I personally would go with Zeal233/Radiance233/Valor222 (or 212 of you use Shield, which is nice in open world) with some Meditations (Smite Conditions, Contemplation of Purity, Judge’s Intervention – what do you like) and Save Yourself for burst. Heal is Shelter, Elite is Renewed Focus. Runes are Traveler for speed or Strength for easily uptimed increased damage. For equipment – use Berserker with some Soldiers (I use Soldier Rings and Accessories in Open World, they don’t cost me much damage and I have 15k life and 3k Armour with them and traited Shield).
Later you exchange Zeal for Dragonhunter 223.

Playstyle is: blink to enemy with Sword 2, activate Save Yourself! if want to kill it instantly/veteran, spam Sword1. If you get into tough spot you have block on focus/aegis on shield, blind on focus/knockback on shield, block on heal, invulnerability&virtue recharge on elite, heals on Meditations, heal on F2, three condition removal (traited heal skill, Smite Conditions, Contemplation of Purity) two of which are also nice burst damage… And for range engagements you have Scepter of course.

I love this build in open world, you have tons of survivability and you burst everything down very fast.

Revenant haven’t gotten a single elite spec that functions underwater yet, so I’d say it’s possible Engie is the same… But maybe not, there is an ever decreasing level of care and energy put into some of the elite specs.

No, they just completely forgot that underwater combat exist. Like really, in the beta there were no underwater ANYTHING for Revenant and answer to questions about that on forum can be summarised as “ups, kitten”.

Mesmers were godly in PVE during Gw1

This is objectively not true. Mesmers were for long time pretty weak in PvE, with Rangers being better interrupters. Tons of their skills were pretty useless in PvE, where you had tons of enemies at the same time (hard to interrupt all of them), enemies had higher Energy regen (so no energy denial to stop skills) etc.

Then came in PvE (and human player at the same time) only skills, which changed Mesmers into very good defence ignoring AoE nukers. There is a reason why Cry of Pain was on every human Mesmer bar. This however wasn’t the favourite role most Mesmers wanted.

Mesmers got really good in PvE only in the final years of GW1, after BIG patches and rebalances – however, some people still argue that it was better to run Heroes (AI Companions) as Mesmers than to be one yourself, as you could have extremely powerful passive human player only defensive skills on melee classes, while AI had no big lag problems and inhuman reflexes for interrupts/denial.

Lore of magic in GW is much different than in D&D, arcane energy is just a part of magic, not base for all magic.

Colours purple, violet and pink were always associated with Mesmer magic. On Elementalist you have some small arcane effects, but they are mostly build around releasing pure energy (and they are mostly based on Energy Storage skills from first game).

I can go around as well and tell people that they’ve no clue about what they’re talking and feel superior, without making any argument. What you’re doing is not discussing but making arrogant statements.

So or another arrogant statement: there is no chance to get shapeshifter that works on the way you are describing, because it just doesn’t work and is terribly balanced.

There is a chance to get one that will work kinda similar to kits/transformation elites, with another set of skills for each form. The amount of forms will be much more limited, because they will need to balance them correctly.
However, looking at amount of skills that Weaver was given in this expansion, there is a chance for class with 3-6 additional forms.

Have you never heard of the Irish Shillelagh? Or even a Quarterstaff? You can really kitten someone up fighting with a staff. Daredevil’s staff was great. Spears are nothing more than a staff with a blade on the end, and the blade is completely optional to ruining someone’s day, simply from the physical force magnified over the weapon’s length and focused on the tip.

Or Bo staffs. There is a reason they are parts of most eastern martial arts training.

Warriors and Daggers

Daerian.6523

It really depends on times. Please remember these things were in use in many cultures and though long human history. In times with less armoured foes, swords were often main weapon.

