Seige Monkeys

Also known as simianus artillerius , these fascinating creatures sit up safe in their towers and do nothing but ping you with artillery like it’s p00, while everyone else enjoys the battle.

I had a funny experience just now where, with nothing else to do, decided to roam around the enemy-occupied Stonemist Castle looking for kills and these Monkeys were tracking me everywhere I went. Since the map was fairly dead I thought to myself, who in the world could be bothered sitting with a cannon just in case an enemy happened to come past? Turns out there’s a whole other genus of WvW pvpers out there.

So I go over and take out the cannon, only to discover there were a few arrow carts and also a treb hidden behind the battlements. It took a while, but I take them out, snagging a few kills with Scorpion Wire while I’m there. I felt a bit bad, cause I actually like animals, but seriously, I still can’t figure out who in their right mind would gain any sort of satisfaction working artillery all afternoon. I thought bots, but then this one monkey kept running between a ballista and an arrowcart depending on my position, so we’re talking human players for the most part.

At first (before I killed them one by one) there were at least four of the little buggers working away up there. They didn’t try to jump me as a group, but hung around stupidly while I chipped away at their seige.

Have you experienced these odd creatures?

I can not nor will not speak for all the creatures… but as for me…

I am a siege monkey sometimes because I enjoy using siege equipment….. Because I am too slow as a Player to stop your over-the-top thief sneak and backstab abilities down on the ground ….because my internet connection stinks bad enough that I accomplish more for my world when using siege equipment….. because I love overkill from high places…

… because I am not level 80, so it makes more sense to run a siege engine than to give the enemy easy kills…. and loot….

lots of reasons. Hope that helped.

Lack of heavy armored classes

Heavy Armor Cleric. Primary role healer, low damage, heavy armor, and CC… not a Paladin mind you… a Cleric. Think DAoC Albion healer class.

Ugh how I hate everyone that made the Cleric into the healing wussy it is today, as opposed to the overpowered engine of destruction from the D&D days.

I agree with the poster that asked what we’re really missing though, due to the lack of the trinity system it’s hard to think of any archetypes that do not fit in with any of the current classes somehow, yet can be designed into a non-trinity type class.

Well I played AD&D, but I do not recall Clerics being overpowered engines of destruction. Maybe a difference in DMs. Maybe just me forgetting… that was so long ago.

I had much experience with DAoC’s Cleric class, both as a Player, and as a … “receiver” of their “blessings” lol. If played correctly they were not wimpy at all, hence why I suggested them. A heavy armor class needs to be able to take the punishment.

And if I may say this… GW2 is not missing the trinity system, just one part of it. Just trying to honest here.

Contested Waypoints: Detrimental to the Game?

Contested Waypoints? A problem for me?

Hardly. It’s one of the features that make this game so fun for me. A pain? Sometimes… but War is always a pain and we play a game of War. Kind of fits as far as I see it.

Some Players say some contested waypoints give no reward… I counter that with this: all contested waypoints give some XP as long as you actively participate (ask the bots, that seems to be how they gain levels.). All give experience running your character and learning your class. Almost all have at least trash loot. I wouldn’t call that “no reward”.

Lack of heavy armored classes

What heavy armor role are we missing? Really, what arch type are we lacking that isn’t expressed in the classes we already have? I mean, I miss my paragon for being a paragon, but Guardian fills that kind of role…. Paladin…. guardian…. Berserker…. warrior…. Soldier… warrior…. Just don’t know what we would need that we don’t have in heavy armor already.

Heavy Armor Cleric. Primary role healer, low damage, heavy armor, and CC… not a Paladin mind you… a Cleric. Think DAoC Albion healer class.

granted not a usual class for GW, but the White Mantle did set the example (it sure seemed they were heavy armored to me) and it would not be far fetched to see it in GW2.

As much as I would want to play this, I would not want to see this in GW2… it would tip the whole class system on it’s ear.

Repair your Armor in WvW Really ?!

in WvW

Armor repair costs seem too high to me, especially for how often some of us die. Some of us die far too often because of invisible enemies and because our server has such a low population in WvW that it’s like a squad (us) going up against a battlion(them). We are basically fighting a losing battle every day (server Devona’s Rest). In our situation we do pay too much for armor repairs and because we are the low pop server that will probably always be the case.

If my repair costs are high because I am terrible at fighting in WvW then that’s my fault. I won’t ask for an adjustment to repair costs because of that.

However Server population does matter in this situation. If the server pops aren’t balanced in some way soon I would suggest an adjustment to repair costs in WvW.

Free Transfers Make WvW Entirely Pointless

in WvW

The servers will never be balanced for population….

… low population servers attract people that don’t want to share the server with many others, then the bots infest the low pop servers because they think they can go about their business and not get reported as much…. then the people wanting peace and quiet see their server is not so quiet and filled with pests (bots) so they transfer…

…high population servers attract the people that want many people to share the server with, and those servers continue to grow….

same for all MMOs. Always has been that way. I know because I have been playing MMOs for years and I was the guy that transfered servers when the population got too high. I watched the numbers. What’s happening now in GW2 is what happens in any MMO with free transfers.

There is only one solution to this problem, and it’s a solution no one wants. Enough Said.

Better to accept the fact that some servers will always be bigger, over populated…. and some servers will always be the step child like Devona’s Rest (my server) and others.

I transferred to a couple other servers when the bot plague got out of hand on DR, plus I had tried WvW and fell in love with it, but I felt like a traitor for leaving DR. No argument can negate my real life “ethical conditioning” so to speak. I came back to DR, bots and “die trying” WvW and all. (so I am paying a high price for my opinion and decision on this issue). I am glad I came back.
