The only problem I had is that the racing part didn’t work.
When I finished the story instance, I noticed a race was about to start. So I make sure to get my char registered for the race, but when the timer hit zero the race didn’t begin (at least not on my screen). I also didn’t notice any other event starting (at least not near the starting area).

BTW New Poll

in WvW

NathanH.1465

Personally, I think the poll fails because the answer isn’t a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
Do I want the desert to come back? depends…

  • If it’s unchanged —> rotate it with EoTM
  • If it’s changed, then they need to make it less vertical, remove the pve elements (it’s a pvp map after all, pve people already have enough maps), add strategy (like give everything some strategic use as some certain towers currently don’t have ANY strategic use)

The reason the alpine border hasn’t brought back more people is because:

  • most people who cared about realm vs realm stuff moved onto a different game, where the devs don’t ignore the game mode for 3 entire years.
  • they came back, saw nothing actually changed (as in, none of the balance problems got fixed) and instead they are practically forced to grind out pve maps as most wvw unlocked stuff was taken away from them and moved behind (very) expensive guild hall upgrades. Then add how, specializations are more powerful then their base class and you get that players coming back who feel being forced to upgrade to HoT just to grind pve for a few months just to get their guild unlocks to the same level as before HoT. And that’s something they don’t want to do (I know several people/guilds that refuse to come back just ‘cause of that reason alone) and it’s too little too late for these people no matter what anet does.

  • anet asking us, if they should delete something? the fact they are even asking shows that they have no idea what direction to take their game in…
  • besides people who never did wvw shouldn’t be able to vote anyway. They may just see ‘remove map’ and go like ‘noooooo’ with no idea on what map the question is about. If the poll was set to be fair, you would get an in game screen with the poll on it when you are of a certain wvw level…

Season 3 Soon?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

  • Living Story 3 chapters 2-3 months apart.

So basically no changes there? (what, especially during the 2nd half of season 2 they had more “breaks” then anything else).

  • Lower release frequency intentional, but quality intended to be higher.

hmm… quality of season 2 was pretty low on several occasions (like not telling rythlock the mordrem are already 5 feet behind him, rythlock spending ages to find the first part of the crown, but can’t spend 5min. for the other parts, chasing an egg without an explanation why it’s important WE have it and not caithe, chasing an egg (without explanation) being more important then help out the pact prepare for mordy, introducing characters in a way it’s extremely obvious they’ll die in the next instance, etc…).

Note that they say ‘quality’ will be higher (so they are NOT saying there’ll be MORE content in the updates). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that there won’t be more content (it’s perfect possible), but it’s anet so I’m not expecting more then what each season 2 update brought untill I see different…

  • 1 new Fractal – somewhere between a dungeon and raid like layout and difficulty.
  • Further fractals to be released later.
  • New PvP maps

Okay, I do fractals maybe once every few months when my guild can’t find anyone to join them (I find fractals overall sort-of boring), but shouldn’t the difficulty be set by the fractal tier? If so then what do they mean with ‘raid like difficulty’? Don’t we already have raids to raid?
I’m (sort of) happy with new pvp maps (although I pvp very little)

Dear devs: Please re-evaluate community input

They have been ignoring wvw for almost 3 years or so now. And now that they “major wvw update” (desert borderlands) failed, they realize there are other ‘realm vs realm’ games breathing down their neck. xD

desert is superior to alpine, numbers show alpine was the cause of dead wvw before hot and with hot and desert we see a big increase in activity in wvw again. Then when they removed desert the numbers started to plummet again and wvw is now dead.

lol? It’s the desert borderlands that put the nail in the wvw “coffin”. If you are interested in a full read on what went wrong with wvw then read this awesome post by Phantom.8130

List of Upcoming WvW Polls

in WvW

NathanH.1465

Mixed Borderlands NO to desert borderlands… Or at least in it’s current state. wvw is a “realm vs realm” kind of game, desert borderlands is just not good for that in it’s current state. It needs some major rework, because it’s lacking some major strategic options. For example: northern towers are of no strategic value (you can’t attack any other building from there). Also keep in mind that (in wvw) the players are supposed to be the actual content. If something isn’t helping players fight other players (in a fair way) or isn’t giving a reason to fight over a piece of land (like strategic value of the location, containing resource to upgrade building in other zones, etc…) then it doesn’t belong in there (a.k.a. no more pve events, especially not if they try to be a main attraction of the map). The desert border is also way too big for it’s own good (partly because it’s way to vertical. Vertical space doesn’t allow for any combat and fearing people off edges with my necro isn’t any fun as there is no real skill in that). But if you insist on bringing back to the desert borderlands back then let the pvp-team rework it (a.k.a. remove most pve events, make northern towers strategically important, open up the place for big fights (without both pve events and pve enemy interupting the fights), remove a bunch of the vertical space etc…). I suggest this desert borderlands to be in rotation with EoTM, and create a real “realm vs realm” map for the wvw.

World Linking Schedule don’t know… Monthly or maybe every 2 weeks? This way it gives a bit more variety to the match-ups.

Deployable Mortars / Deployable Cannons – NO. I mean at this point, how will they be different from setting up other siege? What purpose will these even serve? Siege is sometimes already overly present and too strong against players.
I suggest updates to current siege already in the game. Like enemies can use your siege too (it’s the same treb standing there as the one you use all the time, so why not? Would make you think twice if placing that ac there is really a good idea as you may need to remember to use that new ‘destroy this siege’ skill on the siege), maybe make siege less effective against players groups, etc… Also, as already said the current ones (Mortars, cannons and oil) are hardly being used as they make it easy for the enemy to kill you… fast… maybe ‘fix’ that first?

Repair Hammer Yes, but only if it’s limited to 1 or 2 repairs. You don’t want neverending fights ’cause everyone keeps repairing their siege. Some fights are already stupid enough as is with the siege….

WvW Priorities Fixing skill and serverlag. Sometimes you can tell where the enemy zerg is on the borders without seeing them (especially true when all 3 borders have full zergs running around). All you need to do is move the camera around, when your fps drops massively you know where their zerg is. Or when engaged in a fight with 2 other zergs and half of the skills don’t feel like working. I think that would be the biggest thing.

About the polls: Most of these questions cannot be answered in a decent way with just a “yes” or “no” options.

Hypothetically Speaking... New Worlds?

NathanH.1465

Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas for how to motivate people to de-stack ?

The first thing that comes to mind is, for anet to add several nice and wvw (exclusive) tracks and update the “out-maned” buff to give 25% (or so) faster track progression on top of cheaper (or free) transfers. Or just give that buff to any server for as long as they fall under a certain population limit. or maybe even split that buff (15% faster progression for being on a low tier and 10% extra progression when out-maned).
I have no idea on how many people would care about faster track progression, but we would at least need several good exclusive(!) tracks for wvw. (I believe pvp has several tracks not found in wvw, while wvw only has 1 track not available in pvp)

Currently there is no real reason to leave a winning server. An since people love rewards, just reward the low tier server more and make it easy (and cheap) to change servers (no point in changing servers if it takes a month or 2 to farm the needed gold to transfer)

edit: just to note that the 25% is a random number. Change it with whatever works better

NathanH.1465

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t like this idea.

