Congratulations to you for your dedication and victory over this achievement!
And huge hugs to the community for being awesome!
Well done! =)
I have the most rotten luck with getting disconnected in events with a lot of players, so I mainly join squad as a form of being able to get back to the same map I’ve been progressing in.
So you made a Wintersday achievement out of boozing. I really cannot say it amuses me in the slightest. Several of my relatives were alcoholics (past tense because they’re dead now… it’s not something that can be cured). I’ve seen what alcohol does to people and I think it’s just plain wrong to showcase the over-consumption of alcohol as something festive and desirable. Let alone in a game rated PG 12, when in many countries 12 is WAY below the legal age for alcohol consumption.
I have relatives and friends who are alcoholics, in various states of denial, and have been to the funerals of relatives whose bodies could not sustain the abuse.
Which is why I actually really like this achievement.
Because:
It points out that people do indeed use holidays as an excuse to drink, being relived that they don’t have to hide away or find other excuses to get drunk. Because it’s festive, riiight?
It takes a while (unless you have a lot of gold) so it keeps on reminding. Now that I think more about it I’d actually be offended if it were only the same amount as the candy canes. You can’t brush away alcoholism with toothpaste after all.
Until completion it locks away a desirable (for some) skin. Which if you want you have to keep drinking and keep being reminded.
I doubt this is an attempt to actually dissuade people from drinking too much real alcohol in real life. But maybe someone who is playing thinks twice before taking just one more drink and maybe make a relative or friend just a bit more sad.
These are just my thoughts, take from it what you will.
I think it’s a good achievement.

So I had been trying to continue the Ugly Wool Glider Skin mini quest for two days.
The problem was that the skritt did not spawn after killing Prototype Assistant Lennor.
Suddenly tonight I got a whisper from somebody who said they were on an ip that spawned the skritt after the kill and wondered if I wanted a taxi. As soon as I joined group and changed map the bot appeared and spawned the skritt after death. Rest of quest went smoothly.
I don’t know if you can change ip map or even really what that means but if you’re having troubles with this quest you might want to consider looking this up.
And again why is it so hard for people to whisper and ask what shoulder or chest or helm or weapon someone is wearing?
Because the majority of the time people won’t answer??
This!
I’ve asked many times about a certain piece of armor and not gotten any answer back.
I don’t think this is impoliteness but rather being afk but the question still remains unresolved.
Hmm, I’m going to have to change categories a bit by saying 50% explorer and achiever each with being social sort of baked in both. Because there are many great single player games that I can explore and achieve in (which is why I play games) but I choose to play an mmo because I love to do this with other random people.
Or possibly I guess I could say 33,3333333etc% in explorer, achiever and socializer each?
I love to figure out the game – I love equally when it goes well and when I have to try and try until I want to throw the screen out the window and then the utter joy of finally succeeding. Having something that shows I finally managed is a great reward for me even if it’s just a bit of text in achievement list. And I love this equally between doing this with friends or with random people from around the world that just met. So awesome. =)
0% interest in killer. Only reason I pvp or wvsw is if I need any of the rewards for crafting or unlocking something. (I kinda feel bad for the ones that do take it seriously and then I pop in and don’t know what I’m really doing and ruining the play for them so maybe not ’’force’’ pve:ers into these modes anet?)
Or in the case of another mmo (SWTOR) I joined some of my guild mates in various pvp endeavors because they were really funny to listen to and they wanted me to heal.
Which was great because I totally blackmailed them into being nice and honorable towards the opposing side or I would withhold my healing powahs, moahaha! On occasion they wanted me to bring a dps character and then grumbled when I got more mvps or assists or whatever those lists were on about. Tho I didn’t give one iota of a kitten if I got killed or my side lost, I was just there to be social with my unfortunately bloodthirsty friends. XD
I was exploring Queensdale one day on an alt when for no apparently reason I came across an army of snowmen roaming around.
I watched them for a while, then all of a sudden I get mail. It’s a snowman tonic and the message “You will join us!”
So I did.
I used the tonic and ran around after them for a while, freaking out other people who had no idea where all these snowmen had just come from. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you look at it) this wasn’t at a time when there were lots of new people or they might have been really freaked out.
It was good fun, and reminded me why I enjoy MMOs, you just wouldn’t get something like that in a single-player game.
