Koning de Todes

1) The Deep Sea Dragon is heavily implied via quaggan, krait, and largos lore to be in the Unending Ocean – not near Cantha.

You should check the maps again. The Unending Ocean is the biggest body of water on the planet and connects all the continents. Unlike the other Dragons, The Deep Sea Dragon can extend its influence all over the world in any continent it wishes and can change its base of operations. Since Cantha is a traditional naval power, it only makes sense to cast him as the main supernatural enemy of the empire.

I just hope they become closer to the concept art. I don’t like the winged humanoid look at all. Even more if Arenanet is planning to make them the second playable race along with the Tengu. They remind me the Oni in Gw1.

The Dragon Empire and the Elder Dragons

Legion.4198

Personally I would prefer if we learn about what some people call the “Celestial Dragon” in Cantha, but we don’t meet him until another expansion. It could be used as the main force driving our characters beyond Tyria and a nice mystery to be solve, perhaps the last piece necessary to defeat all the dragons at once and forever.

Meanwhile, being Cantha a natural Naval Power, the Deep Sea Dragon would be the main enemy of the Empire. I think the Guild Wars would benefit from having more down-to-earth villains and even antagonist other than the Elder Dragons. I’m not calling for the replacing the Dragons but more a change in POV.

Make a villains and antagonists who are genuinely sympathetic, even admirable, with clear goals but have to be stopped because their plan involve unacceptable sacrifices or are soo obsessed with the Dragons that they would do anything to stop them regardless of the cost and we have to stop them.

Rebuilding the Falcon Company - Home Instance Side-stories

I feel like the Home instance are a bit underused since it only serves as backdrop for some missions and its importance only diminishes as the storyline advances. I think it would be useful to come back and use the home instances to add some simple unmarked side-stories for our character that have nothing to do with your quest against the Dragons. For example, giving us the chance to rebuild the Falcon Company. These sidestories would cause subtle changes to your instances and expand the characters we meet during the main storyline thus giving more life to your Home Instance and a reason to visit it from time to time.

How you 'get' spellcasting in the world?

Since most of the armies have an evident scarcity when it comes to warmages, I would say that either learning is incredibly difficult or you have to be born with it. Given that you can be a streetrat mage, I would say the later is more probable.

Without a heir, any monarchist goverment risk civil war. All nobles want the crown after all and will conspire to get it. A King without a heir is in an extremly vulnerable position because any potential conspirators wouldn’t need to factor the princess, thus reducing any coup to a single assassination.

Legion.4198

When we look at the progresses made in Tyria when it comes the adventuring beyond Zhaitan’s blockade, a major problem becomes evident. The continent of Tyria has grown, advanced and expanded completely isolated from the rest of the world. This means that all the technologies and magic developments made during the last one hundred years have not spread outside of the continent of Tyria.

This become a major issue when we consider that fundamental gameplay elements such as Asura Gates, Waypoints, and even the skills and weapons for some professions such as the Engineer, depend entirely on the existence of cultures with at least the same technological level as in the continent of Tyria. This makes technological progress outside of the continent imperative and demands the existence of at least one source of advance technology and tools for every single future Guild Wars 2 expansion. Without it, there won’t be new skills for the Engineer, new rifles for the Warrior or new pistols for the Thieves. Scientific and technological progress is mandatory to provide the basic needs for the technological-minded professions.

Both Cantha and Elona, have access to an old Asura Gate and could be reverse-engineered. On the other hand, the Order of Whispers could have spread some technologies, true, but we also need native development. One thing Tyria doesn’t have is expertise in the field of Deep Water navigation. Unlike the nations trapped in Tyria, Cantha and Elona have been free to sail the global seas unopposed by Zhaitan’s forces for a hundred years. This allows wide room for both nation to growth outside their core territories and increases the opportunities for interaction between the two Empires and the world beyond (something I believe it has been lacking in Gw), in form of trade, communication, war etc. It also grants opportunities for both Empires to expand their influence beyond and with it expand the technology all over the world.

With Guild Wars 2 set somewhere between the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution, this would be an unique opportunity to keep expanding the ideas of avoiding Medieval Stagnation and move the world into the Age of Discovery, Exploration and Colonial Imperialism. Both Cantha and Elona could have a multitude of overseas colonies by the time we arrive, Cantha would probably have the upper hand thanks to being a traditional naval power superior to everyone else. Turn the Xunlai into something similar to the East Indias Company or something. Thus, the always present problem of having to provide skills, weapons and tools for the technological-minded professions and at the same time explaining technological development would be solved for every future Expansion/DLC in a single move.
