PS. To T5 (Ehmry and Devona)
I don’t want our server to get strong by merging with strong guilds. If we beat you guys in T5, and you like our play, come to us. Let’s fight against T4. We will meet a new enemy there, and will travel to T3 with whomever else likes our play. What do you say!?
Here’s the thing; You transferred a large number of people into a low tier and primarily due to your numbers and no opposition in your time zone you bumped that server to where it is currently at.
However, now you are getting into tiers where neither your numbers nor your time zone will ensure continued victory. The Tier 4 servers will put a stop to your advance, your troops will become demoralized because your server doesn’t have round-the-clock coverage needed to advance further, and most everyone who wants to play in T1-3 will transfer off of Kaineng before players have to pay for transfers.
To sum this up; No thanks.
I object to trivializing precursors.
Players who grasp the GW2 economy are easily able to obtain them now.
Plenty of people have obtained Legendaries already and frankly if everyone has one it is no longer Legendary at all, it becomes Common.
Just over a day left to enter the Wintersday screenshot competition, don’t miss out!

Culling/ Rendering issue mod post here, Other updates + Culling mod post here and Rewards progression mod post here.
Thanks a bunch, no idea how I missed the culling post.
I guess my search skills are failing me, I checked prior and was unable to find it.
Would one of you actually have a link to the red post on here?

The original post was made by the German Community Manager Ramon Domke on the German GW2 forums here: Anzeigeverzögerung (Culling) und wie wir kitten umzugehen gedenken
I posted a translation on the Ehmry Bay Server Forum here: how ArenaNet plans to deal with display culling
Then I decided it that would be useful for players on the other servers to have some insight in this as well. If you want to troll me by posting something about how can you be sure that it’s translated accurately you are welcome to just do your own translation.
= The following has been posted in German by German Community Manager Ramon Domke =
We are currently working on a solution (or rather a collection of solutions) for the culling and other problems associated with loading characters [into the players view]. In order to improve this issue we have to make numerous changes to the game engine which will take time. We are currently unable to publish any details on the solutions we are working on, but we do want to let you know that we are intensively working on improving your game experience.
Long version:
We are currently employing a server-side delay in displaying characters to limit the number of characters displayed to each client. By limiting the number of characters displayed to each client we are able to limit the bandwidth used by the server and the client to avoid situations in which the client is overwhelmed with the number of characters that need to be rendered. This system has obvious advantages and works really well in PvE, but in large battles characteristic for WvW the weakness of this system occasionally surfaces.
Furthermore there are some client-side problems which impact how our culling system works. After a client is notified that a character is present some time is needed to actually load the resources required to display this character. The time it takes to load those resources depends on the power of the client computer (RAM, CPU, CPU cores. disk i/o). One of our game engine programmers recently completed an optimizing routine which will improve character load times and we will soon™ see those improvements. Still, the main issue with culling is server side an how fast your computer can load character resources is this irrelevant [if your client doesn’t even know that the character exists in your vicinity].
As you may know, we implemented a solution to the current culling problems in the sPvP part of the game. Since in sPvP significantly fewer players present at any one time we were able to implement this solution immediately without to worry too much about unintended consequences.
WvW on the other hand functions on a much larger scale than sPvP and thus we have to deal with additional issues before we can implement a server-side fix. We need to ensure that clients, especially clients which only meet the minimum system requirements, can render and process more characters. We also need to ensure that there the bandwidth required [to play the game] remains within a reasonable range and the published minimum requirements.
The WvW team is currently working an both of those issues. Any changes we will be implementing will be complex and will have massive implications on how the game engine works. Because those changes are so complex and affect core systems of the game engine it will take some time to properly implement those changes. Thus I am unable to announce any kind of ETA.
Our goal is to dramatically improve the game experience during large WvW battles and to significantly increase the number of characters that can be rendered by the client.
this is the end of the first post —-
In response to a player question whether it wouldn’t be easier to just display stick figures in WvW Ramon replied the following:
We are looking into it. Of course it’s supposed to look better than just stick figures yet offer a significant improvement in performance. For example, a standardized character model for male human characters or some such that only 10 different models have to be preloaded yet the immersion isn’t completely hosed.
this is the end of the reply to that question —-
In reply to the suggestion to color code players:
Right, thus it’s our goal to have a well defined finite solution to how characters are displayed, for example those 10 placeholder models, 5 races, 2 genders, potentially 8 color options for classes, or perhaps only 3 colors to indicate which world players are from. Those models would be permanently preloaded and would thus be instantly available when needed. The theorycrafting is quickly and easily done though implementing such a solution will take quite a bit of programming skill.