The game launches and after a while in wvw some servers have a low wvw population, because people prefer to overstack the winning sides. HoT gets released and the pve map that got pushed to wvw is the final straw and kills the game mode for many players and it even basically killed some servers. To fix this anet introduced ‘server linking’. Basically low population servers get teamed up with server who are higher up the food chain.

But to fix the players returning and servers overstacking you want to introduce NEW servers? If history showed you 1 thing, then it would be that people like winning so much they’ll even want to overstack servers. So chances are high people will ignore the servers because, why give up being on the winning side? And 3 new (very) low population servers will be born.

How about updating the world transfer system to offer free (or very cheap) transfers to the current low population servers? Filling up existing servers seems a bit more of a priority to me… Even if it’s through something as stupid as a message when you’re in a queue like “your position is 38. Tired of queues? Join a lower tier server…” :/

Also: dropping an idea in less then a day, because the few people who saw it on the forums didn’t like it? At least give the thread some time oO

Hackers Capping Towers

NathanH.1465

These kind of hacks have been around for… a few years now. It usually goes like this: someone sees a hacker and creates thread on the forums, mods delete it, and with enough luck anet gives the cheaters a ban (usually after 1 or more reports at exploits@arena.net with some video’s or images). But anet doesn’t seem to be interested in actually fixing the problem… (it’s not pve and it’s not “esports” so they don’t seem to care)

What would you like to see in Season 3?

  • About rythlock’s journey in the mists
  • Malyck’s tree
  • How the pale tree is doing now mordy is gone
  • What the nightmare crowd was doing in the HoT zones (at least faolin was there before she was under mordy his mind) and what will they do now that they lost one of their most important characters
  • proper respect at a grave of a certain someone who died in the HoT story
  • Something so to make rata novus wasn’t a huge waist of time earlier in the story
  • Let them invent the telephone or at least let them use the birds to send messages (sorry, but during season 2 there was way to much of “let’s go over to see if she has news, getting there will take around 2 weeks even though any bird can even take 5 legendary greatswords to the other side of the world in less then a second but somehow can’t cary a simple letter”)
  • a more coherent story then season 2. For example Rrythlock claiming the mountains would stop mordy his minions even though we fought those minions 5 feet behind him, or rythlock spending ages to find the first part of the crown but couldn’t be bothered to spend 5 min. to get the other parts, never telling us why the egg is so important (I mean the egg has had more story related attention then mordy had in his own EP), etc…
  • going to the crystal desert (hey, one can hope xD )
  • ALL ingame video’s to be skippable (for achievement purposes)
  • No cliffhangers at the end of each episode that will never get answered/resolved (Iike how every single episode of LS2 did)

New maps should affect world completion %

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

hmm… Just having all maps count toward 100% would cause some problems. Like players who only bought the base game would lose the ability to craft a legendary (world completion is needed for a legendary) and in a few years that “gift of exploration” would need a ridiculous amount of grind to get (this is assuming HoT zones don’t die out as at it’s created with group events).

How about this:
A “counter” for each “region”. The (original) base game would be “kryta”. The expansion would be the region “Magus Falls”. And a “global” counter that would show the progress of all regions together would also be added.
Could look something like this: http://i.imgur.com/IkHSfff.png
(Quickly put together, I’m not an artist so may not look very nice, but I’m sure anet can design better).
So Kryta region is what base game has and gives the “gifts of exploration”. The other region(s) would get their own rewards)

Suggestion: Subscription Plans

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NathanH.1465

  • I think you are underestimating how much money anet makes from people who buy gems to convert to gold (especially since anet keeps nerfing and/or removing most farming spots in this game)
  • It’s already bad enough that anet pulls stuff like ‘HoT having only 1 glider’ but within a month time 7 others have appeared in the gem store.

China has a subscription program called ‘Royal title / VIP benefits’ (or something like that). It costs 1250 gems every 30 days (see https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Royal-Club/4571749 )
This image sums it up too: http://imgur.com/a/k9GA4#12

Let’s see how GW2 is doing in china:

I’m not saying GW2 isn’t doing well in china because of the subscription, but the sub most certainly didn’t help there either.

And when the “VIP”-files were found in the english version of GW2 the community was very clear on it’s hate for a subscription: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/VIP-Membership

(I didn’t find recent numbers/stats)

What ratio between game and gem is to far 4U?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

I don’t mind them selling a bunch of stuff on the gem store (we do buy the game once but anet has to pay their monthly costs). The thing I have a problem with can be summerized as:

  • Them adding stuff you can’t earn only buy: glider (and mail carriers), etc…
By default you have 1 glider and 1 mail carrier), couldn’t they have added 1 or 2 gliders (and mail-carriers) that you earn through achievements? I’m not asking for a dozen free ones, just 1 or 2 to be earned through achievements. Seeing as how we can have around 7 gliders or so in the gem store in a month time. 1 or 2 through achievements shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
  • It’s a 50 dollar expansion, I really expected for more weapons/armor to be able to be earned. (as long as not all of them are earned on a rng based method. Like the almost unobtainable teq. set (getting 1 item can be a massive time-based rng sink, never mind getting 2 or 3 of them and just forget about getting the whole collection. Same thing goes for the ‘Leystone armor’ in the dragon stand map)
  • Horrible gem store interface: (Yes, I know this is a personal opinion). For example the ‘style’ tab needs filters for outfits, backpacks, individual pieces, weapons. Preview on different races/genders (currently going to dulfy for that). Special option so necromancers can see what their staff auto-attack would look like. Filter between: harvesting cycle, logging axe, etc… for the ‘special’ tab, and stuff like that.

Overall: I think the wait for the expansion was too long and the price too high for there to be this little (earnable) stuff in it. For all I care: they can create a dozen of outfits and gliders and mailcarriers a day and I would have no problem with that. The only thing I expect is a functional store AND a being able to earn some different skins in a game.

So freaking bored

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

I’m getting bored too. I’ve seen the maps, done the meta, finished the story . Got the elite specs that I care about. The only thing left is helping my friends with the guild hall (around 5 or 6 people in it, so may take a while). But otherwise? I don’t like the new gear all that much (so no need to farm that).

