Constructive Criticism! SPvP and incentives!

Hi all,

This is by no means a QQ post; most of what we read here are biased, ranting, raging or one sided opinions so I thought I would offer some constructive criticism. Maybe to some this is nothing new but I don’t actually take time to read all of the posts so if this has already been treated in the past jump to the next!

I have been over the past week or so playing around with SPvP and I must say that the idea and concepts behind it are great, but the lack of incentives and content make it so we lose interest rather quickly. Now I understand that adding content is not something done easily and since it is a new game I am sure most can live with what we have for a while still…but the incentives need to kick in else SPvP in my opinion will just remain the training grounds for people trying to figure out what build to use and what class they might or might not like…unless that is what Arena Net intended SPvP for in the first place…

Now the idea of keeping players on the same level as far as level and gear goes is a great one…now why not build it up and cash on that idea allowing players to rank up and get better items, enhancements, ect. as their ranks increases, but keeping players of the same ranks together so it doesn’t affect balance…? So if I’m a new player I don’t risk running into geared up opponents that will ruin my gameplay…and by playing against players of the same rank as you, it makes it so it always remains a competitive environment…and it could even be possible for someone to buy ranks if they don’t want to put it the time, adding revenue to finance a dedicated Arena net team that actually has the means to make SPvP flourish…who cares if someone pays their way up the ranks…SPvP in GW2 doesn’t only rely on items…if you haven’t played and practiced…gear only won’t make you a better SPvPer so it will only mean easier kills for the players of actually put in the time…

Of course there is the risk that over time new players might become few and far between and it might become hard to find matches for low levels…but that shouldn’t be an issue since a business model based on no recurring fees should always focus on attracting new customers…and if we include cross server matches it should virtually be impossible to never find a match at whatever level you are in…And it reinforces the suggestion of making it possible to buy ranks to jump up the ladder and go join your friends…or an alt you don’t feel like leveling up the ranks…

It is just an idea but I think most would agree that without a reward or an objective that is actually worthwhile…people lose interest and move on. And without decent profits coming from the PvP side Arena Net won’t invest as much time into it.

In the end everyone wins…we get more content…they get more money.

I’m sure they have stats on the actual number of accounts that are regularily active in the PvP content…or the revenue it brings in vs. the PvE side…should PvP prove to be as profitable they will put all the efforts in to make it worthwhile for the player base…I don’t believe it will ever be the case though. The NA gaming loves their carebear PvE MMos too much…

I agree it is indeed a little weak compared to other weapon combinations…so I use it as a backup to d/d when I want to stay in range…not as powerful as the shortbow but a lot more fun :-) You can use it to keep bleeds up with a bleed build…
