I will admit that it is difficult on several fronts, ie it takes significantly longer to pick up the crystals and throw them, the dodges some times pull you back just that tiny bit so you get caught in aoe etc. Even though there are obstacles it is still possible, you just have to take these issues into consideration.
Edit: apparently i cant use the word hard and on together even though its appropriate for the sentence .

i’ve done it versus deadeye
used a 30-20-0-0-20 build – spirit weapon powah!
@bnplay: i’ve done “Light Up the Darkness” with scepter/shield and “Meatless Murderer” with hammer/scepter+shield (cc the kitten out of that doggy) – both on a 0-0-30-30-10
didnt even used food, some more practice and you’ll make it
Could i get you to elaborate on how you beat deadeye with a spirit weapon build? Thanks
If you wish to be successful in this game then you will be pigeon holed into a select few builds, which is why the top teams will run mirror lineups.
A year down the road and there is even less variability in team compositions, im not sure whether this is due to game type or the game balance.
On a positive note it is fun to play now and then, and the combat is extremely fluid, i dare say the best i’ve experienced.
Play a little longer and decide for yourself.

I agree with everything said here.
Frankly within a span of 10 minutes i went from scratching my head to being bored. Now im a guy who can sit down and watch LCS, DotA even CS for extended periods of time even though i dont play them. How unfortunate is it that the one game i play and truely enjoy cant even keep my attention for the length of a match…
I personally believe this all comes down to bad game design:
- Paced too fast: Pace of an FPS with the complexity of an MMO. FPS are simple, point gun and shoot, therefore the fast pace is fine; you dont need to process a lot of information. MMO combat is too complex, there are boons, conditions, spell triggers, traps, weapons ranges etc. the list goes on and Anet some how expects us to process all this information in the span of mere seconds. I implore you, slow it down a little, give us more time to see whats actually happening.
- Graphics: Just because you can do it doesnt mean you should. I remember writing a short story in year 4, i used every little tool Word 98 had to make it look cool. in hindsight it looked like kitten. Yes GW2 is akin to my year 4 project, so much decoration that you actually cant see whats going on.
- Characters: They just look too similar. In small 1v1’s or 2v2’s its fine, but in anything larger it becomes just too confusing to follow. Was that a ranger or thief who dodge rolled?
- Camera: We need a free roaming camera. I saw so many bad angles during the games that i watches. Now im not sure whether that was due to the camera mans inexperience or due to the poorly placed cameras around the map.

Good post, i was having the same worries.
I found that i could manage the crystals, but the Sanctum Sprint is unplayable as im rubber banding all over the place. Pretty unfortunate i cant even try it, because it seems like a fun game.

^this whole heartedly
Will anyone actually bother with paids once 1 team vs 1 team maps come out? Seems to me like this is the final nail in the coffin for paid pvp.
Wow you guys must be so good at this game, maybe one day i will be too.
On another note, i hear ace of spades is the most awesome player to ever enter the GW2 scene and he single-handedly innovates the EU meta, thus allowing them to stomp every NA team.
yeah why not, gotta get those numbers up
I’ll talk more about how these systems work together when the new system is ready to be brought on line!
After everyone has quit.
Yeah pretty much.
Seeing what a monumental kitten up pvp is i don’t expect them to pull anything redeeming out of their arses come Jan-Mar
Out of curiosity how many teams are left in NA?
Great change in every single way.
People cry for the sake of crying.
@ Noctred
Your right of course. Thats the one thing that irked me the most; too many questiosn were blown off. Another example is ‘No paid ques unless in prime time’. That question was totally blown off.
The player representatives need to be more aggressive.
If you think you are a top GW2 Tpvp player its likely you are not good at all unless you have been top in other MMO/Games like WoW arena or GW1 gold trim when people actually played the game.
I would go one step further and say, if you think you are a top GW2 Tpvp player you are delusional. This is true for two reasons: one, the proportion of the population playing GW2 pTpvp is ridiculously tiny and two, there is no drive to create a competitive scene which breeds “pro” pvp players.
I think this interview helped a lot to relieve peoples fears, but i think in the future we need a host or guests who can ask the hard questions and not be intimidated. For example the guardian block bug was not judged urgent… how is that not urgent when it dominated tPvP for a solid month?
Another fact id like to bring up is the lack of NA players. Lowell brought up a good point of how dead our (NA) paid community is, but the other guys shut him down, not because they knew what they were talking about, but out of ignorance.
