Reinstalling on new drive . . .

Yes, both drives would be newly formatted. But what I think I understand you to be saying is that just deleting the local.dat and copying would have the same practical effect as reinstalling, which is good to know. I still don’t think I see the downside to just reinstalling though, given that both the OS drive and the drive with gw2 will be newly formatted. Seems like just two ways to get at the same thing . . .

Thx for reply. I will be installing a new OS as well so that information was also helpful. I know I don’t actually need to reinstall, strictly speaking, but it’s been over two years on the same installation and I thought maybe reinstalling might be good for it? I normally reinstall everything including my OS once a year or so, it’s just been unusually long in this instance and the last time I reinstalled my OS I didn’t touch my storage drive that I keep my games on . . .

Er, no. In the past the ToT bag or gift was an added fourth item. Now it replaces the booster slot . . .

It’s true that the ToT bag doesn’t remove the opportunity for getting something good, but it has created the perception that people used to have three opportunities where now they only have two. Ofc no one ever had more than one chance per chest and that one chance still exists same as ever, but the perception of opening a chest and seeing two slots vs. three is what has created the backlash . . .

Accustomed as I am to all this whining on the forums at first I was inclined to tell people to get over it, but when I see those same ToT bags attached to every daily I do sort of agree that the seasonal item should be a fourth slot and they should bring the booster back, worthless as it was . . .

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

Also, everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the reason the cap was originally put in place no longer exists.

I’m a couple of years off from hitting the daily cap anyway, but that’s my two cents . . .

The reason the cap was put into place was because people didn’t want to log in every single day for 10AP to stay ahead on the leaderboard, just because the daily takes 5-15mins now, doesn’t mean the reason no longer exists, you still have to put in a daily log in to get it. The cap actually puts every player on an even footing. What gets you ahead is the rest of your time spent in game.

In all fairness, I’d rather Anet scrapped dailies, and made monthly rewards instead and increasing the cap to 20k. So those who couldn’t, didn’t have to log in every day to get achievement points. Then I’d be more inclined to agree with removing/upping the cap, as logging in when you can/want to during a month is far easier than a 24hr period.

What you are saying is that you view AP as a means of comparing yourself to other players. I’m saying that I view AP as a means of progressing along a reward track. You did not give me a reason why your view should matter and mine shouldn’t . . .

Of course AP are a means to compare yourself with other people.

Oh. Of course. No one had said “of course” yet. Now I see. I guess since AP isn’t useful for my purpose it should just be deleted entirely then? One less reason to play I suppose, but there are still plenty of others. HF

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

The ap cap isn’t a catch up method, it’s a slow down method to consistent players. It allows anet to not worry about ap rewards constantly since once someone hits the daily cap, their progress along that line will slow dramatically.

It just allows anet to have more time when deciding on rewards further down the line for AP, and put developer time elsewhere.

I think this best explains why I am opposed to the cap.

I don’t care how much AP I have relative to another player but I do like getting those little AP chests every now and then, even if there isn’t much in them. So I like for there to be some sort of opportunity to make consistent progress towards those chests.

I’m not saying every repeatable cheeve in the game should provide infinite AP — though I wish they would remove the ones that don’t from my top three — but at least one should. It doesn’t have to be the daily, but there should be some way for me to make progress towards my next achievement chest every time I log in, even if I already have all the one-off cheeves.

I wouldn’t be opposed to reducing the daily AP to one or five instead of ten, but some sort of avenue for progress should exist.

Also, everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the reason the cap was originally put in place no longer exists.

I’m a couple of years off from hitting the daily cap anyway, but that’s my two cents . . .

This may be tilting at windmills, but here goes . . :

1) SB. It would be incredibly inefficient for the entire zerg to go running after the mid-fight portals. They are not hard to take down and can be easily destroyed by a very few players. There was a time that I always ran the portals, but it eventually occurred to me that while my slow moving guard with poor ranged damage wasn’t really helping much with the portals the zerg was missing my buffs and melee damage as I ran back for the burn phase. Continuing to run the portals would have been foolish . . .

2) Jormag. You realize there are champ bags to be had during this phase, right? In 4500+ hours, my only pre drop has come from a champ bag at Jormag. I don’t think I’m going to apologize for finding the champ bags more important . . .

3) Mega. I always kill the vets at mega bc I like to play from the far side of the lava away from the zerg and that’s where two of the three vets spawn. Now maybe, like SB, the zerg would be better served if I joined them, but I just prefer to be on the less populated shore, so that’s how I contribute at that fight . . .

4) Pres. I don’t think this is the product of laziness or ignorance, but rather the bystander effect. SB is a good example, but I think shatterer is even better. I always pick up ten siege weapon pieces bc that’s the minimum I need for gold and it allows others to still get credit. Then I have a little fun racing to see if I can get to escort before it finishes. Normally this isn’t an issue, but on occasion I’ll be standing at Lowland Burns for a while before anyone realizes that no one else is doing the collection pre. This isn’t laziness on their part, it’s just that we don’t actually need the entire zerg doing collection — just as we don’t need the entire zerg killing portals at SB — and people naturally think that someone else is doing it because someone else usually is . . .

