It’s not part of “the agreement.” There’s no obligation on their end to just release living story, and I’m glad they aren’t going that route anymore.

I really don’t understand why, if we aren’t able to use spears on land, that it would be put into the trailer… maybe someday we will be able to though.

GW2 Main Content Now Obsolete?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gandalf.3516

Calling it obsolete is overly dramatic to say the least. There will always be plenty of things to do in the base game content, and we will have the expansion and eventually more living story/expansions on top of it.

Also for someone who sounds so tired of the previous content from this and other threads, you sure do seem unhappy about getting new content…if all other MMOs are something to go off of, there will always be players in new and old content. Especially with the megaservers.

Revenant the final nail in Ritualists coffin?

Gandalf.3516

There is no way to know, honestly. It is possible we could get a light weight class that is a Ritualist, or similar, if we ever go to Cantha. And even though Dervish is probably off the table we could eventually get to use a scythe again if we go to Elona. Same could be said of spears and Paragons, might come back.

LA Becomes Sylvari Internment Camp

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gandalf.3516

It’s an interesting idea, but I don’t think it would happen. And if it did, it wouldn’t be in LA or done on a strictly official level by the various governments. It’d be random people, probably xenophobic racists to begin with, who decide to grab their torch and pitchforks and round up the Sylvari.

@tekfan You’re assuming that if LA took Sylvari as prisoners simply for being Sylvari, that it would be done just by humans. However LA, and the Lionguard itself, includes many races. Even non-playable ones, and Sylvari.

@ Myxam Can’t tell if you’re serious or not, but…if you’re worried about racism in the game, hurting the community, racism (among many other serious themes) has been a common thing since, well…ever, in Guild Wars. In both games. So you really have nothing to worry about. And a large part of GW2 story is putting differences aside (such as race, and the history between them), coming to the aid of others, etc. The main races, and even lesser ones, have been working together more and more. I have no doubt that we as players will defend and help the Sylvari.

Also, them being dragon minions liberated from Mordremoth is not a new idea they got from the players. They planned it. Ventari’s tablet taught the Pale Tree, who taught the Sylvari, and they lead a peaceful way of life that was not ever intended by Mordremoth (except for the Nightmare Court).

I think it’d be interesting to see just a few armors that can only be used with certain classes, kind of like racial armor. Then we could get some really unique stuff going. Engineer could have lots of mechanical looking stuff like this.

Revenant Starting Area [Possible Spoilers]

Gandalf.3516

Here’s the problem with this idea. The only way that I can see how that would work is if Revenant started out as a level 80, and I don’t see Anet doing that. The new areas are all level 80 areas I believe, this is supposed to be really challenging stuff for us to take on as an addition to endgame sort of.

Will specialisations backfire?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

It’s like a sub class kind of. It doesn’t limit gameplay options, it expands them. [snip]

Yeah okey but in GW1 I had NINE subclassess (10-your core profession) and I could choose something usefull from them. I don’t think I will have such choice with only 1 specialisation.

As much as we don’t like to hear it, this is my answer. This isn’t GW1. It never will be. GW1 didn’t have sub-classes/specializations. GW1 had secondary classes. As in they could essentially use two classes at once, which they got rid of for GW2 and don’t plan to ever bring back. Sub-classes/specializations are entirely different things, and we will get more and more of them over time. So yes, specializations extend your options.

My disappointment about HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gandalf.3516

My ideas are more concerns than anything else. It’s hard for me to say what I think they should add when we know so LITTLE about what they’re adding already. So what I want would largely depend on whether or not the features they add feel lacking at all. So rather than saying what’s missing, I’ll list out some questions/concerns…

I am slightly concerned about how much content there is. They’re so vague, Anet likes their secrets (blaaaaaarrrrrrrgh). Is it 2, 4, 6 maps? How big are they, are they all massive or just one of them?

I’m concerned that there aren’t going to be many guild hall themes. Unless the GH instance is a tear into the mists (as a guildy suggested) making basically any environment possible, then we will all be stuck with the jungle theme. That is missing a great opportunity.

How many skills/traits do these specializations get? How many weapons will they have access to besides the new ones they get, and will those all have new weapon skills as well or will they use the same ones as their base class (possibly my biggest fear, there)?

How many options will there be in the mastery system, and of those how many can we use outside the jungle?

How many players can be on a team in stronghold? Will it be a set number (I’m all for flexibility on team sizes, giving the players some options)?

Do we get dungeons, raids, something else? If so how many?

Will we get more guild missions?

Will there be a lot more ranger pets? Even if they released new pets with basically the same stats/skills, we would still get cool new pets. Appearances are half the fun.

How many new armors/weapons will there be?

