No more than 1 class of the same type in tPvP

This isn’t about which class is better at what they do. And it’s not a l2p. People are taking advantage right now and abusing matches by stacking OP classes.

And everyone will be playing the class they want. No one is forcing you in to any class. The idea is to diversify the team compositions and still make them effective.

It is already a headache fighting 1 Guardian, let alone 2 at once or in a row. Everybody lately is starting to run 2 Guardians, with 1 or both of them being specced as bunker builds. With a pug, or even a premade with less Guardians, it’s nearly impossible to get past the first round. Get to Round 2 somehow, oh look, the other team has 2 Guardians. I wonder how they got past Round 1. It must have been hard.

The other day we fought 3 Warriors and 2 Thieves. They lost, only because they were all built as glass cannons. Their fault, sure, but I would think they would have a better chance if they had different classes on their team.

Anyway, it would certainly diversify the game play and the competitive aspect of it if I was fighting 5 different classes instead of 2 Guardians in a row.

Right now, to be competitive, you must run multiple Guardians or have a really, really good premade group, which would still include at least 1 Guardian.

Crossfire : Fire an arrow. Bleed your target if you hit them from behind or from the side.

Damage: 134
Bleeding: 3 s (128) dmg
Combo Finisher: Projectile (20%) Chance
Range: 1200

Notes: Attack speed is approximately 0.5 seconds per attack

Are you sure you’re thinking of the same Crossfire that everybody else is talking about? And you’re not biased even though you play a Shortbow Ranger? You don’t have to defend yourself to me with your elite attitude when you speak for the 99% of the competitive community while the rest of us are bad.

I don’t know if half of you only read the OP and then go on a crusade to defend yourself and your class, or you actually read the whole thread and still think you can justify these types of things happening.

Stop resorting to class warfare and devolving the thread in to troll comments and attacks.

You have people who have mained Ranger since the beginning telling everybody how stupid easy it is to do this kind of stuff. You have Thieves doing the same kind of things. Look around for a bit. There’s some of it in this thread too.

I was confused at first when I started reading this thread- crossfire OP? Rangers just use one skill? What have I been doing wrong! Usually my fingers are aching from playing the keyboard like a piano as I struggle to direct pets, lay traps, dodge, change weapons/pets etc. Now you tell me I can just press the “1” key and dominate! Please show me this build!

So like I said I was confused at first…and then I read the OP’s name. Now it all makes sense, its Merciless posting again about how his mesmer gets owned by everyone.

Oh the irony of a mesmer complaining about how easy other classes are to play, lol.

You have never encountered anything like the rest of the community has? You have never come across a Crossfire only Ranger or a Pistol Whip only Thief?

The issue is not how to beat or counter those builds/skills (and I have beaten them :p). The issue, which, if you read all of my postings in the thread you would know, is their viability and effectiveness vs those whose “fingers are aching from playing the keyboard like a piano” to achieve same/similar results.

I am sure a Ranger would love to help you with a Crossfire build. And then you can try it out for yourself.

You’re just in luck, not a single one of the abilities listed involves spamming one ability. Rather, the entire fight is a preparation to set up that single ability. No, rangers do not spend the entire fight desperately mashing that 1 key. No, Thieves don’t spam their 3.

And I worry for you if you honestly get caught in “100B spam”.

I do find it humorous that people honestly consider shortbow rangers as just following the FOTM or OP. I’ve been running this build since release, and that’s news to me.

How do you justify spamming of a skill by “setting” it up with 2-3 skills?

Doesn’t that make the spamming skill even more ridiculous when it’s just as effective vs somebody who uses nearly all their skills and then weapon swaps because their attacks/skills on first weapon are on CD?

Don’t listen to what they say. The metagame is revolving around who has a better and/or more Guardians on their team. When you have to call for help to focus down a bunker Guardian, it cripples your team and puts you at a huge disadvantage.

Me and my teams have lost numerous tPvP matches by less than 30 points only because it took forever to get the Guardian off of the point.

