Same problem here.

  • I created the first tier back-piece before the patch
  • It was in the bank, but I placed everything in my inventory now
  • I completed all the steps for the new back piece in the last patch, except the last step. It’s at the last step that I noticed that I had the wrong seed for it

So after all this time of :

  • not caring about wvw
  • not fixing bugs (teleporting dolyaks because their animation can’t keep up with their positions and people not being able to move after building siege, people not being able to move untill they either relog or use “/dance”, losing stacks when (accidentally) going under water, etc…)
  • not fixing imbalances, not even fixing any class imbalances (like thief can stealth finish, but necro can’t finish while in DS)
  • no forum attention (the only post in wvw is about that we aren’t allowed to necro-post, while that is perfectly allowed for pvp forums).

You now want to advertise your unsupported game-mode using our videos? Why can you create 2weekly videos for Living World, but not 1 video every 2 years for wvw?

Living World Season 2 Early Feedback

in Living World

NathanH.1465

I was most annoyed with how they dropped the name ‘mordremoth’.In the personal story it states there are 5 dragons (that’s not including Mordremoth). So somewhere between the end of the personal story and the start of season 2 we learn the existence of the 6th dragon and everything about him. You would think it would be bigger news then:
“Person a: it’s mordremoth.
Person b: yeah, has to be. We now him now for 5 full seconds, so it has be him”.

And most of the story doesn’t even make any sense. In the personal story we meet the orders. They basically exist to fight the dragons. To improve efficiency all 3 of them started working together in a pact. So… why are we even in need of this summit? Way better (and more logic) would be to contact the pact and work from there… Or how about the part where rytlock doesn’t know the veins are in the ‘iron marches’ and our character not saying anything despite ‘investigating’ there not even 5 minutes ago…

Another problem is (and someone already said this somewhere) that they seem to go through plot points way to quickly. In 3 episodes we have seen:
- Saved the ‘master of Peace’
- figured out mordremoth exists
- discovered ley-lines
- omad’s machine (and tried it out)
- tell the pale tree about omad’s machine (just so she could be angry about it, because “it’s very dangerous” although she doesn’t protect humans with her dreams, so it’s not really “dangerous” for me…)
- Saved the waypoints (well… it’s in progress)
- Dealing a big blow to the jotun (to get eir to get someone else to the summit)
- Rytlock (failing) to get rid of the ghosts

How about slowing down on the plot points? All these points are big (and important) enough to give them all their own episode. I’m guessing that the story would be better told if they slowed down and all these points (and also remembered what happened in both the personal story and 5 minutes before in the living world :p )

btw, is it me or is it a bit ironic that the important stuff still isn’t in the game? Season one ‘forgot’ to tell/show how scarlet got insane (you had to read it on the forum), didn’t mention why 2 different enemies started working together (had to read in on the forums). In season 2, they ‘forgot’ to show us how we got to know mordremoth…

  • Waiting for events to occur in Dragon’s Reach Part 1 – This was the low point of Season 2 for me. The Iron Marches and Frostgorge events should have been instanced. Nothing is gained by turning these parts into open world zerg events, either you don’t have enough people to complete them, or there are so many people that your contribution counts for nothing (or they don’t start properly because events often get stuck).

That should be a positive, not a negative.

It made the world feel more involved and made room to play with other people.

Disagree, sort of. I did my story line and didn’t see any event when destroying that jotun statue thing. So I was basically like “So these 2 jotun and touching that statue was so hard for the norn people? Either dragons aren’t what they used to be or the norn aren’t worth the trouble…”

How do we know Mordremoth's name?

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

No you didn’t miss anything. Nobody knows how we know his name.
In the game, the inquest seem to know more about the existence of the this dragon, but we don’t know what they know and they don’t really talked to us.
Also: you may want to check this thread out: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Naming-Mordremoth/first

The names of the Dragons were written in the legends of the Dwarves and the names also could have passed down from the Jolton, both of whom were around during the last awakening of the dragons. Possibly we got the name that way story wise, but not yet confirmed..

From what I understand the dwarven/Jolton only name 4 dragons (zhaitan, Jormag, Primordus and Kralkatorrik). They also mentioned the existance the deep see dragon, but that’s pretty much it it.

NathanH.1465

This feels like I skipped at least 1 major update. I have no idea why my character should know the dragons name.

I too thought it was a bit of a oddity.

Then I considered about how everyone knew about the Elder Dragons, and wondered if there was references lore-wise to the Elder Dragon names from the Jotun ancestors to the dwarves…

Maybe it’s just common-knowledge?

No, it’s not really common-knowledge.
Because when the game begins, the only information about the dragons we have comes from ancient dwarven texts and jotun stalea (information from the dragons previous cycle of awakening over 11,000 years ago).
These dragon recods talk about several dragons, but not all are mentioned by name (for example the sea dragon is mentioned but not named). There is no mention of mordremoth either in these records.

(The Inquest had been conducting experiments structured around six Elder Dragons so they may have a bit of prior knowledge. But they didn’t exactly invite us over to talk about dragons).

So from my understanding, our characters didn’t know the existance of mordremoth in the previous patch and went to ‘oh hey, here is our old friend Mordremoth. How are you doing? Care for a drink?’

That trailer looks promising. But I’m not getting any hopes up, I mean it wouldn’t be the first time we got a great trailer followed by a somewhat disappointing release.

