ok
so i played
wow for 8 years
everquest 1 for 7
lotro for 2
and swtor for about 4

and have tried and hated
Rift

i do however enjoy playing Gw2 BUT!!!

from playing other mmos i truly feel there are some things that need to be brought in and changed with this game for GW2 to maintain the new people playing the game, i.e. people from other mmos (warcraft for example lost 5 mill subs)

first thing, is :
WAY to many time sinks
i can understand the legendary being time consuming and thats fine
but ascended gear shouldn’t be as time consuming (for example)
i also dont like the fact that your best way of getting them is via tradeskills
imo each boss in the hardest version of the dungeons should drop something , and each world boss, make them weekly lockouts if you have to

it seems like most of the time playing the game the reward does not meet the effort

2nd thing

MOUNTS if GW2 really wants to make money add mounts, ya theres points all over the place , but i personally like riding through and enjoying the scenery instead of skipping it all by porting
this could be a huge cash cow on the market PLUS make the chests worth something and buying the keys worthwhile

3rd thing
3rd party addons

this is pretty big, damage meters and ui customization would be alot more veteran MMO player friendly and keep people playing

4th thing

more of a traditional dungeon trait for classes, ie tank, healer, dps
i know this game pushes the whole mechanic thing to its limits..but alot of new players coming from other games feel this gets old very fast
to much invis skip through trash in dungeons for example
why even have it in there if people can skip it, why not just have the 4 bosses lined up one after another?

i feel they need to do something that forces people to kill all the enemies in the dungeons ie extra chest for dungeon kill completion

Honorable mentions:

NERF Mesmer for the love of god lol
balance pvp
make boss exclusive items that have a decent drop rate (esp in upcoming raids, (pets aren’t acceptable btw))
Update store with new items monthly
post everything there is on the store 24/7 (its money you’re losing)

Cant say I agree with any of said points but I agree to dissagree.
Point 1
Game should have something to strive for legendary and in sence ascended is that, Its good that crafting are usefull in this game most others its just tacked on and you get the best gear from raids or dungeons.

P2 Mounts aint needed with the waypoint system if you want to enjoy the scenery why not walk or run?

P3 Third party addons, why would you want stuff to clutter up your screen cant you survive without said addon that say out of the fire or boss do this attack block now?

P4 alot of people play this game exatly becouse it dont force the trinity and there is a multitude of games out there that do so play one of those?

If you want to kill all monsters you are free to do so any one of them could drop a precursor for ya.

Many of your suggestions are down right no. Never. Not gonna happen. Not to mention, games are losing members with the features and ideas you want. So you want to bring those features to a different mmo, thus making it like those other mmos.

Again, no.

You can find the features you desire in other games, but not here, sorry.

Yay, let’s continue to make GW2 into even more of a WoW-clone than it’s already become! After all, isn’t that what the franchise was always intended to be? Don’t worry OP, the direction Anet is going, it’s probably only a matter of time.

Aside from that, I’d kind of like mounts. Not out of a need to be faster, of course. But if they come with their own abilities and allow us to do things we couldn’t do otherwise, it could be a good way to introduce new types of content / activities. Instead of collecting totally pointless minis, let us collect mounts that actually serve various purposes. Make a new set of Masteries for it even.

As someone who has come into this game just in the last month, but already bought it because I’ve enjoyed it so much, no just please god NO to all those suggestions. Maybe… Maybe mounts could be interesting, just because I enjoy exploring and a little speed boost would be ok – plus there are so many interesting possibilities looking at the creatures in this game, but totally unnecessary. Mostly, I’m interested in what A-net might do with the concept of mounts to make them their own, but can easily live without them.

Really just sounds like you’re bored of other games and want to make this one more like them so it feels like a fresh skin on what you’re familiar with. Really gotta say they are all horrible ideas and absolutely disagree that it would make A-net any money. It would push a lot of people, especially veterans already invested in the game, away.

this is pretty big, damage meters and ui customization would be alot more veteran MMO player friendly and keep people playing

I think I can make that suggestion somewhat better…

1st party OPTIONAL UI customization.

