this kind of issue is at end of the “To do” list, since not everyone have SLI its like 0,1% of the community who actually have dual card setup. anyway SLI/CF configurations have alot of proplems compared to single card setups in like everygame/software.

start looking mouse driver software perhaps(update, reinstall etc.), i have been using those keys from start with my roccat mouse and it have never crashed my game.

or it just migth be that gw2 and logitech software dont play nice together.

No, upgrading GPU wont do anything in gw2. your GPU is bottleneck for sure IF you want play Crysis 3 or similar, but again gw2 dont utilise highend gpus at all therefore its wasted money IF you want GW run smoother.

Btw, your cpu is good its just GW which needs absurd amount of power and does not run smooth on any system.

Im getting good FPS with r9 290/i7-4770k so its probably drivers or something.

E: what i consider as good, i never drop below 30fps every setting maxed out in LA.
Try newest beta drivers, i use those.

someone else said about this too, my bet is that DISC only contains launcher and all data have to be downloaded. welcome to digital era. i know ur pain if you got slow internet…took me 12hours to dowload game.

If you have an OEM install, you CANNOT get an activation code for that directly from MS. As they do not have the generation key to activate your OEM. Only your OEM does (HP/Dell/IBM/Gateway/Acer/MSI/…ect_).

The method you describe is ONLY for retail versions of Windows, NOT OEM.

Again, YOU CANNOT contact MS on ANY OEM based software (MSSQL, Exchange, Windows….ect) They not only won’t support it, they cannot generate keys for it.

basically they dont generate anything, u give the OEM key code to them adn they confirm its actually legit one(which u have in sticker), and they handle you “OEM free” code which can be used normally on any pc, but as i said i did this last time 2y ago, they may have changed their policies about these things, but its still free to try get new key before buing one.

Also keep in mind that if you have an OEM version of Windows it is tied to your current motherboard, which means new motherboard -> new Windows.

Actually by calling Microsoft support you will get New key, there will be instructions after u type OEM key and it says u cant register it with that key.

Actaully it was, 5 Trojan.MSII if you wonder why it was 5, it was because I downloaded the files 5 times.And 1 Trojan.Dropper. So, Yeah! Enjoying game.

Made a quick researh about that Trojan turns out it will steal personal data and its considered as rootkit. If i was you i would go find site wheres PPL who read OTL or HJT logs (ie. Virustorjunta.net IF ur finnish as i would think because of username)
U will find all info to take logs there, rootkits are nasty kitten to deal with and sometimes scanners just cant remove those Alone.

Migth have been one of the New bitcoin mine trojans, those + any other task can easily crash computer.

Try malwarebytes antimalware instead of hitman. Perhaps hardrive got some bad blocks, try Crystal disk info or similar to check its condition.

one note, i did drop my graphic card to stock clock rates so the scores are comparable, if someone want to measure his card versus “high” end card.

i did run unigine heaven with following options , DX11, Ultra quality, Extreme tesselation, 8x AA, FullHD resolution.(1920×1080)

results:
pci-e 2.0: FPS 49.9, Min FPS 8.2, Max FPS 102.5, Score 1257
pci-e 3.0: FPS 50.6, MIN FPS 25.4!!, Max fps 103.3, score 1274
conclusion: Minium framerate got dramatical(~310%) boost with 3.0 slot config. max and average fps stayed practically same within margin of error. also temperatures on GPU stayed same on both slot configs.

i will run 3dmark11 fire strike with “stock” settings

3dmark didnt receive any boost at all, scores did stay in margin of “error”.

so my thougths are 2.0 → 3.0 will improve performance on situations when test/game required extreme amount of raw power, and the increace is quite huge, since if it was game 8.2fps to 25fps would make game playable.

okey i found the slot config and got it locked to max 2.0@16x now, i choose to download 3dmark11 and unigine heaven for testing as i dont seem to find glxgears on windows.

I understand what you are talking about, I had the same problem sometime ago.

Heads up:
You are using HDMI on the TV right? I f so, your graphic card driver is downscaling the image.
Either nvidia or radeon, you can change the scale setting under the driver controler (nvidia panel or amd vision), increase it until it fills your screen.

I also recommend you to set your TV as the primary screen, there is no problem at all running two diff resolutions, since the one you wanna see stuff is the primary one.

