I’ve done jade maw in fotm a few times but have to admit I’ve never actually “thrown a crystal” back at jade maw himself.
When jade maw puts the little skull icon above your head and you grab a crystal, are you actually supposed to “throw it back” at jade maw? The reason i ask is I don’t see any attack options on the toolbar (number keys 1-5), they are all blank when holding the crystal. Are we supposed to use one of the F1-f4 keys (if they exist for crystal)? Or does the crystal automatically redirect the beam if you are holding it? If you are supposed to throw the crystal back after u get “beamed”, how long do you have before the AI forces you to drop the crystal? Seems like the game only lets you hold onto the crystal for few secs
It all happens so fast (for me, at least, cuz im old), so I end up just dodging the beam. But would like to learn the best way to deal max damage back if i’m doing it wrong
thanks

I like the swamp. Cheers to robert and co for the fotm dungeons, as they are excellent.
There are enough clues in this thread for people having trouble with the swamp, those who still post about it being too tough at this point just need to read the thread
Who else got a little surprise last night/today? Ie had an alt parked at the rich Ori mine at the top of the ramp.. only to login and have a Karka champ sitting on your face?
p awesome actually well played Anet
with “infinite levels”, this will get interesting. Though at a certain point, people will be happy with a range i would assume, ie “lfg fotm 20-25”
You are eligible for the event ONE time per account.
This solves all the problems. Why? Let’s take a look.
.
Imo it does not solve ALL the problems but I agree, it is the foundation and most important feature.
Other suggestions to help other problems:
1) Have the event instanced, like dungeons. Reason? If there is “maintenance” or a new build like the fiasco at the end of this last event, everyone will have 3 hours instead of 3 minutes, etc
2) Availability — even 24 hours will mean some get left out. Maybe over the course of a whole weekend? Even better, maybe for a whole week?
Whatever ensures the best chance that everyone, regardless of race, profession, timezone or gear gets one shot to get the rewards on one character and one character only. Allowing alts to run the instance just ensures people will be kittened that they couldn’t run it for the n’th time, etc
I don’t know rift, but if the consensus is that they set the standard then yeah, why reinvent the wheel
But this, this is a masterpiece. From the horrible core concept of one-time events that occur in the middle of a workday for most of the playerbase, to the servers grinding to a smoking halt in the bigger fights, to the piece de resistance of shutting down the game for a patch when the group I was in had the boss in the final stage and were literally seconds away from downing him after hours of laggy hell, there was not one facet of this experience that was not perfectly crafted to troll your customers. The fact that players had to collaborate outside of the game to even make it into instances where they could attempt to play through the event, only to then have the event crash on them and make them start again from square one, really brings me back to the golden days of MMORPGs. That rare sensation of having a game designer’s genitals pressed against my cheek while their hips gyrate and I sob quietly is not something I’ve experienced from any other online game in recent memory………My hat is off to you, sirs.
pure poetry

Runes
It seems a bit hasty to conclude that the new ascended gear are a “must have” for situations other than ones where baddies can inflict “agony”. Looking for the positives here – I don’t think Anet will make exotics obsolete (and clearly piss nearly everyone off) and force people into a gear treadmill for “must-haves”.
The Ascended gear does not account for set bonus given by runes. If anything, perhaps the Ascended gear might become a “third set/fourth set” that one wears for specific instances if they choose to do them (when bored with Plinx, etc). MF set, wvw set, now Ascended set for Fractals.
Many seem to be jumping to the conclusion that the difference between, say, an Exotic coat or pants vs the Ascended coat/pants will be of X% such that Ascended will necessarily make exotics obsolete. We simply do not know this to be the case yet, escpecially considering the lack of rune options on the Ascended.
i’m very nub with armor sets still o.o
So i purchased some Valkyrie lvl 80 exotic armor (power/vit/3% crit dmg) and equipped it over my Explorer Noble legs (power/prec/+3% magic find.. with an Opal orb in it)
My base crit % went down 3% (from 31% to 28%) with the Valk legs on.
I have one other explorer piece currently equipped.. is there a set bonus to Explorer set that i am missing (ie 3% crit if you wear two pieces)? I’ve been googling but dont see the set bonuses for Explorer Noble set..

this was very silly. Took about 10 to 15 times using Sinth’s method