(edited by Humpink.2306)
you’d be surprised by the amount of people that just want to finish the puzzle and get on with their gameplay.
… and they have dozens of PvE zones to do so. Allowing the other server to grab a bunch of siege blueprints for free is generally not a good idea.
Never understood why Europe based guilds would want to switch to US server to play Player vs Gate.
Because they are not playing vs. the gate. Just because a server is an NA server doesn’t mean every single player on it is NA based.
I can’t speak for other servers, but the last 2-3 weeks Ehmry Bay has done extremely well during US Pacific time later afternoons/evenings, but we were always “nightcapped” after our people logged off at around 1-2 am Pacific time.
In the fight against NSP their population that was doing the nightcapping wasn’t just a group of 5 people with a couple rams. Those were sizable groups of 20-30 players who would take the entire map while were were sleeping.
Please let me be clear, nightcapping is a game mechanic and I have no problem with it.
But the fact that it is happening is an indication for that there are opponents available during times when our main WvW population is sleeping or at work. EU based players, who play during their evening hours, play during US mornings/daytime. The very time when a decently sized group of opponents is available.
KISS moving to Ehmry Bay is our win and GH’s loss, there’s no doubt about that. But at the end of the day we do pay for the game we play, and as such it is up to each individual player how they want to enjoy the limited entertainment time they have. Until, if ever, Anet implements large restrictions when it comes to server moves and WvW lockouts players and guilds moving servers will be a fact of life.
Having said that, it would appear to me that you don’t pack up and move an alliance of perhaps thousands of players on a whim. As such it’s reasonable to assume that the KISS folks decided to make Ehmry Bay their new permanent home.
I would like to think that part of their decision which server to pick was influenced by the server community we have. If you look at our server forum at http://www.ehmry.com you will most likely agree that we strive to provide a fun and respectful gaming environment and that for at least the people who are present on the forum the player next to them matters even if (s)he doesn’t wear the same guild tag.
Having a strong, supportive, and entertaining community makes for better gameplay.
Check out all the other servers first, see their communities for yourself, then come to Ehmry Bay last and you won’t be leaving.
And yet, you are not playing that TRUE PvP game.
The way eve function is not the same as the way guild wars 2 function. Also just to add, there is no real reason for arenanet to bother making a world server since it serves no real purpose. The nature of WvW make it so that such a thing will not work.
How do you know what I play? My first EVE character was created on October 28 2003 and that account is still active. Thanks for making a comment that has nothing to do with whether or not people can have a decent connection to a single datacenter. Your contribution is appreciated.
No one is talking about a single world server either, don’t know why you assumed that. The point is that there is no reason to not just have servers at one location in the world and remove the NA/EU separation. I guess you just didn’t really read or comprehend this thread.
tl;dr: data centers are on different continents, latency is an issue with inter-continental connections, data center distinctions are here to stay.
EVE Online, a true PvP game, is hosted in a single server cluster in the UK, yet hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world have no latency issues connecting to that datacenter.
The separation between NA and EU is killing WvW, and ultimately your player base. Hopefully you will reconsider when you realize that the long term viability of GW2 is very much linked to how much fun players have in WvW.
I also suggest Ehmry Bay. Short of the Tier 1 servers we have the most active player community on the Ehmry Bay Server Forum which is supported by mature working adults which also allows us to provide a currently 250-slot Teamspeak3 server at no charge for WvW coordination as well as main voice comms for any guilds who are interested in using it.
I do have to point out though that asking “Also, are the guilds open and welcome?” is not enough. Any guild depends on the contributions their members make so this isn’t a matter of joining a guild and then sitting there all day asking for help for the stuff one needs help with.
The best way to ensure that you are in a good guild is to put in effort to help others as much, or more, as you want to be helped.
I really don’t know why people keep saying NSP population is huge, it really isn’t. We might outnumber you guys from time to time, but even on Friday night’s reset we can fill EB and have a que for it 3 or so hours after.
I cannot recall the last time we had a queue on Ehmry Bay. In all fairness though I don’t usually log on till 8 pm server time. Maybe the more active players who are there daily can pitch in with some info on Ehmry Bay WvW queue times.
Don’t forget the guild who held the ETH hills orb for 4 days straight in sorrow’s furnace borderlands last week making sure we at least have one orb all the time for morale, who gave NSP pressure right after reset friday in their borderlands taking over the whole south of their map including the 2 side keeps and the guild who coordinated with [GH] to take over the whole SF map Saturday.