<snip>

Is it a joke?
- At first glance it is a little humorous and you start to chuckle at the absurdity of it.
- Then it really starts to sink in as you visualize it and you start to think…
- “Nah, They wouldn’t do that…would they?”
- Then it hits you that it really isn’t that funny.
- And as your chuckle begins to trail off, you realize that you can actually see this happening.
- Then you find yourself staring at your screen with a single thought pounding in your mind…
- “They might actually do this…”

No, the asure will probably discover a ‘fix’ so that the waypoints can’t be used by the vines anymore. Anet will probable require you to go each seperate waypoint and interact with it to fix it. After your finished fixing the last waypoint Trahearne shows up and take credit for fixing all the waypoints . :/

Seriously, Trahearnes life mission was to purify Orr, if he even dares to show up anywhere or doing anything else, then lets just say that The next story part will involve me as the villain XD

Same problem here. I also use avast and it is preventing the TP from loading.
The weird thing is other applications and games that use awesomium work perfectly for me. For me the problem seems to be that ‘Guild wars 2’ puts the awesomium files in a ’temp’’ folder (usually something like:
C:\Users\<uername>\AppData\Local\Temp\gw2cache-{some numbers here}\*

A (temporary) solution is to find that folder on your computer and add it to your ‘exclusions’ list in avast and see if it works for you too.
(The general exclusions list is under ‘settings — antivirus’ and scroll down a bit in that screen. I don’t have avast installed in english so naming might be different.)
(If GW2 ever creates a new foldername (with different numbers in the foldername) and the TP stops working again, you may need to repeat the process)

Ready Up: Balance Philosophy - 6/13 @ Noon PDT

in Profession Balance

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

General points:
- Stop handling WvW like PvE, while it’s clearly some sort of PvP (but with different ’rules’)
- Stop nerfing everything that is not bad. Just buff some of the weaker/underused stuff.
- Balance updates should be done more often and in small steps (I’m tired of investing in things that get nerfed and become unusable, and redoing all my traits on my 6 level 80 chars because a patch erased ALL my traits AGAIN)

Warrior:
- feels too powerfull overall with almost no weakness
- Healing signet is seriously overpowered when compared to any other healing skill.

Guardian: (overall the best balanced class)
- Spirit Weapons are useless in pvp and wvw. (I don’t even see anyone using it in pve either)

Mesmer:
- In wvw they are only used for veil, portals and the occasional ’Null field’. In wvw these skill tend to be required when meeting other zergs (or at least on my server :p). Veil hides you from the enemy, portal bomb to them and use null field on them. Zergs don’t seem to need any other stuff that a mesmer can do and usually even demand they have at least veil on them at all times.
- No AoE damage

Ranger:
- No strengths at all. Whatever they (try to) do, other classes can do it better/faster and more powerfull. (On my server rangers are not even allowed in some zergs, because they are ’useless’ compared to other classes).
- Pet(s) have a habit to walk into AoE and die almost instantly.

Elementalist:
- They do good damage. But have almost no defense at all and even have the lowest toughness and health in the game. Any defense tends to come from the ’arcane’ traitline.
Elementelist are currently too ’fragile’ and need better (and more) access to some defensive stuff.
- If they want to be able to give decent heals, they need to trait for it (a.k.a. forcing them to give up some of the (too) much needed defensive traits). I suggest to rework the waterbased attack and buff the healing they do and change the affecting traits a bit.

Thiefs:
- Can jump in and out of combat easily. Problem is that whenever they start losing a battle they tend to stealth and run away.
- They can use their finisher to kill someone when stealthed, but when the necro uses DS he can’t use his finisher? Either prevent stealthed thiefs from using finisher or also allow it for necro’s in DS.

Necro:
- Minions are pretty bad. From my experience they are either not attacking at all or attacking the wrong enemy (especially true for the Flesh golem)
- MinionMancer have no underwater elite (minion) skill.
- MM needs to spend ALL traits into their pets but with the bad AI, they still easily die under any AoE.
- Since MM are traited for pets they end up having no defense at all for themself. (so AoE quickly kills pets AND the necro. But if you play an asura you may have the luck to be hard to find between all those pets :p)
- Overall defense relies too much on attacking while we don’t even have access to stability
- Burst capability, where is it?
- Depends a bit too much on DS to survive.
- Has a very hard time escaping from battles
- The only AoE they have is conditionbased.
- When the necro gets low on hp and the healing is on cooldown they all tend to go to DS, making the ’Blood magic’ traitline mostly useless when it could starts being usefull. It usually also means the necro is about to die (Necro can’t escape battles so tend to resort to DS as a last resort).
- DS is completly gone when the enemy does some burst damage (making DS useless most of the time)

Overall: Necros have good hp (and DS) and pets can be nice. They also have good access to condition and condition removal.
The problem is that the very bad AI makes pets mostly unusable especially since they tend to die easily under AoE leaving the necro weak and vulnerable a bit too easy.
It wouldn’t be the first time that I’m fighting (with my MM build) and that my minions are not attacking (especially true for flesh golem) and if they start to attack they tend to run towards the AoE stuff, killing them fast and easy.
Necros can only defend themself by attacking, but nothing else (yet, they have no stability). With no real defense and useless pets their hp (and DS) is being drained way too easily. They also need to have a look taken at the blood line working together with DS.

No need to take away zones introduced

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

The zone already exists (at least a part of it) so why not let developers add more content to it (make the zone bigger, add a vista, Point of interest, etc…) and a hidden jumping puzzle. (Let the user climb up then add a hidden entrance into the mountain and add a jumping puzzle there (and let it count for world completion).