A mesmer complaining about warriors and rangers, now I’ve seen it all. Thief I can agree with but I do not think it’s overpowered, but 100b takes no skill? lol. Try playing 100b against a competent team, not in hotjoin, and tell me how many times you land it. It takes a lot of skill to play GS warrior, yes I said it, against good players of course. A skill that roots the warrior in place, frenzy causes them to take 50% more damage, and is countered by stability, invulnerability, or a dodge. if you die to it you got outplayed, hard.

Btw good GS warriors use more than just 100b but I don’t feel this thread deserves an in depth explanation of all that, more of a l2p issue, those players are pressing more than 1 button.

How about you focus on the topic instead of resorting to class warfare? You’re making the thread devolve. You have not contributed anything.

The thread is about the viability/effectiveness of spam skills vs those who weapon swap and use more than 2-3 skills.

Using 100 Blades was probably not such a great example of a spammable skill, but I think it was a mental thing for me, cause I swear, that’s almost all I see from Warriors.

I’ll mention Moa as being too long of a time for the transformation, and I’ll mention Teleport in using it to bring the repair kit for the treb, and thus is considered to be OP by the majority of the gaming population. I agree with the majority.

But again, this is a discussion about spammable skills effectiveness vs those who weapon swap and use more skills from their toolbar. That is what I am trying to discuss.

I am in no way trying to imply that those who do weapon swap and use more than 3 skills are more skillful than those who spam x skill, but why does it have to be just as effective? That is the point I’m trying to make.

You aren’t?

How can it be considered competitive if there’s no “skill” involved?

You said it right in your first post that these builds take no skill.

Are you also suggesting that mesmers do not have any overpowered and/or “no skill” abilities?

Of course there’s more skill involved in knowing when to weapon swap and knowing what skills to use vs spamming an x skill, but that doesn’t make the USER more skillful. Anybody can weapon swap and go through 1-5 and hope for the best.

My point with that statement is; Yes, it does not take skill to spam an x skill. Yes, it does take skill knowing when and how to spam that x skill. But spamming a skill does not encourage competition and/or does not make a match worth watching/enjoying as an E-sport.

Please mention to me a Mesmer skill that is spammable that is effective as Pistol Whip, 100 Blades, or Crossfire.

And this is an issue of spam skills effectiveness vs using weapon swap and all skills.

How do you compare an x skill that is spammable but at the same time just as effective as weapon swapping and going through a whole rotation of skills 1-5?

As a Mesmer, I use Greatsword and Sword/Pistol. I really wish the CD on weapon swapping was shorter than 10 seconds; that’s how often I weapon swap.

I am in no way trying to imply that those who do weapon swap and use more than 3 skills are more skillful than those who spam x skill, but why does it have to be just as effective? That is the point I’m trying to make.

I’m wondering, cause there’s some classes out there who don’t use weapon swaps and just spam 1-2 skills.

Weapon swapping should be encouraged, but why would they bother if all they use is 1-2 keys and it is still viable?

Yea, yea, let people play the way they want to play, but for sPvP, where do you draw the line between useful/broken/balanced?

If your class is built solely for 1 v 1 and you don’t really have AOE skills to kill off clones or Phantasms, you will have a harder time.

But just like Mesmers (or really, everybody) are forced to use/have stun breaks because of 100 Blades Warriors or Pistol Whip Thieves, so should you be forced to have some AOE dmg skills.

Let us sell some things from the sPvP side for money, like trophies or something.

Those of us that have been playing sPvP exclusively for the last month or so but want to be able to jump to PvE are so far behind in the economy behind everybody else who’s been grinding money for a month.

If anybody here has played any of the CoD games, you’ll know that an x amount of matches get “saved”, I believe on the game’s servers, and you can go in to the replay file and you can permanently save it to your Xbox hard drive.

I was wondering if there was ever a possibility of this happening in GW2, especially when it becomes more competitive with more game modes and as it grows as an E-sport.