The story was better then most of the previous stuff, but was still lacking some important stuff. Overall it felt rushed, I understand that they wanted to add some “emergency” to the story but it ended up being more like “let’s hurry up and kill mordy but first let’s find the egg, save my friends and oh mordy needed some killing”.
No follow up on the pale tree? Rythlock saying “I’ll explain latter cub, but did never do so”. My sylvari went into the machine that made scarlet crazy, but at the same time canach is more troubled with mordy then I am.
The egg is super important (so important that the expansion that supposed to be around mordy focusses more on the egg then on the actual subject of the expansion). At some point caithe states that the egg chose me as “it’s champion”, does that mean we are a dragon-champion (like how we mordy his champion showed up in season 2)? I mean does that mean we are ‘corrupted’ by the dragon? How (and when) did the ‘egg’ choose us as it’s champion?
Also rata novus tells us that each dragon has a weakness. We seriously had to learn that? Let’s use our plain old logic here: We killed zhaitan —> killing elder dragons is possible --> killing something means it’s not perfect in every way —> it’s not perfect so it has a weakness/flaw --> if one dragon has a weakness other dragons do to. But nooo we had to actually learn that dragons had A weakness and that’s it (no we don’t know what the weakness of each dragon is)… a.k.a. rata novus was even big waste of time…

For a game that costs 50 bucks, I expect the game to not crash every 30 minutes (by default, 64-bit version helps but still crashes on me although not as often). More maps/maps that don’t focus on the “better grind for the meta and masteries ‘cause it’s all there is”. The empty maps, full maps where everyone stands at a waypoint doing nothing(a.k.a. Dragon’s stand) show it doesn’t work. To have a story with some kind of ending… (answering some questions, following up on people, etc… (I know the story continues in living story 3 but I feel it still needed an ending of some sort)

The expansion is pretty small, I blew through the story in less than an hour and don’t really feel compelled to play through it again just to get slammed with bugs from the last boss. The quality of the storytelling was very low as well.

without the mastery grind, it’s indeed not much more then 1 hour :/

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Short version: 7.5/10

Long version:
Note: below I also put my reasoning for the score in here together with some minor suggestion for improving stuff.

Story: 8/10
I haven’t completed the story yet, but it’s being pretty great. They lost points for requiring specific masteries at regular intervals.
Also: can we also have a way to ONLY see the achivements tied to a story instance? (as they are grouped together for each act in the ‘achivement panel’ :p)

Mastery points / skill points: 7/10 – The idea isn’t bad. I only fear that (since some of them are hard to reach) in a month (or so), when the maps die down a bit, it will be impossible to get some of these mastery/skill points done on both your alts and for new(er) players. For the simple reason that some of them are hard and require a group. Problem being that people either can’t get there (lacking the needed masteries) or they are too hard too reach and people won’t bother going to help out. (Being kitten itself is not a problem, but it requiring a group may become a problem in the future)
Suggestion: Scale the mastery and skill point stuff, depending on how many people are around :p (This has the added benefit, that they can’t simply be ‘zerged’ down by 20 people like I have seen happening :p)

Mastery lines: 7/10 – On itself not a bad thing. I just hate how the story forces a certain mastery on you. I heard you need one to be at level 4 (forgot what one it was, but it’s still a bunch of grind just to do 1 story instance) For me, it also felt (when entering ‘verdan brink’ for the first time) I couldn’t do anything because I didn’t have any mastery.
And I haven’t done the math, but are there enough mastery points to fill up every mastery? (I think achivements are the only way of getting them, and I’m not sure if there are enough of them. Let me know if I’m wrong. I’m just scared of the story forcing me to get a mastery point and I’m not able to find more mastery points ’cause I spend everything on other mastery lines :p)
Suggestion: Have a pvp track. If you completed the entire line. You get mastery point (or maybe get a ticket. 10 tickets = 1 mastery points? Again just worried about the amount of mastery points :p). This may get more people into pvp and forcing them to at least try to be good at it (hey positive thinking at work )

Specialization: 8/10 – The only problem I have is that currently hate the idea of doing that massive (skill point)-grind on every class.
Suggestion: Now you 1 long ‘thing’ to spend points on. Just split them in 1 for only skill and 1 only containg “trait”-stuff. People will still need the same amount of points but can choose what they want to focus on first (that awesome skill or that nice trait).

Punishing those that didn't buy.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Point 1: No doubt, we WERE paying customers… but it was 50-60 bucks… one time… and got to play for what, 3 years? Anet believes we got our value , simple as that.
I hate what they did to fractals/dungs, and they deserve flak for it, but heh, welcome to the business of… well.. doing business lol. They want to make HoT as attractive as possible, unfortunately they decided to do so by flipping off the core gamers.

Point 2: that was NOT enough revenue. Why do you think anet stopped Living Story for the past year almost and decided to work on an xpac? REVENUE.

Gemstore sales aren’t going to keep this game afloat. Anet saw that and this was the reaction. HoT.

Also Living story sales? really? ain’t no one buying that nonsense outside a handful of extremely casual players who are deeply into that stuff…. If I want a single player story mode like progression, I go play a well developed single player game like Witcher 3.

1) So? You still paid for that stuff. If I buy a tv* and use for 3 years no store is coming to take it back ‘cause they haven’t made enough money from me those 3 years :p
For ANY bussiness there is 1 thing more important then money and that’s your (existing) customers. The better you treat your customers the higher the chance they’ll return for more (and sometimes even get their friends to join). If you don’t they tell their friends not to bother (meaning less customers for anet) resulting in less profit for anet.

2) If it wasn’t enough, then why did it take them so long to to release an EP? The living world begin in oktober/november after the game release (coupled with gem store stuff). And if nobody buys season 2, then why do they still charge money for it? They could have included it in the EP (as some sort of gesture). Besides there is no way to know how money people actually bought it (unless there is a detailed financial report I’m missing)

  • Since anet likes to compare their Living stuff to some series, I found it a bit fitting to compare the entire game to a tv. lol

Except that you paid for certain stuff and now anet takes it away from you for no (good) reason at all. You paid for stuff and now anet

Anet would just respond by saying “goodwill? really? 3 years of free updates after initial 60 dollar purchase IS good will. Now pay up if you want more!”

Goodwill isn’t worth anything, if they “undo” it after a little while :/

NathanH.1465

Anet doesn’t generate revenue with subs. It has to have other means of income.

This is where it comes in… it makes logical sense to entise players to BUY the xpac….

At the end of the day, Anet is a business, and they need income to operate it.

They will do whats best for them, its a business decision.

They don’t give a crap that core game players are HILARIOUSLY left behind in terms of making progress in GW2….

All the good money making strategies are now tied behind HoT…(raids and fractals, SW will be chump change compared to the new HoT Map rewards)

Want a more diverse and potentially BETTER spec to PvP/WvW with? pay up and buy HoT for elite specs… otherwise, you will get roflstomped in PvP/WvW by better specs.

its a cheap move, no doubt, but at the end of the day, anet is a business. They value THE PAYING CUSTOMER. NOT THE FREE.

I believe you are forgetting something:

  • what about those that bought the base game (before HoT was on sale and/or before the ftp move)? They are paying customers, yet anet “rewards” them with… removing content and putting it behind an EP? How would you feel if they announce another new expansion, when it comes out they remove all raids and you cnly play them again if you buy that new EP? That’s what happend with fractals.
  • besides (as mentioned) they already have other means of income: the gem store AND people buying the living world (season 2).

