Well, they already sold the game to us players who do not want gear grind…Therefore, it will increase their profit if they can sell more copies to those who like gear grind.

If I read another one of these threads I think I might puke.

So this is the reason why huh?!?! kitten and here I was thinking they were trying to make the game interesting for the people that play. If you don’t have the time to play then well either find the time when u can play or don’t play.

But please don’t throw a tantrum when something new comes out and it’s not tailored to your specific needs. And then come onto the forums making up accusations about why this and why that when you don’t know anything. For every opinion you have I have 5 other opinions, so this thread really does not better us in any way and should be closed.

If you like the new patch, then just play the game instead of reading the posts.

Players who do not like the new patch need to discuss to find out what is happening, so that we can take actions accordingly. My opinion is that based on what seems to be the reason why they introduced gear grind, it is very likely that they will keep adding ascended items. Therefore, players who do not like the new patch have to make a decision regarding whether we should quit or try to cope with the changes.

After they closed the “big” thread, I think now I kind of understand why ANet introduced gear grind.

This is a MMO without a subscription fee. Therefore, to be profitable, they need keep selling more copies of the game. There are two types of players that may potentially buy GW2:
Type A: Those who had much MMO experience before but cannot commit enough time to gear grind as they now have a challenging job.
Type B: Those who have a lot of time for gaming.

(Players who have little MMO experience and have little time for gaming are unlikely to consider MMO anyway.)

A huge number of players of type A already bought GW2. Therefore, to try to sell more copies of GW2 fast, they plan to sell it to players of type B, and thus gear grind is required to keep those players playing.

The fact that WOW does gear grind better is not very important. The main reason is that WOW has a subscription fee.

Too bad that the initial GW2 manifesto lost to the priority of making profits. ANet does not want to admit this publicly, and that’s why they are silent.

I don’t see any point in pursuing this matter further…It’s possible to make a successful MMO with little grind, but unfortunately, turning it into a MMO with gear grind would increase the profit. Too bad that good things don’t last forever.

Blizzard tends to say something about concerns raised by a large number of players on their forums. I’m not sure why Anet has been silent; after all, they are a company started by previous blizzard employees.

Well, if Anet keeps ignoring player concerns, then it would be different: Blizzard did address that issue, while Anet hasn’t so far.

I posted the same idea days ago. The regular servers have patches that give new content without ascended gears, while the ascended servers have ascended gear coming with the new content.

I am disappointed by ANet

It seems to me that if this keeps going on, then WoW actully has more respect for players’ time. WoW is vertical progression, but the cross-realm LFG and LFR mechanism (cross-realm LFR was implemented this year) at least makes it not too time-consuming for casual players to see the content of the entire game.

I agree that it takes a lot of labor. It all depends on how much they gain by doing so. I saw people quit and request refunds and post screenshots… If by creating two types of servers, they could keep more players from requesting refunds and attract new players who are not keen on vertical progression, they would get the money to hire more developers, or to raise the salary of existing employees to ask them to work more.

You would have to split the trading posts, disallow mail trades between the servers, maybe have different guesting rules, and different WvWvW matchups, further causing mismatches in WvWvW because there would be less servers in each area, etc etc. This is not as easy as it looks, and especially because of WvW and the tp is virtually impossible.

They could make all the current servers “ascended” servers, and create new servers as “normal servers”. The normal servers have a new set of tp, mail system and WvWvW. Then offer free transfers.

This would be easier than converting existing servers to different types.

They probably could merge some low pop servers to implement this. Actually with new server architecture, I doubt that one “world” corresponds to exactly one physical machine.

Apparently Anet has plans to release more ascended gear, while many players, including myself, are not happy about this. I have a solution that might make everyone happy.

The idea is to create two types of servers: “ascended” servers and “normal” servers. On ascended servers, new content is released with ascended gear. On normal servers, new content is released with new exotic gear with the same stats as existing exotic gear and the same names/look as ascended gear. Offer free transfer between different types of servers for a few months.

This way Anet will keep both players who like horizontal progression and those who like vertical progression.

I don’t like this idea, either. The main reason why I’m playing gw2 instead of mop is that all max gears have identical stats.