I’ve laughed at this for like 10 min now. So awesome! XD
Personally I felt a bit silly doing most JPs and hard to get collectables because I’m sooo bad at platforming. But they’re there so I must do them!
I have 8 map completions so far and the first time, when I went through the zones one by one, region by region was kinda horrible. It just seemed like it dragged on and on and ooon. I do not recommend that method.
For the others and the ones I’m currently doing I usually get all the WPs, PoIs and vistas in one go. Joining events as I run about which clears some hearts. And when I’ve done that to several zones until I’m bored with that I go back to a fun zone. The fun bit can be either that I enjoy the scenery or map chat or find some random players to team up with. Or I jump on another character and clear a bit with them.
I find this way really enjoyable actually and it makes my slight case of ocd purr. XD
That being said, I do understand that it’s not for everyone, just like some can’t stand JPs or hunting for hidden items or PvP or whatever. It’s a facet of the game and not all enjoy it. So it’s too bad I can’t give away or trade the Gifts of Explorations that I have, I seriously doubt I’ll use all of them and they’re just sitting in my bank being useless (can’t trash them tho, am a hoarder as well, lol) when someone else could use it.
I just ran though Plains of Ashford to check for copper nodes.
Near Black Citadel there was not much but from mid to east I got almost a full stack.
Did not find any other kind of metal nodes on that run.
I agree completely.
I can understand if for whatever reason the glowy bits can’t be dyed but please consider making the metal bits dyeable.
My Sylvari thief wearing the Zodiac medium armor (not shoulders, gloves or boots tho because LOL) dual wielding two Apidae guns. Again, completed mostly on bust traveling so actual likeness is sporadic.
Drawn in a Papercraft journal with ballpoint pen sketch, colored with copic, letraset and posca markers.
Do we have to submit them on the Tumbler page or is posting creations on the forums enough?
Well, except that a lot of the boosts etc. are simply not available as they are account bound when they leave the gem store and when they drop.
Umm, I’ve never bought a boost from the gem store. The ones I have came from Black Lion chests that I’ve opened with keys that either dropped or were rewarded to me from gameplay.
If they make it a back item that you can hide, bring ‘em on! =)
Just please no fixed cape on an awesome looking chest-piece (I’m looking at you SW:ToR!!!).
every suggestion made by OP has been decided by the majority of the community that they’re unwelcome suggestions and tons of players would probably quit if they came around
moderators pls close thread, im sick of hearing the same suggestions every time I visit the forumsdecided by the very small handful of people that actually use the forums you mean?
and if this is a on-going topic like you say , your point is null and void
that just proves this is something people wanteither way warcraft is a dated game, so saying “go back to wow” is just plain ol kittened
and even if (which i doubt and would bet 1 mill bucks on) they added a few of these things and lost all of the people that they have had since launch , the amount of people they would gain would overshadow that amount x10
how many people play this game 200k?
another thing to consider is that when people arent happy with an MMO they just quit playing it, they dont post on the forums and give the devs a chance to hear them and fix/change things
and i never said i didnt like this game, i play it tons, it would just be nice for the rewards in the game to fit the time spent getting them
I feel it would be more correct to say it’s been decided by the vocal majority. It is true that not all, or even most, players engage in the discussions on the forums. I myself have played many mmo where I never even went into the forum section on the game unless hunting for tech support. =)
Thing is though, your opinion can’t be heard unless you speak up. It’s kinda like not voting and then being disappointed because the ’’wrong’’ politician won.
It’s true, there are a lot of post with suggestions of OPs nature so there is a demand for these things. If we take into account that not all players join in the forums there are also even more that want this. But there are even more that argue against them. So logically there must be an even larger amount of players that do not want these thing to come to pass.
It is all fine and good to make suggestions, even if they like most of these would change the core gameplay of GW2. It’s absolutely fine to agree with OP and voice that as well. But it must also be fine to argue against these suggestions, to let whoever is in charge that might see this know that this isn’t something that everybody agrees with.
Free speech gives people the right to express whatever (almost) we want, it does not give us the right to not be judged by what we express.
For example: if I would like a Bioware-ish romance plot with Braham, please and thank you, and made that suggestion as a forum topic. I would probably get a few who agreed and a lot who did not agree and let their opinion be known. Because that is not what GW2 is currently about, it’s not in the core gameplay at the moment and there are a lot of already existing games that can provide that for me.
