First off thank you for all the fine advice I plan on trying all your tips xD

And I would suggest considering overclocking that CPU to 4.5-4.6Ghz. While the Single thread on the FX is slower then Intel, CPUs seem to do better on this game at 4.6Ghz~.

second I have a question about overclocking. I know how to do it, I’ve done my research. However I cannot decided weather my current cooling setup is sufficient to support it.

I have a Noctua NH-D14 sitting on my CPU and 7 120 mm fans in total. (2 intake on front and sides 2 exhaust on the top and 1 in back) Out of the box I have never seen my CPU go over 37 degrees while stressed.

I was told go liquid cooling if i plan on overclocking. I’m just mad nervous about leaks and what not. Let me know what you think I am in the process of tweaking all of my settings :P

Noctura makes good cooling devices. You don’t NEED to go liquid to overclock, but many recommend it. All cpu’s are different, some wont overclock over 4.3 even if you have some kind of liquid setup. And some will overclock to 5.0 on air. Dont shoot for 4.6 off the bat, take baby steps. try something like 4.0 and play GW2 for a few hours.
If your PC doesn’t crash, try 4.1. wash, rinse, repeat.

If you decide you want a liquid setup, closed loops are fairly safe and not much more $ than good air heatsinks.

yeah closed watercooling setups dont cost much more than good air coolers, BUT good air cooler will keep your cpu as cool as cheap closed water systems…

check this out if you want best air cooler http://phanteks.com/PH-TC14PE.html its as efective as cheap closed systems and costs less.

Normal behaviour, happens on Every single cpu/GPU compination. Even on the most powerfull on the market.

Isnt it good that game utilizes +90% of the horsepower your cpu can output? What ur saying game should use 50% instead and BE unplayable in Every area?

Everything whats not in use is just waste of power.

It seems to me, the more players in one area the bigger the drop.

Isnt that quite obvious? More things at screen=lower FPS, since it needs more horsepower.

you should try prime95 or intelburn test instead of games if you want to see its not overheating, or atleast demanding games like BF4, GW2 or something similar which really uses CPU to the max levels.

also test your GPU with similar testing softwares(ie. furmark) as those tends to overheat in laptops more likely than CPU.

Neverwinter on highest settings is quite demanding, though… :p

i would say the game is not demanding if your laptop with low-end video cards can run it on highest settings, just my opinion thougth.

2. some times the fans were slightly noisy before the crash, but most times they weren’t and 3. I checked the temperature with Speccy as soon as it had restarted and everything was normal

we need numbers

Our definition of normal is not he same as yours. Your laptop is probably old enough for the thermal paste to start drying up

NVIDIA GeForce 610M.

errr…. this gpu is pretty terrible

I’m a bit too lazy to write everything down at the moment so here’s a screenshot. This is what I’m talking about when I say ‘normal temperatures’.

And I know, my graphics card isn’t that great, but not all of us can afford the best of the best. For now, I’m pretty happy with my laptop, as it runs anything I want it to run, smoothly, and in these 2 years, it has never given me any troubles except when playing GW2.

those look like idle numbers. We are more worry about on load temps

YUP those are idle numbers, i own asus laptop with same cpu and itse easily hitting MID 80c under load, thougth never crashing.

Well, is there any way to make my fps tolerable?I mean seriously I spent some money on this rig to play games, have played the most cpu and gpu demanding games and cannot run a ******** GW2?Is this real??

YUP its real, ive spend about 1300e maybe more for my i7-4770k+r9 290(both OC to maximium with air cooling) setup and cant maintain reasonable FPS on wvw…

Next upgrade i can Make is Invest 1,5k euros for i7 extreme cpu and motherboard…..which OFC is noway vice since performance gain would BE like max. 15% at best in some programs..

Whatever…It is just sad….In any cpu-based games I was running it fine and somehow, after a mysterious patch or tweak, gw2 forces me to upgrade my CPU to have CHANCE to get a little bit better frames per second….

U dont have a change even after upgrade….or perhaps IF u Invest 5k euros for dual i7 extreme setup u can run it with reasonable FPS..

Download prime95 or superPI and monitor clockspeed with cpu-z while running those, perhaps speccy just shows wrong? Also run 3dmark so u can BE sure IF your cpu underperforms.(check what same processor should score and compare your own result to that)

Also go to BIOS and check power saving options again, so your cpu can take nap when ur not doing anything.(Also not so high bills!)

You should start looking at intel 4rd generations(haswell) i5 cpu and New AMD r9 series GPU, if u want max effiency for your money.(AMD cpu got better performance for money, but in gw 2 those dont shine since they have lower horsepower per core)

Also go to some techsite ie. Afterdawn.com, and ask for PC setup there, most likely you will get alot better responses as those guys help PPL everyday with same things.

Check NVIDIA control panel for image quality settings, IF those are set to performance instead of quality game will look far worse.

IF that is not the case try newest beta drivers or couple version older drivers. Remenber always delete drivers before installing New ones or there maybe glitches etc.