If you need details how to do this, I’ll be glad to help and I also will need which graphic card you are using.

Proplem is aspect ratio which is different, other display will always show black borders since gfx cards are too stupid to use 2 difference aspect ratios.(or atleast was year ago when i tried)
And this got nothing to do with HDMI or any other display connectors.

Your proplem is your PC monitor with lower resolution and different aspect ratio, disconnect PC monitor when you open gw2 and you should see option for fullhd resolution.

I’m at 44mb downloaded, and it’s gone to 1%, so it’s around 3-5 Gigs. Luckily my internet’s somewhat decent at 450 kb/s, so it won’t take me too long

Neverfreakin’mind..The % doesn’t mean jack..At 40mb it reached 1%, then it reached 100mb and was supposedly 4%, and then I got to 110mb, and it went up to 5%..It’s now 130mb at 11%.

percentage is based on the files not MBs, patch is ~430mb, i was not suffering slow speed didnt take more than 5mins to download it

What i meant with full load is like furmark kind stress to GPU. 80c is not bad at all IF theres 100% load, gw2 hardly gets 60% load to his GPU, based on screen shots and its running 92c, there must be some dust or thermal paste is complete end of its life spawn like sirsquishy said.

I can send it when i get to Home, did u remove the “black tape” near left side of laptop , the hole from the left side where all hot air gets blowed away? I had like 2cm tigth layer of dust there.

Also Make sure to press it back there or air wont go out anymore. Perhaps little bit of glue to get it back.

Hmm, okay, warranty’s off already, but I googled more and found a post that said underclocking the GPU would help. I underclocked it for about 130 MHz and now when running around my GPU got only up to 80c. The regular FPS drop hasn’t occured again either. I’ll see how it works in WvW when in a zerg clash, but so far it seems the problem’s solved. Thank you, locx, anyway!

long time solution would still be to clean dust, try find disassemply guide for your laptop model or ask it from manufactors support. laptops needs to be completely disassembled to clean dust theres no shortcuts.

you guys forgot 1 big thing, why would gw2 not use that much cpu? all what is not used is just waste, if the game actually used 100% of the horse power new i5/i7 got to offer it would be running alot smoother in WvW and other demanding places.

yeah actually checking dust could be good idea, since usually programs only show GPU core temperature, and those weird graphigs could be caused by GPU memory overheating.

but then again if this does not happen in any other game i doupt its overheating. anyway cleaning dust even if theres no overheating issues is for good.

also try newest beta graphics drivers and some older ones to be sure its not driver related.

have you tried repairing game files or reintalling game? looks really odd, like ground was on 8bit colour or something, perhaps buggy texture file or something.

it depends if constant 40fps@explorable areas is what you want, no laptop can keep ~40fps in WvW or big towns like Lions arc since even most powerfull desktops cant do that

I would not talk about tearing or artifacts, since it looks like video card just didnt draw all terrain, my guess is that video card is just so low-end that it dont have time to draw all terrain. Laptop video cards are always low-end cards compared to desktop ones but those old hd3000 are like bottom of the video card lists.(perhaps slowest from low-end cards)

gw2 in the backround is not going to show you anything more than 1x link width on cpu-z, just tested it myself. so before breaking anything do this

1. open GPU-Z, start rendering test and leave it backround(you will find it behind small question mark on first tab)
2. start CPU-Z now, and check the link width.

Kinda sounds like your GPU is locked at PCI-E 1x (power saving mode) and wont unlock to the proper 16×. You can verify this with CPU-Z’s Mainboard tab.

Really should use GPU-Z for link width verification since it got rendering test and value actually update unlike in cpu-z

the Rendering test does not always ‘fix’ the sleep state on the PCI-E slot. And I have seen it miss read the Slots Link speed, btw.

I use CPU-Z cause it has never been wrong in any of my cases. And from there you can reinstall your drivers, disable PCI-E Sleep stats, set your power profile to High, or reseat the card to fix the 1x issues.