I understand some players enjoy the clean UI and subtle notifications for things.
But personally, I would rather have more blatant info when I’m in the middle of combat.

I would also like more detailed information about effects (boons, conditions, etc.) without having to mouse over them. The option to have countdown timers on them like skills and utilities have cooldown timers. At least put a white degrading borders around effect icons (like boons and conditions have) such as Stealth and Revealed.

Of course, I’d also love to have some kind of “cooldown icons” for trait/rune/sigil procs also.

Another thing I’d like is the option to use numerical/percentage displays for things like Endurance, Health, and Initiative.

I also love the idea I read in another thread about potential condition damage (how much damage applied conditions will do if not cleansed) grey out that amount of health on the UI.

Everything needs to be OPTIONAL, of course. I don’t want to ruin the beauty and feel for other players. But I would also love more options for my own enjoyment and effectiveness.

Suggestions to overhaul the Thief…

1st Topic:
Honestly? I think it’d be pretty kitten hard to make this game more casual than it already is, on top of that keep in mind once you make your legendary there is no need to replace it at all. This isn’t WoW or swotr where you have new gears sets with new raids, so overall you really won’t spend much time gearing characters.

2nd Topic:
I could see this being added, as long as it’s mostly cosmetic I don’t really have an issue with it at all, personally I’d probably still mostly use waypoints, but I’d rather them make money off something mostly if not completely cosmetic than anywhere else.

3rd Topic:
I think they’ve already largely made their stance clear here, they never intend to support third party software, but in general if it’s convenience rather than something that gives an advantage they don’t seem intent on going after you. Although if you break your game with it, that’s on you.

4th Topic:
The game is built around having a soft trinity of dps, support and healing, to add a WoW trinity would be to completely change how the game works, and aside from the headache of them doing it, would tick quite a few off, I don’t see it happening.

Honorable mention:
If mesmer is so OP, why are there so few on the ESL level?
Pvp will probably never be balanced, in any game ever although it’s something to stride for.
I’m okay with raid exclusives as long as it’s cosmetic. Meaning skins, this game isn’t built around a gear treadmill, that’s something you’ll need to accept. Unless they drastically change direction that will always be the case.
I’m not opposed to new items being added to the gem store, if people want to drop some money on them hopefully it’d help the game.

@ OP first and foremost thanks for making the thread, it’s good to have these discussions as we can all voice our opinions and let our voices be heard, On that note I would have to disagree with most of the options you’d like implemented except a few…

I honestly believe optional UI customization would be a welcomed addition, they developed such a beautiful game here, the art work is unlike anything I’ve seen in any mmo I’ve ever played, the lighting is superb and attention to detail is beyond expectations. That being said some of it is so clunky (Chat box & Map) that it almost doesn’t belong. I’d love to see them reworked entirely and added as an option. The first person view is a joke this most assuredly would not change the game in any shape form or manor to allow proper first person camera. Try playing any class with a longbow in first person tell me what you see.

Mounts could be a fun addition albeit unnecessary.

I’d also agree that updating what goes on the store more often would be nice, so long as it’s cosmetic only.

Can we please get a better LFG tool, GW2 is published by NCSoft so you should at least have access to Aion which has a far superior LFG tool

Ok I have the solution for making the third party add-ons work on a personal lvl so it doesn’t affect anyone else…..Post-it Notes! Just slap a few on your monitor to give you that cluttered screen effect and you can customise them whenever you want. Problem solved! :P

But no giving a more serious response, those suggestions probably wouldn’t work on GW2 only because as people have already mentioned it would make them feel too much like other MMOs.

The damage meter has been discussed in other posts and would be a good idea ONLY if it showed you your personal damage and no-one elses otherwise it encourages elitism and then we’ll end up with a rude abusive community like WoW.

Mounts would be good but we already sort of have mounts like the broom, magic carpet etc. All they need to do really is add new ‘mounts’ in that form rather than mounts that change your travel speed etc. If they added something that meant you could travel faster then it would mess with the in-game economy to a certain extent as people wouldn’t need to pay for travel.

