In a roundabout way… yes.
As some others have stated the new players I’ve played with seem friendly and ask a lot of questions. Which is good. =)
But sometimes I’ve noticed that map chat trolls these questions which is not very nice.
Also noticed that the questioning does not extend into the dungeons.
After a couple of annoying wipes and grumbling a player will sometimes admit to being new but did not want to say that at start because of previous kicks when admitting this. And that’s just sad.
New players is the lifeblood of an mmo and helping them, or just observing them learn, is a wonderful way to re-experience that first awe one had when starting to play and deciding to stay in a game.
And f2p brings a lot of new players.
It’s just a shame it seems they don’t always get a warm welcome. =(
If we had RP servers or RP areas then people might be more patient since they know that the other people are there to RP rather than just getting in the way of them.
This is a really good idea! =)
I can relate.
English is not my native language so it takes me a bit longer to type in it and wow do most people I’ve tried to RP with not have the patience for that.
And the bit where if you haven’t memorized aaaall of the lore, you’re an idiot.
I once was told, quite rudely, that I should RP only with other n00bs and stop wasting serious RPers time (although with more profanity in the deliverance).
When I answered that I would gladly do so and could I maybe have some directions to these new RPers? Well, more profanity.
Oh well, at least most of the people I meet in the game otherwise are friendly. =)
I think a lot of ire can be avoided if more subcategories were added to the Open World Content category.
I don’t personally sell portals. I’m a horrible platformer, I cannot with words describe how much time and how much swearing it took me to complete all JPs and badges and what not. But when I did complete a really kittene on my Mesmer I spent about 15 min in map chat offering portals figuring however bad I was at it there must be people who are worse and still want the achievement or AP points.
Now, I would never sell these portals because it feels kinda icky to me to do so. On the other hand: I’m an adult with a job and incase I was desperate for money I can buy gems and convert to gold. Not everyone has that opportunity.
Put some kind of subcategory in LFG-tool where people can sell their services and I don’t have to see them.
Let me see if I understand this…
you want chest farming, or chest farming maps, or the LFG tool, one or all, nerfed or changed…
even though… literally…
both types of people get their cake
and get to eat it too……over and over all day
…because you have to look at LFG for 15 seconds to get EXACTLY where you want to be?
Am I understanding this correctly?!
This.
I honestly don’t understand the problem OP has…
Good grief…if they’re too uninspired to come up with their own logo:
1) Don’t steal one from an mmo, quite a lot of people play them, someone will recognize it.
2) If you simply cannot resist theft, at the very least don’t do whatever they did to the logo that makes it look like it’s slightly melted or fan art drawn by a 3 year old.
I get the same feeling as when gold sellers whisper me, just a really exasperated sense of “why?”… =_=
This post brought me back to some of my first mmo experiences.
One of my favorite mmo moments was in when I and another newbie somehow through curiosity and a slight case of exploration ocd ended up splattered at the bottom of some sort of dormant volcano. We fell so far we actually changed zones.
Now in this mmo you had to drag your corpse to a special rare location for resurrection or all your stuff that was not in the bank was gone, unless a high level player had the class and mats to rezz you. As our ghosts glanced around we noticed that the mobs roaming around us were actually higher than the max player level of the game. Not good, even if we figured out how to get back the correct way, we wouldn’t be able to even scratch the mobs in our way. Corpse running not likely.
As we lay there lamenting our fate and hard earned gear I got a whisper that asked me to hold on and that they were almost there.
They?
Weeell a guild that had been raiding the area (we fell right into endgame content) saw our failed flight and decided to take a detour to help us out, a long detour.
After rezzing us (which cost their cleric valuable consumables) they buffed us till our ears glowed and informed us that unfortunately they did not have time to escort us out so would we mind stepping trough this portal (again costing veeery expensive consumables) to a major capital?
After we thanked them profusely and tried to pay them with copper coins (all we had) they lol:ed and proceeded almost encumber us to death with their money. The following days we both got mails with crafted gear, money and advice from the guild members and apparently some of their non guild friends.
This made such an impression on me that I always spend some of my playtime helping others (not only newbies). And it creates a positive domino effect I think; people who have been helped remember the feeling and in turn tend to help others.
And that helps the community well I think. =)
I’ve seen catapult and shield events go on for more than 7 minutes now, being rather upscaled most of the time because ppl keep popping in and out just o get their tag but not contributing to the progress AT ALL.
This!
So much this.
Also: getting ganked by the mobs that need to be cleared after the Vine Crawler Spawner has been destroyed because everybody is running away like possessed to have time for another event.
I feel that the timing has been rather unfortunate. =(
A lot of new low level players are being introduced to big events by this one. And it’s not a very good example because if you want the expensive items you kinda have to tag and dash away, leaping over downed players to get to next point or objective. Brrr, nope!
If you can even afford them since with all the waypointing and no loot or XP it’s a money sink. Is the thought that new players will be so frustrated they will buy gems?
My first large event was a Halloween one and it was great fun, players goofed around with each other or commiserated over the clocktower JP. Rewards was not always fanstasic but they were fun and you could with a bit of effort and time get greater ones.
I’m pretty sure that event was what made me decide to stick with GW2. =)
If this one had been my first? No thank you, bye.
It’s not the worst event EVAAARRR but the timing is very unfortunate indeed and I think it’s really important that devs listen and apply all the good advice that has been given in this thread. Because you have done and can do better than this. =)
I agree with changing the hair accessories color. I’d pay gems for that.
If impossible, at least add some more options for them in the makeover kit. Some of the accessory colors look really poor. Like a hurried ‘multiply’ layer in Photoshop.
Hair style kit/makeover kit?
You did just say you’d pay gems for that, and there is an item available for gems that does this.
In line with OP I meant as a bought feature. =)
Or possibly a cheaper kit for accessory colors only.

Aye, there’s one at Lion Arch bank whose sole mission in life seems to be to stroll up juuuuust as I press F to interact with bank.
Every.
Single.
Time.
=_=The norn guy?
To be fair… there’s a gaggle of people: villager, local, citizen, sailor, technician and so on. Male female, norn, human or asura usually. But they aaaalways cuddle up to banker so they disappear in the horde of players standing there.
I hope a chunk of Jormags blue ice hit’s them in the head!

Yes! Please and thank you!
Btw, did anyone see what does the upper left dye color? I can’t seem to find anything o_O
I can get flashes of colors on the vines, only with purples and pinks for some reason, on the preview but it doesn’t stick.
For those with visual defect on sylvari wedding dress, I discovered on my sylvari that the defect occurred only when the helm was “turned off” (disabled.) When the helm was “turned on” (enabled), the defect did not appear. Not sure if this will work with anyone else, but it’s worth checking as a possible work-around until permanently fixed.
Can confirm this workaround worked for my two sylvari characters.
Thanks! =)
