Surviving with shatter spec in PvP

After all the negative feedback on the uselessness current PU/Condi fotm spec (staff/sw+torch) , I tried to go back to my original zerk/shatter (gs/sw+sw). Thing is: how do we (and did I) survive with that spec? F4 is only once in a while, decoy/blink/sword2 can only take me that far, and when fighting a point with a necro and an engineer every square inch means death.

Honestly I think it was better for the team when I could ‘entertain’ 3 ennemy for 2+ minutes while they were capping other points, even if we lose the one I defend, than the instant stun/death/somanycondiiiis that I eat with shatter.

Sure in team fight shatter numbers are flying, and 1v1 is ok (but no way as much as PU/Condi level), but is it really worth it for an average SoloQ-level player ?

Distance increases response time, no way around it (limited by speed of light). 10,000 miles does make a difference. Plus longer distance usually means more in-between devices (routers, switches, optical switches), which all introduce some delay too.

Plus that means using the transatlantic fibers which are in high demand, and increases the chances of packets being queued somewhere, introducing jitter. This would translate in game into lag spikes (you know, that dodge roll on kill shot).

Yes, in some cases, mainly if the devices between you and your local server, are overused then you may get better speed using the remote one, but as a general rule, we’re better with local servers.

If GW2 goes esport one day finals, qualification will be local and finals will be played on LAN anyway. Like all sports (real or e-).