So your suggestions to improve GW2 are basically to make it a carbon coby of the other games you played?

While that does make sense from a psychological standpoint (desire for stability, unwilligness to change) does it not srike you odd that this is your first go-to reaction?

GW2 has broken with many traditions (more with some, less with others) and that is exactly its strength, not its weakness.

whether a handful of players want or don’t want these things, they could make a-net a ton of money, and that is undeniable ..and the more money they make the more money they put into a game the more players join and stick around ect ect

Hey we’ve played the same games! =)

The reason I tried out and stayed with GW2 is actually because it’s not like any of the other mmo I’ve tried.
And also it’s sooo pretty.

Some of the reasons I stay are what you have listed as a negative experience for you.

I love the fact that I can get the ’’best’’ gear on my own terms, spending my time and my effort as I choose and not after a raid schedule that does not match my work schedule. No minus DKP here. =)
For me the effort of dungeons (and in other games the raids) is the fun part, the loot is a sweet bonus sure, but it’s the combined efforts and stubbornness of random people (ghawd, I love PuGs) finally succeeding that is the actual point for me. And GW2 provides that.

I’ve always had a soft spot for mounts and maybe a vanity item, like minis but ya sit on them. But they’re not exactly needed. Often I run to places instead of waypointing, just for the scenery as you say, but with the right skills/traits/weapons I still go very fast. =)

I would like a bit more customizing in the UI, but all I really want there is a way for some bag items to show without having to open and look trough bags. Because I’m a hamster and so have a lot of bags and a lot of stuff in my bags. But I’d rather that come with the game instead of a addon that has to be updated all the time.

And while I looove playing healer and tank and other support I can honestly say I’m kinda relived I don’t have to in GW2. Again it feels like my time is being respected, I play my professions the way I’m most entertained by and nobody is expecting me to do otherwise. If anything I get questions on my setup by players who like what they see and want to try it out. And if a group content goes wipey-wipey too many times a quick debate among the group and a bit of shuffling of skills to cover for each other and it’s usually smooth sailing after. As for skipping dungeon content, well it’s optional, I prefer not to but at the same time it’s interesting to observe how the various mixes of professions get trough a dungeon. =)

tl;dr: GW2 is not like other mmo that I played and that’s the reason I stay with it. =)

Like many who have migrated to GW2 from other MMO’s your failing to see that the things you miss are intentional points of difference and design choices designed to attract the original player base that made this game so successful in the first place.

Please don’t expect this game to conform to such banality and unoriginality. If you want a cookie-cutter MMO there are hundreds to choose from.

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

POINT 1: GEAR & Availability
You get exotic from all content (used to be max stats) and ascended from high level fractals and if you’re lucky from WvW, 2 World bosses drop their own personal ascended’s.
Ascended was introduced cause people from other MMO’s coldn’t come to grips with the simple fact you could get max tier gear for 23-30 dungeonruns or 40-60 gold.
TO help those people understand we now pay 350-500 gold for an armor and 50-60 for each weapon. which is just a small price to pay for making people feel at home.
Ascended was tmegated to keep the people busy. so it’s Time Gated.
For Legendaries If you want to outfit your main in legendaries you’ll pay 10000-25000+ gold and you’ll benefit only cause you can switch stats. Legendaries will ALWAYS be EQUAL to the highest tier gear. Legendary armor is said to be as expensive as a Legendary.

So when looking at it: Legendary isn’t a tier, it’s a Quality of Life item with a prestige skin. Ascended tier = Legendary tier in values, the only benefit from Legendaries is you can swap stats (e.g. from berserker to sinister by just being out of combat, For ascneded you pay 5 ecto, 10 heropoints and you’ll need an -exotic- inscription of the new stats…

POINT 2: Mounts
-NO-, Non, Nee, Nein, Njet….. and so on.
Just deal with the fact: Most guild wars races despise riding animals which is considered uncivilized and barbaric, Animals are used for hauling freight though. The only characters using mounts in GuildWars Lore are -evil-.

