There is a strong difference between daze and stun. Daze only locks out skills, players can still move. Stun = can’t do anything. The stun from PW is the real beast because when hosted you are chaining stuns which means they aren’t moving. When/if they do move or break stun you simply follow up with infiltrators strike for the immobilize. Most people can’t react to both and simply crumple to the ground. Believe me, the build works and works extremely well especially against other thieves. Stability hurts but it only requires tactical planning on when to pop your burst. Bow and sword auto attack are fantastic fill ins for when you need to wait for stability to drop or retaliation to wear off.

To answer your question I never use tactical strike. The only time I ever stealthed was from heal or shadow refuge. Basically the burst goes like this: PW, steal, haste, PW, PW, infiltrators strike (remember it has an immobilize on hit) auto attack, target dead.

Now against a good player they will pop stun break. Opposing thieves would shadow step away so it’s pretty easy to counter. Infiltrators strike in, PW - when they shadow step, steal to them, PW again. If they shadow step back double tap infiltrators strike to teleport back to them, pop haste, PW and dead thief. Can also use your own shadow step to get back in range of them if you’re running low on initiative. The stuns from pw and the immobilize from infiltrators strike are plenty to lock someone down. It’s about movement, lockdowns etc. Rarely used headshot as not worth the initiative unless it was to stop a heal. Beauty of this build is its MUCH better in a team fight as you are not only doing crazy damage you are setting up the rest of your team to spike since the enemy pretty much can’t move.

Too many people convinced backstab lol builds are the only damage. Prior to the haste nerf s/p was emerging in high level tourny play because of the burst and ability to lock down specific targets. I loved completely destroying the other teams thief every time because they couldn’t compete against the advantages of s/p. Alas the nerf to haste was massive against the build so unfortunately it’s a lot less viable now.

You guys are crazy if you think S/P isn’t a viable build. I play strictly high level tPvP and I can assure you a well played S/P thief will destroy any other build on tournament play. Most thieves run d/p or d/d. S/P is a fantastic counter to that as the dazed,lockdowns and teleports will destroy most backstabbing thieves. After the haste nerf not so much unfortunately but saying that s/p isn’t viable is just noobish.

Actually with the recent buffs to minions, a good necro with the right MM build can be nearly impossible to beat 1v1. I’ve recently started playing a MM build (just for fun mind you, it still has no place in tPvP) and I very rarely lose a stand up fight.

Basically I think I’m pretty darn good and I’m looking for other pretty darn good people to play with consistently. I love this game but honestly to enjoy PVP I think you need a good group of people to play with.

I’m looking for a solid team of people to run frees/paids with. I don’t mind losing provided people learn from it, I never rage and I work very well with others.

I’m not trying to sound elitist but I’d like a solid group that knows this game because I feel that’s where I’m at and want to play with other people of high skill.

I generally play from about 2-4pm pst and again from 7-11pm pst every night, so you can count on me being on.

Please PM me or whisper me in game if you’re interested. Perfectly willing to try out, duel etc as well.

No more weapon swapping during game?

I don’t get the whining.

Everyone weapon swapped to get swiftness. This wasn’t skill or countering builds. It just became a mandatory (boring) thing to do.

Not being able to swap utility skills until end of match is huge though. I personally like the idea. Teams won’t know what to expect and I think it makes people commit to their build more. I get that it takes away some of the ability to adapt/counter, but if the other team can’t do that either then doesn’t that in essence balance it back out?

One consistent area I’ve noticed is in Battle of Khylo. With Flesh Golem out, if I take the inner part of the ramp leading up to treb the golem will bug out almost everytime and never attack anything. The treb or a player.

If I hug the outside wall on the way up, and then attack whoever is up there the golem will usually engage fairly quickly without bugging out completely.

To me the issue of minion AI would appear to be tied to pathing more than anything. If they have a direct clear path to something they will usually attack. Round a corner, lose line of sight etc and that’s where things go bad.

So I’ve been gone for a couple weeks and in reading forums and some other sites it appears necro’s are now a must in tPVP? I’ve always thought we were a great class but I’m actually seeing people calling for nerfs to marks/wells now? Is there some new build I’m unfamiliar with?

Necro’s have always had bugs, but in the right hands I’ve always thought them very valuable to a tPVP team as well.

Just curious what the current tPvP thoughts are on them and why am I all of a sudden seeing calls to nerf us?!?

Someone clue me in to what happened in the last few weeks to cause this shift in thinking.

Don’t forget that a larger LF pool also increases damage through Life Blast. That’s one of the bigger bonuses to the trait line in my opinion.

This is a great and easy way to help out the PVP. I would think from a programming point of view that the code is already there since they have free’s and paids, so it should be an easy thing to incorporate.

I think this would add a great way for mid tier teams to get good and play against other mid tier teams without the risk of losing something valuable (tickets) along the way.

Yes, teams could sandbag, but I think more often than not you’ll find pre-made teams that aren’t at the elite level playing each other which makes for a much better PVP environment with little to no effort from ANET to get this going.