The content is being revisited now, so why not ‘rework’ the zone so it can stay?

If that isn’t a good reason for a zone to stay, then why is LA still there? With all respect, but there is nothing to do in LA either except for a jumping puzzle and a vista… And southsun is a similar story…

Stealing siege weapons

in WvW

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

The first bullet point isn’t the best of ideas unless you’re the person who placed it. I don’t fancy having a single person running around our fully upgraded keep and self-destructing all our superior siege.

Didn’t think of that, how about only the person who places the siege (and those in the same party) can destroy it again?

At 20 points you’re suggesting a 60% chance of failure. Lets assume small groups running those 20 points.

That means a 5 man group has only a 7.8% chance of failing to take a single siege at a door.

A 10 man group has less than a 1% chance of failure. At these rates there’s really very little incentive to grab more than 20 points.

Personally I’m not sure I like the idea. If this existed I wouldn’t want to see the success rate at higher than 1%, 2%, 3% for the three tiers.

Understandable, on one hand you don’t want to the rates to be too high but at the same time the chance has to be somewhat realistic. But those abilities are more of an example as I have never been good at balancing this kind of stuff out.

Stealing siege weapons

in WvW

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

No matter what your color is in WvWvW, all siege weapons look (and work) in the exact same way. Is this you flam ram? Or did the enemy place this? You can’t remember placing it so the enemy must have placed it here. It looks like it works exactly the same as your own siege, but somehow it’s not yours so using it would be wrong. Better destroy it fast…

So… how logic does that sound when your at war in one your borderlands? Your enemy may have left some pretty good siege behind, but you can’t use it…

So I was thinking that (by using some world abilities) we could ‘unlock’ the ability to use enemy siege. World abilities could (for example) look like this:

  • 10 points (total): When using your own teams siege weapons you now have a new skill called ‘destroy this’. If you use this skill the siege you are using will autodestroy after 30 seconds.
  • 20 points (total): when you see an enemy siege you have 40% chance of being able use it yourself. If you fail you can’t try to use any enemy siege again for 3 minutes and you get 5 stacks of bleeding. Once you used the siege (with success) the siege now belongs to your team instead.
  • 30 points (total): when you see an enemy siege you have 60% chance of being able use it yourself.
  • 50 points (total): when you see an enemy siege you have 80% chance of being able use it yourself.
  • 75 points (total): place a trap on you siege. If the enemy (tries to) use the siege it has 50% chance of giving 20 stacks of bleeding, and if the enemy decides to just play it safe and destroy this siege it will explode causing massive damage and 5 stacks of bleeding to everyone who was too close.
  • 150 points (total): (commander only ability): If you are tagged up as a commander AND have at least 50% health when you capture the building each siege weapon inside that building has 40% of automatically being ‘converted’ to your team.
  • 225 point (total): (commander only ability): If you are tagged up as a commander AND have at least 30% health when you capture the building each siege weapon has 55% of automatically being ‘converted’ to your team.

This would mean there would need to be more strategy and make everyone think twice about what siege weapons (and how many of them) you’ll be placing around the map/towers/etc… because there might be a chance that the enemy might break down your shiny new gate with the siege weapons you put there yourself (or at least if they are lucky enough). Or maybe they won’t risk it as the siege weapon could possible be trapped.)

What does everyone think about this?

Edit: I’ve never been good at balancing so the % of the abilities are more of an example then anything else.

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NathanH.1465

i recently made a list of content that has stayed.
It is quite a lot.
Most of it is of course polishing and QOL stuff, but hey. they changed the feeling of the game significantly in my opinion.
(Starting from the queens jubilee, till now)
(Excuse the weird formating, i just copy and pasted it from my document)

<snip>

That’s a nice list, but most of that isn’t really new ‘content’ but are either features or bugfixing or changes to existing stuff (so not really ‘new’).

For example: there is stuff like “Magic find changes/looking for group tool/wardrobe/etc…” those are more like actually features and therefore not really content.
On the other hand there is stuff like “Tequattle is now a Hardcore Boss/Complete revamp of sigils and runes/The destruction of Lions Arch/etc…”. These are changes to already existing content and therefore isn’t ‘new’ but changes to ‘old’ content.

Some of those features and changes were nice, but don’t give players a reason to start playing again. New content (like mostly in the form of an expansion) make players that either left the game (to do something else) a reason to come back and play again and/or make the game even more actractive for new(er) people.

Stuff like the wardrobe, changed sigil/runes, etc… might be nice, but it doesn’t give people who left the game a while ago something to do. (My friends, for example, won’t say something like ‘I have to go back to GW2 because they added a wardrobe to the game’.
New content gives people (new) stuff to actively do

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

I agree that it’s more then time for anet to tell us what their plans are for this game as far as PERMANENT content goes.
The game is almost 2 years old, so let’s summarize what PERMANENT stuff we got:

  • pvp: glory got replaced with the new reward tracks to more easily get dungeon skins. (meanwhile it seems that you aren’t able to get several of the pvp-only skins anymore)
  • wvw: wxp
  • pve: fractals, 1 new dungeon path (in TA), a few jumping puzzles, LA got removed (and the functionality of having crafting/bank/black lion close together got put behind a paywall that was expansive and available for short time only), every gold income (besides gemstore) got nerfed, gemstore featuring (temporarily available) stuff that is almost identical to already existing armor in the game, new trait system (that needs some serious changes as already mentioned in another trait), 2 whole new healing (with 1 of them being only being somewhat useful in 1 specific living story instance)