Maybe I’m just “old fashioned” but I believe people would be happier to pay for an EP if it adds new cool stuff (like add more fractals, more levels update, more dungeons, etc…) and not because what they have is removed and/or nerfed into crap unless you buy the latest EP… Doing this (removing/nerfing stuff) only tells me that anet has NO confidence in their own product

NathanH.1465

(Note: never played BWE2 didn’t have any time back then. So I’ll be comparing this BWE to the first one)

Playing the first BWE story instance was more fun ‘cause the enemies were a challenge (the snipers were a little bit op and yes the npc still needed to learn to get out of the red circles). Seeing Rythlock felt like "let’s go kill some sylvary together, ‘cause I don’t mind the help"…
Now all the enemies are melting to my autoattack (just like they do in queensdale). Even in the open world the veterans melt for my autoattack and rarely seem to do damage.
Seeing Rythlock now I was like ‘hey listen, got to kill a dragon, I’ll be back in a few minutes. We’ll catch up then, okay?"

It feels like all the enemies are now just as “smart” as the necro his ‘flesh golem’ :/

I don’t mind them turning the mob density down a little compared to BWE 1 (so that I can actually get to places… but the difficulty is ridiculous… starter zone ridiculous to be exact…). Also, removing the snipers? why? Reduce the amount of snipers orreduce their damage or something… but completely removing them? I just… sigh It felt so good the first time I killed them :/

Also the ‘Legendary Wyvern’ was more difficult (at least in the beginning), but once we got him down to 30-40% of his health it suddenly seemed to go down much easier and faster (not sure why) and wasn’t much of challenge anymore.

I’m (kind of) surprised that anet didn’t see this rage coming.

Some of the stuff they are hyping isn’t tied to the expansion: new trait system, new wvw borderlands, …

And on the other hand, there is still a lot of important information that we are still lacking… Like: a release date, what endgame content will be there, (still only current dungeons?), will there be raid instances, what new fractals will we get? How much personal story will be added*? How many new zones (total) will we get? (rumors say 2 or 3, but I’ve don’t think this was already confirmed?)
Will the engine get any updates? You now… stuff like will this game get an actual AI for the enemy/pets/minions? (a.k.a. no more actively running into AoE, flesh golem that’s more usefull then a rock, etc…). Will living world season 2 be included**? How long untill Season 1 will finally(!!!) be available?

What we do know is: we only get very limited amount of new zones 1 new class, 1 specialization for each class, crafting precursors, guild halls,… . This is all awesome by itself but not worth the current price. Especially considering that I payed around 50 euro for this game around 2 weeks after it launched (a.k.a. same price, but a LOT of more content)

Biggest problem (my opionion) is that the info we DO have is too little and too spread around. They made this exact same mistake with the last feature update. Every article contained very little new information just so they could spread the info into more articles).

And since it is/was sold saying it included the base game. you would think that they would give people who upgrade an extra key for the base game that they could use on a 2nd account or give to a friend. Otherwise how about new weapon set were people who upgrade can choose 3 good looking exclusive(!!!) skins (so not obtainable in any other way)? Maybe create the set in a few different color combinations so people can choose between them? (lowest tier could choose 2 weapons, middle tier 3 weapons, highest tier 4 weapons?)

optionally we still need to find out how teq. update tied in with the living world, , who is the ‘mr. E’ and how does it come that he seems to know *everything?
How the ‘fall of abadon’ fractal would have tied in with living world (hey, I’m still curious about that :p )

**Also: still no Living World Season 1

Necromancers

in Necromancer

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Necromancers are loved in a WvW zerg (or at least when not everyone shows up as a necromancer.) I’ve been in several wvw guilds and they all said they loved my necromancer. And oh if you’re interested that meta build is at: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Necromancer_-_Wells_Backline ).

As far as specialization goes: Just keep in mind that necromancers tend to be selfish dark-themed casters. So they most likely won’t get much of supportive or group skills.

But most of all: make sure you have fun while playing the game. Meta build or no meta build

Profession most broken and least played?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NathanH.1465

My main is a necro and there are good builds for us, but most of the time we are … (as a class) useless. The necro’s problem is a combination of

  • the overall very crappy AI this game has. With Minions that don’t attack, attack the wrong target, run into AoE (just like pve bosses) , stand still in AoE (just like pve bosses), etc… once could easily say that there isn’t any intelligence in this game)
And somehow the Flesh golem can be even worse then the other minions and bosses, despite him being an elite skill…
  • conditions are worthless in pve. A normal enemy melts under any attack, while bosses are either immune to conditions, or other classes (not necessarily condition builds) have already put a stack of 25 bleed and 25 vulnerability on the boss. And since the stacks don’t go higher your extra bleed/etc… just doesn’t do anything especially since it gets replaced by a bleed from a different class…
For example: each time I’m doing Teq. (with my ele) he has a stack of 25 bleed and 25 vulnerability. Meaning that if I’m bringing a condition necro, I would be completely useless and could just as well sit in a corner until it’s over… Just because that’s how conditions work
  • horrible trait design, worthless traits, traits that are seemingly in the wrong tree. Add to that the fact that necro has almost no defense (their defense is attacking), yet we don’t have any good stability (or mobility) access.

But despite all that I’m loved in my WvW-guild as long as not too many necros show up, because a zerg doesn’t need too many necros…. If too many necros show up, some of us have to get on our guardian to give the necros more stability :/

And as far as dungeons go… we can replace a thief but only if no stealth is needed AND we run with a dagger in our main hand. And since speed running is all about stealthing everyone and skipping as many mobs as possible… we don’t have much of a spot in (most) speed runs.

The only problem necro-specific problem is the traits/no defense part. The other problems (non existing AI, how conditions work, stale dungeons, etc…) are game problems that make a necro feel like badly designed and thought out class put in at the very last second without considering how the game actually worked….

AngryJoe Interview - HoT Questions for Devs?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Hey Angry Joe,
I have 2 questions:

  • Will we get an updated engine (like directx11/12 support). I have games that are graphical more intense and yet run with higher settings then GW2 does.
  • My 2nd question exists out of 2 parts. I’m not sure how much you know of the ‘Living world’ so I’ll try to cover the basics (as my question is about that).
When the game launched we had the personal story. After launch they continued the story using the ‘Living World’. ‘Season 1’ were basically big (none instanced ) events that usually required everyone on the map to work together. Season 1 updates stayed for 2-4 weeks and then got removed completely. Then we got ‘Season 2’, this worked much like the personal story does. Every 2 weeks you could ‘unlock’ a new part of the story for free, if you didn’t log in for those 2 weeks you have to pay 200gems for each ‘episode’.

(And now my question): An expansion usually attract new people and also people who left and now return. The story of the expansion continues after season 2. Will the expansion contain both season 1 and season 2? People who are new (or come back) will play the personal story (and kill zhaitan) and then discover there is a massive story gap (as season 1 isn’t anywhere in the game) and season 2 is (currently) behind a separate paywall (8 episodes for 200 gems each). So they’ll find the story going from being a pact commander working for trahearne to exploring the area with some wanna-be-adventures who they have no relation ship with (as they can’t play season 1).
So will the expansion contain season 1 and season 2 or will they risk telling a story that doesn’t make any sens and potentially even turn off people (since season 2 is behind a seperate paywall)

Also sorry, for the wall of text that (hopefully) makes some sense.