In late middle ages, sword an dagger were both sidearms in big combat scenarios, with main knight weapon being polearm (lance for example), axe or mace, as you needed to somehow damage enemy in plate armour. Swords were then more of status symbol and main weapon in fight with less armoured foes. This also includes katanas btw ;-)

Daggers were more specialised and backup weapon, used in close quarters or crowd. There were many dagger types, misericorde or Nepal khukri are extremely different weapons.

And at the end – don’t look don’t down daggers. For example, in axe duels daggers were often most scary weapon, because to swing axe you had to put your arm up… which made if perfect to stab your unarmored armpit with dagger. And well, there is such thing as axillary artery.

D&D 3.5 Bards managed it fine.

3,5 Bards had unique skills/spells and tremendously powerful elite specs. They were also the best ones at being party faces.

Also, if you combined Bards with Crusader or Warblade you got melee monster better than Fighters and Paladins together with tremendous AoE damage support.

I don’t see any of these happening for Engineer.

Hardcore mode borrows ideas from rogue-lite games, introducing tension, a high chance of failure, .

7. You cannot explore maps until the personal story has directed you to them.

This two statements seem to be in direct opposition – rogue-like games are usually about doing whatever you want and going whenever you want, being more sandboxy than any other sandbox game (maybe except Minecraft). NetHack (probably best known rogue-like) is even known for “dev team thinks of everything”, allowing player to try almost everything.

Maceless, Torchless PvE Builds?

in Guardian

Daerian.6523

It’s about fantasy. […]

In fantasy most paladin-like archetypes usually use swords, two-handed swords and… yes, exactly, maces. Usually full iron crafted ones (morgenstern mostly).

Something humanoid, advanced and powerful? Large swords (or hammer) — stuff that has a definite shape and has to be crafted

I’m going to just leave it here ;-)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6c/Various_Indo-Persian_maces.jpg <- totally barbaric weapon ;-)
On different note, correct use of https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/Klassischer-Flegel.jpg required much more skill than using sword.

I can understand why you prefer sword in game to mace, but you really can just say it without writing paragraphs about “barbaric maces”.

Hammer is not, it is a dynamic powerful weapon of a definite shape. A mace is a boulder on a stick to smash things with

Mace is bulky, ugly, barbaric and turns a guardian into some dumb tanky Hulk

Yea, totally. Except that historically mace or one handed warhammer is main close range weapon of every friggin knight (well, some used axes instead), while two handed hammers were rarely used (and when similar weapons were used, it was by the infantry). You have that exactly backwards.
And no, swords were not primary weapon used for killing. They were more status symbol.

Do Troll Guilds exist? (Teq)

Daerian.6523

And in case anyone is interested – I believe it’s a big multi-server guild but I reckon I can’t name names in forum.

Pretty sure I know what guild you mean. I have run into them many times before, they are doing it for months (if it’s them). As soon as I see them, I change map.

Possible explanation: guild plans to host, but the map fills out with “outsiders” before all the guild members arrive. So, everyone leaves for a new map where they can all fit?

If this is that guild, they are unable to really do Teq fully correctly with guild members and they need pugs. Fist time I saw them, they were “organising” TEQ, but have forgotten to provide turreters while yelling at anyone who tried to organise map. My guild master nicely asked them if they have turreters on whisper and didn’t get any answer, but then they suddenly started to ask about them in map chat ;-)
This trend continues to this day – they arrive, demand everyone to untag and stop talking, as they are “organising” map just by being there. Then they proceed to yell at anyone who tries to organise or anyone who tags, demand that others do not spawn other guild banners, etc.
And then if anyone doesn’t comply (like tell people what should be done, because they don’t), they leave in last minute leaving disorganised map.

To summarise – when you see them in map chat, I really advise you to change map.

“Indoctrination” from a certain other series also worked this way, being subtle at first, allowing for the victim to pass off as normal to begin with, but then change on the inside as time went on, passing as just fine one moment only to betray their friends/allies the next.