So after 2 years (and with anet telling us at the start that they had several teams working on several different parts of the game) we still have no idea even IF anet is even thinking of bringing us new classes/zones/more personal story/etc…
wvw still hasn’t been really touched at all (and it can use some serious fixing).
And some basic functions that should have been in game since launch are still missing (for example: trading post is still missing a decent filter/search function. You still can’t easily specify how many items you want to send to friend (it’s either the full stack or nothing at all and you really say something like, here is 250 food items, use 1 and send the rest back to me please)

At this point I don’t want to level an alt, because I already saw the whole world… several times. I don’t like pvp all that much and wvw is getting boring (it’s always the exact same thing in the exact same landscape: find the zerg from your server and attack the first gate you see, but don’t bother defending stuff (not rewarding), and enemy zergs will kill you if you are not in a zerg yourself).

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect all those changes by tomorrow, but I DO expect an newspost about what PERMANENT content anet has in store for us. They had almost 2 years to create it, so they could at least create an announcement with several hints and they all better be worth it!
Living story can be fun at times (for example: sanctum sprint was a lot of fun, why didn’t we get a full zone like that?) but it doesn’t even come close to replace a real expansion, when none of it’s content can be played again whenever the user wants to.

And yes they might have been working on the china release, but that doesn’t mean that 1 person couldn’t have found 1 hour time to post a newsarticle about the future of GW2.

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Agree with the OP on every single bit. Anyway here is my top 3:

1) Give us some villain background (in game)
Any and all information that is important for the player to understand why something happened or why the villain did something should be ingame. Most of the players probably never read the blog-post(s) about scarlet. Let’s summarize the information we have about scarlet through the game: she used random enemies to attack random stuff to locate the ley lines underneath LA to wake up a dragon.
Why did she do that? Why did the enemies help her? Why didn’t the enemies ever revolt against her plans (we kept killing them and it’s not that they got anything in return)? Who was inside scarlet’s head? (No, can’t be the dragon because it would be very silly if the dragon needed to create “minion” to wake himself up). Why did she decide to wake up a dragon? Where did Scarlet get all the money (and materials) to build the toxic tower, her gigantic robots, the flying ufo thing?

2) The world is boring
So some crazy cat lady shows up and awakens a dragon. That story was VERY predictable and didn’t contain any surprises and often felt pieces were missing. Be honest: how many people keep watching their favorite show if they can predict exactly what will happen for the next few months? Tyria is a very big world you’re seriously telling me that there isn’t anything at all that could have been used to make a sudden unexpected turn of events?
For example: did the Jotun just figure that with scarlet out there, they should stop all of their attacks and watch tv while we focus on scarlet?

3) Reward us, but don’t put existing stuff behind a paywall
The ‘feature’ of having crafting stations, bank, trading posts close to each-other gets removed and placed behind a paywall. And to make it even worse the ‘lifetime’ access was expensive and only available for limited time.
And at the same time the content we have is at least a year old. I think that the last update that actually added content that is available permanently was … the fractals one.
Meanwhile we get a lot of updates with content that is (mostly) available for a limited time. The stuff that doesn’t get removed is more decorative then anything else (For example: see kessex hills.)

A full season later we are still were we started… no new zones, no new classes, no races, no new weapons, classes still can’t use all weapons, still no decent grouping system and wvw still needs major attention.
The ‘Zephyr Sanctum’ update was my favorite update and I was hoping for it to return as a full permanent zone that required you to use the wind/sun/etc… powers to explore, do hearts, jumping puzzles, vistas,.. but I’m currently having the feeling that even IF we see it again it will be exactly the same as last year
(Yes, there is the ‘Feature Pack’ coming, but that doesn’t really count as it is only made for new players and makes stuff easier (traits, dye, wardrobe,…), but doesn’t give new content)

Looking for info on lag in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

What kind of issue are you specifically having that could be related to lag?
Skill not registering at all (clicking on a skill but nothing happening at all, not even after 2 min.), major skill lag (skills are registering but take a very long time to execute. For example: today I was on my mesmer and when I tried to use the ‘blink’ skill to teleport me forward as much as it could, it only ‘executed’ the skill only AFTER I ran past that point. Meaning it actually teleported me a bit backward), and lots of rubber-banding.
(on a sidenote: I’ve set gw2 graphic settings to low and have around 25fps. Although other modern games run on mediumhigh settings without problems)

What server are you on?
Ruins of Surmia (EU-server)

Has there ever been a time when you or a friend are experiencing lag, while others in your party are not?
Every single person is complaining about these lags in the chat (The problem seems to be the biggest on EB, but also present on other places).

Has there ever been a time where one party in a map is experiencing lag, while other parties in that same map are not?
See the answer to the previous question.

Do you experience the lag at very specific times?
If a zerg is going in the direction of another zerg the lag seems to increase a lot (for everyone in the chat and on teamspeak). This makes sneaking up to other zerg(s) impossible.