TL;DR i would like a mix of both NA and EU players who are not afraid to ask hard questions and push our key issues without being blown off.
tPvP is same old. The que times are around 10-20 mins between 6-9pm, before or after its not really worth bothering. The population is holding steady, by this i mean were still hovering around 9-10 teams in NA.
Hope this helps.
I don’t care about the PvE or WvW crowd right now, because we’re having enough trouble keeping the PvP people interested.
The whole tournament system is ridiculously bad for the community. To grow a PvP community you need to encourage the players to grow while also allowing them to have fun. With the tournament system 7/8 teams will not have fun because they lose.
In traditional PvP you would play against another equally ranked team and you would have a 50/50 chance of winning. In GW2 on the other hand you will face 7 other teams, some of which will be far below your skill level, whilst others will be far above you. This means there is no sense of victory, no exhilaration at beating another equally skilled team, no pride. The tournament system leaves you feeling bored and tired.
I would really love Arena net if they would admit their faults and just replace tournaments with either laddered team vs team or best of three’s. The tournaments can be shelved for the weekly, monthly and eventually yearly competitions.
I believe this would create a solid foundation which they could build off..hint hint HA/Tombs.
Scrap tournies and introduce laddered best of three’s. Yeah tournies are unique but who cares how unique they are when your forced to wait 20 mins prime time ( i use prime time loosely because its only a two hour window) and 1 hour + off peak.
now for your idea of getting rid of paid i would advise against it. reason
1. the best ppl need a place to stut our kitten
2. when there is 5-600 teams playing we really do want a place for the greats we dont want it how it is now were the good ppl play the news in free. eventually the grerats need to be in paid only not farming the goods.good job on the post it seems like the majority of the community is useing our brain lets keep it up and monday we will hear from the devs.
You don’t get it. Why would you keep paid and have matchmaking it would make the que times even longer. What the OP is suggesting is getting rid of the paid tournies and putting everyone in the frees, this way the matchmaking would have a larger pool to choose from, and you wouldn’t play easy teams because you would be pooled with other good players.
Start Paid tournaments = you play against the best hardcore team in europe. Result = 500-20 or 500-100.
Paid is for organized? No, there is for crazy ppl that play 24/24 7/7 all day all time. So other ppl can’t, simply can’t win paid tournament.
ANet should fix this.
While the crazy teams do play a lot, you can still win. My team does maybe 10 paid tournies a week and we manage to win a good amount. So don’t get too discouraged, every team loses.
Because the map required no code, we simply worked with art, design and sound in order to support this map’s needs.
So your first true PvP content addition was basically effortless? Bravo Anet, you got a lot of making up to do next patch.
Designing a map is effortless? Please there’s no need to bring stupidity into this thread.
It is quite strong in holding a node neutral as as zerg chain of bunker characters stream back in as PZ likes to do, while they tirelessly research new exploits.
It can be yes. But why are just you holding the node? I play with a few good bunkers who usually only die when its a 4 on 1 or a really long 3 vs 1. So I am a little worried you don’t know what it’s like to have a good bunker on your team and you don’t have to worry about being the tank or holding the point.
Actually, I play bunker for my team, so I know what I am talking about. Are you really a little worried?
What do you even mean “just holding the node”? You make that sound as if its a failure when you are faced with a 2 on 1 situation? As opposed to what? Prolonging your team’s control of a node or maintaining a neutral are a success in itself.
Plague form, with its stability and ability to significantly inhibit close proximity damage, is VERY effective in buying time until teammates can arrive by delaying loss of a node or keeping it neutral. It is very strong at clocktower, waterfall, keep, etc. A necro has the unique ability on a team to have the emergency “bunker” relief via plague form that other damage classes simply do not have access to.
The bunkers you are referring to are an extinct race of bunkers who were able to withstand damage by using mace block bugs, exploiting svanir runes, and having maximized protection uptime. These are no longer a reality. So, let’s be realistic?
I think he’s talking about spvp which has no standing in tpvp.
It was broken in the sense that players could constantly stream in to a point, thereby preventing capture. This was most noticeable on foefire when using both a guardian and staff ele on mid point.
Thank you for the quick change, it is appreciated.
I’m still not sure whether 15 seconds may be too long as a static timer. An interesting idea someone brought up in another thread was a static 20 second timer, but it begins counting down when you enter down state. It worthy of testing imo.
@Powerr
You actually played the whole day with this? I closed the game after my tournie was done, couldn’t hold in the rage.
