I was away from GW2 for a while, came back yesterday to check it out if it improved, and lucky me, I got some nice sPvP matches that were actually quite fun and entertaining!
I also noticed that none of them had Mesmers on either team, but I didn’t think much of it.
Today I hopped on again, but this time I wasn’t so lucky. Mesmers everywhere again, and the game wasn’t entertaining anymore.
Oh well, “qq more”, “l2p”, whatever. Just providing some feedback.
For comparison, GW1 mesmers also have the role of frustrating your opponent, but they did so in a much more in-game way. GW2 mesmers frustrate me in a way that just makes me want to press alt+f4.

It’s a bit sad because GW1 PvP was so good. Probably the best MMO-style pvp I ever played.
GW2 isn’t bad, but it’s pretty far from the quality of GW1.
Nonetheless, it has a lot of room for improvement and it could one day also be a great PVP…. the thing is, ANet is not making me hopeful that this will ever happen. They don’t seem to address issues that need addressing, and they seem a bit afraid to make drastic changes that, perhaps, the system might need.
And people complaining that SPVP doesn’t use your PvE gear is completely missing the point of Guild Wars.
I reached a similar epiphany, OP.
But mine wasn’t regarding Bunker Guardians, it was regarding matches with too many Mesmers.
I just leave. Seriously, this game is so much more fun without Mesmers.

Awn, only 999 screenshots and I already need to create a new folder?
It’ll have to be a monthly folder…
… I need to tear away the PrintScreen key from my keyboard. I really do.
You’re not alone in wanting more PvP modes.
Conquest is… probably not the most popular game-type around. It does have some merits, but many feel that it shouldn’t be the only available mode.
Personally, I’d like to simply get a 5v5 deathmatch with no respawning.
I just wish we could get something more akin to GW1 PVP.
Not talking directly to you, OP, but I wonder if people those days read anything about a game before purchasing it. You know, at least the main selling points.
Anyway, to answer the opening post question in a less condensing and more educated way: yes, the current “endgame” will turn quite a few people away. People for whom Guild Wars 2 was never meant for. And this is not some silly elitism or anything like that, I’m just saying that Guild Wars 2 has a certain specific target audience. And it’s the same for any single game, really, no game truly even tries to appease everyone.
So, people that have more fun with gear treadmills and constantly becoming more and more powerful will indeed eventually quit GW2 sometime after reaching the level cap, and move on to other games that have those mechanics. I’m sure there are some nice other MMOs out there for this.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. A lot of people quit World of Warcraft (for example, it could be any other MMO) after reaching level cap because they don’t want to keep running in the gear treadmill. It’s just the same scenario: the game isn’t targeted at those people, so they play it for a while and then move on to something else.
I indeed did not try the floating and sinking skills a lot. Gotta try them out a bit more. Thanks.
I have absolutely no problem with my Elementalist (I play Staff, for whatever that might be worth), be it in PvE or PvP — as long as I’m fighting on land.
But when I need to fight underwater… I can barely do anything, really. At most I can fight a single level appropriate enemy at a time, while on land I’m always fighting multiple enemies and/or veterans. I feel like I don’t have nearly enough versatility, or perhaps I’m simply not getting used to underwater controls and targeting….
Mostly I just want to know if that’s just me, or if underwater combat as an Elementalist is indeed a bit of a pain.
Instead we have particle spam to do that. Haha. =p
Well, I can’t deny this. Visual Effects on GW2 are a bit over the top.
They are gorgeous when you’re soloing, or even when you’re in a small group. But add in just a few more players and you can’t see anything anymore.
In WOW, you don’t have to even see the enemy, only important thing is the health bar.
Many wow players (and I’m including myself there) literally didn’t see their enemies, with custom visual interfaces covering up all the middle of their screen. It’s a bit silly, indeed.
The one thing that made me realize how good GW2 was… – well, it was the same thing of GW1. Realizing I was playing for actual fun, not to keep up with the latest added most powerful items or something. In other words, the game doesn’t pressure me to keep playing – I keep playing it because I’m having fun.
Hello!
I’m looking for a friendly and active casual PvX guild on Tarnished Coast.
I play mostly at night (at GMT – 3), a few hours per day, and my time in the game is almost evenly spent between PvE and WvW.
I’m currently leveling an Elementalist, and have no intention of transferring away from Tarnished Coast – I really enjoy our community and atmosphere.
Thanks in advance!
I’m 24 years old.
Most of the people I know playing GW2 are older than me.
As much as I like some of the visual effects, I must agree.
The visual pollution is a bit high. Sometimes it’s pretty hard to actually discern information from what you’re seeing.
It’s what I really liked about Guild Wars 1, and I can enjoy once again in Guild Wars 2.
Elementalist, really like having a lot of skills.
I must agree.
As much as I’m enjoying WvWvW, I do agree that the Orbs and Outmanned buffs are pretty much reversed, resulting in the cascading one-sided battles we currently have. Strong sides only get stronger, while weaker sides get nothing to help them.
Personally, I agree with the opening post.
I was a bit surprised when I first looked at this forum, actually. People talking about Attunament Swapping as if it was some sort of skill-intensive pro-like maneuver, when actually it’s just a very basic mechanic that you’re supposed to be doing from almost the very start. And it’s an extremely fun mechanic, at least for me and probably for many other people that chose to play Elementalist.
We have twice as many weapon skills as other professions – this isn’t just a detail, it’s a core mechanic of the Elementalist and you likely aren’t playing them to their full potential if you aren’t making use of it.

I’m very happy with my Elementalist. Quite a while since I’ve played such a fun class, in any MMORPG.
Having twenty-five skills, each one of them useful in at least one right situation – and being actually expected by the game to make use of this – makes this a very rewarding and interesting class to play. I would get easily bored with a class that has few skills and don’t really need to use all of their potential.
(Tarnished Coast)
Had a blast struggling to control Bluewater and Bluelake. I’m not even minding that we’re losing, this has just been really fun and immersing.