It’s like a sub class kind of. It doesn’t limit gameplay options, it expands them. And I saw an interview with Colin yesterday where he said this will be how they continue to build on the classes. So we will almost definitely see more specializations in the future. Don’t like the specialization? You can switch back to being a regular elementalist anytime. It should work pretty well.

Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gandalf.3516

Gandalf.3516

I am baffled at just how many forum posts I have seen where people are upset that there is an expansion coming…some think it should be free, and some even prefer living story. Free content, forever, isn’t very sustainable. They need something else to support their content. Some will point to gems, but a lot of people buy gems with in game gold, or just avoid gems completely. They need more to make money, and we need more content as players than what living story could provide.

Let’s assume for the moment that Anet did say they aren’t planning to ever release an expansion. That was not a promise. They didn’t lie to us. Things changed, and didn’t go how they thought it would. The vast majority of the community is not happy with living story. It has improved a LOT from the start, but it is not enough by itself. They had to change how they were doing things. And that’s just what they’ve done. And they’ve done it so smoothly and beautifully too.

Release base game > season 1 of LS (take care of serious bugs and other flaws in their LS releases, learn how to improve the LS releases) > season 2 of LS (introduce new elder dragon and story elements, setup for revenants, setup for venturing into jungle) > expansion pack that continues from and builds off of season 2.

From the sound of things (an interview I saw yesterday with Colin), this is going to be their new formula. 4:52 to 6:55 -
http://youtu.be/CIiqCW4WrFo?t=4m52s

Now THAT is unique. THAT provides a lot of content. In between expansions, we get living story. We are getting living story, AND expansions, and there is still discontent within the community? Both sides get everything they wanted and more and there are people who still aren’t happy? I really don’t understand this.

Revenant: ie - pro-necromancer

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Gandalf.3516

I am…confused as to why we would be upset over a new class. Apparently it’s true that it is impossible to please everyone. They’re giving us some pretty awesome stuff that the community has largely been wanting for a long time. Playing the revenant doesn’t somehow make necromancers useless and certainly they are not the same thing, there will continue to be plenty of people playing ALL of the classes. And with the new specializations coming, there will more than likely be a lot more people playing their old classes than the new one.

The ritualist and the necromancer definitely have different functions and have expertise in different kinds of magic (and in the ritualist’s case, not even magic as they have existed since long before the Exodus of the gods, and before magic was given to the races of Tyria). If the revenant is doing the same kind of things as a ritualist, tapping into those same powers, than it isn’t using magic either. Would a ritualist and necromancer overlap a bit? Maybe. Depends on your perspective. When I think of a necromancer, I think of fleshy constructs, curses, disease. The role of a ritualist doesn’t really fit there. Let’s say they do overlap. Then it just means that they use two different kinds of power, to in some cases do very loosely similar things, but in general very different.

Dervish and ritualist are junk classes because…what, exactly? Those were two very popular classes in GW. Junk classes don’t become popular. They both brought a lot of unique skills and playstyle, and honestly just looked cool and had a lot of interesting lore behind them (and yes, that does matter). So ya, players wanted something like that back. Those roles really have not been filled in GW2. Some things might be similar, but overall there is not much that is like them. And by the way, people playing with a scythe to look like the grim reaper is far from childish. There’s nothing wrong with that at all (and there are plenty, myself included, who loved the scythe and had no desire to look at all like the grim reaper). However, calling people childish because they like to use the scythe…how about we try and keep the insults to ourselves if we are all adults here. That’s the kind of stuff that will fan flames and ultimately get threads closed, if this one hasn’t already earned that.

Rytlock did not just jump in a mist-hole and pop out as a revenant the next day…heh, mist-hole. He’s been down there awhile. We don’t know what happened to him, what he encountered, what he’s learned. We will most likely learn more. And it’s entirely possible we might have to go and speak to him to get the class, and not just get it automatically because we own the expansion. And if not? Who cares. It’s no different than any other game getting a new class and “suddenly millions know.”

And to say that the revenants are half-gods just…I don’t get where that’s coming from. I wouldn’t call any class half-gods. And I don’t see how a revenant is anymore supernatural than a lot of the classes (though being more or less supernatural shouldn’t be somehow considered a bad thing…this is a fantasy world where magic and spirits and so on are a regular occurrence). He’s channeling the mists, and can take on properties of fallen legends (and maybe even current ones, and lore-wise you could possibly say future ones though I doubt that’ll be the case simply because as a player character, that wouldn’t work well). I don’t think any of the classes in GW1 or GW2 have ever come close to being a half-god. But let’s say some are… Necromancers in GW2 can gain death shroud (practically a second life). They can turn into a plague, and into a giant powerful lich. They can create their own personal army out of nothing more than bones and flesh (and apparently from literally anywhere in the world, there is a limitless supply of both bone and flesh for every necromancer to use). They can steal the life force and health of their enemies and though not as much as a ritualist, they do mess around with spirits. They wield curses, diseases, fear itself, and their own blood as weapons. And goodness knows what they’ll gain for their specialization. I could probably say even more about GW1 necromancers.