The counter arguments to my suggestion is not an insult to me personally, the people who say I’m wrong about this are not attacking me or my freedom of speech. They’re just letting their own opinion be heard as well so developers who might read the topic sees that the people who do take time out of their lives to debate the game know what the vocal majority want.
And I honestly don’t think Anet would win money-wise in the long run if they implemented most of these changes. As others have debated: Anet makes changes to conform to new players that have left their previous mmo and want more of the same. Once they’ve gained that they will be bored again and leave.

Human Powah!
There were mmos before WoW, plenty in fact, I enjoyed several of them for many years. I abandoned them for WoW because I liked the mechanics and playstyle in WoW. They felt new and fresh to me, even if they probably were a rehash from some other games combined. Nothing new under the sun… indeed.
…
GW2 is different, you don’t have to like it but I do, as do many others.
And we are free to express that opinion too.To be fair, GW2 would gain more from following the MMOs that came before WoW then trying to follow them. They did to some degree but tried to mix the wrong aspects of post WoW MMOs into GW2.
The issue I have isn’t that GW2 is different than WoW, infact its the opposite. My issue is that GW2 used many of the same concepts as WoW and other themepark MMOs yet changed them slightly trying to be different, but in the end it makes GW2 relatively the same, and not always in a good way.
GW2 would have been much better if they stopped trying to follow the theme park mold and embraced more of the sandbox mentality.
I don’t get your last paragraph. I don’t recall saying that people don’t have the right to express their opinions. It actually seems that people who do mention changes get more flak than those who defend.
I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean. What parts have been changed slightly from WoW- era onwards that could not be applied to any concept before WoW and then slightly changed. The non-trinity? Not having a specific quest giver t return to? Total sandbox (of which there are plenty current mmo that have…)?
I haven’t played all mmos ever created, not even all of the big sellers but I have played a lot of them over the years and I feel that GW2 gives a special gameplay.
Again, WoW wasn’t all that unique considering, nor is many of the mmos compared to each other and the ones gone to history. And I’m not saying GW2 is a special unique pristine untouchable snowflake.
It’s just…if the game isn’t enough unlike well, WoW, how would adding bits that would make it more like most mmos make it ’’better’’?
Oh the last paragraph : I didn’t meant you as in you personally, I meant you as in people who read this. There are many different ways of indicating that in Swedish, none of which translates well into English filtered through my vocabulary, I’m afraid. Sorry if I caused accidental offence. )=
That being said; the fact that many more people speak against these changes to make GW2 more like other mmos surely is an indicator that the majority, at least the vocal majority, want’s the core gameplay to stay as it is? And in that case, what is wrong with liking a game for what it is now (with the possible tweaking here and there)?
I really don’t understand why people have this desire to make Guild Wars 2 just like all the other games out there.
It boggles the mind.
The problem is really that GW2 tries to be different from other MMOs yet fails to do it. They take concepts that are popular in other games, tries to change them simply to say “at least we aren’t WoW”.
While making GW2 a WoW clone would be bad, however ignoring mechanics and ideas used in other games simply because “WoW did it” is also bad. Anet is just being the hipsters of the MMO genre.
While I’ll always be grateful to WoW for becoming such a huge game that it saturated popular culture to the point where I didn’t have to give long winded explanations to people about what I enjoyed doing on my spare time. Seriously, WoW, thank you.
But the time to compare all mmos to how much it is or is not like WoW has long since past. It’s time to let that go, it’s been time for a looong while now.
Let it goo, let it gooooo… etc…
GW2 is not WoW, it’s clearly not trying to be and it’s certainly not designed to be anti-WoW. It is an mmo with it’s own identity. It has made many changes to gameplay during it’s active time and will surely continue to do so. These changes have been and will be discussed and critiqued by the players who wish to do so.
Other changes are suggested and also discussed and critiqued all the time, on these forums and other where. All is good.
But people who make suggestions that would turn GW2 into one of the already existing mmos have to understand that the vast majority of GW2s players play it because we like how different it is from the ones that are currently on the market.
Sure, there are issues and they are discussed, but the ones that mostly like how the game is now will speak up. As we should. It is not to flame. It’s to signal to developers that: ‘’No, please continue to do your thing, we like it!’’
GW2 is different, you don’t have to like it but I do, as do many others.
And we are free to express that opinion too.
GW2 is also forcing “roles”, playstyles.