Feedback: Event loot nerfed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

If anet want’s to “spread the people around the world”, then they are doing it the wrong way. Events aren’t worth all the trouble because:
- they aren’t rewarding at all (completing event’s give around 2 or 3 silver)
- the loot from (random) enemies is mostly worthless (even with 103% magic I end up with the crap that you can only sell to an npc for a few copper.)
- most of the time chests contain junk as well (you get 1 or 2 blue armor and maybe a green weapon)
- not doing event’s doesn’t have ANY effect at all. For example: there is an event where the centaurs are building a bridge. But why should we go stop them? It’s not like they are actually going to actively use it to conquer the rest of the zone. (It’s not like you hear anyone saying "quick we should stop the centaurs from building that bridge, because otherwise they will do absolutely nothing with it).

Some people don’t like doing dungeons all the time. From my experience, people are either selling spots in their party, or demanding a certain class and/or build, skipping any and all mobs and running directly to the boss, attacking the boss from a certain location where he usually can’t reach you, demand you to be lvl80 (even for ac, although ac is actually a lvl30 dungeon), or suddenly telling you they now have to go (leaving the party and if they started the dungeon everyone gets kicked out of the dungeon).
I (personally) don’t consider that to be even close to fun. So therefore I tend to not do dungeons and just run in the wvw zerg :p

The (possible) solutions (in my opinion)?
- Rework the RNG (one of the biggest problems in this game), so that every once in a while you actually get some good loot.-
- Let event’s have consequences. For example if the centaurs build the bridge then the heart where one of the seraph asks you to find ‘badges of their fallen friends’ could be hidden (because their friends are still fighting the centaurs). If the bridge gets destroyed the heart shows up again because some of ‘their friends’ died fighting to destroy the bridge the centaurs build. Or have a part of a zone visitable if a certain event succeeds/fails.
- Yes, something should be done about the queensdale train (people new to the game shouldn’t be pushed towards a train, but towards exploration, etc…). So low level zones could have a (big) nerf to rewards, but higher level zones could have their rewards increased a bit to compensate for the nerf (and to make it more appealing to spread out towards the higher level zones). (Just to be clear: I’m talking about the event-completion reward here, not the loot.)

Although it’s a bit waiting to see how it will end up, I think this nerf might have 2 effects:
- more people pushed into dungeons/fractals (because it’s the only way to earn some gold)
- bigger zergs to kill the champs even faster and to move to the next champ even faster…

uh-huh. I agree… The story was pretty disappointing. So it took an entire year of “the ending is going rock tyria ‘till it’s core”. Yet the story is pretty much “Scarlet came, woke a dragon up and destroyed 1 or 2 buildings in LA and maybe a wall or 2.”

Where is the surprising twist in the story? GW2 has an amazing lore. For example She could have helped Dhuum escape from his prison. He could have been imprisoned by the ley-lines (those ley-lines make the magic flow around tyria. I’m sure anet could make something up that makes it believable for Dhuum to be imprisoned by magic). Season 1 could have ended with the same big blow and Dhuum rising up from the explosion (this would be a real twist, especially since everyone thought it would be the jungle dragon for months now). In season 2 Dhuum could make such a big havoc that the underworld would open up (as playable zones).

But what do we get? “You have a sister? insert 2 minute silence Ow, my leg hurts. uh-huh” and a movie that didn’t load for me. (So I looked it up on youtube. For those who missed the video too. Someone uploaded it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8mQlYXyZqE )

I do like the story instances where you get some background on all the npc’s. but not as the ‘ending’ of a season. Don’t tell me they ‘forgot’ to add a cliffhanger in there :/
Nobody is worried about a dragon or about LA. So why should I care about it at all?

Awards in the final patch... legendaries?

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Legendaries should stay a legendary. They are supposed to be ‘hard to get’ because:

  • they are a long term objective, not something you can buy at the very first convenience store.
  • a legendary wouldn’t be a legendary if everyone would have them. ‘Legendary’ can be described as ‘so celebrated as to having taken on the nature of a legend’. The word ‘Legend’ means something like ‘unverified story handed down from earlier times’ . So if everyone would be having one for free then that ‘unverified story’ wouldn’t be unverified and that would make the weapon an everyday weapon, not a legendary.
  • You don’t need to buy them because you can also craft them (it takes a lot of work, but it’s possible)
  • What after season 2? Give them 2 legendaries? And after season 7? Maybe some custom armor (or finisher). But not a legendary.

Maybe a ‘scarlet’ like outfit for the players would be better, so after each season they could hand out a new outfit/skin. So that players can look like their favorite villain. :p

NathanH.1465

  • Story got bit better over time but at the same time the ‘main’ story was too predictable. At certain times there wasn’t any story at all. Season 1 (summary):
Scarlet goes insane and wakes up a dragon. There were no really interesting (or surprising) turn of events. A good story needs an unexpected turn of events: for example what’s more interesting:

1) Scarlet looks in a box, goes insane, gathers an army, builds a big robot and wakes up a dragon.

OR

2) Scarlet looks in a box, goes insane, gathers an army, builds a robot to free dhuum from his prison. Dhumm ‘revives’ abadon and in return abadon kill/sacrifices living creates every so often because dhuum gets stronger with every death. While dhuum is reviving abadon, scarlet is tapping into the lay lines to feed magic to abadon (so he becomes powerfull again). But all the turbulence suddenly wakes up an elder dragon who attacks LA from out of nowhere.