For example, your last 5-10 matches are “saved”, and you can go in and review with your team what went wrong/right and adjust your tactics and so forth. And you’ll be able to save the replay as if it were a screen shot in your GW2 files.

What do you guys think?

Remove the environmental crap from tPvP, like the Svanir, the Lord, and the Trebuchet. People have already figured out how to gank the monsters in the first map, when to kill the Lord in the second map (All you need is 300-350 points and then the whole team rushes Lord), and the obvious abuse of the Trebuchet with Teleport.

Completely unnecessary, from a competitive aspect.

Merciless.5349

For some reason, when I go in to Stealth as a Mesmer (I don’t have Teleport on skill bar), the targeting does not break and other players are still able to see me

They can’t see you.
But,
1. any projectiles in flight will hit you
2. if they spam abilities at your location (or throw a projectile which intersects with your hitbox) they can still hit you
3. any channeled abilties that are in progress when you invis will continue to track you while invisible.
This last point is why it seems like they can see you. Ranger’s rapid fire will continue to send arrows at your real location even if you stealth when he fires the first arrow out of 8 (or so?). This also gives away your location if you’re trying to run away.

Thank you for explaining that about stealth. That explains A LOT of things.

And just because I play a Mesmer doesn’t mean I faceroll everything in my path and/or abuse the crap out of skills (like Teleport. It’s a principle thing). I mentioned those skills because of their insane burst and speed at which they are done.

Yes, MOA is OP as well. It needs to be turned down to last only in between 3-5 seconds, not 10. 10 seconds in PvP is really long.

And I’m confused by your responses so far. I stated my class and stated what I have problems with. All you all are doing is saying “Not me/stop complaining/troll thread/freekills”.

None of you have stated your class, nor a solution to dealing with the above.

By this weekend, I’ll post up a Youtube video showing these problems. I am sure it will take me less than 2-3 hours of gameplay time to find these things again.

My opinion on OP skills

in PvP

Posted by: Merciless.5349

Merciless.5349

100 Blades + Quickness = OP

Pistol Whip + Quickness = OP

Heartseeker spam = OP (only because of the gap closer, even when I dodge, they still catch up)

Guardian full heal AOE = OP

Mesmer teleport to repair trebuchet = OP

Please remove Quickness out of the game. Melee classes that already have fast attacks become nearly impossible to dodge or break out of stun combos.

Please stop saying “Learn 2 dodge/Learn 2 play”. If you do, you’ve obviously either not come across this kind of stuff yet, or you are abusing it. And people seem to forget you only get 2 dodges before your Endurance has to recharge.

For some reason, when I go in to Stealth as a Mesmer (I don’t have Teleport on skill bar), the targeting does not break and other players are still able to see me and get off their combos. This is when I either use the #4 skill with Torch or the elite skill Mass Invisibility. I was under the assumption that Stealthing cut off targeting. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Most of these things seem to be easy fixes. It is a big issue when a class or a team has to rely on 1-2 skills or another class in order to gain an advantage over the other team (as in the example of Teleport to Trebuchet).

On a side note, I am trying to learn to counter Rangers. They whoop my butt every time.

So he pulls that little stunt, and downs me literally in less than 2 seconds. I was like, “WTF?!?!?!” I’ve never seen that before.

Ok, I calm down. I believe next time I see him I’ll be ready for it. Noooooooooope. Same BS, and I saw him approaching, and it was still too fast. I was not able to activate my stun break and dodge out of the way or anything. I don’t know if that first skill dazes or something.

I’m sorry, but no 1 class, no matter if they’re glass cannon or not, should be able to down and kill another player in a shorter length of time than it takes to recover from a sneeze.

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was 2 players comboing their skills or whatever, but this is just a little much. If I wanted to get killed in less than 2 seconds, I’d keep playing MW3 or BF3 or any other quick trigger finger games.

Believe me, I have like 2-3 stun breaks, and my dodges were there, but it was still TOO FAST.