I don’t think it does, the game that is, some players do however.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a couple of zerkers and they’re great fun for when I want that. They’re not meta though.
When people talk about meta builds/gear/etc they have usually made some number crunching regarding the actual numbers that exist and then calculate the best rotation/skill/build&/etc. And this goes for all games with combat in it.
What I feel is lost in most of the calculations is the individuals play style and what content is being done (PvE or PvP or Whatever).
Sure, you might call me less efficient by my non meta-playing but am I really?
If everybody learned to play the exact same way, movement, button presses, dodges, placement and other variables then yes: deviating from the meta would make me less efficient.
But that’s not really how people play (thank goodness), they play differently even in the same content. Now meta-zerking through a dungeon may go fast if everybody is on the same page. Usually they’re not unless you started or joined a meta/zerker/AP-group. And you get wipes and downs and whatnot. Now run the same dungeon with a player that focuses on conditions and one that has crowd control utilities and hey yet another throws some buffing stuff into the mix. Wanna bet on who clears the dungeon more ’’efficiently’’?
And that example is just for PuG-dungeons.
There’s a reason I have a plethora of alts with various builds/skills/gear/etc. I use them for different things or how I feel that day. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet? Hmm, maybe not play my dagger elementalist yet then. XD
tl:dr:The game does not force me to pick and stick with a particular playstyle, quite the contrary, but other players that may have forgotten that there’s a person behind the avatar that is not the same might try to argue the point. And bless them for contributing to the debate but I know better because I’ve experienced it for myself.
I actually agree with every point and I know many people who see it the same way.
Sadly the GW2 community is horrible when it comes to suggestions and criticism. The first reaction is always “Hell no, GW2 is different, if you don’t like it why don’t you play another game”.
Why do you think people suggest something? Not because they don’t like the game.
If I wouldn’t like the game, I wouldn’t even take the effort and suggest anything.Just because GW2 is different, it doesn’t make it better. There are many things which could be changed without anyone even complaining if A-net would do so. But just by suggesting anything people already go 180° rage mode and flame you for even saying something.
Let me ask you this:
Do you really like the game to 100% without exceptions and agree on everything A-net does?
The thing is, I feel, not that the community is against changes.
These forums are full of suggestions and critique to the game. An those threads are in turn agreed or critiqued on.
The thing is, there are already mmos that have all that the OP wants, many many of them in fact. There are, however, not any mmos that plays like GW2 that I know of at least.
When a post with suggestions that will change the core gameplay of GW2 show up, should players then not respond to it?
What is happening in this thread is not flaming and rage, it’s counter-arguments to a suggestion.
If players don’t debate things, which is what a forum is for, how will developers know what the players want?
Just as OP has the right to express dissatisfaction with the game as it currently is, other players has the right to agree or disagree without being called flamers.
Oh yeah, boosters would be a good thing to give away to a friend in need. =)
Hey we’ve played the same games! =)
The reason I tried out and stayed with GW2 is actually because it’s not like any of the other mmo I’ve tried.
And also it’s sooo pretty.
Some of the reasons I stay are what you have listed as a negative experience for you.
I love the fact that I can get the ’’best’’ gear on my own terms, spending my time and my effort as I choose and not after a raid schedule that does not match my work schedule. No minus DKP here. =)
For me the effort of dungeons (and in other games the raids) is the fun part, the loot is a sweet bonus sure, but it’s the combined efforts and stubbornness of random people (ghawd, I love PuGs) finally succeeding that is the actual point for me. And GW2 provides that.
I’ve always had a soft spot for mounts and maybe a vanity item, like minis but ya sit on them. But they’re not exactly needed. Often I run to places instead of waypointing, just for the scenery as you say, but with the right skills/traits/weapons I still go very fast. =)
I would like a bit more customizing in the UI, but all I really want there is a way for some bag items to show without having to open and look trough bags. Because I’m a hamster and so have a lot of bags and a lot of stuff in my bags. But I’d rather that come with the game instead of a addon that has to be updated all the time.