Regarding negativity about unknown content.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

The problem is the same as usual, we have no idea on when it comes, how much it costs and have no idea on what will be in it. We only have descriptions of ‘new pvp map, borderlands map, guild halls, unknown amount of new zones, unknown amount of new personal story, unknown subclass-system, unknown new class mechanics’.
Will we get a season 3? or a new feature pack? Will we still get new (small) content updates before the expansion pack hits?

We don’t even have information about what will happen for people who don’t buy the expansion. Will base game only people still be able to wvw when the new borderlands are active? If so then why is it even an ‘expansion’ feature and not a ‘feature pack’ feature? Will the subclasses be balanced with the non subclasses (so that in pvp/wvw the ranger has an equal chance when fighting druid, etc…)? How customizable will guild halls be? Will the new maps have ‘zone completion rewards’ (all new maps are lacking those).

And it’s not like he Living World was all that great. An unintresting (and at some points badly told) story that didn’t make much sense and didn’t bother explaining core ideas of the story (like why is that egg so important to our character? How did our char knew mordy’s name? Why did my ‘order of whispers’ character turn to the priory for help (you’re seriously saying order of whispers has no knowledge of their own and no spies in the priory?). Or how about the fact that the explanation of (when scarlet was roaming the world) we had to find a specific form post to understand of why certain alliances (like the toxic alliance) were even there?

So with the Living world not being all that great to many people and no idea on how big the EP will be (just that not to many major features will be in there) and only 1 subclass per class. People fear the worst… (Anet always promising great things and not always delivering doesn’t really help.

As for me: I’m not really complaining, but at the same time I’m not getting any hopes up until we (finally) get more info.

No new playable race? It makes me sad...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

So dissapointed that there is no new race and I sooo wanted a necro tengu

The biggest problem with introducing a new race is that they would have absolutely no way to work them into the original campaign against Zhaitan.

You’re forgetting that any new race doesn’t have to have the same story as the original compaign. Anet could easily focus on them creating their settlement and how they experienced the world defeating zhaitan and scarlet (without helping them), everyone being friendly with dragon minions (sylvari), how mordy was bothering them and set them to have a play in the next expansion/Season 3 (and so have them skip season1/2 and maybe make their personal story longer to compansate). As soon as the pact shows up in the Living World you pretend like you aren’t even part of an order anymore (Even in season 2 my ‘order of whispers’ character goes to the priory for help instead of diving in his own ‘secret’ books :/ )

And as far as the armor goes, they share the ‘char’ skeleton. And no anet doesn’t care about any kind of ‘clipping’ (otherwise the char and asura wouldn’t have so many issues).

Questions you want Answered

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

  • How will the WvW changes impact those without the expansion? (new borderlands in rotation sounds like it will have be available to all, unless you’ll prevent certain people of playing wvw in some weeks)
  • I’m guess the new pvp mode will have new maps. Will the new pvp map(s) be available in (un)ranked arena? If so what happens with people who don’t have the expansion?
  • When will we get to know more about ‘Profession Specialization’? Because access to new skill/traits/weapons is on itself not a specialization. I’m guessing it’s something like if you choose ‘specialization A’ you get a greatsword, otherwise a longbow?
  • Will the specializations also be balanced against players who don’t have the expansion (so that if wvw a zerg of specializations meets a zerg of expansionless players, both have an equal chance?)
  • ‘Guild halls’ – ‘As you build out your guild hall, your guild members can go on great adventures’. How does this impact those without the expansion? I assume they can’t join these adventures?
  • Can we buy the Expansion from within the game (doesn’t necessarily have to be with gems though)
  • How big are the new maps (and story) compared to the base game?
  • Will our character finally be important again (a.k.a. know how to make decisions and know how to talk)?

Edit: please tell me you removed all pve junk from wvw and it does have edges to knock/fear people off every 2 inches (a.k.a. tell me it is NOTHING like EOTM as that is only used as a champ/karma. train and is nothing like wvw should be)

I don’t get it. What do you mean he “cannot be damaged”? I managed to face off against him through circling him with fire and then damaging him. :/

Lucky you, lol. When I tried I couldn’t select him by cycling with the ‘tab’-button and manually select him showed the ‘Invulnerability’-buf. Not trying again though, knowing anet the ‘real’ challenge is him having a truckload of hp anyhow :p

Why didn’t we signal them as soon as both gates fell? Oh right it’s a cheap way of making an instance seem longer

NPE Feedback [Merged] - Please read 1st post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

The idea of the NPE and the traits isn’t bad, but how it’s handled is bad.

  • Having only 1 skill to start with and only hearts when the game begins? Why are the vistas and point of interest even locked out? They aren’t that hard or confusing. Showing more then 1 item on a map shows that there is more to do then grinding out boring quests with only 1 skill. Shouldn’t be hard (or confusing) to let the player start with 3 skills and at least hearts AND vistas (and/or point of interest)
  • having to ‘unlock’ downed mode? really? ‘Unlocking’ this is the completely wrong approach for something like this. A much better thing would be to force the player into downed state at a certain point inside the tutorial instance. With helpful message like “When you run out of HP you’ll find yourself in downed state. This state gives you a chance to get back up your feet. The first attack is always available and can be used to attack the enemy. If the enemy dies then you are saved.” with an arrow pointing to the first downed state attack. After a few seconds the game could point to the 4th skill with a small helpfull message.
  • Traits: I don’t mind going around unlocking stuff, but unlocking traits is just plain annoying, boring and a big grindfest. Having to do zone completion for every zone in the world? Events that bug out, group events that you have to solo because nobody cares about them? Or doing the personal story for every character? I got tired of the personal story after my 6th (or so) character. And even worse: what you unlock doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with the trait you unlock.
There is no variety in how you unlock a trait.

How about unlocking a trait to reduce falling damage by getting massive falling damage 15times total? And a more diverse amount of stuff to do. For example: a race/class specific npc that gives you a quest like “go find the place where the nightmares formed a tower but don’t use waypoints at all (this also means death = start over)”. If the player reached the goal (in this case kessix hill) the quest a trait could be earned.

  • Unlocking traits at lvl30 is too long of a wait. You want to introduce this much earlier so players can have a variety of stuff to do as soon as possible. Besides unlocking it at lvl15 and getting 1 trait points each 5 levels would make much more sense then 1 every so often and after a while 2 because you ran out of levels.

Accessing Season 1 Now

Dear Mr. Stein, cliffhangers do not work

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

sorry my post got cut off a bit early

The other problem with real time is that the current story is basically
"Mordremoth is the biggest problem ever. Even bigger then all the other dragons combined. Let’s wait here for 2 weeks while nothing will happen… at all…

Cliffhangers can work, but only when done correctly.
Like let the centaurs succeed in attacking the human capital, while we are distracted and go help out in the capital caith could take the egg and run off with it. Meaning that in we would need to find a way to trace caith… find out how in the next episode. (compared to “a no a door… let’s do 2 weeks of research to figure out how to open it. Just to have the next episode ignore the previous one altogether.”

