The point is this game should’ve been an e-sport from the start, MMOs have evolved and you can’t launch a game unfinished in 2012.
or you dont give promissess that you dont deliver on start because normally.. players will eat you alive for this….
Which is hilarious as they still go on that they don’t want to make empty promises to people about future plans and changes even though people have bought this game under empty promises. i.e paid torne’s on release, glory matchmaking etc
Tournaments are okay, however i feel that a random queue for a game with rating and MMR would be so much better for a laddering system. I’ve said before much like the SC2 league this could be adopted into GW2 for example:
-Team A queue for a ranked game
-Team A gets paired with Team D on random map
-Team D win map and gain X rating and Team A lose X rating
rinse and repeat
The good thing about this would be that you cannot prepare a certain spec that is an advantage for that map which people are doing at the moment also to possibly stop people changing classes mid games also as the maps would be random and in no set order.
Thoughts?

The one thing i find that is frustrating with this game is the lack of communication about potential profession changes or adjustments to the game, even during the live stream event when it came to pvp all they had to say is “we have a few cool things planned but we don;t want to dicuss that just yet”.
The pvp community gets no love so far ( with the exception of pumpkins woot!) and i feel for a pvp community communication is the thing we need to keep us going, but at the moment the only response from devs is “when it’s ready”, which isn’t enough as we need to be kept in the loop about what changes are being considered so at least we have some input it. I know that a net say that they don’t want to make empty promises if they go back on a decsion but i’d rather they justify why they went back on an idea rather than being kept in the dark for weeks on end for potential fixes that may not happen.
Completly agree with this post as my team are currently running into the same problem. Free is not funas you say 95% is just a steamroll then the other 5% is the bored teams from paid queuing in free. Paid offers no learning experience for people that are new to paid and who are mid tier and upward have no real chance of progression as you just get demolished by the top tier players. A laddering or even adopting SC2’s league system would be amazing for GW2 as putting teams of equal skill level against each other would be more enjoyable and allow people to enchance there skill over time, rather than them trying to run into a brick wall with no real success.
+1 for this thread

Thank you very much for the constructive posts and for the tips on condition builds that you’ve felt work. I ’m going to have a look at your builds cause they look really good!. keep them coming !
My post was directed at Spvp where yes alot of the builds that you have mentioned are fun and viable in a Pve and WvWvW situation, however in Spvp it’s a different matter.
But thank you for your feedback I love playing mesmer and I also love messing arounds with traits and weapons to find something that work’s, however alot of weapon sets are just outmatched in a spvp situation cause at the moment the majority of people (this isn’t just mesmer) are favoring full burst and damage, over anything else.
Like I said I play phantasm builds with a sword and focus with staff and i love the build that I’ve made, however with condition builds in spvp at this moment in time they’re just not worth it in my opinion anyway
So my plea is to the A-nets devs to take a serious look at the amount of viable builds us mesmer’s have at this moment. The main problem (and where a great deal of the rage comes from) is that the majority of mesmer’s have been pushed towards one of the only viable builds at the this moment in time, which is the Shatter build with Sword/ off hand and GS.
I don’t use this build cause at the moment I prefer phantasm builds and trying to make that work with Sword/Focus and Staff. The main problem i see for mesmer’s though at this moment that there really only viable builds which are majority power based. I would love a more viable option with a decent condition build/toughness, which I have tested out already, however the weapons required for a decent condition build are close to worthless at this point in time.
Scepter and torch require some looking at, because at this moment in time they are just not viable weapons for any build. confusion stacks don’t last long enough (even when traited). A good example was when I was at the NPC dummies in the mists:
-I used i-mage then got 3 clones
-used scepter 3 and shattered all at the same time.
-Great 12 stacks of confusion the NPC uses one skill 2.1k that’s great! how long does that last? 2 seconds
-what can i do now to damage the enemy? the answer is not much wait around for your skill 3 to come off CD and try again.
I think with making a change and offering a lot more viability to our weapon choices and builds will help people get away from the whole glass cannon mesmer with shatters that people are hating on 24/7 at the moment, people wouldn’t dislike it that much if you don’t come across it every game it’s the same with thieves there are just not enough viable builds. Because what’s the points of being the special snowflake with your unique build if it’s just not viable in the current meta? the answer there is no point
Please leave your idea’s here for idea for more viable builds for memsers and hopefully a dev to notice this !
many thanks

Sorry if this has been posted already but i’ve noticed that every time my character goes below 10% health all my 1-5 skills disappear as the game is trying to add the downed skills, it’s quite annoying especially in Tpvp. Anyone else experiencing this annoying bug?
Many thanks