And while I looove playing healer and tank and other support I can honestly say I’m kinda relived I don’t have to in GW2. Again it feels like my time is being respected, I play my professions the way I’m most entertained by and nobody is expecting me to do otherwise. If anything I get questions on my setup by players who like what they see and want to try it out. And if a group content goes wipey-wipey too many times a quick debate among the group and a bit of shuffling of skills to cover for each other and it’s usually smooth sailing after. As for skipping dungeon content, well it’s optional, I prefer not to but at the same time it’s interesting to observe how the various mixes of professions get trough a dungeon. =)
tl;dr: GW2 is not like other mmo that I played and that’s the reason I stay with it. =)
Hmm, I think this has potential.
If not being able to trade ascended gear is possible then maybe the ability to trade the crafting materials? I know I have an abundance of account bound mats that I would gladly offer to someone that has maybe not been playing for as long as I or been focusing on other stuff in game.
Anything that promotes helping out others is a welcome addition. =)
Same thing happened here and it took a while for someone to kill me, even though several players spawned by me. XD
Whenever movement animation stops and characters glide around in standing stance and my brain supples the voice over from Leslie Nielsen in ‘Dracula: dead and loving it’ exclaiming ‘’Ant schtop dat!’’ and my character resumes running animation.
No fun screenie tho. XD
Any class – Longbow.
I’m in love with the longbow skins and was sooo happy the Guardian got it. My current favorite class with my favorite weapon = yum! =)
I’d be fine with paying a lot more gems per back skin if they were dye-able, if it’s a money making issue for Anet that is.
I change colors of armor pieces daily on at least one character and I’d enable the back armor visual a lot more if I could match it somewhat to the color theme of my characters.
And I’m not thinking about the feathered wings mainly, but the crafted backpacks and quivers and the like.
Or may be some sort of back skin makeover kit? I’d pay gems for that too, gladly. =)
C’mon, Anet, have some more of my money, won’t you? XD
Welcome home! =)
I miss my witchy dress, here displayed by my very amused engineer.
(I love that goofy grin)
I would like to play Charr characters, I like their design and how the communicate and their lore.
But the four legged run makes me motion sick. =(
>finishes chewing her broccoli<
Well, this is awkward.
Oh my god, I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time, thank you! =D
I still don’t understand whyyyy they exist in this game. Whyyyyyyy?
gold seller haxor: “Do you need extra gold for x/y/z?!?!?!”
me: “Hmm, I do actually, been meaning to get that x/y/z for a while now.”
gold seller haxor: “Go to this page that will puppy up your computer and we will steal your money, ahaahahahaaa!!!!”
me: “…or I could just click the button that says buy gems and convert them to gold…”
gold seller haxor: “Why are you bringing in logic in all of this!?”
me: Hmm? Oh sorry, I was busy with buying stuff and checking out gem store after the 15 seconds it took me to get gold and contribute to the creators of this game which I’m enjoying."
Why do they exist in this game, it makes no seeenseee…
Speaking as someone who actually has diagnosed and medicated mental health issues I have no issues with any of these color names. At all.
As someone mentioned: it supposed to fit with the Mad King theme.
While it is true that there are still a lot of areas where mental health issues are handled in a bad way I really don’t think this is one of them.
You are, however, completely in your right to have your opinion.
Very nice!
Want!
Please gief, Anet!
I like it because the skin texture has a sort of leaf print. Also, least creepy eyes.
That being said, all my sylvari have changed faces with a kit by now.
A while back I started to immediately block everyone and anyone the moment they start to troll or say something abusive. I do mean immediately. I don’t wait for them to say anything else or try to explain that it was a joke or anything. Just block when ever I see something I don’t like. Not saying or answering anything to them. It is not a perfect solution, but it works.
I do this exact thing.
I’ve even blocked players in my party when in dungeon or fractal with no negative effects whatsoever, unsurprisingly trolls/abusers/racists/etc don’t have time to discuss tactics. XD
I’ve unfortunately found that debating with people whose mission is only to spread unpleasantness never works. They don’t listen/read what you say, at most they only use the pause of you speaking/writing to think of what to say/write next. That’s not a debate but a speech with an unwilling audience. And I do not have the time for that.
With slight modification it works in real life too. =)
Ooo, yes yes, want!
Also the ability to choose how many characters to display per ‘page’.
I mainly draw In my Paperblanks journals. They’re really sturdy and pretty and I like the different textures on the papers in the various book varieties.
They’re not made for markers though as they gobble up the ink like mad, lol.
But they don’t bleed hardly anything. =)
So I’ve been drawing some GW2 fan art while riding the bus to and from work.
