Hi! I’ve been trying to style my characters with transmutation charges but my options were very limited. however in the PVP lobby i came across somebody with a hat like in the pic in the Attachments! I like anything that’s asian themed. What’s this headgear called and for what armour class? (light, medium or heavy?) Thank you!

Oh, one last comment. Stop thinking “attack, then reposition”. Think “reposition while attacking”.

Thanks ^^ That is the effective way of playing the game. but waiting silently and patiently whilst camping and finally coming across your prey; then holding your breath to take aim and fire is a totally different experience. There aren’t any single target skill shots in this game, hence why making this play style OP. Just my own fantasy really but i’ll have to makedo with what i’ve got

I totally agree! I love Lore and i’m missing a lot of it! I not only feel bad holding back players but when i do decide to watch the stories, i constantly get kicked by my fellow party members…. T^T Though it is understandable since not many people have time and want to clear dungeons to get the rewards and get em over and done with. All kinds of people to keep happy. Some slow. some impatient. So no hatred or flaming here, but still….. I want to read cutscenes at my pace there’s no helping it T^T

You’re not going to get all of that in one build, because it would be too powerful. So in each of them, so you’re going to have to give something up.

Longbow Ranger is by far your closest choice, that’s why everyone is saying it.

  • 1500 Longbow Range (traited) is longer than anything else.
  • Reasonable burst options.
  • Send the pet in early to take aggro and distract.
  • LB#3 gives 3s of stealth on a 12s cooldown…. plenty of time to reposition.
  • Pet will keep attacking while you’re repositioning.
  • Try pets other than a bear. Like a Jaguar or Reef Drake.
  • Swap to Axe+Warhorn for dealing with crowds.

Your next option is Mesmer.

  • Greatsword and Scepter give you range
  • Illusions distract and can take aggro
  • Several stealth options, though most are short and long CD.
  • Harder to build up a burst damage to “snipe”, though.

Third is Dagger thief.

  • More stealth options than you can shake a stick at.
  • Lots of options to continuously reposition yourself.
  • OMG amounts of burst damage.
  • But you gotta live in melee.
  • One mistake can kill you.

I’d say those are your major options.
But really, you want LB Ranger.

Haha i thought so. I knew it would be hard to balance anything like a long distance sniper but knowing guild wars and the diverse play styles i thought there could be a slight possibility. Thank you for your reply though! very helpful!

Nobody’s good at hide AND shoot, sorry.

You might want to try a Rifle warrior. They’re single target, but have good range and a skill that cripples the enemy for a moment to slow them down as they try to get to you. They’re also fairly tough, so you’ll better be able to survive when things do get to you.

That i’m also working on. I’ve heard of the one shot kill F1 rage skill from the rifle of a warrior. But i’m aware it’s only used for trolling and never for serious gameplay. Furthermore the rifle warrior doesn’t have any escape mechanisms so i can reposition myself but i could also use it as a last resort… Thanks for the reply!

Longbow ranger has stealth on skill 3.

Also you can stow the pet outside of combat. Or use the guard skill to position it somewhere else.

Also longbow rangers are made for distance, and are terrible at close range.

Thanks ^^ but i really don’t need the pet….. though as a last resort i may have to learn to control the pet and leave it FAR FAR away so that it doesn’t give away my position… but thanks for the reply!!! The post was really long sorry ><

But i’d be upset if the reason why they did get rid of Cantha was so that it would make the living world more “universal”. I can’t seem to find any evidence for this statement but anywho…. Hi! I’m a relatively new player however i’ve pretty much tried all the classes (created then deleted characters) but there are infinite number of ways to play each class that i’m unable to try all of em (no money to gear all my classes and try em out).

I see myself as a “coward” player. I like to camp, deal massive burst damage then leg it and re-position. Kind of like hit and run but from a distance preferably. Exactly like a sniper.

I tried Condi Thief and tried the perma stealth play style where you use “cloak and dagger” every 3 secs to reposition myself and only appear when safe. However it’s different from what i’m looking for, only similar.

I also tried a pistol-pistol thief (which is widely condemned by most players) whereby i try to burst down enemies with my third skill. I really enjoy this but it gets very frustrating when you lose every pvp match, since i exhaust all my initiate and can only rely on utility skills to pull back which is a waste… nor is the damage output all that high.