(The 2nd is just an example. So don’t start about how unlikely it is to have that happening :p )

  • The sanctum sprint update was a pretty good (new zone were you had to use the power of the wind/sun/etc… as a (new) way of exploring that zone. It would have been fun to have an entire zone like like that (permanantly) that filled with jumping puzzles, vista, hearts, etc…
  • Some zerg content is nice, but it’s way too much zerg. Have an update every so often that only requires small groups instead of entire zones to complete. This way the smaller servers also have a chance of being able to complete it.
  • Several stuff is only valuable for the big servers. Tequatel, 3-headed wurm, etc… aren’t really possible on smaller servers
  • While the idea behind the EOTM is good, it gives serious problems for smaller servers, because most people just go to EOTM and don’t care at all about defending our borderlands
  • Last patch was bad and boring. Previous LA patch was great (a whole zone destroyed? Great ). But the last patch is bad: story is either incomplete or incorrect: defeating a hologram somehow mortally wounds scarlet? Scarlet didn’t even say why she did it? (The chance of the dragon telling us why scarlet chose to do all that is around 0%). Previous patch was all about "let’s rescue citizens until the mimosa get’s too strong. And in this update it’s like there never was any ‘mimosa’? You don’t even get to fight scarlet? But at the same time she is mortally wounded when you reach her?
  • The LS didn’t really accomplish anything big. No new classes, races, zones, no guild vs. guild, no guild halls, no personal housing, no dungeon for more then 5 people, no mini-games/events/missions for you to do with your friends (that aren’t necessarily in your guild)…)? I’m currently hoping that at least LA will be rebuild into something that looks completely different… If we aren’t going to get expansions, at least give us new classes/races/zones through the LS.
  • Some of the story wasn’t even in game, but on a separate blog! I’m not reading a blog to understand a story thats happening in a game! There have been good improvements lately to the story. Like that story instance 1 or 2 updates ago where we got some background information on the characters), but there is no time to rest now
  • Sometimes achievements stay for 2 weeks and sometimes for a month. It would have been nice to see how long we’ll be able to get the achievements.
  • Missed an update? Just started playing? I’m sorry but there is no way (in the game) for you know what happened and who scarlet is. An (easy) solution is to do something like you guys did for the personal story (a.k.a. a menu option that has a summary of important events).
  • bugs, bugs, bugs everywhere…

If all the future seasons are going to be like season 1 was: 3/10
If Season 1 was just some ‘Introduction’ to the LS then 6/10

Overall, i really had fun with some of the updates. But sometimes it feels like there is too much achievement hunting and too little story)

Suggestion: make all pve maps like EOTM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Keep in mind that doing that also means that it will be almost impossible to play with your friends. If you go to the EOTM and your friend comes online 20min. later he will not be able to join you as the instance of the map you are on is full… so if you have a guild mission/raid you’ll run into problems as everyone has to join the map at the exact same time.
So for those reasons I kind of hope they will not do that.

Recultivation of orr

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Well, you all expect that the current personal story system will remain. I don’t really think that this should remain in the way it is now. Its old, its boring and the game can’t move on. Current system should be, in my opinion, reworked. Living story should be more implement into the personal story…

The problem is that you can’t change the personal story.

  • new players don’t know the story, so it’s not old and boring for them
  • changing the personal story, might mess up the story for the people still going through it. (imaging that first you just finished a part where you had to fight a bunch of risen, but the next day, instead of risen the story suddenly focus on centaurs to be the big bad enemy)
  • If you change the personal story, then you run the risk that a lot of zones might need to be reworked. (for example: the higher level zones focus on the ‘risen’ as the enemy on the map. If for example the story wouldn’t focus on them, but another enemy all the missions, quests, and enemies in the open world might need to be ‘updated’ to reflect that new enemy) also (depending on the changes) even the dungeons might need to be looked at again.
  • changing the personal also means that all the cutscenes and voice acting would need to be redone .

The living world can change stuff in the open world, but only when it doesn’t contradict the personal storyline at any point and changing the personal storyline probably means a LOT of work for anet.

I think it would be much easier (and maybe even faster) for anet to add more personal storyline add the end of the current personal storyline or even to have the Living story open up new zones/continent (at least that’s how we got that ‘Southsun Cove’), add a new playable race and have the Living story focus on that continent and new race (instead of having a Personal story for that continent, but I’m not certain how much work that would be for anet and they might have their own plan for the Living story)

Recultivation of orr

in Living World

NathanH.1465

Basically the problem is (like others said) that you can’t change orr bacause not everyone has finished his/her personal story. People who just bought the game will one day go to orr and expect to see risen in there. They just done several story instances about how orr is source of all evil, so when they go there they’ll need to see risen.
The problem is that anet can’t change any zone in a way that contradicts the personal storyline.

However, there might be an easy solution for this problem with orr. If you look at the map, a part of orr is still closed off. So after completely finishing the (current) personal storyline, Anet could add a few missions that open up the part off Orr that’s currently closed off.
The (currently) closed off part, could then focus around rebuilding Orr. (and ofcourse with the bandits who are trying to make a profit themself )

However, that means that anet would need to find the time to add 1 (or 2) new zones and 2 or 3 extra storymissions to open them up.

1) Condition builds: what’s the use of any condition build when the limit of stacks is 25?

