I have two level 80 characters, both fully geared, both ready to go. These characters are the result of playing about 2 hours a day on average since release. I have been very happy with having multiple characters because it keeps things fresh for me. I was even already planning out my third character as I was beginning to stockpile gold again.
I like to keep it fresh in dungeon groups. I play all eight classes in spvp. I swap it up in wvw.
Then I found out that fractal level is character bound. Why?
I only have 2-3 hours of gametime a night. And since GW2 released it has gotten the lion’s share of that time. Now I am forced to split progress between my characters. With only 80-100 hours needed to 100% a character this new mechanic is introducing a 1-1.5 hour sink PER fractal level. With a minimum of 10 levels necessary that’s almost an entire week in my time just to get one character to fractal 10 (of a potentially much higher count.)
If there are 30 fractal levels (as some have theorized) that is almost enough time to achieve full 100% map completion! Nevermind how fatiguing it would be to grind the fractal levels on the exact same set of dungeons over and over.
What happens if I do get a third character? How about a fourth?
That’s a whole week to three weeks of not playing with my friend on all but my most developed character. No more mixing it up in dungeons. No more variety. And I’d be leaving them hanging too. Now they have to find a fill in.
ANet go back to “play the account not the character.”
This is incredibly unfun. I do not want a “fractals main.” I want to play my account.
The availability of certain stat combinations is far below the availability of others. In some cases there is zero availability through what should be normal means to progress your character in your desired stat archetype.
This causes some playstyles to be unnecessarily more expensive than others to gear for. Or even worse, with the introduction of Fractals and ascended gear, there are seemingly no options for these stat sets at all. These comparisons will be for Exotic/better.
Let’s compare Exotic Berserker’s gear vs Cleric gear.
Known world drops:
Berserker: ~5 Drop Types per slot/weight
Cleric: ~3 Drop Types per slot/weight
Dungeon Availability (for tokens):
Berserker: 3 Dungeons
Cleric: 0 Dungeons
Fractal Availability (Backslot/Known Ascended Items):
Berserker: Available in back/rings (3 slots)
Cleric: Unavailable in back/rings (0 slots)
While leveling a character as a cleric archetype you have:
1. Fewer options from drops while leveling.
2. No incentive for running dungeons as the tokens can not benefit your chosen playstyle.
3. Ultimately forced to purchase your level 80 exotics, which are poorly supplied due to no dungeon items meaning you compete more for the same supply.
4. No reward for doing Fractals as your entire stat archetype has been left inexplicably unitemized.
These imbalances also exist for the new stat set Apothecary, and when looked at across the board always favor “raw dps” over any other type of playstyle. Support and control always lose to DPS.
I suggest removing some of the repetition in dungeon sets (Berserker’s and Knights gear should not be available in triplicate or greater) and bringing in all of the unavailable stat sets (cleric and apothecary as well as any other missing.) You may even want to swap the bizarre Healing/Vitality/Precision set out, as it is not a “legitimate” stat set by crafting or SPVP and may have been intended to be the real healing set(s) of cleric or apothecary.
Additionally I suggest immediately hot fixing in cleric and apothecary (and any other missing) stat set items of Ascended quality. This shouldn’t even be negotiable, this is correcting negligence. It may even have the bonus of tempting other players to try support/control roles.
I was willing to suck it up and pay the extra fee to play how I wanted before. But I am not willing to see my playstyle be marginalized and deitemized for absolutely no reason. Please Anet, bring balance to stat sets and fix dungeons and fractals for support players.
Why is it not possible to get either of these stats on a dungeon set? There are multiple copies of Knight’s and Berserker’s but absolutely no support for these two stat sets AT ALL.
It is not fun that I have to buy all of my armor and accessories to play support while I have 10 stacks of AC tokens alone. My friends have bought multiple DPS sets for multiple characters and all I have is negative bank space.
I am sort of reposting this to move it into the suggestions thread. Sorry if that is a no-no, the other topic is dead.
Is there any chance that we could have some of the devs sit down and write some simple roadmaps on some of the things they’re working for on each class? Areas that the devs feel a class may be underperforming or overperforming in, making some general statements about their plans for the future. Such as “we want to investigate guardian condition damage builds to improve condition variety” or “we want to to address necromancer trait trees to improve cohesion and appeal.”
I know that class design is a fluid concept, and will change as players and devs discover new things, but at the same time we left beta with the devs having commented on a number of different topics (for example mesmer and thief needing love, ranger utility skills being subpar) and more. Are those projects complete? Ongoing? Canceled because they reconsidered?
Changes were made between then and release, but there is still a lot to be curious about. A lot of people I know in the game, myself included, have been stuck waffling between different classes because while the concept may be there the execution is clunky or the numbers are simply blown away by another class doing the same thing.
For example, the flamethrower was long lamented as a subpar kit for engineer. This was recently addressed in a patch, to the tremendous joy of a friend of mine who only days ago was considering rerolling due to disappointment.
Please Anet, let us know what some of your (general) plans for the near future are. Help make us all happy about our choices, or at least educate us on what is on your radar.
Just found this while taking screenshots for a friend who was thinking of getting the game and wanted to know how the “funny little people fight” in armor with big weapons.
So I rolled a female Asura guardian and used the Staff 4 skill. She hopped up on the staff and did a little dance. I was flabbergasted, but it may be something Asura fans might enjoy, so I thought I’d mention it just in case it is limited to one or two skills.
Amos, you make it sound like this kind of information shouldn’t be organized and known already in Anet’s office. The odds of them not having a whiteboard if not something more grandiose tracking class concerns are almost none. Even an intern can type something up off a white board.
