Are there any viable builds with a staff for Ele in PvP?
I just finished Bolt, and then this beautiful time keeper sword comes out . . . Sigh =(
Hi folks,
I know that both power and condi builds are viable in PvE; however, I’m curious what would be the go to build for a WvW (not solo roam – more group/zerg oriented). Any comments are appreciated!
Hi folks,
I’m aware of the carrion frostfire build for the Reaper, but i’m curious as to on a competitive scale, which is generally more effective in pvp, a power of condition build? Or are both completely viable in competitive play?
Thanks for the feedback Drarnor. Another question for you all — how does Reaper Condi DPS compare to other top tier classes? (e.g., Condi Engi, Berserker, Power Herald, Tempest).
I’m curious to hear this as well — currently, is power or condition preferred in raids and fractals? I currently have an ascended zerker set on my Necromancer/Mesmer, and while I like the GS/power in general, the lack of ranged options on a Power necro and the slow animation has caused some problems. I also like a playstyle that I can adopt for both PvE and PvE (e.g., Condi or Power). Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
What are your thoughts on Power v. Condi Necro for raiding in general? Which generally will be more useful as an overall note?
Thanks for the feedback folks, much appreciated. On another note, in doing fractals and the raid, would condition as an engineer be the preferred damage there, or would power hammer (or rifle) be equally viable as well? Just recently came back to the game after a long break and currently trying to catch up. Thanks!
Hi folks,
I’ve been having a blast with the Engineer in HoT! Previously, I’ve played as a power rifle/hammer build, but looking to build a viper set to play a condition build; however, I’m curious as to whether conditions engineer is viable in Spvp and WvW? (I know it’s perfectly viable in PvE ) I tend to prefer to stick to one central playstyle, and was hoping that I could be competitive with a condition build in comparison to the scrapper hammer meta.
Any thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
Hi folks!
I’ve absolutely fallen in love with my Revenant, and was look to build a legendary (Juggernaut – Hammer); however, I know with new HoT legendaries coming out, I was looking for some advice as to whether I should hold off going for the Juggernaut and wait to see what comes out in the HoT packs, or… go for the Juggernaut? (For those of you who have the weapon, what are your thoughts on it on a Rev?)
Thanks!
I absolutely love the animations and playstyle of Mace —- but…seconded for the reasons above.
Hi folks,
I have a question (or potential concern depending) for you folks regarding the upcoming raid on November 17th. Seeing as how condition damage reigns supreme due to increased armor/toughness/hp of enemies in higher level fractals, do you expect raids to follow this format, thereby relegating power to an inferior position? I’ve fallen in love with my Revenant, but concerned that I may not be as competitive in a power build for raiding content. Thanks!
Would Rune of the Berserker be viable for a Condi Revenant? (+5% damage and 5% condition damage)
Hi folks,
Recently got into the game again and falling in love with the Revenant. I do have one question though.
I absolutely love the animations and playstyle of mace/axe; and would love to play this style competitively and in PvE, but due to the nature of torment in PvE with lack of movement, I know it tends to be sub-par to the power meta. Are there any adjustments planned for the Corruption line to make Torment (or condi for a Revenant) more viable in PvE for fractals, PvE, etc.? Any comments are greatly appreciated!
For high level fractals, would shield be a viable alternative to axe? I absolutely love shield, but understand the value that axe provides with regard to break bars and teleports.
My sincere condolences to both your gaming and the immediate family for the loss. As far as appropriateness of a monument — due to the impact that Guild Wars had on this group of players, the request is in my opinion, both appropriate, and a heartfelt request to address their community’s grief.
thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated!
Hi folks,
I’m looking to craft a set of ascended armor for my guardian; however, i’m in a conundrum as to what to craft. Playstyle includes a lot of open world, a bit of dungeon/fractaling and mix of Zerg WvW and roaming.
I know for WvW group meta, soldier is the supposed way to go; however, i’m looking to craft a set that ideally, I could use in more than just group wvw. For those of you who play multiple playstyles and have crafted ascended armor, is there a particular set you made that worked? E.g., mix of knight, etc. Any comments are greatly appreciated, thanks!
The irony right now is that my wife plays LoTRO (we both are lifer’s there). Lotro environments never cease to amaze me, and ironically, the game and leveling pre-moria I never fail to get nostalgic about, but post Moria I lost interest rapidly.
With regard to ESO, I am a fan of the game as well, and love the dialogue, quests, and atmosphere…but to say that classes/characters were equal there is a bit of a stretch. For the longest time, magic damage reigned supreme both in PvE and AvA (aka, Dragon Knight with Destruction Staff), and stamina builds suffered immensely.
Ultimately however, GW2 never fails to draw me back in. I am a casual player by nature, and the reward system, which offers very limited gains from exotic to ascended, is just enough of a carrot to keep me working for it, while not being so advantageous as to limit me in my gameplay. The pvp, wvw, and open world environments keep me well engaged.
Hi folks,
I recently started playing the game (and necro) again, and I could use your advice on rune selection. I’ve got a set of ascended armor, so at all possible, I would prefer not to craft an additional set just for a different set of runes, so i’m looking for suggestions.
Primarily, I play open world, with a mix of WvW zerg/group and roaming. I do the occasional fractal every now and then as well. I’ve currently got traveler’s runes equipped, but i’ve been contemplating switching to strength (I play pretty much exclusively a power build).
Can you give any input as to what you would recommend, and why? And/or, are there any other rune combinations you would recommend for my playstyle. Much appreciated, thanks!
Have all emails gone out, or are more coming?
I began playing GW2 on launch…no beta invite =(
@Wyn.5724: Impressive use of color and armor selection.