Another reason as to why Anet is not listening. The 2 DEVS working on PVP should be fired.. they totally killed pvp.. this adds injury to insult… seriously, 20 sec re spawn timers.. wtf devs.
i believe it goes “adds salt to injury”
It’s actually “to add insult to injury”
By tankier i mean builds with survivability that still do decent dps ie. DPS guardian with book (kind of what oppa runs), teldo engi and tankier mark necros. Classes like these wont melt in team fights like thiefs or burst eles do, this will in turn give your team a much greater advantage with the new respawn timers.
Then again ive been proven wrong plenty of times. This is just what i think will occur thanks to the update. A simple fix would be a reduction to 12-15 seconds.
(edited by Coopers.4376)
I have to agree with Liewec, these changes are nothing but detrimental. The 20 second timer will cause teams to run much tankier specs overall, which means we will most likely see many prolonged engagements, with team fights lasting into the minutes rather then into the seconds. Mercy sets + revive skills will also become mandatory because players are now too valuable to lose.
Overall i think this will breed a much slower paced and boring meta, which i thought Arena Net was trying to move away from.
(edited by Coopers.4376)
Your right, it pays off more to play tankier specs because your chance of being downed will be significantly smaller.
Well we now have a 20 second individual respawn timer…
Probably the worst idea i have witnessed to date. The amount of detrimental effects this will have is ridiculous.
Im sorry, its just that its so dumb i cant imagine anyone actually green lit this.
Considering engis are a class of attrition then it would make sense that they couldn’t burst as hard as thief’s or eles…
Not too sure what your really asking.
My post made perfect sense, you nitpicking someone complaining about thiefs OP nature because he does not know the class in and out perfectly is what did not make sense to me. Also this is the SPVP forums not the Thief forum your warrior boards example was condesending.
D/D instagib still happens, its still needs toning down with the nerfs to bunkers skills the changes to thiefs did nothing, the bunker nerfs is a net gain for the class in reality.
P/D conditions is a solid viable build the prema AoE snare has a role in Tpvp, its sure more useful then anything a warrior brings to the Tpvp table.
D/D damage is still to strong, but the reason you will now see every person running it is because there are no other viable builds. If you were to run P/D in paids, as you suggested, then you would be asking for a first round knock out.
For the thief to be fixed “backstab” needs to be toned down by 10% base, and the thief’s power scaling needs to be increased, thereby increasing the sustained damage without making burst impractical.
I would take this with a grain of salt as most teams switch out classes depending on the map eg. you will see more necros on the first two maps then on the last one or more staff eles on the last map then the first two.
Why run anything other then D/D when it blows every other combination away?
Warriors are a top tier pick for dps.
No they are not.
http://www.gw2league.com/rankings-spvp.aspx
Top tournament classes:
Guardian 8
Mesmer 7
Elementalist 6
Thief 6
Engineer 4
Necro 3
Ranger 1
Warrior 1
Sorry i should have clarified that my post was in reference to post patch.
@ power
What sort of meta changes do you see. Guess i must be short sighted because i don’t see anything too drastic nor do i see the variety of builds increasing.
Why run anything other then D/D when it blows every other combination away?
Warriors are a top tier pick for dps.
@Sakulos
Guardians bunker fine, they weren’t affected too much with this patch. Elementalists can still do a decent job as bunkers and are useful treb killers.
Thief’s can still kill people very fast, just need that one heart seeker to finish off the prey. Along with their mobility they are a pretty solid pick.
The meta has no changed at all post patch. Most teams are now actually focusing more on bunkering down rather then playing offensively. It is not an uncommon sight to see two guardians or a guardian and an ele on a team. Thief’s still seem to be on every team and mesmers are playing the usual back point holder. Oh yeah rangers are still shunned.
Balance patch over and all is still the same.
Cheer up people, GW2 is a solid game that isn’t going anywhere.
Take a deep breath, relax, and CHILL OUT.
Alot of people are though. I hope they come back once the game is fixed though.
There is very little reason not to run a thief in tPvP. It has great mobility, cluster still does decent damage and back stab hits just as hard.
I would really like:
1) More variety in competitive team builds, this includes moving away from the boring kitten bunker meta; which this patch did not fix.
2) Matchmaking along side ladders.
I hope this jackpot in conjunction with the dailies does increase the que pop.
Actually, yesterday in the mists they said they only have 1 server programmer working on pvp.
2 people hmmm. What does this mean for pvp?
There never where any oceanic teams, it was just the american teams playing late night to get as much play time as possible.
Oh daym, kitten just got real.
+1 Reikou, everyone knows EU is the second tier division.
Yeah, im forced to wake up crazy early to play with the americans
Vyndetta is a ranger.