Point 3: Gear checks and DPS meters
3rd party tools interfering with ingame memory make your account eligeable for PERMABAN, DPS meters are useless and will enforce elitism on wrong grounds
Most people really really do not like this suggestion. This community had an honest LFG system where in 95-98% of the times people fully respected the LFG requests
You can ask for a Ping , and consequently kick if people do not reply please do notify people you’ll want a PING or GEAR CHECK. It also shows mistrust and many eperienced players will nott join these groups on purpose due to elitist tendencies and a resonable chance for toxic runs where everybody is shouting at everybody. IMHO most Zerk (Meta) groups already ae infested with wannabees and I prefer l80 EXP as such for realxed runs without people flipping about everything

Suggestions/translations for LFG:

  • L(vl)80 Level requirement
  • 1strun person requesting a run has no prior expereince with the path, expect you’ll be waiting for movies and the person could have below par gear….
  • Open No other requirements
  • EXP Experienced with the dungeon path, generally means you know it by heart, kicks happen if you make noob mistakes, doesn’t refer to your character or PvP)
  • ZERK Zerker (DPS builds)
  • META Optimal builds (often people use Metabattle, but it isn’t holy, most true speedrunners frown at Metabattle)
  • KILL ALL We will kill any and all mobs encountered, we will wipe the dungeon.
  • FASTRUN Skip everything not needed….
  • SPEEDRUN You know this content and we try to make a (near) record run, if you make mistakes we’ll not kick you, we’ll just leave and put you on our ban list. You will know the dungeon, raid, your character, all encounters and the respective builds and weapon needed, we will make sure to stay above 90% health at all times, If you make any mistake it’s over. No 2nd chances. Generally accepts ANY class. Cause you know how to use it to maximum effect. Switching gear/weapons and traits happens while running. No delays, no biobreaks, no movies (unless needed)…….
  • PING or GEAR CHECK Ping Gear or Kick
  • xxK AP minimum Achievement point requirement, pretty much useless…
  • AC,CM,TA,SE,CoF,CoE,HotW,Arah Dungeon references if you do not understand these do not enter EXP or META groups
  • Story Story mode dungeon
  • P1,2,3,4(up/fw/Aether) Explorable paths 1,2,3,4 (up/fw/aetherblade path for TA)
  • Full Run: All Explorable Paths of the dungeon
  • Dungeon Run: Night run: AC Full, COF 1,2,TA Fw/up,CoE Full, SE 1,3
  • Sell(ing) xGold People are selling the path, for the amount listed, either pay or be kicked, stealing the instance will get you banned if the seller has proof, if he has a recording you lose your account by interfering. the seller will not be compensated.
  • SW ??% Silverwaste Evennt map at **% completion
  • CF Silverwastes Chest Farm

Which covers most…. including your gear check…

4 The Return of The Holy Trinity?

We’ll get “real” healers which completes our 4 possiblities:

  • DPS,DOT,Buffing:
    - DAMAGE/SEC (Burst dmg),
    - DAMAGE over TIME (conditions, armor ignoring) and
    - Buffs:(Fury, Might, Banners, Vulnerability, Empower allies (includes any stat buffs))
  • CC Control:
    - Blinds, weakness, slow, stuns, dazes, fear, interupts, knockback, knockdown
    - Walls
    - Projectile blocks, block, reflects, mirror….
  • HEAL & Support
    - Healing, Regen, Lifesiphons
    - Protection, Aegis, Quickness, Alacrity, Swiftness, Stability
  • Cleansing
    - All condition removals

The obviously missing TANK doesn’t seem to exist, the highest armor ingame is around 3700-3800 armor but aggro mechanics do not allow pure tanks….. at least not at this moment. Taunt as control mechanic is only limited available… then again though the tank is impossible, tanky is possible, but with ACTIVE defence (dodging, blind, controls) tanky is useless in most if not all content and should be replaced by a lightly armored usefull build so DPS loss is minimal.

