What is wrong with nudity?

@Urthona.3198: Very true, all of it. But there are situations and places, aswell as races where naked bodies would just fit in. Slaves, harpies, demons, risen etc. There are many things in the game where a naked chest would fit in much more.

Why would a female demon wear something to cover up her chest? Is she a prude demon or something?

And it’s not uncommon within the young crowd to actually play games where nudity is very precent. For instance Warhammer, Daemonettes of Slaneesh, naked demons, and harpies in Warhammer both old and new are naked. There are other tabletop games, cant remember the name, but they had greatsword wielding barbarian chicks with a wolfskin on their back, something covering their private parts and a bare chest.

Did it kitten up any of us gamers? Nope.

What was disturbing in Warhammer was the Great Unclean one, it had giant manboobs!

In fairness, pretty much the whole Warhammer universe is not even remotely appropriate for children, or probably a lot of younger teens. All of the chaos entities, who represent in large part the primary antagonists, are pretty messed-up, and the world in general is quite dark. Heroic fantasy it is not.

Personally I feel like the many bafflingly unprotective-looking armours for women (and occasionally men) in-game are probably enough skin, I don’t see that nudity would add anything of value to the game (please note that I do not consider titillation to be of value.)

Recruitment for Ruins of Surmia WvWvW Server

Let me see if I’ve got this straight: you are going to go into a server which is primarily PvE people, and, in your own words “do everything possible to ruin their game” if they stubbornly refuse to go along with your cleansing of the PvE element to form a ‘pure’ WvW server? Nevermind the fact that there will, inevitably, be PvE and sPvP players on any server you pick since there is only one ‘type’ of server, and any of these ‘undesirables’ can join WvW whenever they want.

Sorry, not going to give you any kudos or pretend this is totes legit. That is pathetic and despicable behaviour. Despite what you may want, PvE’ers and sPvP’ers have as much right to play on any server as you do. It’s not about trying to ‘get’ any servers, it’s just about where and how people feel like playing. Shame on you all for trying to push people around and dictate where they play with their money and their free time.

Stay classy, people.

Loud pet/minipet footsteps?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Ok this is not a gamebreaking bug by any means, but I have noticed on several occasions that my ranger pet’s footsteps will suddenly become bizarrely loud and ‘thumpy’ to the point of being disruptive. I had thought it was only my ranger pet, and only to myself, but it has also happened in Fractals where guildmates will also hear my pet thundering along all of a sudden. It doesn’t happen to all of us at the same time (so for example last night a guildie had the bug whereas everything sounded normal to me), and it seems to happen mainly during combat. It also seems to happen mainly with the brown bear, and the brown bear mini; I don’t know if it is specific to them as I use the bear as my primary pet pretty much all the time and swap in others (eg moa, raven) less often.

I don’t know if I am inadvertently hitting some combination of keys that would trigger it but I can’t see how that would affect other people’s sound settings in any event.

Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to fix it?

How many here are playing less? And why?

I’ve been playing somewhat less since I hit 80, and more specifically since I finished my personal storyline and got 100% map completion (which eventually boiled down to checking WvW several times a day in case we had Stonemist.) I then did all the jumping puzzles because I’m apparently a masochist, and tried to join in Lost Shores but couldn’t really participate due to the bugginess. I found the whole event weekend disappointing.

In retrospect I wish I’d levelled up a different character first, or not gone for 100% map completion right away because now I feel less interested in levelling an alt having already gone through all the hearts, the dungeons and a lot of the DE. Might level another toon when I’ve had more time to sorta forget everything, so it’s more fresh.

I think I am just too casual for the effort needed to work for a legendary to seem worthwhile and there aren’t normally enough people online in my guild to do a lot of dungeon runs (don’t particularly enjoy all of them either, some are all right but some of them aren’t really the kind of challenge I like, I don’t find repeating the same ‘damage-dodge from one-shot down attack-repeat’ for 10-15 minutes to be fun. Could do with some tweaks on some of the dungeon fights I think, keep the punishing mechanics but reduce the health/fight length, or vice versa maybe.)

I suppose that is the upside of not having a sub though, I can always come back in a few months if I fancy it. I may be pretty behind on gear but I’m not going for bleeding edge content so I don’t really care.

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

I agree with the OP, I find the one-time only, clock-based events to be unrealistically restrictive on a significant proportion of the playerbase (who may not be able to reschedule three days of their lives around the game and risk losing out on all the fun if they don’t), not to mention adding an unnecessary strain on the servers. Why not extend the time period, keep the ‘world-changing’ stuff to a cutscene or otherwise included in an instanced/phased/personal storyline setting? Why does it have to hit every player simultaneously or not at all?

The event did not fit in with the quoted design philosophy in any way.

I am somewhere between 2 and 3 at the moment. I have been disappointed with this event pretty much from the start but this last day has been…‘shocked’ seems like it should be too strong a word for something as relatively trivial as a videogame event but honestly, in over a decade of MMO gaming I don’t think I have ever seen any kind of event go quite this badly wrong in so many ways and on such a scale, and with so little recognition or communication from the developers. If things are so wrong it takes more than a quick hotfix to repair them, pushing ahead to introduce more problems instead of pausing to sort the existing problems is tantamount to madness.

Seriously, seriously disappointed and frankly gobsmacked at this whole weekend.

Investigation by Miyani bugged?

On the off-chance that forum feedback really will be taken on board…

I just want to add my voice to the people expressing disappointment about this event. As a starting point, I will freely admit that I just don’t like the idea of super ‘one-time only’ events because I think we should schedule gameplay around our lives, not the other way around. For me, at least, things are more fun when I don’t have to do them, I just want to. Unless it is something really, truly game-changing (thinking of Cataclysm in WoW completely altering the map, for example), I see no reason why any event is fixed to the clock and can only happen once – and even then, why it could not happen in other ways, such as via a cinematic the first time someone logs in, or as part of a triggered quest chain with phasing. It’s just something I dislike and kind of disagree with on principle.

Even apart from that, there’s then the issue that one-time events put a huge, sometimes unworkable strain on the servers because such a huge number of players are grouping in the same place at the same time. The culling and invisi-mob issues have been well discussed by others so I won’t belabour the point; I will simply agree that it makes it less immersive and often intensely frustrating.

Finally, whilst I understand that the developers are committed to a punishing schedule of new content releases – and this is not in itself a bad thing, since new content is generally what keeps an MMO fresh and vibrant – I am disappointed that the commitment seems to be to the schedule rather than to the outcome of player enjoyment and participation. Seeing these responses, it seems that maintaining the already tight three-day schedule is being given preference over breaking the schedule and allowing people to actually participate in the events, and it feels as though you value the idea of the game more than the actual players. Why host a party if no guests can attend? You’re celebrating an empty room.

To sum up, I agree that these events need serious reconsideration for the future. If you must have strictly time-limited events, rather than ‘event periods’ over a week or two, then you need better communication, both before and during the event; better testing of the event content itself and the extreme conditions under which it will be functioning; and more flexibility as and when things go wrong, which, as in anything, they inevitably will from time to time.

Sincerely,
A Disappointed Customer
