tested on the latest version of Chrome, Firefox and Explorer, on three different computers.
So far, four of my six Sylvari has been affected by this. I checked one of them out in a makeover kit, and the slider had actually changed from my selected Ice to Frost. So it does not look like it is just a graphic thing since the colour I selected in character creation has been switched to a different one.
My white eyes are now grey, light green eyes are now pitch black, another light green are now a vivid orange, blue eyes are now pitch black.
In the last build a large amount of Sylvari eye colours were changed. It has not been fixed in any of the recent patches, so today I looked my mesmer over in a makeover kit to see if the slider is even in the correct spot anymore. I discovered that it is not. He went from having the Ice (a pure white) colour selected to having Frost (a dulled grey), which is a very obvious and unwanted change.
Four out of my six Sylvari has been affected by this issue, and one has had her body glow changed as well. Apparently using a makeover kit to restore the old eye colour/glow does not change it back.
Some input on this would be appreciated.
As the title says, completing individual daily categories are not giving me any experience. A friend has the same problem, so it is not just me. I level my alts by completing the daily categories, so this is a big issue.
I am glad we have gotten a response and that she is looking into it, but this sudden switch in attitude about changing things people have already bought has hurt my trust in Anet very, very much. I also wish they could have rolled the change back while they work on the tweaks since it will take a very long time to fix this and a lot of outfits are ruined (honestly, I wish they would just make two separate sets, one with texture and one with glow, but I can see why they would not), but at least something is happening. I am especially saddened by what this change has done to light coloured outfits, and based on her statement I worry they will never look good again. The lack of texture in the T3 light skirt is especially apparent; part of it still retains the old leaf texture, but the front is completely flat and dyes like cloth so there is no way to get a uniform look with a light colour. I miss my bright pink fairy mesmer and how his skirt used to look the same as his hair/petals. It used to look like it was all growing out of him, and now it looks like he is wearing and oddly shaped plastic apron over it.
I have been very unhappy with this change, and after reading the quote by Kristen Perry I feel even more worse about it since this change goes against what she has previously said. I have the T3 medium coat on my ranger and while I very much appreciate not having a green part forced on it when I dye it blue, I really miss the lack of depth in the colour and textures. But what really hurts is my light T3 skirt. The back part of it retains some of the wonderful old leaf texture, but the front does not, making it look like two different garments stitched together. The leaf part wraps around the front a bit, so you have two completely different shown textures together, making the front part look even more dead and undetailed (and no, I do not think we should simply make the entire skirt untextured, that would be terrible). The front and back takes dyes differently, as well, which is a problem.
I own every single pink dye in the game, and despite mixing and matching them all since the change there is no way for me to get close to my old look, which was my endgame look that I grinded for months to be able to buy, and that I have been happy with for months. Having it taken away without having any say in it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. The majority of my characters (six of them) are Sylvari, so this change is affecting most of my gameplay. Their beautiful cultural armour has played a big part in me rolling so many, so I am very, very concerned right now.
I do think the female light T1 looks very nice now, though (the little dots we get on the shoes are adorable). T3? Not at all. Here is a picture of my mesmer in the same dyes before and after, and the sudden lack of detail, shading and blending is rather appalling and a huge downgrade. Please, please consider giving us the option to choose between a textured set or a glowing set. The glossy leaf texture was my main reason for buying it, and why I loved Sylvari culturals enough to get them for all my Sylvari characters.
While I do appreciate that attention has been focused on Sylvari, I am quite saddened by the results as I feel the change removes a lot of the Sylvari look. I loved the waxy, plant-like appearance of the specular map— the texture you removed to make room for this change was the entire reason I bought this armour in the first place. Yes, the dyes worked on it differently than other materials, but we have had over a year to get used to it (it never bothered me in the first place, either; just as cloth dyes differently from metal, plant armour dyed differently from the rest) and pick our dyes accordingly. This is way, way too late in the game to make such a big change to armour this expensive.
I have included a before and after look of my mesmer, and as you can see, before it looked like he was wearing leaves. Now, not so much. All the subtle blending and hues melting into each other is gone and the colours are left looking flat and garish. It alters the appearance of the armour way, way too much. Without the texture, it no longer looks like leaves, which I felt was the entire point of Sylvari culturals. The different tiers no longer match each other, either, with some of them keeping the waxy look— I suppose this indicates that you are going to change all the culturals to look as flat like this? Please, no.
Please, please reconsider, you are removing too much of what made Sylvari culturals so unique and beautiful. Please give us the option to use the old version of the culturals for those of us who prefer the leaf texture over the stronger glow. The set I bought is not the set I have, now, and not the one I want.
In addition, I am bothered by how light female T3 top now has a breast glow when the male version does not.