I know that part of enjoying the game is about finding your own play style and building your character and exploring the game. but i’ve reached the point where i’ve given up in finding anything. If there is any type of play style that fits my criteria can somebody please suggest?

Note: I’ve been told the ranger is probably the closest match, but it’s hard to hide yourself with a massive bear following you around and without any sort of invis skill. Of course these guys have a lot of evasions, but are IMO effective only for close range combat and keeping distance between you and the opponent (i want to completely hide and snipe down people from afar)

For tldr; I like to camp and snipe then reposition. Can’t seem to find this kind of play style in any class

Hi!, I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since a month (or two) ago and i’m more into the lore/story and exploration than anything else.

So i’ve been doing my own research as just playing the game didn’t tell me much and i came across lore from gw1! Here i found that there existed an asian themed continent called Cantha down south from Tyria.

I’ve looked at different screenshots and art of Cantha and it was so captivating i actually wanted to leave gw2 and start gw1 (which is obviously impossible). IMO Cantha added to the diversity of the environment of gw and as an asian myself, i think i could really have enjoyed exploring Cantha if it was a part of gw2. Is there a possibility that GW2 would re-introduce Cantha to the world? I’ve been told that Cantha wasn’t added to GW2 because of some sort of ridiculous reason… Why exactly did they get rid of Cantha?

For tldr; Cantha seems awesome and wondering what are the possibilities of bringing back Cantha and why did they get rid of it in the first place?

I’ve noticed that taking gloves and head gear off is an option whilst still keeping the item’s stats. It would be great if taking off top half of the armour could become an option too. I’d like to show off my toon’s muscles :P

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it yet, but have you looked into the Raiment of the Lich outfit? totally shirtless for guys.

haha sorry too dark. the reason why i want to go shirtless is because this game’s theme doesn’t fit the asian-monk-martial artist feel i’m wanting. The Mesmer’s mask plus the pants (the flappy things i have for my dobok as well) kind of gives me that feel.

Healer not a viable role in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I tank/heal on my guardian in dungeons and in a pve setting. It is a viable role but not in the sense of other mmorpgs. There is not a dedicated healer, it is more of a buffer (not buffs but buffering HP). My healing helps to stabilize ontop of individual healing. Each player has their own skills to keep themselves alive. My skills merely benefit them as a support. I can’t insta heal people to full unless I use the tome.

I see i can kind of understand now! ty!

Worth mentioning, as a Guardian you can run full damage orientated gear and traits while only needing to pick Healing Breeze as your heal skill to support your allies with an individual heal of 6525 and landing all pulses (which is rather easy since in current instanced 5-man content you will be standing very close to each other) on four allies sums up in a total of 26100 health restored every 40th second

I’ll keep that in mind

Healer not a viable role in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hwarang.4789

Contrary to popular belief that healer is completely useless and should be dismissed, while that might be true when you are trying to complete a dungeon effectively, it is actually shown by a few people trying to 3man or maybe 2 to have one of the players a tanky support guardian. You scarifice damage, but it makes your allies totally facerollable to do damage and avoid a large amount of damage when you hold aggro. However, a lot of attacks are AoE, and ‘tanking’ is probably not too possible in the current state of the game, therefore it is highly unoptimized.
Maybe you might think that everyone is only doing dps and its boring. That isn’t true either. Even in the best speed runs, party members sacrifice a small fraction of their potential damage for the slightest bit of control and /or support to keep themselves alive while maximizing damage. So instead of having a dedicated tank/dps/support, in GW2 the role of support is split among everyone.

Thank you for your response!

Every player is their own “healer”. It was intentionally made NOT a “role” for a very good reason….to avoid “Looking for Healer” requests being a requirement to play content.

The desire to be “needed” by other players to complete content is NOT a reason to alter one of the core concepts of the game….

Haha of course i’m not demanding any changes to the game. I just like to heal tis all. It’s very satisfying keeping your allies alive.

This game doesn’t have specific roles like that. Everyone does damage, everyone heals, and everyone can use crowd control abilities.

You can play how you want to, but it is true that making tanks/healers is wasteful. It’s a different kind of combat system.

Thanks! well i guess i should find out what exactly this “different kind of combat system” is.

Hi, i only started gw2 2 weeks ago and my main is a guardian at level 34. I’ve had to delete, recreate then delete characters to find the class and race that fits me. I thought the guardian was an awesome choice since i like to heal/tank in alotta mmorpgs, but i was discouraged to find that (according to another player i met by chance) a healer isn’t a viable role in GW2. Can anybody clarify this? Am i ruining my character by investing on healing power and vitality/defence alone?