If the rendering test worked, so would running any Full screen DX game. Since the tests are the same. But that is not always the case with GPu-Z.

if its never wrong like u say, why dont you tell proper way to check it with cpu-z then?
cpu-z WILL ALWAYS show 1x link width when you start it while GPU was idle and windows not setted up to “high performance” mode from power options.

so in normal cases theres user who can turn computer on and install game, they have power option on balanced since its default, and whats the deal now(?), cpu-z will show 1x link width.

if you want to use cpu-z for checking that u need to do this →
1. open gpu-z, start rendering test(leave it running backround)
2. start cpu-z, now check link width.

also aslong as we dont have fixed time benchmark on gw2 you cant tell if something boosted performance period.(there will NEVER be exact same circumstances so u cant tell if it really helped)

oh and btw cpu-z shows im running on 1x link width, but my graphics card out performs gtx titan on 3dmark(firestrike) by 11%, tell me hows that possible if cpu-z is not lying to me? pretty sure you figured it allready its not possible if i was actually on 1x speed.

Usually you can find game “config” file from “program data” folder inside “documents and settings” , u must change folder options to see hidden files thougth.

Im not 100% sure IF gw2 store it there, but 99% of games does that.

Have you tried monitoring your CPU and GPU usage while playing to verify which one actually is guilty? On paper your GPU is overkill but lately I’ve seen quite a few people with overkill GPUs magically having it running 1x lane instead of 16x even tho it’s in the correct slot. If that’s fine and CPU usage is high then yes, a better processor would do you good. If neither seems to be capping out then we have to figure something else out.

Check the screen shot below, thats whats happening with High end GPUs, its because of power saving, not because they actually run on 1×. Cpu-z is just acting stupid.

your laptop of course is handling the game, home computer only handles internet traffic.

If your problem is the same as mine (can be checked with CPU-Z, doesn’t need much knowledge for this) I don’t think there’s an easy solution other than physically re-seating your GPU, but we cannot be sure until you check.

yes there is, open CPU-Z AFTER you have started “rendering test” from GPU-Z, WOOHOO u have 16x link width, cpu-z obviously shows 1x link width when theres nothing happening while you open it.(tip. its called power saving) proplem is CPU-Z only update link width info when its opened, after that it wont update this info again even if you pushed pci-e off from power saving.

Well, k – I overclocked my CPU now to 4.4 GHz in the BIOS. But well nothing really changed in GW2. Here’s a screenshot of GW2 at lowest graphics and windowed mode – + CPU-Z And that programm that came with my motherboard.

EDIT: After I got a Bluescreen I removed the overclock again, lol.

Did temperatures stay in safe range?(id say 80c is max u want have after stressing cpu)
IF temperatures were okay try adding little more voltage to cpu and try again.
Or perhaps better is to Start from 3.8-4.0ghz every chip should stay stable on that with normal voltage, if its stable then raise multiplier 1 step at time and always test after. When system becomes unstable you want raise voltage 1 step at time.

Overclocking really take some time, since Every chip is different, you just have to raise multiplier/voltage slowly, and see if its temperatures which goes too High so you cant OC more or maybe its bad chip which just dont have OC potential.

And btw which Cooler you have for your cpu? If stock Cooler please stop overclocking, haswells are too hot to BE oc’ed with stock one.

Downgrade your video drivers is solution to that obviously. Newest aint best always, its really common that some game gets unplayable after update.

Also tip for future dont try fix something that is working, so in your case dont update video drivers IF theres nothing wrong on old ones.

Also IF gw2 writes something to register ie. Game installation path. you need to manually add that info to Windows register.

Does this happen only on gw2 or also on other tasks which need more power? Maybe you forgot some MB/chipset drivers IF it happens on other CPU intensive tasks also.

The NH-D14 is the king of air coolers and is fine for a good OC. The D14 can beat low end and mid tear AIO water coolers, if u do want to go water cooling then a H100 or higher is what u would have to look at to get better results than the D14.

I run a D14 myself and it can handle all the way up to 1.4v on the 3930k, which will usually result in 4.6 or 4.7ghz clock speeds and temps that peak at around 80c.
By the time im ready to replace that cooler to go for higher OC’s ill being skipping AIO water coolers and just buying the second half(have GPU half already) of my custom water loop, as i don’t feel that a AIO water cooler will give me any significant OC potential over a D14.

actually it WAS the king for a good time, im not saying its bad cooler in anyway, but why not take better since its going to cost you quite much to upgrade cooler anyway.

and i disagree about minimium of h100 as it loses to both phanteks and noctua air coolers, when going to higher OC.