The trinity will not work due to the tank not functioning as it should in most MMO’s an the fact healing has no specific target… nor does buffing.

You’ll survive 99% of the content without heals or tanky stats anyways…. just using active defence… also you can spec defensively if you want, but you’ll lose a lot of damage:

Just make a character and make 3 armor sets,

  • Zerk, DPS
  • Celestial, Balanced
  • Nomads, Defensive….(or clerics or soldiers)
    And find out for yourself.

/ a bit more then 2 cents

I actually agree with every point and I know many people who see it the same way.
Sadly the GW2 community is horrible when it comes to suggestions and criticism.

The first reaction is always “Hell no, GW2 is different, if you don’t like it why don’t you play another game”.

Why do you think people suggest something? Not because they don’t like the game.
If I wouldn’t like the game, I wouldn’t even take the effort and suggest anything.

Just because GW2 is different, it doesn’t make it better. There are many things which could be changed without anyone even complaining if A-net would do so. But just by suggesting anything people already go 180° rage mode and flame you for even saying something.

Let me ask you this:

Do you really like the game to 100% without exceptions and agree on everything A-net does?

and the more money they make the more money they put into a game

Do you really believe that? Tell that to the WoW devs.

The more money you make, the more money you can sink into other projects to get a more diverse lineup of your games. It’s silly to have one single game in the pipe. If that fails, you fail.

Also, you cannot just throw money at a game and make it better. That usually doesn’t work so well.

You seem to come from WoW, I’ve played that, too. Didn’t like the direction and gameplay anymore. So why should I want the go into the same direction here?

I also don’t get the timesink thing. WoW even has a worse timesink. Getting a new legendary every couple of months. For the last 10 years!

edit:

Do you really like the game to 100% without exceptions and agree on everything A-net does?

Of course not, but all of them are other issues than “we want more loot faster”, “we want mounts”, “we want tank/heal/dps”, “we want addons”. It’s getting old. Now we even got raids that not a single person I play with cares about.

Let me ask you this:

Do you really like the game to 100% without exceptions and agree on everything A-net does?

No I do not. There are a few things I dislike that they’ve done and a few more that I’d like them to change. None of the OP’s points are on my list and I’d rather not see them in the game.

Many people play and spend money on GW2 because its different. If GW2 was like WoW, people would just play WoW then.

We seem to have another “suggestions to turn Gw2 more into a generic mmo” topic here. There is a lot of room for suggestions and change in this game, but not on those points.

This is what you fail to understand. Maybe you never will understand. Making something similar or the same as something else does not equal making it better. It just means you have less of one, and more of the same.

If you enjoy guild wars 2 for what it is, then there should be no reason to try to make it similar or the same to things that are already available.

The main gripe I see here is this:

- there are 5 bazillion games on the market that offer gameplay and content A (WoW, Rift, SWTOR, etc.etc.etc)
- there is 1 game or very few that offer gameplay B (Guild Wars 2)

Why would anybody think it’s a good idea to remove gameplay B and replace it with gameplay A of which there is already an ambudance for?

People suggest things all the time. There is a dumb idea born every single second. These “ideas” and topics have received multiple replies as to why that idea does not fit this community. To keep trying means one of 2 things:

- you either don’t care about your fellow players and just want to force your vision of how the game should be down other people
- you are insane (by definition of Einstein: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.)

or both.

I do agree about the trash skipping in dungeons, but it’s the quickest way to beat the content, so nobody’s going to do otherwise (path of least resistance and all that). I’m a bit surprised that wasn’t fixed – I thought that was a bug way back when (or at least not intended). It does suck if you don’t know the run and get munched on by the skipped mobs running the gauntlet, but you’ll learn where those places are.

Mounts would be nice but they’d also look out of place, since they wouldn’t be faster than walking speed. There are some in the game, but they’re not designed to get you from point a to point b quickly. They’re just cosmetic.