Is everybody else really OK with this?

PvP needs help/overhaul

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Merciless.5349

Hi, I love this game. I will keep playing this game.

I am not a hardcore PvP’er, but I do enjoy it more than PvE, and thus it is my main focus for the next x amount of months/years.

Rank in PvP is only important enough to be able to compete against similarly ranked/skilled players. As it currently stands, your Glory points accumulate and thus give you rank based on how long you’ve been playing. Yes, yes, I know, you still have to contribute to your team and get points and kills, but that doesn’t really differentiate you from the rest of the masses.

I can go in any 8v8 PvP match and be matched up against people that are just learning their class, or get owned by somebody who has mastered their class. I don’t mind getting owned, as it is a learning tool in and of itself, but getting owned consistently by the same 8 person group while my group drops and adds members like FB is unnecessary.

I am not ashamed to admit that my random 8 person team got owned and we lost 0-500. What bothers me is that we kept playing against that same group. :/

Tournament PvP is another thing entirely, as it would be hard to match up people with similar ranks as the team can be so varied.

Money – I stated this in the suggestions forum. I started a Mesmer, got 4 copper, and went to PvP. After nearly 2 weeks now, I still have only 4 copper. :/ PvP players need a source of income because if I were to ever decide to go back to PvE (and I will), I will still have only 4 Copper compared to the rest of the players who’ve been playing Pve that already have at least 1 Gold (or so I would hope).

I am not looking to get rich off of playing PvP. People say that I should sell dyes, but I love my dyes. I’d rather give them to my alts than sell them. I am just asking not to be left so far behind in terms of income.

Ideas for making money include selling trophies earned at the end of a match/tournament, swapping Glory points for money, earning x amount of money for winning a tournament (and other brilliant ideas that people come up with).

Skills – I only mention GW1 in the fact that it separated PvP and PvE skills. This is currently not the same with GW2. So how do they choose to balance skills? For what crowd do they choose to balance for? It’s a great balancing act (ha) in and of itself to choose who to balance for in the risk of alienating PvP or PvE players.

There are other ideas for PvP, but the game just came out, and it is still growing and expanding. I understand that. These are just some thoughts from a loyal customer.

A way to make money in the Heart of the Mists?

in Suggestions

Zzulu, I agree with sPvP having those issues as well.

For money making though, I was thinking, along the lines of earning trophies in a match, currently you just earn purple Trophies or whatever, and they give you some Glory points. What about if they gave out actual trophies that we could sell to a PvP vendor for money?

Like, for example, if I were to earn 100+ points in a match, I’d get a trophy that is worth 20 Copper. Or more. Or whatever they feel like. Or, the other night, I had a match with about 8 kills, and no deaths, and over 120 points. Surely that should be worth a trophy and some money? I would hope so.

Either way, yea, I feel like we’re being left behind. I’m glad that they encourage PvE and WvW, and I will still do them, but I’d really like to focus just on sPvP for a while and not feel like I’m losing out on the rest of the game because I’m kittened by not earning any money. :/

What I’m thinking of is all those people who do PvP now are being left behind for when they do PvE, because we have no way to make money, other than selling dyes. And most of those are being sold for cheap.

Either way, I wish there was a way to convert Glory points in to currency for the PvE side, or just let us earn money by doing sPvP or tPvP.

I really want to focus on PvP right now with my guild, but when I do want to go over to PvE, I don’t want it to feel like I just bought the game.

I will not claim I am a Guardian expert, but I play Mesmer, and I got a handle on how they play. At first, I tried Staff/GS combo, with putting down all those fields with Staff, and then DPS them with some GS and utility skills. And of course, some shatters.

But no matter what, they seem to stay above 50% HP. If I do get lucky, and I get him/her below 50%, the sky opens up and sends the light from the heavens above and makes them invulnerable and they heal to 75%+ HP.

Condition dmg seems slow in comparison to how fast a Guardian can revitalize himself.