If you want “shirtless” you could always go Sylvari. Their T1 cultural light coat is probably the smallest piece of “clothing” in this game. With that being said, the reason I went with as little clothing as possible on my Sylvari is because of their unique glow patterns, since you can’t see any of that wearing the many dresses and robes in this game.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want shirtless an option because of what i think you’re thinking. That’s kinda sad tbh.

Haha i just think it looks kinda cool on my all male toons

I don’t use sylvari, only humans and norns ^^

Haha i didn’t think this topic would be such a controversial one.

The only reason why i wanted my toon to have his top armour removed was because i built my human Mesmer with a rock hard body and the top light armour is in the way (also too frilly to my liking, but that’s just my preference).

Also i’m not sure if this is relevant, but i’m a martial arts enthusiast and fighting in as light enough armour as possible is kind of my thing/what i prefer.

Others were talking about practicality and making it as real as possible. But i personally think Mesmers can fight without the top half of their “light armour”. After all light armour is pretty much just clothing we wear in our day to day lives. The worst that could happen would be a few mozzie bites and sunburns. Again i didn’t consider the other classes where obviously heavy armour is needed but this was just a casual post and i only wanted to make a suggestion

Didn’t consider the female toons and i personally don’t want that. But if male toons get to go top half naked and females not, then i feel as if another controversial topic will take place

You can’t ‘put it back’, it will just collapse and disappear after about 5 minutes. It has a ‘life’ of 2 weeks (real time), and then will no longer be usable. Once used, the Golem becomes soul-bound. You can access your bank at any bank NPC in cities and the open world, as well as any Crafting Station (again in cities or the open world).

Golem bank and details of how to use

Hwarang.4789

Hi, i have a golem bank and i’m really confused with how to use it properly.
I understand that once you’ve summoned the golem bank you can put any items in it as you like and can be shared between characters of the same account. However once summoned, i can’t seem to “put it back” into my inventory bag, so it just stands there where i first summoned it and leave it there. Secondly, as i hover over the item details it seems to have a countdown. Is this countdown showing when my golem bank summon will no longer be useable? If so, then is it ignore time or real time. and if it disappears where do i access my bank instead?

Thank you for all the replies i understand that this is a really long post

For tldr; basically i dunno how to put my golem back into my bag and if the golem disappears after a certain amount of time. and where do i access the bank if the golem DOES disappear

Pick any NA server.

Server choice mostly matters for WvW nowadays, everything else is megaservers. Are you interested in WvW? As a rule of thumb, there’s more likely to be players on your team and your enemy’s team during OCX prime, the higher you go up the rankings.

America is such a big place and i assumed some servers provide optimal performance to certain regions. Guess i was wrong. World vs world seems interesting since i haven’t tried that kind of feature in any mmorpg i’ve come across, but not sure if my macbook can handle it :P Thanks for the reply!

I think you should look into the Warrior profession! They use axes, which really look like martial animations when using a small axe. Of course, that’s not really a super great reason; but there’s more!

Warriors have a transformation elite called Rampage that gives them strong physical skills capable of incapacitating enemies with punches, charges, and kicks. You can also throw a boulder at them too if that’s worth anything to you. This elite skill lasts for a good while, so you really can feel like a martial profession for a bit every time you use it.

And also, the Rampage elite has become a bit more popular in PvP as of late, if that’s your cup of tea

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warrior
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampage

Oh, and additionally, the warrior has a set of utility skills called Physical skills: one is a kick, one’s a smash, and one’s a charge stun. They’re not super great, but I think you’d enjoy them!

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Physical

Thank you very much for the information. That’s great to hear! I guess i will be using the warrior class then ^^

Is there anything like a helpful title in these forums? For instance a like button of some sort. Really appreciate the help

It’s a very cool idea but sadly there is no such aforementioned class or weapon type in this game.

The boxing gloves illustrated in the video are for ‘Costume Brawl’. Basically, you can have different ‘costumes’ that give you a fun/silly set of skills to fight against other players with. Really it’s ’just for fun:

But yeah, otherwise there is no martial arts based combat style in the proper game

However i’ve checked the online game manual and it seems there isn’t such a class in this game, nor are there any knuckles or feet guards in the selection of weapon choices. However i just came across this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru7_jmfGLGA
