People who say “there is no control” in this game are absolutely idiotic. Control is the thing that allows DPS to work as well as it does. All members of the party bring control elements in a successful speed run group, working as intended by design.
What you DON’T have is a dedicate “control player” who sits there and CC-locks bosses the whole fight to allow people to beat down bosses Bjarl fruit style.
I suspect that the desire for “pure control” comes from disgruntled pvt WvW stunlock zerg hammer warriors who are told they arent so hot in pve and cant fathom the idea of not using a different build for a different game mode.
Or maybe because some people love control elements and really want more of them in game. At this moment you can’t control anything more than pushing boss into place and stacking on it.
And no, I’m not WWW player. I’m GW1 and Ragnarok Online veteran, and I played them on damage/control classes. And I want more of such control in GW2, because what we have at the moment is pretty much useless and boring.
I feel the same, and this is exactly why I now refuse to play warrior. I just don’t find it fun that I don’t have to try to face-stomp everyone else; I get nothing out of it. I also feel that this accurately sums up what’ wrong w/ the warrior: it does everything too well. They heal like they’re guardians, they deal damage like they’re thieves, and they have high mobility to to it off with.
I agree with everything you said but except with 1; “they deal damage like they’re thieves”
I will say again and again, Warriors should be Master of Damage, not thief. Warriors wear heavy set armor.. resulting in more damages.
Thief in the other hand, should be Master of Mobility and Evasion; nothing more, nothing else.
Only in Guild Wars 2 where you will find these two classes being freely given God Mode status mechanics and having Full Unlimited Domination among the remaining classes and the game.
Why?
I leave that up to you to decide.
So…thief should be master of running away, avoiding combat? I suppose they could be useful as node farmers but… this IS a game about fighting, is it not?
And heavy armor effects your damage how? I suppose the wight could cause you to swing slower, but I believe that would have a detrimental effect on your momentum, decreasing the force of your blow.
The Rage with thief class; not only they are Master of running away, avoiding combat but they are also Master of Damage and Master of Survivalbitly.. seriously!!?
Warrior in the other hand with wearing Heavy Armor should be outputting Heavy Damage because once again, they are prepared for Heavy battle. They are fully equipped with axe, greatsword, hammer, mace, shield; why shouldn’t they output high damage?
Whereas thief, not equipping heavy armors with heavy weapons whatsoever, can output high damage if not close to the warrior damage?
Where in MMo history where you will ever find a class not prepared for battle is the last one to stand?
Where in MMo history will you ever find a class not wearing Heavy Armor can be Invulnerable to high damages, conditions, and survivability?
Where in MMo history will you ever see or hear a dagger can output high damage close to if more than a hammer, axe, greatsword, sword, mace and a shield?
None whatsoever
Well…………only in Guild Wars 2
Warrior risk their lives (without having no access to Stealth whatsoever), for battle whereas Thief having access to Stealth can walk through a full army without any risks whatsoever and still survive.
Does this sound reasonable to you?
Example; how can someone not wearing any bulletproof armor (thief) and only carrying a wooden stick, can absorb every incoming bullets and still able to walk up to his enemies and kill them with a single blow?
Seriously, who came out with this Ridiculous idea and Absurd design for this class?
In pretty much every MMO, because in most MMO you have armor OR damage. Light and Medium armor classes pretty much always deal more damage than Heavy armor classes.
And you know what? Compared to most MMO I had played warrior in GW2 is much, much closer to Thief DPS.
Then you shouldn’t choose Tequatl, one of the few places of the game when Zerker is more than suboptimal, as point of your anegdote/example.
It will be somwhat amusing if zerk gets nerfed and then everyone starts moaning that everything is taking to long to kill.
“Omg do more damage to Teq you nubs we are running out of time!!”.
Expecially because you can’t crit Tequal, so Berserker is useless against him. I would seriously laught if any berserker would call Soldier gear user “noob” at Tequal.
If only zerkers had power.
If only Zerkers could take more than one hit Tequatl or dodge everthing in this mass of people…
If we are talking about using only Zerker in dungeons because it’s “optimal” and calling everybody “noob” if they are not, you should do the same to people using Zerker at Tequatl, because it’s far from optimal. Or you are just duplicitous.