Thought I’d share them here. =)
Direct links to deviantart pages in case the attachment thingy has outwitted me:
Norn Powah! Caithe…ish Botched Sylvari Trio
Not on this game but on Star Wars: TOR there was a guy in my guild whose mother played with us quite actively as a healer on raids and such.
She and I also spent a lot of time together on getting datacrons (sort of a mix between jumping puzzle and lost badge but gave stat bonuses).
She hadn’t played games before, this started out as a way for her to socialize with her now adult son. It wasn’t always easy for her to get the most efficient healing on raids but we were a small “family type”-guild so some of the l33t number crunchers explained in a calm manner simple tactics for her.
At us younglings he just yelled, lol, but he respected that she was new to gaming.
As for starter class I agree the Hunter is the most forgiving, Guardian might also be a good choice (they have plenty of flash and sparkles, lol) . Maybe scout out a good newbie friendly guild for her that has TS so she’ll feel confident with playing without you and gain experiences that way.
As for personal story I think you can tag along her if she opens it. I’m pretty sure I’ve helped people on their story without being at the same place in my story. But I have a lot of alts so I don’t really remember the specifics.
I tried to rope in a friend to play GW2, the downscaling works, I just thought it was a bit annoying that I couldn’t see the quest progression and he was a bit unfocused. So In the end I created a new alt and played with him for about one starter region until he got the hang of things and then played on my current fav alt.
Human Guardian, Norn Ranger, Sylvari Mesmer, Asura Anything (they’re sooo adorable!) and I can’t play Charr since their four legged lope makes me motion sick. XD
I had serious troubles enjoying the combat in the beginning.
What helps is to abandon the thought of “mmo-combat” and instead channel your console rpg or the like combat mindset.
What helped me with the flow:
In Options, set ground targeting to “Fast with range indicator” or “Instant”.
Bind your dodge to extra mouse button if you have one, mine is by my thumb.
Once you get used to the GW2 combat system it’s really fun.
But this will create another issue: when visiting other mmos you’re likely to be asked why you’re leaping about like a deranged WoW frostmage on your scoundrel scrapper. XD
Underwater Deep Path, 7 times out of 10 there’s someone who did not say they don’t know what to do and pick all the luminous plants so rest of party dies and then get lost and eaten by piranhas. XD
Oh, and the electric staircase before Old Tom in Uncategorized, I’m sooo bad at that bit. Terrible. If I make it up top it’s by pure luck alone. =)
While I understand the reasoning behind the mail and chat suppressions it’s kinda obvious it does not work as intended.
I get waves of gold selling spam, which I report and block.
But if it was a hacked account which then get sorted out and returned to player I have now a person on my block list that have done nothing wrong.
Nice attempt at containing spam, does not work as intended, hurts community instead. Remove and rethink.
I’ve created sooo many charr only to delete them after a couple of days.
I really like the design and I love cats and my slight case of ocd wants to have at least one of each race at 80 but…
deep shameful breath
Their four legged run makes me motion sick. =(
Even on max camera distance.
It’s pitiful, I know.
Please allow an option for the two legged run to be toggled on at will.
Nooo, I like it, it helps me keep track of all my junk. XD
As for gear checking… well when I go in LFG tool and only see groups with pings or AP levels for the content I look for I simply create a group with a description like: “chillaxed run, stressed or gogo’s need not apply, we learn as we go.”
That puppy will fill up fast.
And then I usually ask “anybody done this one before?”. If somebody has, yay a guide, if not: fun times ahead. =)
Don’t worry OP, meta groups don’t want to run with us hippie snowflakes and we don’t want to run with them. All is good. =D
I still don’t support forcing specialised roles.
But nobody is being forced to do anything.
Whenever someone starts a debate with me regarding what gear/spec/weapon/pet I should have on any of my characters I thank them kindly and reply that I’m currently playing how I feel suits me best.
Sometimes other players can be quite rude and aggressive but they can’t force me to do anything I don’t want to do with my characters or my time.
The largest concern seems to be that player that do not conform to meta will be booted out of content. In any mmo I’ve played, since ye olde blocky EverQuest 1, this have never happened to me. I just find people who think, like I do, that the effort of clearing the content is the fun part. The loot is a very nice bonus but the reward is the actual cooperation and success of the group.
And judging by the concerns on these forums I see a lot of people that seem to feel the same. So I don’t worry about it. =)