Nice to see not being the only one seeing pararels here ;-)
But I personaly think more along the lines of Prothean beacon on Eden Prime. Expecially with ending dialogue options being among the lines of “We must warn all leaders and make them work together. They will have to see the reason” and… “I (must) have to go”
I personally think that this was fully planed shout-out.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Daerian.6523

Daerian.6523

Let me sum this situation up.
I love alts. I always have too many characters in MMO to really gear them properly. In GW2 I have 9 level 80 characters – every profession on level 80, and I made second warrior as I didn’t really like my first. All in full exotics, with my main characters getting close to full ascended. This should show that I really like making and leveling alts.
I have 2 more characters, one is level 33 engineer made before patch and second is made after patch Guardian. I waited with making her until patch to test “trait hunting”, as this idea interested me.

My opinions after patch? I really wish I had made her before patch. Trait hunting is absurdly badly designed (Frostgorge Sound for adept trait is best example) and costs are absurd (28 gold and 260 skill points for full unlock – seriously?). I wanted to buy one more slot to make third guardian – Charr, but now I’m certainly not going to – just making this one actual Guardian alt in new system will so big chore to do, that I will probably never make new character again. And because this system so bad that it makes me – person with severe altitis ;-) – bored and burned out enought to not make next alt, I’m pretty sure many new players will not make more than one, max two characters at all.
Which probably wouldn’t be a problem for Anet, except one thing in Gemshop is additional character slot for more than 5 characters. Which will probably be used FAR less now than before patch.

Unless someone at Anet will see this problem and decrease unused free slots for every account to two as new, perfectly intelligent and wise, business decision.

This is one of those instances where you must have missed it. We did put some in. You may have even seen it and not realized that it was different from what others were getting.

One way to ensure you’re getting the full conversation is to make sure you click all the way through, including the exit. We put progress bits on the exits that will determine what future conversations with these characters will be like.

Keep your peepers open. We’ll definitely be doing more with Taimi and the asuran PCs having special moments.

Thanks for answer, but I have a question – were there any special dialogue option for race in last instalament of LS? Because we were actively looking for them in my guild, checking for it with asura, human and charr characters and didn’t find any.

First of all, let me talk about a thing call Common Sense. Common Sense tells us that there are no way a wooden stick(daggers) can hit more damage than a metal rod(hammer, great sword, sword, axe). I end will end this part here because you intentionally refuse to understand me.

By your own logic, fire hot enought to melt steel and giant rocks from space should insta kill anyone hit by them. This is common sense. And this is why we don’t use common sense for game balance.
Unless you want t be one shoted by all elementalist from 1200 range. Oh wait, such range is too small for magic, this is common sense. There is no reason for giant rocks from space to hit only from such small range.

Also you are totally incorrect about Ragnarok Online, Assasin Class and Guild Wars Assassin doing more damage than Warrior Class. Again, good effort.

Yup, totally. Only one of the greatest points of Reneval in Ragnarock was nerfing Assasin Cross Deadly Poison damage to stop them from dominating WoE and PvP. But what could I say… i just played this game for 6 or 7 years.
On another note, I really love how empty fists or iron knucles of Monk deal even more damage than any Knight or Assasin blade. Common sense fails~

Secondly, this is my Favorite one… thief having less Survivability than a warrior and a Guardian??? Oh my!!

We are extremely sorry that you can’t play your warrior or guardian right. With little more experience in play you will be able to do it, don;t be discouraged ;-)

Thief have 17 high output damages traits in their trait line, why not put them at the top place?

We all welcome 30/30/30/30/30/30 builds with 10 additional Major Traits Slots and 4 weapon slots. To not talk about fact that % Traits alone don’t make DPS build, but good synergy between them and class skills.
And I’m pretty sure you have never seen perma Lava Font or Lightning Hammer Elementalist, cause then you would be here crying about their damage, not Thieves.

And your list of Guardian’s “DPS Traits” shows perfectly how do you not know anything about this class, missing on all extremely important minors or vulnerability on blind.