Dear Mr. Stein, cliffhangers do not work

in Living World

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Cliffhangers CAN work if done correctly. The problem in this game is that:

  • cliffhangers never get resolved. An episode starts, stuff happens that never seem to progress the story and add the end some questions remain. The next episode ignores any and all questions and does it’s own thing.
  • they are NOT cliffhangers. Someone just keeps turning off the power in the middle of the episode… That not a cliffhanger, just an ’Annoyance"
  • ’Cliffhangers from season 1 seem either ignored or forgotten by the devs.
    For example:
    • why did scarlet do what she did? Waking up the dragon might have been a side-effect of her true intentions.
    • Who was in really her head? It would be silly at best if mordremoth corrupted her, so she could wake him up.
  • There are more breaks then anything else (3 ‘story’ from season 1 and 7 from season 2… woohooo a full year to provide a lot less then any other game does)
  • Everything is rushed and badly explained: why is the egg important to our character? Or at the end of the PS story we didn’t even know Mordremoth existed while at the start of season2 his existence was common knowledge, “Because of the PC’s assumed rank in an organization that deals in fighting dragons, and that such knowledge isn’t really a secret” (from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/Naming-Mordremoth/4236417 ). You would think that a game around elder dragons discovering the existence of a new elder dragon would have more build-up to this instead of just dropping his name everywhere… (sorry, but the writers should have easily seen and take care of this problem)
  • the player is of no real use in the story. Let’s face, if we take the story and we remove ourself from it the story remains pretty intact. The personal story did better in that aspect… I mean we still knew how to talk and knew how to make choices. Compared to the Living World we get ‘others make choices and we tag along to write it down…’ This is a problem because of the episodic structure and it’s planning . Besides do all races really need different voice actors? Wouldn’t strike me odd if they used 1 male voice actor for human and sylvary then use a program to make the voice a bit heavier for norn/char, etc…
  • the fact that the entire world is frozen in time (2 years ago) doesn’t help either. So… how is war between humans and centaurs going? They have attacking near the human capital for 2 years now? Or how is the peacy treaty between human and char evolving? Or how are the other dragons doing? Are they still limiting the most danger to the parts they already control? etc… So no problems anywhere, just mordremoth and an egg we need for breakfast? How convenient…

Actually you are wrong here. The way the LS is presented is more immersive, the immersion-killing design is doing the complete PS as a level 80 in a row. How is it unrealistic to have some DOWNTIME between adventures????

Let’s take the last LS part for example, in the end Marjory is going to the Priory to research the new symbols we found at the cave Wayne entered. Just like all the previous parts, the next part will probably begin with a mail, this time from Marjory saying “Hey, I had a breakthrough in my research, come and see me.”

So you are saying it’s not immersion-killing that you get this mail a couple of SECONDS after Marjory leaves to start her research? “Hey I’m going to research this”, couple of seconds later a mail arrives “Hey I made progress come see me”. Does this make sense to you?

The LS is made in a “real time” way and as such it makes sense. They split the parts of the story in ways that makes sense, usually because some character is going to do some research or a subject. That research can’t possibly and realistically happen in the couple of seconds required to press H, go to LS and select then next part.
… <snip>…

That depends on how it is written. The current Living world story is horrible written in the aspect of “time”. the problem with “real time” in a game is that you don’t know when the player will play those episodes. New(er) players may do them all in a row on a rainy afternoon. Since it is in real time new(er) players literately go from “I’m going to do research” to “all done” in … seconds. Other players might have taken a 3 month break from the game after episode 2. This problem didn’t really exist to the extent it is now. It’s normal that there is a time between 2 updates… but real time doesn’t really here. The other problem with real time is that the current story is basically
"Mordremoth is the biggest problem ever. Even bigger then all the other dragons

They seriously need to get a new person who is in charge of the release schedule.

So.. when they did tell us Episode 8 was the last episode? You never answered that.

They said that “The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1” (episode 4) would be followed by a mid season break. so,episode 4 would be halfway through the season.

Taken from http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-trailer-teases-the-dragons-reach-part-1/

“The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1 will be the penultimate fortnightly Season 2 release before the Living World goes on a mid-season break.”

Taken from http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/08/12/guild-wars-2s-living-world-mid-season-finale-launches-today/
“The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2, launches today, opening a brand-new explorable area within Dry Top and adding PvP perks. Says ArenaNet, … The launch brings to a close the first half of this current living world season; the storyline will resume “this fall.”

So 1 more episode and that will be the end of season 2. If season 3 will be like season 2, then the season 3 will start at the start of July…
It feels like anet isn’t even trying to give us an ‘expansions pack’ worth of content, they aren’t even matching the amount of content that other games are producing.

I agree, this was way too short and very predictable.
The boss fights were not fun either (or at least not for my necro), as a necro I have no real access to stability the constant knockbacks and pulls were VERY annoying.

Anet has 300 people working for them. If the content updates are any indication of what they are doing (when not on ANOTHER break) then this game won’t have a long feature.

Doesn’t anet realize that this update needs to keep us busy until at least the next content update? And prevent us from wondering to other games (and staying there)? At the end of this season, they better have an full blown expansion ready (or at least announce if for the very near feature).

But (knowing anet) there will be another break coming. During this break another WvW season will happen and SAB will still not be enabled again because it "doesn’t fit with the living world’ (even though it will be on break and that excuse doesn’t hold any point)

Edit: I realize everyone is human, but anet really needs to step their game up (especially compared to other games/companies). It’s just that 300 people must be working on something big. But they have been working on “something” for 2 years now. But let’s face it… they create a new zone and can’t even be bothered to add it’s currency to the wallet (that we got to easily store all our currency in)…

Flying ships not on a predetermined trajectory? That’s like minions doing something usefull in this game (I’m looking mostly at you flesh golem). It might happen, but only by accident. :p

Before adding something this complex, I believe they should improve the intelligence of both npc and minions first (for example: stop running towards enemy AoE, don’t keep standing inside red circles, attack my enemy instead of doing nothing, etc…).
Because with the current AI I can see an npc insist to take over the wheel of the ship, just to fly into a mountain because he though the mountain would move out of our way :/

  • I’m playing a human necromancer who saved the queens life. Why does someone who never had any dealings with the queen have a better chance of getting her to the summit?

Because, sadly, not everyone is playing a human character who met Jennah. As an asura, I’d rather try to convince the Arcane Council myself, but instead Taimi does it via Zojja. It’s just easier from a scripting position.

As a player, how easy (or difficult) something is for them isn’t my problem. They created that mess, so they should write themselves out of it. It would even have been as easy as anyone of them saying something like:
“Hey, you know Trahearne, the leader of the pact, no? Since we will be fighting a dragon he should be at that summit too. I mean we WILL be fighting a dragon after all. This way everyone will have to invite 1 person to the summit. Good luck all”.