5) Play your game your way. ‘Laziness’, to me, isn’t picking one or another part of a boss fight to do, it’s using a Mesmer portal or teleport to a friend to get somewhere I could get to on my own if I put in the time and the effort. So I don’t use portals or teleports. Lots of players would rather save the time, so they do. That doesn’t make them lazy, they’re just playing their game their way, and I’m playing my game my way. If you like doing a particular part of a boss fight because you feel like it makes your contribution greater, do it. If you don’t like doing a boss fight because you don’t like seeing other players not make that exact contribution, don’t do it — either the fight or the contribution, your pick. But if you feel entitled to dictate which parts of which fight others ‘should’ be doing, you’re likely to have a difficult, unhappy gaming experience. Hf, gl

At the very beginning it was a little bit of a struggle bc I didn’t understand what I needed to hang on to and what I could get rid of, but it has been a very long time since it was an issue. I don’t even use my guild bank at all anymore. It’s been completely empty for months . . .

Ley-Line Research Achievements

I’m enjoying the irony of this ‘fix’ . . .

Yesterday I came here to read the forums before I logged in so I expected collecting the ley-line energy to be nearly impossible. It turned out to be fairly easy — at least one or two per event, maybe a few more if I was lucky, but easily enough to complete both collection cheeves in a week or two of casual playing . . .

Now I log in tonight and I can complete each collection in a single run, but successfully completing the event is much harder than collecting the energy was before the fix . . .

Sweet justice, I say. I hope they leave it like this. Maybe folks will learn to whine a bit less, or at least put a little effort in before they do so . . .

Which Title Do You Display? and Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gop.8713

Gop.8713

I use whichever I’ve most recently unlocked, which tends to be a PvP title since I played a lot of PvE before I started any PvP at all, so I already had most of the PvE ones unlocked. The only exception to this is that it felt odd to put ‘Killer Queen’ on my male charr, so I skipped that one. If I ever build a female charr she may wear that one permanently . . .

I really wanted a title back when I first started and I didn’t have any, but once I started unlocking them I pretty much stopped caring about them. I remember I liked getting Combat Healer bc it was my first one, and I liked getting ‘Golden’ bc it was actually pretty hard to save up 200g back then. There was one other recently that I was sad to change from when I got a new one, but I don’t even remember what it was now . . .

Nothing against the OP’s suggestion — which is a fine one — but for those looking to display all the cheeves over a certain percentage or whatnot I think the ability to sort by total and tier completion already satisfies that need pretty well. It’s true you can only sort within categories and not overall, but that isn’t terribly limiting . . .

And in other news: They did finally fix Crab Toss (Yay . . ) I too had a Crab Toss cheeve in my top three for the whole time it was out of rotation, and I finally got to clear it a couple of days ago . . .

Oh, you shouldn’t be surprised, people LOVE talking about pugs. I suspect it’s bc pugs are pretty much anonymous encounters, so you can’t really talk about them with the pugs themselves . . .

But the answer to your original question is still probably no. The eight people who left most probably left for eight different reasons, very few if any of which had anything to do with you, probably. Now that you’ve got me thinking about it, it’s actually pretty unlikely that even the one person who did comment before leaving was actually reacting to you. I’d be more inclined to believe he just felt like logging in to some random group, calling them names and leaving. I mean, you said you PvP, surely you’re aware that such players exist . . .

I pug AC daily bc it’s an easily puggable dungeon and I’d rather just start a run when I’m ready and get it over with than try to schedule runs with guildies. I’d estimate more than 90% of those runs are quick and pleasant, though the ones that aren’t do tend to stick out a lot more in my memory . . .

That said, people join and leave pugs without saying anything all the time. It seems odd to assign a motivation to all of those separate, independent individuals based on something only one of them said . . .

I think she is there to fix personal story issues, not living story issues.

I have five toons, all of whom were affected by the ‘Personal Story Restoration’ update from a year ago, meaning they were all past ‘The Battle of Fort Trinity’ when the update took effect and so didn’t get to play the ‘My Greatest Fear’ storyline.

I finished the personal story with my main, but the other four toons I left on the last step, because I just didn’t feel like killing Zhaitan four more times.

My main is now experiencing the problems you describe with the vanishing tooltip and repeated mails, but my other four toons were reverted back to the ‘My Greatest Fear’ storyline. So I’m guessing that is what is supposed to happen, and it is either bugged in that it does not revert toons who have finished the personal story, or bugged in that it does not recognize it should not be sending mails to toons who have finished the personal story.

So send a bug report and I’m sure they’ll get around to it, and in the meantime avoid LA. The Black Citadel is nice this time of year . . .