2) Living Story: is there even a story going on at all? If there is a general story, then what is it? I love the idea of LS and I really like some of the updates we had. But there needs to be a general story connecting all the updates, and that also needs to be clear to the players. The story needs to have consequences, for example: Why did we vote between Evon and the other one (can’t remember her name)? Both of them are completely out of the picture and dosn’t seem to do anything… Make the story affect the feature updates and make the story clear to the player. Currently I have the feeling that LS is having even on hold (I mean what do SAB, world boss changes, New TA dungeon path, etc… have to do with the story? I mean Scarlet’s minions are still attacking and nobody even seems to care. I don’t mind updates like SAB, TA update, etc… but let the LS forward too). Make it open up more of the map (permanently), add more personal story, etc…)
A ‘small’ change that already might help is this: We can reread our personal story, why not the LS? Just ‘write’ the general story (of LS) out like what happens when the ‘Personal story’

3) Any chance for guild halls and/or personal housing? Once that is in the game, not only can you set decorations for halls/houses as achievement prizes. But you can also sell a bunch of them for gems. Every once in a while have a ‘how beautiful is your house / guild hall’ like contest (or have an in-game npc judges that give ratings on everyones house. Ratings would be based on several factors ofcourse) and the most beautiful houses would appear in a ranking. Why isn’t this ingame yet? There is so much you can do with this, WHILE earning money…

  • The pact don’t “merge”, just work together closely. This way, the pact you joined can still have ‘pact specific missions’ for most of the game.
  • Pact missions are about the same subject (for example: order of whispers infiltrates a castle and report their findings to the vigil. The vigil go kill the enemy inside the castle and give a signal to the ‘Durmand Priory’ when they are finished. When the vigil is done “playing around” The ‘durmand priory’ goes to the castle for some research…)
  • Tybalt doesn’t die (what? He is the ONLY character in the game I actually like :p )
  • The sword Trahearne ends up using is completely for you (if your character can’t use a sword or if you prefer another weapon, the weapon can be ‘altered’ ONCE into another weapon)
  • Trahearne dies in a very painfull (and slow) way on his first very first mission.
  • Since Trahearne is (finally) dead, you actually get all the honor for the work YOU already do.
  • Tybalt ends up being your personal advisor (because he is the ONLY character in the game I actually ended up liking :p )
  • You actually fight zhaitan (instead of just showing him some firework…)

NathanH.1465

I don’t like the Southsun updates. Problems I’m having with it:

  • The story goes from: “we are relocating people to an island where the animals are more aggressive”… to… "we found out who is behind it and have him trapped in a corner. "
So why am I there again? Just for demining the room?
  • My conditions don’t work, but the ‘poison mine’ does it’s job nicely? Where is that logic? (my main is a condition necro)
  • As a Necro I don’t have “easy” access to stability and that means I get knocked around by Canach pretty easily and usually get kicked into a mine and before I can get up, he’s already attacking again. (Sometimes even with a 2nd knockback. into another mine :/ ).
  • It’s already bad enough that the last patch didn’t fix any of (major) issues (just fixes for tooltips that nobody reads), now I’m starting to get the feeling that (If I don’t want to miss out in the feature) I better have a lvl80 DPS warrior/guardian ready to play with
  • On 1 hand I like trying to get some of the achievements, but on the other hand… what with the people who will join in this game in a few months? Do we have to tell that they are “too late for some of the achievements?”

I wouldn’t mind if it ended with a dungeon, however, it would be nice to get some ‘permanent’ new content in this game.
Some of the stuff they have been putting out, is really fun (like the flame & frost dungeon). In my opinion it was one of the most fun dungeons in game, yet it got removed :/ So I’m currently hoping for another (permanent) dungeon.
(The last ‘new permanent’ content in PvE was what? Fractals? Anyway it would just be nice to see the developers were working on something that doesn’t get removed after a few weeks.)

What do YOU want in any future stories?

in Personal Story

NathanH.1465

Yes let Trehearn die… Perhaps though in a little more humane way, rather than mutiny, perhaps he ACTUALLY joins you and Destiny’s edge to kill Zhaitan in an additional mission (See my suggestion above).

I don’t care how Trehearne dies, as long as I end up being the one to kill him. Maybe make it into a story choice: secretly kill trehearne and then fight zhaitan, or let zhaitan do it

~ I think the idea of the dragon we “killed” being Zhaitan’s son would be a little bit silly IMO. Again see my post above, it’s a little more believable and it makes sense that you can then kill an elder dragon face-to-face.
~ Zhaitan and Jormag joining forces… oh please, they are dragons for crying out loud, I don’t think negotiations and alliances are a part of their mental thinking… Being the strongest force in Tyria I think they would be a little bit more arrogant than forging alliances!

Maybe a little silly, but it would be an unexpected plot twists (I hate it, when I can predict what will happen.). Also I don’t see why 2 dragons couldn’t work together. Wild animals do it all the time (emperor penguins share heat on a cold day, vampire bats share their food, Mule deer females look out for each other’s fawns when the mother is absent grazing, etc…). There is no negotiating, just working together for the greater good (in this case it would be killing all humans as it are the humans/char/… working to kill the dragons)

Also (to get back on topic): I just hope they do more with the orders. Currently you choose an order, just to unite them :/

(edited by NathanH.1465)

What do YOU want in any future stories?

in Personal Story

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Short version: “zhaitan” and “orders”

Long version:
1) After the defeat of zhaitan, Trahearne calls that day ‘Trahearne killed zhaitan’ day and every year there will be a massive feast on that day. But then zhaitan stills seems to be alive. The dragon you killed wasn’t zhaitan … it was his 3 month old son. The people are angry … with trahearne (he did claim that HE did kill zhaiten).
The people want him dead so you (happily) kill that annoying, good-for-nothing guy. And then you go after zhaitan and discover that he is now working together with Jormag…

2) Order specific missions that somehow work together in the bigger picture.
For example: there is some evil creepy castle where (living) humans serve Jormag.