Brb to change engineer’s name to Charrgineer
Love some of these looks — you’re all awesome, keep it going! -- an alternate look to my Charrgineer with some inspiration from others in this thread.
Hi folks,
I’ve been experimenting with my guardian again and having fun with meditation builds; however, to my knowledge the guardian bunker is no longer in the meta environment, and meditation builds don’t quite accomplish the same role as other classes fulfilling that role. Am I mistaken in what I’ve read, or are there any meditation guardians in a competitive PvP environment? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Anytime, good luck!
I’ve leveled multiple classes to 80 and honestly have the most fun on the engineer, just due to the variability in play. With regard to race, it depends on what you want to go for:
Human: Looks good in the most wide range of armors, highest armor variability options. Average look.
Charr: Savage, bestial, large look — tends to look great in heavy armor, very poor to mediocre in medium and light. A lot of armor clipping and stretching issues.
Norn: Large, brutish, aggressive. Looks great in a lot of armor, but similar to Charr, can have some clipping and stretching issues.
Sylvari: Elf-sprite like – -Similar to human in that the race fits a lot of armors, but tends to look most natural with cultural armors. Skin/hair glow is a definite unique plus, but tree-like facial expressions can be a turn off for many people.
Asura: honestly has some of the most “fun” animations, jumping, and movement throughout the world. Light armor tends to look great on Asura, but downside is that you’re a bit smaller so gear setups don’t show as well, and can have some clipping/downsizing issues with armor.
Hi folks,
I’m looking to start building an ascended set of gear, but the trouble is, I don’t know what to build —- Zerker (or Assassins), Celestial, or Knights. In terms of playstyle, I do a lot of solo or small group PvE with the occasional dungeon/fractal mixed in; while also roaming/small group WvW with the occasional zerg here and there.
With this play style in mind, how would you recommend I build my Ascended gear set? Due to the exorbitant cost, I’m hesitant to spend a lot of money on a gearset that will only be viable in one aspect of the game.
Any comments are greatly appreciated, thank you!
Edit: I should clarify that I use primarily 2-3kit/rifle builds — but wouldn’t be opposed to using pistol/shield if you would recommend a more condition focus for an ascended gear setup.

Hi folks,
I’ve leveled two engineers up to 80 (Charr and Human), but i’m in a terrible conundrum as to which one I want to focus on for future content. I like both races in my selected gearset and could use YOUR input as to what you think is preferable in appearance for general world/pvp play. I’d like also to keep in mind that with Heart of Thorns, Hammer is an expected weapon type for Engineer as well. Any comments/input are greatly appreciated, thank you! (I also accept feedback on armor appearance/dye options as well)

It’s doable, but difficult coming up with a uniquely Sylvari look. This is what I’ve come up with — although still debating on the flame dye as a primary color (contemplating sapphire blue, for a more guardianish accompanying color)
Thanks for the input folks! For T1, is it even still possible to transfer to these servers? every time i’ve checked they have been full. I’m also still considering T2 — my main concern is strictly to have enough fights to keep wvw interesting during my standard play time. Thanks again!
Hi folks,
I’ve recently come back to the game, and looking to get back into WvW. I live in Hawaii, so my playtime tends to be NA late night hours (9PM PST- ~1AM PST). For consistent and competitive PvP, would T2 or another Tier be viable for this time, or should I really look at transferring to T1 if/when it becomes available to transfer to (Full right now). Any input is appreciated!
7.5/10 for lack of originality, but awesome unique reference with leafy plant guy =)

Thanks! For clarification on higher fractals, is hammer pretty much required — or will greatsword work as well?
I appreciate the response, thank you. For guardian, is greatsword or hammer the preferred organized/zerg choice? Or are they pretty much equal in that aspect?
Hi folks,
I recently came back to the game, and looking both to get into fractals and into competitive WvW. In addition, i’ve got the mats necessary to obtain a legendary, but can’t decide between a Greatsword or Hammer. I like both legendaries, but i’m trying to figure out which is more used in dungeon/fractal PvE and competitive WvW/SPvP. Any comments are greatly appreciated!
Hi folks,
I’m getting back into the game after a long break, but i’m stuck with a conundrum.. I’m currently on a T1 server but i’m debating what class to really focus on in WvW — Engineer, or Guardian.
I enjoy both classes fairly evenly (with perhaps a slight edge to the Engi) and for different reasons; but due to the concept of GWEN in competitive WvW maps, i’m concerned that my Engi won’t be as competitive, or will be able to participate as effectively. Moreover, i’m on the cusp of getting a legendary, and need to decide which class to get it for (aka, Hammer for Guardian or Rifle for Engi).
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thank you!

8/10 for Scarr Soulrend
9/10 for Anubis Soulfire — oddly enough I really like this name for a female Charr

I’m getting back into the game again and wanted to ask: with regard to three kit, are there any viable builds that utilize the rifle instead of pistol? And are there any power based spvp builds, or is it all condition based for engi?
Could I get an invite as well?
Does hammer work in high level fractals?