They didn’t do death knight. death knight is a very distinctive thing, that has correlation with WoW, and if they made a death knight then there would be a lot of people crying out with the words “ripped off.” So, they did something else. Something kinda new. The revenant. In the end this seems to come down to either “we’re not happy, we wanted the death knight” or “we’re not happy, necromancers should get all the cool spirit skills just cause.” Lighten up. Either try the new class and have fun with it, or stick with your own. The fact that it exists won’t hurt you, or the game.

Game Improvement - Suggestions

Gandalf.3516

Let me just say I absolutely love this game and GW1. Good gaming community, great game, good job Anet! Who knows if this stuff even gets read, or if I have anything useful to say, but I’ll dump it here anyways.

Magic Find Stat
I’d like to see Magic Find be somewhere on the hero panel, like all the other stats are. And have it take into account not just armor/weapon/rune/etc stats but all the other things too (Sigil Of Luck, booster, banner, food). I just think it would be a really nice thing to have.

Sharing Builds, and Inspecting Players, ahh the Turmoil!
Also, it’d be cool if, like in GW1, we could save, and share our builds easily. And maybe take it even further! Have it so we can choose how much we show. Like maybe it’ll just ping in the chat showing [John Smith’s Build], like a weapon or armor piece, and you can click it and it’ll bring up a panel showing what he uses. But we can customize what we show. So we could just show our weapon/utility skills we chose, just one or both of our weapon sets, our traits, our choice of armor/weapons, everything important to our build. But we can decide how much we show. So maybe we come up with a really cool build, but we don’t want to show some of it so that it stays unique and doesn’t end up being used by everybody and their dog. We could JUST show the skill bar. Or maybe our friend is awful at coming up with a good setup, we can easily show him everything he needs, and he can save it and refer to it as needed. Just a thought, and it sounds like a lot of work and unnecessary things that will not actually be implemented, but it sounded pretty cool in my head! However sharing builds can bring up a problem. In a way it’s similar to inspecting, and I am very much against that because there are quite a few elitist people out there, who always think they know better, and try to force more casual players to play their way, and if you don’t have this armor stat set, or they don’t like your build, etc, you could get kicked from a party for a dungeon, or berated for being a “noob”, and junk like that. So in a perfect world, I’d be all for inspecting players/sharing builds. But there can be downsides to it. So if there were to be a way to somehow prevent that behavior, which I see no way of doing other than a new option under Report Player and I’m not sure that’d be a good solution, then I’d say go for it.

An Idea to Please Many Players Who want MORE SKILLS, without Breaking the Game
Also I’d like to point out something someone said about being able to have more skills at a time on their skill bar. I don’t think that is a good idea for general use as it would really mess with things probably, however, it could be implemented as a special kind of pvp. Perhaps at the pvp game browser npc, there could be tabs on the side where you can choose another type of pvp, game modes, though it would be important not to add too many, and just have a few solid ones so that the players aren’t too spread out. Like one where players can possibly choose to add more skills on their skillbar at a time than any other part of the game, maybe quite a few more who knows. Or could add that as one of the options in the new custom spvp lobbies or whatever they were that will be added within the next 6 months.

Necromancer Minions and Ranger Pets Really Need Some Love…
Well…nuff said there.

Make The Trading Post More Efficient
I think it’d be nice to have a bunch more search options in the Trading Post. Backpieces, precursors, specific tiers of materials, possibly stat set names, and any other helpful things I’m sure there’s plenty more. One I know who many have said, previewing items in the TP. And this is also sort of it’s own category, but the TP is becoming a market for the rich man. For the casual player especially it can be difficult. I know some people who when at one point I had 30 gold (whooptydoo), were in awe because they’ve never got past 4 and a half or whatever they were at. So possibly to make less gold sinks or lessen the ones in use, or add something that makes it easier to earn gold. Not in a game-breaking-market-crashing kind of way that makes these gold hoarders even richer, but enough to make a difference for the little guy with his precious two gold saved up.

WvW Woes
Last of all, it’d be nice to have some way to even up WvW. In my server, wherever we go it seems like there’s a massive zerg from one of the other servers. They have a large presence on every map a good amount of the time. We generally don’t have nearly enough numbers (anymore) to compete with that, and the other server doesn’t either. It’d be very helpful to make the Outnumbered bonus, actually useful to competing instead of just increased experience and whatever else it does, and possibly some other ways of aiding those who are outnumbered 10 to 1.