Would be awesome if a moderator or dev could acknowledge this and maybe agree to send it to the development team to let us know how difficult this would be to implement!

Necro’s can absolutely destroy treb if using the right build/skills. I dare say I can destroy it almost as fast as an Ele. The advantage Ele has is that they can kite around while destroying the treb where’as the necro needs to focus on the treb for the 4 seconds it takes to kill it.

Funny, we were running tournies tonight and my guild and I were discussing thieves and how people whine about them all over the forums. Our general consensus was none of us worry about them too much. We usually run one thief as a roamer but I don’t think there’s a person on our roster that fears a thief like all these baddies who whine about them do.

Haha Zatria, I’ve seen people complain about everything, I was just trying to be fair across the board.

I have to agree that if you’re pugging tournaments than you probably aren’t having a lot of fun. I know it’s not much fun for us to come across a pug group because it’s not even a challenge.

My point is that I think the people that are the ones complaining the loudest are the ones that are stuck in the sPVP zerg fest or the ones that are pugging tournies. Both of which would be a disaster for someone trying to enjoy this games PVP.

Stay out of sPVP! It’s nothing but a zerg fest and is exactly where all the insta-gib happens that people complain about. It’s great for trying out builds but other than that it will just start to aggravate you.

If you really want to experience the GW2 PVP then you need to join tPVP. Now, if you single join and you aren’t using VOIP then expect to get destroyed by a team that is. It takes very little effort to find 5 people to play with. Understand that VOIP is pretty much essential if you want to do well.

Expect to get owned at first. My guild {AIM} is honestly one of the better PVP guilds I’ve come across. We win 90% of our matches but it wasn’t always that way. We got ROFLSTOMPED in the beginning and it took a few weeks for us to really start to gel together. Now though it’s a completely different story. We work well together, we have a blast and we don’t run what people consider all the OP classes.

I can’t remember the last time anyone was insta-gibbed by a thief or we couldn’t get a bunker off a point. I feel like 99% of the complaints I see on the forums are from bad players getting destroyed in sPVP. When you are in a horde of 9 people guess what’s gonna happen? You’re going to get your kitten whooped. I personally don’t find it much fun and try to stay away from it.

If you’re one of these people that whine about thief DPS, guardian survivability, mesmer moa’s, necro conditions, engi knockbacks, elementalist’s kiting etc then I highly recommend you find some friends, start practicing tournaments, don’t cry when you get stomped and keep on trying. I think you’ll find that you start to agree with the people that say they feel like this game is pretty well balanced overall (it is) and you just might start having a bit more fun then the mass zerg horde that is sPVP.

I think you guys missed my point. I specifically stated that other classes have better burst (thief, I play a nasty backstab build), better survivability (I play a bunker guardian) etc. My point was that I don’t feel any other class has the ability to not be countered by another class like the Necro does. We excel at having a balanced build that can do an awful lot and provide both great damage and great survivability at the same time. I’d say an Engineer would be the next closest thing but they don’t really have a great melee option like Necros’ do.

Also, if you read what I wrote, I said I played “just about” every build for every class. I would think people would equate that to the most common/popular builds for each class.

I’m not bragging, I’m not crying, I’m simply saying that I don’t think there are any other classes out there that can blend both damage and survivability while bringing some much needed tPvP options like a Necro can.

A nice side effect of this is, I fear no particular class like a lot of the popular classes do (bunker, spike, etc all seem to have a particular counter whereas a balanced Necro does not).

I understand that a lot of people are upset that the Necro class has so many bugged traits/issues etc, but what I don’t understand are those that say this class is lacking compared to other classes.

What I love about this class is that so many people under-estimate it. There is a nice synergy between our skills and our weapons and a slew of different ways to play the class all of which can be very viable in the tPvP setting.

I think what sets us apart from other classes is that I have yet to find a class that is a hard counter to my Necro. With a well balanced build I never go “Oh crap, here comes x class, I’m screwed”.

We have the largest health pool of any class and the DS mechanic in my opinion is a great class skill. What other class has a fear, a teleport, an AOE damage skill and a hard hitting single target skill all in one without spending any trait points? Not to mention the entirely additional pool of life it gives you.

I’m not trying to brag by anymeans as I certainly have a lot to learn, but in my opinion, this class when played right can be absolutely brutal.

I’m rank 27, have played just about every build of every class out there and honestly haven’t found a build/class more well rounded and effective in a tPvP setting than my Necro.

My biggest piece of advice would be to try a balanced build in this class. We can have burst, and we can have tankiness but honestly other classes do that much better, however, I have yet to find/play a class that can be as well rounded as we can.

Seems like a good way to find some of the best players out there and get them together to show why this game’s PVP can be an E-sport.

It is certainly the extreme cast time associated with this that is the problem. I tried it several times and honestly people get stomped before you can get this cast off. Now you might be able to start casting before someone goes down and have it work but that isn’t very useful and rarely do you not get interrupted anyway. Fix the cast time and I could see this being a useful signet in the right circumstance.