[FTF] guild. well we wouldn’t be able to do it without the cooperation of the rest of the server. Good job guys!
“Invincibility lies in the defence; the possibility of victory in the Attack.” – Sun Tzu
Sorry Noice, didn’t mean to exclude you and FTF. <3 you guys!
I have nothing but the highest respect for the NSP and SF guilds who are coming in an trying. That’s what the game is all about anyway. Yes, currently EB is winning, but not that long ago we were where SF is today.
What changed is that we have created venues to organize the players. We have a server-wide forum set up at http://www.ehmry.com which encourages respectful communication between players and guilds on our server.
We also have a server-wide TS3 server set up where players/groups/guilds can join and coordinate gameplay whether it’s PvE, PvP, or WvW.
In short, we have many players who put substantial amounts of time into promoting Ehmry Bay as a community, not just a server like any other server. This inspires loyalty among the server population. I don’t have hard numbers but my gut tells me that we don’t have as many server hoppers as other servers in our bracket(s).
That’s because people arrive at EB and then realize that it’s actually a great place to be, even when we do not always win, because we do have venues that allow you as a player to create a social fabric around you that keeps you interested in other players on our server.
You can keep your opinion about it not being an honest win, obviously I won’t be able to change it, and frankly it doesn’t matter to me what you think because I know how we won this; by having a better and more dedicated community than SF and NSP. Spies were completely unnecessary because we wouldn’t want a single of our people to be stuck on another server for a week missing out on all the fun we are having.
My advice to anyone, on any server, is to work on creating such a player driven community for their own server, or transfer to a server that has one and make that server their new home.
Quick edit: It may sound like I didn’t give credit where credit is due, at the end of the day a community is only as good as its participants, and we have a good number of guilds which are highly dedicated to WvW be it win or lose. Shouts out to [SM], [GH], [PURG], [pK], [CoS], [TTD} and everyone else I am not thinking of right now. You guys are all rockstars! <3
(edited by Humpink.2306)
Stop blaming your loss on spies. You are being trolled by your own people.
As far as knowing where your people are, that’s trivial, we have defenders at each location, as soon as you show up they relay the info to our 250-slot teamspeak server and literally everyone in the zone knows where you are.
Not only does everyone know where you are, but our people actually make the run from all the way across the map to make your life in that zone miserable (all in good fun, ofc, we don’t want you to be miserable IRL).
Also, please consider where Sorrow’s Furnace’s standing was in this match. We didn’t need to spy on you because none of your people even showed up.

This was complained about in early betas. People wanted daily quests so that active WvWs of any level could get free siege equipment. What we got was the jumping puzzle. The intent is there…I just can’t even do the jumps to get the vistas, let alone the jumping puzzles so it doesn’t help me.
Tell me about it, I hate jumping around like I am in some platformer console game. I just buy my blueprints and not worry about the jumping BS.
Well Humpink, On some server, half our population in WvW is underleveled. That’s why we are in the last tiers.
I understand, trust me Ehmry Bay was there not too long ago, but this just means that the players are not as committed, there’s nothing actually wrong with the system. I went to WvW while I was underleveled and I hated it. Buying a single arrow cart would wipe out 50% of my wealth. Then I decided to suck it up, get to 80, and never had a problem paying for blueprints or upgrades since. I don’t pay for the 2g upgrades, but I do often drop a couple g cumulative into upgrading towers.
My advice is to just forgo WvW and level up, it will become much more enjoyable when you don’t have to worry about whether or not you can afford to buy that blueprint.
Look at the timer, you already lost the points on the tower, this group would have been better off hitting AR keep at the time for the next point tally if steam rolling was the intent, at least it makes better sense for over all points.
99% of the/any server population doesn’t understand how the points and timers work, nor do they really care. The “hardcore” players who read and post on this forum and on the server forum are those who have more insight into the mechanics.
The general server population doesn’t care about winning either, and you can’t really blame them since the rewards for leading and winning are totally meaningless.
All the want to do is get online, shoot some reds, have a few laughs, and log off.
There is now also a Halloween screenshot contest ending on Oct 31 and voting will only be open for 24 hours. A Domino’s Pizza gift certificate awaits the winner!
WvW cost is fine, stop screwing around underleveled and you won’t have any issue with coming up with the cash to upgrade your infrastructure when you are at 80.
In full agreement on the commander issue though lots of people who have no clue have books, 100g doesn’t take too long to grind out if one puts his/her time to it.