Like infinitus mentioned, I’m lovin the focus in spvp. If I have a condition build I love runnin’ scepter/focus — if somethin else, then sword.
When it comes to up close and personal, I’ve rather liked staff. You’ve got the chaos armor, chaos storm, and typically trait up on some toughness to get that staff recharge. It’s a nice defensive/support weapon and can wear people down while you keep up your momentum.
GS has its knockback when up close, and the #2 and #4 can be decent too — its primary attack outputs more at a distance. I find myself more comfortable using it at a greater range or when I just want to output more raw damage. If I use sword/focus as a backup it can be nice if someone tries to get too close (#2 and then #4 to push ’em away).
Letting people get close though can be risky business, though. Typically melee-oriented classes will have some means to temporarily lock you down in some manner (stuns, dazes, immobolizes). I like having blink to escape if I’m immobolized, or use the staff’s defensive abilities like phase retreat or chaos armor. The greatsword’s knockdown move seems to take a bit of time to cast if you find yourself in a locked-down situation.
It’s a bit of a tossup, really. I would consider what you want to accomplish with your team and select a playstyle you find more suitable for yourself and your team.
thank you very much for the response you make some great points, I think i’m going to look at a build that involves Sword/Focus and staff and possible a full 30 points into Inspiration for Phantasamal Healing, Cause how it feels at the moment that the extra escape and utility is game changing for a mesmer in paid torne’s.
I think the direction now for me now paid is out is to steer away from the glass cannon builds and start to test the sutainable builds out to see how they fare in torne’s cause we have alot of utility to offer and being downed every couple of seconds isn’t helpful to your team mates
I feel that the change to iWarlock isn’t that obvious but even saying that a larger break between casts does mean lower DPS. Also at the moment there are alot of threads about Phase retreat working worse then before the change (which I agree).
I think so far i’m just going to have to test the pro’s and cons of both weapons cause i usually run a phantasm or shatter build.
Also Sword/Focus also looks like a good weapon set for point sitting cause of iwarden and the whole hilarious floor pull thing that never gets old
I lean more towards the greatsword, though that mostly boils down to personal preference in my case. I love casters that wield swords rather than staves, I just wish we had a bleed associated with at least one of our sword or greatsword abilities.
I agree i feel that our 1 skill needs a rework even if it was something like 1 stack of confusion on the last tick of great sword it would be a vast improvement.
Thanks for the response, I feel the same way i’ve always run with staff as the secondary, however after the changes to iwarlock i’m wondering if it’s still worth the Dps loss, However on the other side staff still offers alot of utilty. GS offers alot of AOE Damage, Beserker does very nice damage and a cripple and the 5 ability is great when fighting on a point.
I’ve been questioning this since I did Paid tonre’s last night cause it seems that alot of good teams that i’m fighting are not going glass cannon and that’s the same for the mesmer’s, which makes me think is staff worth the trade off of DPS for the defensive utility it offers?
Hey peeps
since the change i’ve been doing some messing about with builds at the moment and i’m currently running Sword/Sword and GS during tonre’s (both free and paid). I would just like to ask is what do you prefer GS or staff and for what reason, because I love both and they both bring something different to the fight but for something like paid tonre’s going full offensive dosen’t seem to be the way forward so i’d like to see the opinions and advise of the lovely Mesmer community!
many thanks!

All I can say is the gear that I have got from my silver chest was awesome, also i’ve seen a much higher salvage chance for crystals, which makes me very happy!
Nightmare, PvP forge, Kordan? and gold weapons and armor i have got so far!
It’s an interesting idea, though in its simplest form it would cause a lot of problems. Possibly a very good starting point for discussion though.
Perhaps something like:
- Outnumbered on point flips point to neutral after 6-10 seconds
- After that, to regain full point control works as it does nowThat way, bunkers can’t prevent a point being contested indefinitely, but the outnumbering team doesn’t gain full point control until they can actually kill the bunker.
Legi and Xiv these are both great ideas, as me and my guildies have been playing free and paid tonre’s recently and all we seem to get is double or even triple bunker in some cases, which I have no problem as they can be countered but especially with Legacy of the foe fire who ever wins middle first has the upper hand through out the game and it snowballs from that as you just cannot move the bunker.
I think this idea will motivate people to attack points together rather than just charging in by yourself hoping that you can knock him out of the circle which is a task and a half at graveyard :p.
Thanks for the feedback on this change i’m at work at the moment so I cannot test out new builds and the skills. How is staff feeling after the slight tweaks?
1v1 arena? jeez no lol
80% of the fights would be bunker guardian vs random -> guardian wins after 50 minutes because the random said F THIS and quit the match
the other 20% would be 5 hour long matches between 2 thiefs because they cant see each other due to culling issues granting perma invis
You know this would be an idea to be implemented once this balancing issues are resolved as that’s all they are. Arena net are aware of bunker guardians and the rendering issues with stealth. However once there is balance I think it’s more than a viable feature.
This is a fantastic suggestion, Whilst I do try and help out with some of peoples queries and problems with the Mesmer. The option of dueling will allow people to help themselves and do the theorycrafting themselves.
Bump for great justice !
EDIT- Also +1 for 1v1 ranked games that sounds amazing especially in a massive open arena that people can spectate

I think what victor is saying (correct me if i’m wrong) is that the Casual and the pro scene need to be the same like in LoL where a causal game is 5v5 and the ranked games are 5v5.
Also for the argument if you want 5v5 do Tpvp, well some people don’t want to commit to doing a full tournament and some people just want to have a nice causal game to test there profession, build out without any commitment. With Hot-join in the state that it’s in at the moment, 8v8 is too much for the size of the maps and offers no real learning experience to the player.