The Trinity I agree with. I accept the game the way it is, but that is what it’s mostly missing in my opinion – I just think encounters are designed better around a trinity setup. There will probably be a ‘soft’ trinity in the expansion, which I’m very interested in.

Damage meters are not a good idea – those work in hard trinity MMOs, but it would make this community really toxic.

The thing is, I feel, not that the community is against changes.
These forums are full of suggestions and critique to the game. An those threads are in turn agreed or critiqued on.

The thing is, there are already mmos that have all that the OP wants, many many of them in fact. There are, however, not any mmos that plays like GW2 that I know of at least.

When a post with suggestions that will change the core gameplay of GW2 show up, should players then not respond to it?
What is happening in this thread is not flaming and rage, it’s counter-arguments to a suggestion.
If players don’t debate things, which is what a forum is for, how will developers know what the players want?

Just as OP has the right to express dissatisfaction with the game as it currently is, other players has the right to agree or disagree without being called flamers.

Exactly.

Although I do not agree with a single suggestion given by the the OP, I do not think this game is 100% perfect. But then my perspective is different. GW2 was the first MMO I played. I tried WoW afterward (briefly) and I can not understand how anyone would prefer to be forced into a “trinity” role.

And please do not nerf mesmers any more. Learn to play a mesmer in order to understand how you can exploit their weaknesses, just as with any profession. Because it (the game and the memsmer profession) is different to what someone is used to and they haven’t bothered to learn about it doesn’t mean it should be changed to accommodate their limitations.

balance pvp

They keep trying to balance pvp, at the expense of other aspects of the game. One profession gets nerfed then another. It’s never going to be balanced.

Maybe they should introduce a one-on-one between the same profession and make that the only one-on-one. Only thief on thief, warrior on warrior, mesmer on mesmer. Groups would still need several professions to balance but they can stop the nerfing to get each profession balanced against each of the others. It only screws up the rest of the game.

first thing, is :
WAY to many time sinks
i can understand the legendary being time consuming and thats fine
but ascended gear shouldn’t be as time consuming (for example)
i also dont like the fact that your best way of getting them is via tradeskills
imo each boss in the hardest version of the dungeons should drop something , and each world boss, make them weekly lockouts if you have to

it seems like most of the time playing the game the reward does not meet the effort

This doesn’t make sense to me, you want to replace a timesink with another timesink. While I don’t mind the idea of unique boss drops, but ascended acquisition is fine outside of tweaks to the mats needed. Outside of leveling crafting(which everything can be bought and leveled in a hour), there really isn’t much of a timesink, unless you craft the ascended mats yourself instead of buying.

2nd thing

MOUNTS if GW2 really wants to make money add mounts, ya theres points all over the place , but i personally like riding through and enjoying the scenery instead of skipping it all by porting
this could be a huge cash cow on the market PLUS make the chests worth something and buying the keys worthwhile

This really isn’t needed and is really more of an annoyance. Professions are given speed boosts to compensate for lack of mounts, not to mention WPs everywhere eliminates the need. While I get why people may want them, but they aren’t needed in any shape or form. I still remember when flying mounts where brought into WoW, and it was cringe worthy.

Adding something simply because it is a potential cash cow is what ends up killing most MMOs nowadays.

3rd thing
3rd party addons

this is pretty big, damage meters and ui customization would be alot more veteran MMO player friendly and keep people playing

UI customization I don’t mind in regards to addons, but allowing it creates a slippery slope. One of the worst things WoW did was allow raid mods to get out of control. It made dungeons and raids so simplistic it was sickening. DPS meters while interesting only lead to trouble, always has always will. Threat meters I liked, DPS meters just caused conflicts, even when DPS meters were first added and everyone knew they were inaccurate.

Though inspect should be allowed, but that has little to do with addons, and people will still cry foul. The lack of inspect is ironic, but that’s another story.

4th thing

more of a traditional dungeon trait for classes, ie tank, healer, dps
i know this game pushes the whole mechanic thing to its limits..but alot of new players coming from other games feel this gets old very fast
to much invis skip through trash in dungeons for example
why even have it in there if people can skip it, why not just have the 4 bosses lined up one after another?

i feel they need to do something that forces people to kill all the enemies in the dungeons ie extra chest for dungeon kill completion

This is really 2 different things trinity and dungeon design.

