How to get other faction's armours?

Is there any way to get another faction’s armour besides the faction you chose?

Didn’t like the fact that I chose Vigil over Whispers because of that fact.

What and how do you get this light armour?

Specifically, the one on the right:

I was pretty disappointed that light armour doesn’t have great variation (no straight-up pants, very robey looking, pants with stuff attached on it, quite a few sets that show off skin). Almost all sets don’t give off that classic GW1 Mesmer feel… except the one shown in the image.

This armour was frequently shown off in early promotional images so I was looking forward to it as my end-game look. I don’t know if its player-obtainable but I’ve seen the armour on a lot of NPCs and I was hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Is the necro much weaker compared to the other classes

In, PvP, I will bet you that when players start to really explore class setups (Ranger + Necro will decimate anything I guarantee you), the Necro will be one of the few on top of the rest. In a proper PvP environment, the Necro can easily apply Chill (-66& skill recharge, its like DShot but effects all used skills) and shut you down a lot of the time combined with the Ranger’s condition stacking and CC willkitten you off to all hell.

To be honest, if the game is built around entirely on gear progression and loot, then I don’t think its a good game because it just means other areas of the game are simply not good enough to enjoy. MMOs and RPGs need to get away from this to avoid the stigma around progression, otherwise, the only way for them to survive as a game is constant updates. I’d rather have one single complete solid game that will last me for many years, than a game that will only last due to constant updates.

Vanity is also not an issue. Nearly everyone on this planet is vain. Games such as TF2, LoL and GW1 prove that abusing vanity DOES sell. It doesn’t hurt the game, just the player if he/she is vain enough to care.

There is also a lot of problems with adding gear that makes you substantially stronger: it makes everyone else who doesn’t get the same gear weaker. This effects everything in the game and just as many people who like the statistics over skill model, there are just as many who hate it. Eventually, groups ask for only top-geared players only to handle dungeons and only top-geared players to tackle PvP.

Personally, I walked in with a preconception I carried over from GW1. In terms of rewarding the player with cosmetic appeal, I felt GW1 did this much better in this regard. Right now, you have to work in order to attain a basic full set of unruned exotic armour and accessories which is very much unlike GW1 where you could attain a full set of basic max stat gear that looked terrible at about half way through the game. If you wanted to look better, it was optional, on par with all armours at max level and required a lot of time and effort.

Right now, I think the token costs for the armour is far too much and at the very least the token system should work for all dungeons if the pieces costs that much. Running a single dungeon 50+ times is an extremely dull gameplay element to include in the game.

To be honest, GW2’s strongest aspect is the leveling progression from 1 to 80 but suffers quite a bit during endgame because it starts to become too much of a traditional MMO with all the grinding aspects instead of being simply a great game.

My friends and I have been running the Magg explorable route in Citadel of Fire repeatedly for some easy gold and mats. With a group of competent players that know how the dungeon works, a run can take anywhere from roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on damage output and individual survival skills. Completing the dungeon nets you 25 silver, 20 tokens (30 for the first run of the day), plus whatever loot you receive from enemies or chests. I usually make a profit of about 45 silver per run, which is nearly the same as what you’re currently making through selling materials.

I assume the ore you’re selling is mostly Mithril in bulk. Have you thought about using the Mystic Forge to transmute a stack of 250 Mithril Ore into a random amount of Orichalcum Ore? I admit it may be a bit of a gamble, but you can make a much larger profit if luck happens to be on your side.

Indeed it is Mithril in bulk. I’ve thought about transmutation from time to time since, when exotics and rare were being for extra low, I bought them and salvaged them back for ectos for crafting and selling. Now though, the market has matured so I don’t have a good money profiting method as of this moment.

I’ll try transmutation some time soon hopefully, I need the Orichalcum either way. If luck happens to be on my side, I’ll try record the percentage rate for net profit. I got couple of mates who will pretty much be down with doing CoF tonight so I’ll try that too. Thanks for the tips.

Are the fruits of your money making labour gear? If that’s so, you’re probably doing something wrong. Yes, you can make gear at 80 and it will be at the same level as any other level 80 piece, however I think the primary method of obtaining gear is through explorable mode dungeons, and karma.

There are vendors within Cursed Shore/Malchor’s/Straits that sell pieces of gear for a hefty karma fee, as well as the vendors in LA that sell armour for, again, a large sum of tokens. The gear you would really only need to buy things for is a legendary, which in and of itself is a journey…

Not to mention PvP gear.

P.S. That person isn’t 13% stronger than you, his stats = your stats, they are just allotted differently, i.e. 400precision/400 power can also be 200prec/600pow; both configs have 800 stats. The system is best explained by just looking at the PvP armour vendors in HotM.

I didn’t word the 13% properly, what I meant by that is a fully equipped exotic player is 13% stronger than a fully equipped rare player. Also, there was a reason I didn’t mention Legendaries, since they do take a lot of work and some players want some extra gratification for it besides their unique looks; the stats on legendaries hardly require considering since it is an extremely minor increase in stats.

The sets for karma are more like 15k sets and require a lot of grind to put together if you want it as soon as possible. Dungeon set token requirements are… staggering and never falls into my consideration at any point due to the sheer amount of time and effort required. This leaves us, yet again, to crafting.

Right. Let’s keep this civil.

I’m level 80 and I’m gearing up. The best places as far as I know are: Frostgorge, Cursed Shore or gathering materials. This nets me 1 to 1.5g an hour, so let’s say 1.25g.

Each piece of armour or trinket cost roughly 2.6g on average presumably.

2.6 * (6 equips + 5 trinks) = 28.6g
28.6/1.25 = 22.88 hours to get a whole set through sheer work

Am I doing something wrong? I’m not sure how else to make money in this game.

Honestly, considering this was GW2, I expected some of the best things about GW1 to transfer over and one of which is the initial “crap-looking” set with unruned maxstat gear. So consider my disappointment when there wasn’t an initial set to start you off. In fact, I played GW2 to get away from all that MMO grindiness because I thought that was entirely optional. Personally, it’s really disappointing to me that everything between levels 1 and 80 was really well done but ends up having a lot of traditional MMO qualities at 80. I hate the fact someone else is stronger than me by 13% because they have more time in their hands or absolutely love grinding gameplay.

I may just roll a toon for awhile and hope the TP costs die down to something much more manageable, you think that will happen?