That line would solve following problems:

  • Ease the fact that they ‘forgot’ the pact altogether as soon as the personal story ended. We went from we (the pact) killed zhaitan to ‘here are 5 strangers who somehow are your best friends…’. I even still wonder why I’m still around with them, why am I not with the pact fighting dragons?
  • A letter from Trahearne appearing out of the blue (I imagine the pale tree talked to him about the summit, but as his right hand in the pact, I feel I should have contacted him too.). Trahearne could have even been in a non-spoken text dialogue instance…
  • Give the players a (somewhat) reasonable explanation on why we aren’t inviting the queen/zoja/etc…

Something like that shouldn’t be hard to do (or to come up with). I love the lore in this game. But the living-world-lore is making it hard to keep loving it :/

First of all: welcome ^^

Second: I think the living world story exists out of 2 main problems:

1) plot holes/contradictions/important story stuff missing from the game:

  • In ‘season 1’: we had no ingame background of scarlet. We simple knew she existed and was an ‘evil’ person. We had to read a seperate blogpost to know who she was (as a person) and why she went ‘insane’. That should have been in the game from the beginning. But in the game all we saw was a person who was evil, because the writers needed a bad guy (well.. girl in this case). Why she was doing the stuff she was doing is also never really explained in the game…
  • Rox is a char and a gladium. Gladiums end up outside of the chain of command, so the ‘living story’-group are the only friends she has. But whenever the story the story needs Rythlock (who is at the top of the chain of commands) she suddenly is his best friend?
  • At the end of the personal story (the story that existed when the game launched) tells us about a total of 5 dragons (zhaitan, Kralkatorrik, primordus, Jormag, Deep sea dragon). We had no idea Mordremoth even existed. But at the beginning of season 2 Mordremoth existense seems to be common knowledge. In 1 story instance we litteraly went from ‘Mordremoth doesn’t exist’ to ‘everyone knows everything about Mordremoth’. On the forums a developer said that we know Mordremoth through the order we joined in the personal story. The orders are made to fight dragons, we are 2nd in command in our order, Season 2 is all about Mordremoth but revealing that he even exists wasn’t big enough to happen in the game?
  • We ‘investigate’ the iron marches (some land of the char) and find mordremoth minions. 5 min. later we meed rytlock who claims that the mountains in the west will stop those minions. And (apparently) we don’t bother telling him they are already a few meters to the north of him.
  • I’m playing a human necromancer who saved the queens life. Why does someone who never had any dealings with the queen have a better chance of getting her to the summit?
  • We are (one of) the best commanders in the pact and right hand of trahearne. The pact basicly is the joined forces of the orders in the game. Toghether with the pact I defeated zhaitan. When we discover Mordremoth woke up, our first reaction is to … hold a summit? How does that make any sense given what happened in earlier in the story? The only logical step would have been to dump our living world friends and resume our JOB at the pact…
  • Flesh out the characters: everyone hates trahearne, because he had a bad job actor and NO background at all. The only thing we know of him is he is a scholar who needs to be a commander. He is the (besides our own char) the longest in the game, and the most important in the story. We meet at claw island where we wanted to warn on the coming attack, but we never even learn how he knew the attack would be coming…

2) Story badly translated to the game:

  • In ‘season 1’ several enemies (dredge and Flame Legion, krait and nightmare court, etc…) started working together for no apparent reason. You had to find post on the forums by a dev. to know why they started to work together. If something needs an explanation then that needs to be in the game.
  • Too many plotpoints in too little time: In only 4 updates: we linked scarlet to mordy, met another crazy sylvary, discovered scarlet’s old room, linked mordy to recent events, discovered a ley line, 2 forts got destroyed by mordy, Belinda was killed, demanded a summit just for fun, helped Rytlock to fix his crown, attempt to get rid of the ghosts, fought the champion of mordy. I wouldn’t mind if you put less amount of plot points in each update and this could resulting in more time to better explain the current story.
  • Rythlock goes through a lot of trouble to find a fragment of a crown, but couldn’t be bothered to spend 10-15min. to find the other parts? The idea of the ‘find the other parts’ was good, but was not so great in the game. It was literately a go to this point on the map and press ‘F’, repeat 4 or 5 times. I feel this could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Also: The achievements for the living world are kind of stupid. It’s basically you do what you just did all over again. I don’t know if you have any say on this, but I figured I would mention it anyhow. (maybe you could try and get us at least a ‘skip dialogues button’ ^^ )

As an addendum, I just want to say that your post – perhaps not intentionally or accurately – gives a pretty poor view of ArenaNet’s writers. The way you worded it makes it sound like “destruction is the only way we know how to advance a plot.”

I agree with minbariguy.7504 It doesn’t look like she is part of the writing team and probably doesn’t know what the writing-team will come up with when they write the story.
She also said:

Just a question here because I am curious.

So, I’m guessing she was well… curious about what we would come up with and maybe hint some of the writers some of the ideas she liked ^^

Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?

Easy, what about the Tengu leaving their big home town, to create a new settlement? Their current town, might be getting too small to house all the Tengu and when scarlet destroyed LA (the neighbour town) they might have decided that some of them might be moving to a new settlement in the (far) west because that would make them feel more safe… (only to bump into mordy, so that they’ll need our help :p ).
A new town will also make the Tengu stronger as a race, because when they have only 1 town and if it’s under attack their is nobody to help them out

This settlement could grow over time untill it’s an actual Tengu based city.
This could would have following benefits:

  • Get the Tengu involved with the Living World in the future (a tengu could even replace 1 of the current humans of the group :p)
  • Give us some more background about the Tengu
  • Make the Tengu a playable character (their personal story could be their point of view to everything that happened with scarlet. This would have the added benefit to make the important Living World stuff playable again. It won’t be exactly the same, but that wasn’t possible anyway as the Living world season 1 was 1 big zerg fest anyway )

Also: Cleaning up kessex hills and rebuilding LA come to mind. How realistic is it that nobody in tyria cleans up any of the dirt?

Feature Pack - Existing Players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NathanH.1465

NathanH.1465

Agreed. I understand it’s a ‘feature pack’ and not a ‘content pack’, but some expansion like content would be more then welcome by now.

In an interview they said they aren’t working on dungeon related stuff, don’t have any plans to bring SAB back (and I fail to see why they can’t just enable the existing SAB stuff for the month(s) that they will be on ‘break’ AGAIN)

After 2 years the only thing we are getting is: a big middle finger to WvW (really? 2 years and all we got is a date, account bound commander tags, OP siege blockers and making already OP golems even more OP), a bunch of stuff created at least 6 months ago for china (yes, that’s how much anet seems to care about us), more boring low level grind (unlocking personal story and weapon skills through level up and all because it’s so very hard to figure out how to click on that weapon skills you just unlocked)
Thankfully we don’t have to grind buggy events or solo group events (because nobody else is interested in that event) anymore for a trait… oh wait…)

I have a lvl80 for every class and even have world completion, I have done the dungeons, seen the fracals, the only thing getting me back in this game is the
wvw-guild-raids and that’s it. The living world is very little content with a bad story telling (filled with plot holes, inconsistencies, etc…) .
So, there is literately nothing for me to do in this game (done this, seen that, bored there too) and with no expansion in sight and wvw not getting updates (not even gem story skins for rams, ac, etc… ?) and not even new REAL features… Why keep playing?
All we are getting is what china got 6 months ago. .