Burst is kind of useless in pve, dps rules and i havent seen a dps maximizing build where gs has a place.
Isn’t current meta sword with GS on swap for burst? (without Zealous trait of course)
No. Boons are Regeneration, Fury, Might, Vigor, Retaliation, and Protection.
Each stack counts as 1%. 25 Stacks of Might = Extra 1% (not counting what Might itself gives).
It used to be 2-3%, but apparently that was too good for Ele and got nerfed down to 1, while other classes still have 2%.
All classes got their trait working like Bountiful nerfed. Stop spreading false information.
The important thing to look at is the EHP and Effective Power. Berserker/Soldier has the highest EHP and comparatively close Effective Power. Full Knight’s has the lowest Effective Power and second lowest EHP. Knight/Berserker mix has the highest Effective Power and the lowest EHP.
You are forgetting importance of crit chace for guardian “on crit” effects. We have many of them.
Edited to add: Your higher base power with a full Power-Primary gear set means you get a bigger benefit from the Fury boon as well, by the way. The damage difference with Fury active changes in the above scenario to a meager 4.5%.
Someone who is asking what gear to get probably doesn’t have organised and optimised party for perma fury stacking.
For armor upgrades, I notice that the builds you link all have rubies instead of runes. Is that widely considered “best”? I see a lot of superior runes that look pretty good on paper.
Rubies are second best DPS upgrade for armor, after Scholar runes (if you can stay over 90% Health for at least 24% of fight).
Personally for starting DPS gear I would go with Knight/Berserker weapon, Knight armor with Beryls and Berserker trinkets.
For switching gear: chest, helm and pants have worst stats → crit damage ratio, so they should be changed to Berserker as last pieces. Start with weapons, gloves, shoulders and boots.
Where would hammer 15/25/0/20/10 fall?
Well, there is also one more reason warriors are popular.
Gutts from Berserk.
I dare you to find another character representing another class which is half as awesome as that guy.
Challenge accepted.
Elementalist – Lina Inverse (Slayers)
Necromancer – Sandro (Heroes of M&M)
Mesmer – hard, illusionist are scarcely found. kitten ones even more.
Thief – Kuro Shinigami (Darker than Black), Shiki Tohno (Tsukihime) , Shiki Ryougi (Kara no Kyoukai)
Ranger – Link (Zelda series), Hawkeye (Marvel),
Engineer – Gilgamesh Wulfenbach (Girl Genius)
Guardian – Saber (Fate/Stay Night), Michael Carpenter (Dresden Files)
Bold ones can give Guts a run for his money in kittenery ;-)
Edit: Okey, bada** should be allowed ;-)
since thieves essentially are assassin/ninja archetypes, and it will be the quickest two handed melee weapon.
What does scythe have in common with ninja or assassins? Are you sure you are not thinking about kama (which is pretty much japanese sicle)?
When it makes it in, the scythe will be a war, nec, mes weapon… that’s my prediction.
And Guardian. Cause Dervishes from GW1 ;-)
Skythe is for fast atacks .
Scythe is slow, polearm type weapon.
What is its purpose you ask? Guardians thick of skull and dim of wit will proclaim that it is for burst damage, unable to understand that even though the final number looks large on a training dummy, it is actually less damage per second than our sword 1 auto attack sequence.
This is not true, as GuanglaiKangyi explains in this post:

Just like in topic title – is there any way to use different race character voice? I would really like to use female Asura voice acting on my female human character.
Important thing to take into consideration is also the fact that Asuras and Charrs female characters use male armor models. And male/female armor models can often be very different (I would kill to be able to use Vigil male heavy chest and pauldrons on female Norn).

I have a question about Signet of Illusions post patch – is this 50% of old HP boost… or 50% to new HP boost (I mean, after new HP base)?
Cause if second is true, we have now with SoI:
Increased the phantasm base hit points by 55% in PvP and WvW = 232,5% old HP against 300% with old SoI
Increased the phantasm base hit points by 270% in PvE = 555% old HP against 300% with old SoI
Decreased the clone base hit points by 25% in PvP and WvW = 112,5% old HP against 300% with old SoI
Increased the clone base hit points by 28% in PvE. = 192% old HP against 300% with old SoI
So we have tremendous Phantasm HP boost in PvE.