I call this picture EBays answer to 4 defenders in a tower:
So basically what you are saying is that Ehmry should have taken ~5 assaulters and told the other 459632063029 players that were online in the zone that they will need to stay in the keep and wait for another opportunity to shoot something.
That’s a really good plan, and we tried to implement it, but the pitchfork wielding mob just wouldn’t listen.
Oh the old zergland argument again
The fact is that every single server has a zerg because the WvW queue cannot be controlled and you have no way to get a group of dedicated people in it. So please, spare the readership the lecture.
Pretty sure there is plenty of night-capping going on in any WvW game, regardless of which tier, that’s the nature of a 24-hour pvp game, it’s just surprising that this fact needs to be pointed out time and again on these forums as it really isn’t this difficult of a concept to understand.
I can also confirm that tactics actually matter in a game where the biggest accumulation of people will win, no matter how good the tactics of the opponents. This is a flaw in the game mechanics and not a problem with those who participate in the game. Again, odd that this needs to be pointed out several weeks into the game when the concept should be clear by now.
Lastly, the fact is that lower population servers will go by the wayside sooner or later. You can wait for that to happen, or you can start making a new home elsewhere now.
I am certain that all servers are currently experiencing guild moves. Ehmry Bay has seen guilds depart and other guilds arrive. Not every guild has 100+ players, and not all guilds find guild upgrades valuable enough to worry about starting over.
If one loves their current server then me posting a note saying that Ehmry Bay has a great community isn’t going to make them pack up and leave, no risk there. If one is indifferent toward, or frustrated with, a lower population server then I may as well put the Ehmry Bay name out there.
My post has no bearing on people actually leaving, the only thing it does is point out to those who are thinking about leaving why Ehmry Bay may be a decent choice.
October screenshot competition voting is now open!
Anvil Rock & Borils Pass guys; if your guild is not particularly attached to your server, then please consider to permanently relocate to Ehmry Bay.
The servers were stood up to support a high concurrent player count based on projected sales. The sales happened, but the high concurrent player count leveled out. Current low population servers are unlikely to pick up significant player numbers going forward.
Ehmry Bay is a pretty mellow server, we do have an excellent out of game community, and we would certainly welcome additional players, WvW or otherwise.
Of course I am biased but I don’t agree.
3rd party forums provide a lot more flexibility and a lot more value added services than this official forum ever could, that’s not even talking about a different moderation approach.
The Ehmry Bay forum has some 650 players signed up, many of whom are daily WvW participants, and we are gaining about 10 members per day without to actually run any kind of ad campaign, just by word of mouth.
People will go where they can contribute and where they feel valued. I am inclined to say that the Ehmry Bay forum has more EB players present than this forum here.
Just FYI, many servers, including Ehmry Bay (see link in sig), have their own forums set up where their players discuss WvW and other GW2 topics. Not sure which server you are on but odds are that there is a server forum community for your server set up as well.
I want to throw Ehmry Bay into the mix. We are currently on the winning side of WvW but that’s because we were thrown into the lowest bracket, next time around we will be the underdogs again yet our WvW presence is strong.
In addition we have a vibrant player community forum set up at ehmry.com (click link in my sig). You are welcome to join and get to know some of the players before you make a server move.
I just want to mention that from my perspective it would be a good thing to merge Anvil Rock and Borils Pass into Ehmry Bay. Then again, I am biased.
You may want to offer some sort of compensation or prize to be raffled off between all participants. You’ll probably get more respondents if you offer an incentive for folks to spend their time other than just your thanks. Just a suggestion of course.
Screenshot entries have been closed, voting to begin shortly.
You can now sign up at the forum using your Facebook account and you can pick a display name different from your real name.
Can’t really decide whether more people find the forum through Twitter or through this thread…

I take no small joy in seeing Ehmry Bay dominating despite the initial orb madness.
Still strong in WvW despite orb hacking of the opposing (unnamed) server.
I figure that bumping this no more than once a day with info that’s actually relevant is fine. I trust that mods would let me know if it weren’t.
New screenshot competition posted: Ehmry Bay Server Screenshot Competition – October the theme for this month is: Shoreline
For those who are still looking to transfer, Ehmry Bay has plenty of room, low queue times, and a strong US West Coast presence. We welcome you with open arms and yes, we night-cap at times.
At the end of the day the purpose of the game is to be entertaining. If I can get on WvW and have a good time it is really irrelevant who’s leading because, and let’s just be honest here, the rewards for leading in WvW are meaningless.
