I can say absolutely and without hesitation that price isn’t the issue for me. Unless and until this issue is handled to my satisfaction, I won’t be purchasing HoT. It’s just that simple.
For me, it’s a combination of price vs. value, plus the abysmal way ANet has handled this.
If — if — there was enough value here to be worth $50, I’d spend it. I plunked down $60 on the base game, so it’s not that I’m adverse to spending the money if the value is there.
But look at what we’re getting compared to the base game. A small — compared to the vastness of Tyria — new area. One new class added to the eight already there. And a few miscellaneous tweaks that could have just as easily been rolled out in a regular update.
Simply put, what we’re getting doesn’t qualify for a price that’s 83% of the base game, because we’re not getting 83% of the stuff we got in the base game. We’re getting maybe — if we’re being charitable — 20-25% of what we got in the base game.
Now, as for the communication. They screwed up by the numbers, there’s little doubt about that. Essentially, they appear — and I said appear, not that they actually are — concentrating on the new players and ignoring the vets. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this, when they redid the early levels, they did it because new players were saying “the game is too hard to learn!” Nevermind all of us — including yours truly — that learned it just fine the old way.
So, the impression we’re left with is, “welcome, new players; screw you, veterans… again.”
Now, given both of those issues, is it any wonder that I’m seriously contemplating completely uninstalling GW2? ANet sure doesn’t seem to value my business any more.
we don’t know for sure, but it seems that only HoT players will have access to guild halls.
That’s what I suspect too, that’s why I want an official word from ANet.
I also suspect I won’t get an official word.
Let’s say that a guild leader buys the HoT expansion and sets up a Guild Hall. Would those guild members who do not buy HoT still be able to access said Guild Hall and all its nice perks and amenities, or will they be shut out because they don’t have the expansion?
I’d really appreciate an official word from ANet about this.

So sorry, ANet, not only will I not buy the “expansion” for $50, if the price doesn’t drop significantly by the time it comes out (and you guys have been stringing us along for months about this, so I’m not convinced it will be out before Christmas 2017), I won’t just refuse to buy it, I’ll simply uninstall the base game as well.
Making us loyal, long-time players (I’ve been at it for more than two years) pay close to or more than the same price for an expansion — Amazon has the digital download for $60, but you can get the CD version for a little more than $20 — is not only a slap in the face, it’s indicative of how you really view the players: as a cash cow.
GW2 is my game of choice largely because of your stated commitment to avoid griefing . However, with this pricing, you are the ones “griefing” us! Please explain to me why I should put up with that?
I feel sorry for you backward striving people. It must be really difficult to live in a world of constant change.
The game you’re looking for is called Skyrim. There you won’t have to meet other actual people
Personally, I feel that it is awesome to finally meet people who are willing to do other things than just run a zombie zerg through Queensdale.
Ya know, if you turn the condescension down just a tad, you might find people more amenable to being persuaded to your point of view.
I mostly play asura, though I’ve been thinking of branching out. I have one level 80 guardian, and am trying to decide what profession to level up to 80 next. I do have a bit of alt-itis.
I’m looking for a guild without a lot of drama, with helpful people who are friendly and who don’t mind a bit of a snarky attitude (all in good fun, of course)
Mail me in-game or catch me on one of the following toons:
Tymmot (guardian)
Triarr (engineer)
Ryssc (elementalist)
Whispirr (mesmer)
Llaur (ranger)
I had the same problem, but got it fixed.
Hit Y in-game to bring up a window. Cycle your status (the green, yellow, or grey box) through all three statuses, ending on Online (green).
If you’re experiencing the same thing I was, that should fix it.
