-If you look at the forum, the main problem about spvp is not the lack of content but rather the senseless choices that Anet made during developement, it’s the fact that practically in every view they made a step back compared to GW1. Stuff made sense there, stuff makes no sense whatsoever here.
They made people hotjoin into games that are 8v8 on 5v5 maps, in free tournies they make pug teams face awesome premades, and well… empty paid tournaments are just a reflection of how good their choices are with free tournies and hotjoin. The peak of their pvp is rotten, because the foundation they built is senseless. It’s like Plague said on some other topic – obviously the great minds that made GW1 pvp are gone, and now in GW2 there’s just people that don’t understand what they have to do with spvp anymore.I had hope for a while, but now I’m loosing it. I will decide if i should completely give up after I see the november patch. But the way Anet is functioning at the moment I think it’s going to be full of pve stuff and hardly anything for spvp. It seems they decided that pve community is what they’re going for…
I think Guild Wars 2 has one of the best pvp communities ive ever had the pleasure of playing with.
On the forums its no different, people post constructive well thought out ideas, and more often then not, they think things through before they post.
I think Anet is letting this community slip through their fingers and aren’t doing anything to keep us here.

Like Jacobin pointed out above me, the QP’s are skewed towards the one percentile. This leads to segregation and demotes competitive pvp, which Anet is supposedly trying to nourish….
Instead of forcing us to run tournaments, where we have to wait for 40 people to show up, let us instead run best of 3’s versus a single team. This will reduce the wait times and in turn spread out the QP’s.
I really don’t see a way the current QP system will do anything but cater to the four or five teams which are constantly on.
uh pvp is already region wide, so they already have cross-server queues (i.e. all north american servers are grouped and all eu servers are grouped for pvp)
and to counter the QP issue you could just make QPs only rewarded in paid tournaments.
I don’t think you understood what he was saying. There is a region block, meaning we aren’t able to fight against the European teams and the asian teams which play super late at night. This means there could be teams with 1000 rating earning QP’s while the top 8 teams in the world could be slugging it out during prime time for a single QP.
There is currently no balance to the distribution of QP’s. My team usually jokes about the fact that when monthlies roll by there will only be 4 teams in it. That would be so fun to watch…..
I could not agree with you more OP. Unless some big things happen before Christmas we could possibly kiss the pvp community goodbye.
More then half of the original pvp guilds are gone; this also extends to those “pro e-sport” teams.
What needs to happen is:
- Increase in variety of pvp formats to keep things interesting and entertain the casuals
- A ladder system to help create some sort of hierarchy and nurture budding teams
- Bug fixes ie. Svanir rune, block bug, alleged multiple elite bug
- Overall balance
- Observer mode and ability for private tournaments. Money draws in the crowd, and people like watching this sort of competition.
This needs to occur fairly soon otherwise it will be a long road repopulating the pvp community.

I’ve got to agree. Currently even in prime time your forced to wait 15-20 minutes.
God help you if you try queuing at any other time, ie. 40+ minutes or no pops at all.
Rune of Air is horribly broken atm. So you could add that to your list.
Your Thief adjustments would probably make the class unplayable. What i would suggest instead is, alongside with your nerfs, the thief’s sustained damage should be increased. This would make it less bursty but not garbage, after all it has to deal some damage to be viable.
Rangers need a complete rework. Traits, utilities and pets all suck……………
Engineers need a sustained dps option that does not rely on conditions.
Mesmer portal is imba on every single map, not just khylo. This makes them invaluable and locks every team in a stagnant set-up.

There will need to be some hefty changes to bring rangers into line with other classes.
Currently in pvp, the only really viable build is torch+trap condition ranger and the sad fact is, its not that great.
I’ve been hoping the ranger would get fixed much sooner then this, but at least its coming…..
Me and my friends were actually talking about this earlier. Portal is without a doubt the strongest utility skill, and possibly rivals most elite skills.

Yeah it is a bit concerning. Today my team had 1, 50 minute wait and several 15+ minute waits.
It was posted in the original Halloween announcement.

I think a large portion of complaints stem from pvp players. Why is this, because the role they filled prior to the nerf was a damage dealing source with aoe root on foefire. Now they dont fill any viable roles, because every other class does it better.
Problem is the only really viable build was crit/power sb. This was only possible due to the synergy between attack 1 and QZ. That synergy is gone and therefore so is the damage, making the build useless.
We are now left without any real dps options in pvp because all the other weapons frankly suck.
Why could you not have buffed the other weapons whilst nerfing the SB? Instead you nerfed it and now expect us to play (arguably) the worst class till you get your acts together.
Kind of disappointed in the decision making here.
Yeah, load time seems to have double on my ssd as well.