I completely agree with this video and the comments made 100% it doesn’t matter how polished the game is, if there is no one to play it then what was the point?
The answer there isn’t I can appreciate that LoL did take a while before they finally got a competitive e-sport scene and Arena net need to realize that the main focus is to get the pvp player base actively involved in Spvp. At the moment there is no real active community. I mean the average viewers that you see even the most noticeable streamers have on twitch is 70-80 Max and overall even games like Fifa 13 has a higher viewer count.
The way this can be fixed is to give not just the pro’s a reason to play, but the rest of the PvP community a goal to work towards cause, i know that I want a laddering system so bad on this game. If you give us a reason to play PvP actively then people will want to watch the successful players on there way to the top rather then people randomly doing Tpvp to get a golden chest, ticket and get to a pvp rank which at this moment has absolutely no value.
Don’t get me wrong though i love this game and I want it to succeed, however action is needed and fast because we’re not going to wait forever so someone to once again say ‘When it’s ready’.
Traiting into illusions doesn’t update the Shredding rate tool tip for shatter skills .
From what I can see Phantasmal Swordsman can do – 4.5k (crits) and 1-2k normal attack, which are every 5 seconds. Rangers pets do constant damage which is around 1.3k ish per hit. I understand that there are a few things that are out of balance, and i’m not going to straight up defend the mesmer just because i play it. as i know that fixes to all classes will happen soon enough.
Just a question that screenshot was that in Zerg pvp or Tpvp? The reason i ask is if it was Zerg then it’s possible he wasn’t the only memser hitting you
I can appreciate what you mean in regards to these abilites however this is part of the situational awareness in PvP for GW2. By this i mean if you see a Mesmer use Blurred frenzy, which is the the 2 skill on MH Sword it grants distortion which is a invunerability to damage (however does not avoid DoT’s).
You are not meant to stand there and wait for the mesmer to finish the attack before resume attacking try smacking his team mate a while and then switch back to the mesmer. Same goes with the thief which has alot of evasive/offensive skills like LDB, Infiltartor’s strike, Pistol whip if you see one using these abilities rather staying on the offensive so semi-defensive still they have burnt there cooldowns and then resume on the offensive and put the pressure back onto them. Spvp is very much like tennis alot of the times but a thing that people need to learn and will learn over time playing this game (even myself i’m still in the process of learning this game) is that your cooldowns are not there to be spammed every time it’s up.
This game is based around observing your oppenent to see them waste thier precious cooldowns then using yours with the 100% certainty that they cannot mitiagte that damage to secure a kill.
hope this helps

In light of this idea Necro’s, Rangers and any other pets will now no Damage also seems fair right?
The whole aspect of the mesmer is the illusionist role yes the main mesmer’s damage may be a bit much now an will be balanced in the future. ( I play a mesmer by the way) but the Clones/Phantasams are what make them unique and should be a decent source of damage for the mesmer as removing damage from phantasams would not only kitten them in PvP, but pve and WvW also.

tl;dr. Welcome RUIN/Ruin/ruin. And this week was awesome so far. I don’t really care for the overall points as long as the fighting is good and you see an overall strategy. And this week I finally see it (more or less successful) on all servers.
I mostly play on borderlands and rarely see larger groups of ruin players, it’s mostly IRON/GG/FG. The same bunch that was there the last weeks. Oh and never forget MI.
Pretty much this a warm welcome to all you RUIN folks and good job so far the rest of Deso’s active community!
See you all on the battlefield!

So now thieves are fixed the masses target the next class eh?
Mesmers are fine, however in regards to damage but yes I can agree the portal on khylo does need changing for example dropping the repair kit on porting etc.
@ Larynx The 5 second cast for Moa is pretty obvious and you can see them casting it.
good bleed thieves are scarier than PW/HS thieves anyways
Null field and arcane thievery say hi
Arena net have already stated that they ignore most of Nerf Profession X cause it’s OP and Profession Y needs a buff for sure.
They also said that they have a dedicated team that are playing sPVP on a daily basis so they are aware of what is unbalanced and what is. In my opinion the pistol whip damage reduction was needed for the pure fact it has a stun interlinked with the main ability. Where as Hundred Blades is only damage and if they need to add a stun they require a utility slot to be filled for that one purpose. Also for the fact that Hundred blades has a cooldown and Pistol whip doesn’t.
Trust in Arena net they do know what they’re doing and I play a mesmer and we’ve had a slight balance this patch also and i wouldn’t be suprised if there are more to come. It’s how MMO’s work.