  • The ‘order of whispers’ has a few missions about sneaking into the place, learn a few secrets (like where some of the hidden passageways are located, who owns the castle, how many soldiers does it have and why are they serving Jormag?). The ‘order of whispers’ hands that data to the vigil.
  • The vigil has a few missions where they receives the data from the ‘order of whispers’ and attack (and conquer) the place. (Shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since they are living human, norn, char, etc.. and NOT those undead)
  • After the vigil conquered the castle. The ‘diamond priory’ has a few missions to search the place for some “new” ancient data (and kill some “left-over” enemies at the same time). Their findings get’s handed to the order of whispers to do something else with…

3) 2 or 3 order specific skills. You can only have (and use) the skills from your own order.

in Living World

NathanH.1465

I understand that problem. I know some other people that stopped playing this game, because they did everything they could do. Whenever I see them, and they ask how GW2 is doing, the only thing I can say is: “there was an event, that didn’t leave any new content”, or an “empty island got added in the middle of the sea” or “the living story temporarily added 2 new instances that I finished in around 20 minutes”.

Since they can’t “replay” an event that isn’t active, why would they sit through updating a game (that they didn’t bother updating for several months), just to play the current “living story” for like 20-30 minutes?
I like that idea of the “library” (so they can actually play these event for themselfs).

Although I do wonder: How would you be able to do finish that karkas event without a lot of people? That ancient karka is way too though to beat, unless you have at least 50 or 60 people with you. (that’s even ignoring that at a certain point the reinforcements killed 90% of the players on the overflow server I was on :p )
So they might have to turn those “library-events” cross player/server instances or something. I mean it’s a shame that events that where actually fun to do, aren’t available anymore.

Living World => different on each server?

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

A part of me likes the idea and another part doesn’t.
It sounds nice, but…

  • … you might end up having people switch to servers that has a better (or more interesting) story playing out. And those who don’t switch might use ‘guesting’ to get tp those servers. This would leaving some worlds pretty unpopulated (as far as the ‘living world’ part goes), causing ‘boring’ uninteresting story’s on some server, and that might be causing massive overpopulated servers on one hand and empty servers on the other hand.
  • … They aren’t exactly having much success at balancing all the classes (for example: traits from the necro are still a mostly non working illogical ordered mess). I do not want to know what other bugs they’ll be introduce when each server might be getting different story lines.
  • … The current story is boring. I mean it took 3 months of people losing stuff because they get killed, before 1 char and 1 norn suddenly realize that maybe something should done about it… :p How much “interesting” would the stories get if they had to improvise several story each month?

Overall I much rather have them bugfixing and giving us some more actual content (read more bugfixing, better balancing then the previous patch, and especially a better “living” story :/ )

I think I died 5 or 6 times (everyone was death and my co-agent didn’t do anything at all either. Seeing how I died over and over again must have been real fun for him).

That mission felt like it should have been for the vigil. When I joined the ‘order of whispers’ I really thought I would get missions like ’sneak into some random castle, killing a few guards/abominations on your way in, discover some secret fact (about zhaitan), and report back to the order of whispers. :/

If guildwars 2 had monthly fee

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

The moment the game will have a monthly fee, I will stop playing it. The game is fun at the start, but several aspects of the game needs work (bugfixing, lot’s of balancing, etc…).

Another reason, why I wouldn’t be paying is ‘the living story’. It’s a nice idea, but … well… the general story (untill now can be summarized as “Many people are being kill and driven from their home. One of the refugees lost his glasses. Now go find those glasses”.
Why should I care about the stuff they lost? :/

Paying every month would also mean that I would need to pay to be able to join in on any of the events, and (based on all the updates we’ve already received), it’s not worth it (my opinion).
I found the Halloween event to be fun. But the ‘Lost shores-event (november 2012) basically just added an island that I don’t care about (because there isn’t anything to do there).
Wintersday (december) wasn’t any fun (for me) either (the same event repeated in a different location for 14 days?).
And (in my opinion) the ‘flame and frost’ is (like I already said) very boring, and also has a very bad storyline (and flame and frost is going on for 3 months now :/ )

If they ever (would) make an expansions then I highly doubt I would buy that either, because most of the updates up until now, aren’t actuall all that good… (I want guild housing, personal housing, mounts (just for the sake of being able to brag with them :p) and actual ‘guild wars’. (yes, I know where the name comes from, but I still think it’s weird for to have the name ‘guild wars’ but not include an actual ‘guild war’ :p )

But that’s just my opinion.

Disappointed with Zaitain?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NathanH.1465

The ending is indeed seriously disappointing with no (usable) rewards at all…

It felt like ages just to get to zhaitan, first you fight a few hundred enemies and champions and when you finally see zhatian you press a button and it’s all over? I mean did zhaitan have a life insurance on himself and he maybe just wanted to fake his own death just to (somehow) collect the money?

All the ‘final’ rewards from the dungeon were useless. They were either not for my necro or weaker then the stuff I already had… The final mission (the one after the dungeon) didn’t any good stuff either…. My armor (and weapons) were already just as strong (and better looking) exotics then one of the items I could ‘choose’ from…

Personally, I would have wanted a legendary for my necro (or at least some big help in getting one). I mean I did finish the story and you do that only once with a character

But the worst part of everything is that Trahearne didn’t die