Trinity should be added in regardless of how much people cry foul about it. However it should be done in a form that really allows all professions to perform any role(depending on build/gear). Not having the trinity mechanic and doing the current jack of all trades master of none has lead to the zerker meta and dps > all. It also limits boss fight design due to lack of structure.

Dungeon design could be done better to promote full clears over speed runs, but not really that big of a deal to worry about.

I tried WoW afterward (briefly) and I can not understand how anyone would prefer to be forced into a “trinity” role.

GW2 is also forcing “roles”, playstyles.

There are many many many builds for classes that just suck. You get the opportunity to choose any way you want to use your traits, choose the stats, use any spell you want and yet you just have a few of them that are actually useful.

I am not talking about going heal stats when you have no heal. I am talking about legitimate different playstyles.

The main part is the stupid “zerg meta”. It’s annoying. It really is.
Why can’t the game be more versatile? The only part of the game where going berserk is not the way to go is Fractal Lv50.

Ofc you can play different and still do your part, but you are not efficient. Why can’t I build up different and be efficient my way?

Looking at this, there are many utility skills on classes that just suck.

When I look at my Ele, all the elite spells are utterly garbage. Just the Flame Sword is decent but with the 3min cooldown I’d rather prefer a normal utility spell. And most people only use the Flame Sword to move faster, not to actually fight with it.

And now with the change of the Frost Bow, it’s just garbage as well. Now there is no good weapon you can spawn. Why can’t they make all of them actually worth using? Why do I have spells that basically do nothing or even make me weaker when using them?

Even though GW2 doesn’t have the normal DD/Tank/Healer lineup and playstyle, there is way less versatility in team setups than in other MMOs.

I get why people are happy that there is not the standard MMO lineup, but the way A-Net is doing it is really lackluster.

If I could actually specialize my char on something I want, because I like to, I also want to be efficient and be as useful as my other teammates. But I ain’t.

And I also don’t get why people complain about other MMOs static lineup of DD/Tank/Healer when most people I talked to play League of Legends where you are actually FORCED to play a certain way.

I really don’t understand why people have this desire to make Guild Wars 2 just like all the other games out there.

It boggles the mind.

GW2 is also forcing “roles”, playstyles.

I don’t think it does, the game that is, some players do however.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a couple of zerkers and they’re great fun for when I want that. They’re not meta though.

When people talk about meta builds/gear/etc they have usually made some number crunching regarding the actual numbers that exist and then calculate the best rotation/skill/build&/etc. And this goes for all games with combat in it.

What I feel is lost in most of the calculations is the individuals play style and what content is being done (PvE or PvP or Whatever).
Sure, you might call me less efficient by my non meta-playing but am I really?
If everybody learned to play the exact same way, movement, button presses, dodges, placement and other variables then yes: deviating from the meta would make me less efficient.
But that’s not really how people play (thank goodness), they play differently even in the same content. Now meta-zerking through a dungeon may go fast if everybody is on the same page. Usually they’re not unless you started or joined a meta/zerker/AP-group. And you get wipes and downs and whatnot. Now run the same dungeon with a player that focuses on conditions and one that has crowd control utilities and hey yet another throws some buffing stuff into the mix. Wanna bet on who clears the dungeon more ’’efficiently’’?
And that example is just for PuG-dungeons.

There’s a reason I have a plethora of alts with various builds/skills/gear/etc. I use them for different things or how I feel that day. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet? Hmm, maybe not play my dagger elementalist yet then. XD

tl:dr:The game does not force me to pick and stick with a particular playstyle, quite the contrary, but other players that may have forgotten that there’s a person behind the avatar that is not the same might try to argue the point. And bless them for contributing to the debate but I know better because I’ve experienced it for myself.

Fails to do it? I know the GW2 system isn’t perfect, but I prefer it 1000 time to any Trinity Game including WoW.

