Thanks for the input folks!
Hi folks,
I’m in process of leveling up a warrior, and i’m a huge fan of the hammer. I love the playstyle and the “smash smash” aspect to it; however, as I understand it the damage is not as good as a greatsword or axe.
Are there any hammer builds viable in high end fractals/pve (arah, etc.) that can serve as a cc/dps role or should I make the switch to greatsword/axe for these situations?
One of the issues I see is that it’s incredibly easy to build a powerful condition build while being very defensive as well (e.g., Rabid) due to the nature that condition damage only needs one stat.
Power builds require a multitude of stats to perform well (which generally requires a significant loss in defense) and are heavily affected by blinds, blocks etc on their large attacks. Condition builds can easily reapply conditions with very little difficulty.
Toughness serves as passive defense against power builds, while condition damage has no passive defense — condition removal is the only active counter to it — and condition damage is much more easily applied than it is removed.
Until some of these core issues are resolved, I don’t think we’ll see a heavy shift away from the condition Meta for some time.
Thanks for the replies folks! I already have a condi engi, so if at all possible I would prefer to go the power route on this character. I’m also a fan of the hammer, and would likely pair the hammer with the sword + x. Appreciate everyone’s input!
Hi folks,
finally taking the plunge and decided to level a warrior. Really a fan of the 1h sword; however, it seems to be primarily focused on bleeds/snares.
Can a power build be effective with a 1h sword build, or do you pretty much need to build with condition damage? Thanks!
Make money with interest =) E.g., buy me a precursor, and i’ll pay you back over 3 months with interest!
Win win for both of us =)
Sanctum of Rall open
Hi folks,
I currently play a Guardian on Sanctum of Rall and i’m currently looking for a guild, PvX, with a typical playtime of evening to late evening PST. My playtime tends to be casual on weekdays, due to the nature of my work, although i’ll often put at least a few hours in; however, I am very active during weekends.
I’ve had experience running most of the dungeons/paths (pretty close to my dungeon master title), and I dabble in SPvP/WvW as well when I have a good crowd that i’m able to run with. As such, I am looking for a mature group of players with similar play schedules and experience. Please let me know if you have a community of players that fits this description and is recruiting =)
The problem with swiftness in this game, is that aside from it’s combat perks, it’s used as a major method for increasing travel speed. Now, this would be fine if swiftness access and sustainability were equal for all classes. Other MMOs solve this problem by the concept of mounts — every player has equal access to a mount, and that solves travel speed balance.
In this game however, where waypoints take the place of mounts — there is a severe lack equality with different classes and access to swiftness.
Either I feel that ArenaNet should take another pass at swiftness for all classes, or do something similar to what Secret World did, and add a “Travel Sprint” toggle buff that you can use out of combat only that dramatically increases run speed simply for traveling and exploring purposes.
Thank you, I appreciate your very well articulated and excellent response!
Hi folks,
for competitive tournament play, are guardians expected to play as, or reduced to bunker builds — or are they able to play more offensively and/or roaming as well?
Any input is appreciated, thank you.
I love sword/shield combo, my only issue with it in dungeons and fractals is that it offers absolutely no combo fields or combo finishers. The utility that these offer in groups is substantial.
Invites sent out; octo.7123 your guild memberships are full — was unable to invite you mate.
Additionally, I’ve added an additional rank: Dungeon Leader. This rank is for those who actually wish to lead dungeon groups. Please let me know if you would like to be bumped to this rank — this should help with coordinating groups and allow members to message the dungeon leaders.
Hi folks,
just wanted to reiterate that everyone has invite privileges in the guild. If you group with a friend, or see an invite request on the forums please feel free to invite them. Regarding groups, i’ve done my best to include a lot of you folks — but the amount of tells and messages I get each day are absolutely astronomical (apparently this guild concept is far more popular than I imagined).
One thing I would recommend to make it easier — if you are actively looking for an Arah group/run — represent the guild during that time, to let all folks in the guild taking a peep at the roster that you’re interested in a run — this would save a lot of time on sending random tells to folks in the guild.
My playing time is quite quirky, as I live in Hawaii so I don’t typically play during your average prime time. To those whom I haven’t got a chance to group with or answer your invite request quickly, I sincerely apologize!
NOTE: If there is enough interest, I may look at getting a voice server (Vent, TS, etc) for the guild’s dungeon groups if there is enough interest. Please let me know your thoughts. I’ll send out invites in a moment when I log on.
Invites sent out — most folks aren’t representing, but please feel free to message folks if you’re interested in getting a run together. You can also represent to let people know you are looking for an arah group. I’ve had quite a few successful runs so far with different members.
One way a group can bypass the gate door bug is by having a mesmer parked on the inside that can port you in. For this reason, I keep a mesmer parked inside the gate on an almost consistent basis.
Congrats JJ – glad to hear you got it.
Hey folks — just a head’s up everyone in the guild has invite privileges, so if there is someone you run with on occasion, welcome them aboard. For those whom I had the pleasure of grouping with, thank you — was an excellent run. I look forward to running with more of you as well.
I’d be interested — i’m actually looking at getting some like-minded players together to do Arah runs.
Excellent suggestion RitLew — guild has been created and will send invites out.
For those who are interested: guild name is ARAH PATHFINDERS — I’ll send an invite to anyone interested who posts in this topic.
If we get enough interest, I’ll look at getting us a Teamspeak channel.

That’s fine. Also folks, if you could list your preferred playing time for dungeon runs, that would be most helpful for getting a group together.
Saturday, Sunday (PST) – Variable/Any
Monday – Friday – 9PM PST – 12/1AM PST
Hi folks,
I’m looking for a coordinated group to get together and run Arah exp on a persistent (or atleast somewhat persistent) basis. I’m available most weekends although my playing hours are pretty late on weekdays (play in HST timezone).
Classes I can bring when needed:
Mesmer
Guardian
Engineer
Please let me know if this is something anyone would be interested in.
Just thought I would chime in here real quick.
Regarding clones replacing phantasms; clones will never replace a phantasm unless there are no clones up at the time. E.g., if you have 2 phantasms up and 1 clone up, the scepter skill will replace the current clone. However, if you have 3 phantasms up but no clones, the scepter will replace one of the phantasms with a clone.
Hope that clarifies things a bit.
Did CoF explore mode 2 for the first time after hitting 80, and got 15 tokens. Run took approximately 35 minutes. After that, did AC explore path 2 and only got 6 tokens.
I didn’t run any dungeons prior to this, in fact, I haven’t run a dungeon on this character at all prior to this.