It’s a different system that is for a different crowd of players and it’s ok. I tried a lot of MMO and GW2 is the first one that I love and keep playing for more than a couple of months.

There were mmos before WoW, plenty in fact, I enjoyed several of them for many years. I abandoned them for WoW because I liked the mechanics and playstyle in WoW. They felt new and fresh to me, even if they probably were a rehash from some other games combined. Nothing new under the sun… indeed.

While I’ll always be grateful to WoW for becoming such a huge game that it saturated popular culture to the point where I didn’t have to give long winded explanations to people about what I enjoyed doing on my spare time. Seriously, WoW, thank you.
But the time to compare all mmos to how much it is or is not like WoW has long since past. It’s time to let that go, it’s been time for a looong while now.
Let it goo, let it gooooo… etc…

GW2 is not WoW, it’s clearly not trying to be and it’s certainly not designed to be anti-WoW. It is an mmo with it’s own identity. It has made many changes to gameplay during it’s active time and will surely continue to do so. These changes have been and will be discussed and critiqued by the players who wish to do so.

Other changes are suggested and also discussed and critiqued all the time, on these forums and other where. All is good.

But people who make suggestions that would turn GW2 into one of the already existing mmos have to understand that the vast majority of GW2s players play it because we like how different it is from the ones that are currently on the market.
Sure, there are issues and they are discussed, but the ones that mostly like how the game is now will speak up. As we should. It is not to flame. It’s to signal to developers that: ‘’No, please continue to do your thing, we like it!’’

GW2 is different, you don’t have to like it but I do, as do many others.
And we are free to express that opinion too.

To OP

1) You are partially right. GW2 isn’t about loot, but about gold to buy what you need/want. It’s a different system, but i prefer this system WAY more than the traditional system. What they could do is to decrease the amount of loots, but increase their value because right now we receive a lot of crap that we salvage to have decent gold/material. That way, people have the impression that they have better loots and we don’t need to salvage and sell so many craps items. As for ascended, you are right that more ways to get it are needed. Fractal and Crafting are the only real way to get them and not everybody love those two.

2) I’m a collection/customization addict so it would be great, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s not a major issue IMO.

3) More customization is always better and a company can’t make everything everbody like with customization and tools. So 3rd party addons is a good way to have it both way. Less work for the company and more customization for the consumer. But addons that help players in PvP is always a big risk.

4) Now can you just go and never come back? I’m so tired of you guys. We have a nice combat system and you are so in love with your trinity system that you can’t way to impose it in one of the very few game that doesn’t have one. If you don’t like it, there is plenty of other game, stop trying to break our toy. We love our toy. You know what’s getting old? People from other MMO that come here and try to smack their holy trinity in GW2. It’s like if I would go in Europe and said. You know what? I like this soccer thing, but wouldn’t just be better if the ball was a bit more elongated and we played with our hands?

Honorable Mention

- Mesmer : L2P. There is some specific thing that could be nerf, but overall. L2P
- Balance PvP : What do you think? That Anet never did that. They add balance patch on a fairly regular basis. Now, we are in a weird zone because they added a big patch that changed a lot of thing some months ago, but we have the expansion coming in 2-3 weeks. They seem to have decided to wait the expansion for a big balance path. But overall the game is really balance.
- Exclusive Skin : There is already some. Fractal weapons, Teq weapons, Wurm Armor, PvP Skins. And there will more PvP Legendary, Raids, Golden Fractal weapons. Yep some of them don’t have a ’’decent’’ drop rate. Teq and Wurm could drop them a bit more.
- Update store?? Right now they mostly give us old item that wasn’t on the gem store anymore, because they work mostly on the expansion. But you aware that they usually give us new item each 2 weeks? I guess you are just too new to the game.

“Hey WoW just lost 5 million subs, so how about you add all the stuff they did to GW2?” is basically what you’ve said.

I’m glad none of the things you’ve mentioned are in GW2. There’s a reason people are running from those other MMOs…