At this point they could just announce it like this ‘GW2 china update – more grind coming soon to a continent near you’)

What do people want put into WvW anyways?

in WvW

NathanH.1465

  • Fix the getting stuck bug
  • Fix the teleporting and invulnerable dolyak-bug (= dolyak animation that can’t keep up with it’s actual location)
  • Fix the hackers/cheaters/griefers problem that some servers have.
  • Fix the fact that defending your keep/tower/etc… doesn’t give you any rewards at all.
  • Fix the subpar rewards in wvw, especially for scouts and commander (scouts report any enemy info, but that doesn’t give them any rewards and other players rarely send them stuff as they don’t really get much stuff themself. Commanders have to buy a tag (300 gold, 900-1200 if they want all colors) and need superior siege… So…where do they get the money in wvw again?)
  • Fix the subpar (often even bad) rewards from the wvw rank up chest. I don’t expect an exotic in every of those chests. But the guildies who are at rank 500-600 only had 1 ascended trinket with useless stats. On average I seem to get 2 greens, sometimes I get a rare and a green). With subpar loot in the wvw world, these chests can really use a boost (especially for commanders who are tagged up as they have superior siege and more tag colors to buy)
  • Fix the ‘outmanned buff’ to be actually usefull.
  • Fix balance stuff. For example: thief can ‘finish’ while being stealthed, but when a necro is in DeathShroud he can’t finish someone? How is that even fair?
  • Fix the ridiculous wvw achivements requirements (like we were promised, this shouldn’t even be a lot of work)
  • Fix the ranger and necro minions issues (‘running across the entire map to find you’ and ‘not attacking’ issues). (this problem isn’t specific for wvw, but still hurts). If a necro (or ranger) jumps of a small ledge the pets sometimes run around half the map before they can get to you, why can’t they jump after me? This problem is even more ridiculous when the pet can fly (bird really can’t fly down a ledge? Or over that small gap? It really needs to fly across half the map?)
  • Fix the rams (they are too weak when under AC fire.) For all I care, give them an extra skill that can be used every so often (through the wxp system), that reflects projectiles for a (short) while.
  • Golems are already pretty powerfull (sometimes already a bit too powerfull), with the new system they will be even more powerfull? This needs a fix…
  • Make that ALL classes have something usefull to bring to wvw. For example: Rangers aren’t welcome in wvw as they can’t do anything unique and usefull for wvw stuff (they also can’t seem to do something better then other classes can)
  • Rework the ruins (and the borderlands bloodlust buff). When people see they are outmanned they tend to go to a different borderland. Nobody will be bothering with the ruins (being outmanned the enemy zerg can easily undo your bloodlust buff)
  • When people even think that they can’t win the current match-up, they won’t show up in wvw at all. The fact that rewards in wvw are subpar and the chance of winning a fight (when being outnummered) are small (and so the chance of lootbags is seriously decreased doesn’t help…
  • Remove all PvE non-guard stuff (nobody seems to be doing them anyway).
  • Keep PVE out of wvw at ALL times (for example: during season 1, the ‘mysterious probes’ also showed up in wvw, since wvw is pvp and not pve they should have never been in wvw)
  • Remove or rework sentries (they rarely kill the dolyak and pretty much every zerg ignores them as to not give away their position)
  • First commander tags can cost 300 gold, getting an extra color should in no way cost 300 gold. Different colors can be used for better orginazation, but right now this ‘better orginazation’ would cost people around 900 extra gold (a.k.a. not gonna happen). If extra tags need to cost gold, then let it be maybe 50 gold?
  • Option to have a commander tag that is only visible for the guild you represent. So guild people can easily see where their commander is at all times (can even be it’s own color).
  • GvG game mode. Currently most of the GvG action is in the obsidian sanctum map. Several people always record the entire fight to that if the enemy guild says stuff like you cheated because you switched members during the fight/random people showed up and helped you, etc… you have a video to prove that it did (or didn’t happen). (Custom pvp arenas aren’t useable for gvg as pvp has capture points, limited people who can watch the fight, too few people who can participate in the fight, ‘unfair’ advantages (like trebs, possible boons, a big laser thingy, pve bosses, etc…)
  • Rotate borderlands maps. For example: week 1: current maps, week 2: swamp maps, week 3: desert, week 4: jungle theme (buildings like towers, garrison, etc… should look like they fit in with the weekly theme). Bonus points if all these theme’s are more then a color change (just make them NOTHING like eotm)

edit: sorry for the long list. It’s way longer then I thought it would be when I started typing.

SPOILER! All My Feels...

in Living World

NathanH.1465

So you’d still have to attend the Summit meeting, just inform Trahearne of all recent stuff, then let him talk, while you stand on the back, listening the same discussion.

Not really as there are 0 reasons for holding a summit.
First: to get them to attend the summit you listen to their problems (that they have since the beginning of the game), then prove you can help them (because killing an elder dragon and scarlet wasn’t enough). Next at the summit you get to hear the exact same problems again. And that’s it. After you listened to everyone’s problem (for the 2nd time), you fight some champion (followed by the bug where sylvari go heal to a hologram, you can’t heal a hologram, only the thing that generates the hologram. Because the hologram isn’t real, it’s fake…)
So the summit didn’t do anything at all and was just a big waste of time.

The pact exists to fight (and kill) dragons. Scarlet woke up mordy, and because mordy is playing with a few wp he needs to die first. The only logical step is to leave the ‘living world group’ behind and contact trahearne and rejoin our position in the pact, find out where mordy hides, what his weak spots are and then kill him.

The reason they didn’t do the ‘logical’ this is because of:

  • this wouldn’t put the sylvari in the center of the universe
  • anet seems to write a story around stuff that sounds cool, while it would be better is they wrote a story and put cool stuff in there

This is the last post I’ll make about it in this thread, as it’s starting to get off-topic

<snip>

Every war has politics…

Even in real life, right now, it’s all politics and nearly everyone trying to avoid it, regardless of someone suffering.

Your ‘best friends’ with a guy working in an gigantic organization solely focused on fighting dragons. So, why wouldn’t we contact him first? He works in organization dealing with our problem AND our ‘best friend’ is their leader and oh, we are (one of) their best commanders, so getting a hold of him shouldn’t be that difficult…

I didn’t feel anything. Why should I? At this point I’m sick of having the sylvari almost everywhere in the story. The only reason I actually fought the dragon is because I was stuck up there.

The fact that there was no reason for that summit in the first place certainly didn’t help (you discover that a new dragon awoke and instead of contacting the people that fight dragons, you contact the people that deal with politics) as it made it very predictable that an attack of that champion would happen (and as we are fighting a plant dragon, it was somewhat predictable that he would look like the champion plant dragon in the sylvari starter instance).

The only char. I “felt” something for was Tybalt… Great voice acting, great looking character, decent backstory (although these days it seems we need to be happy if a char even has a background in a timely fashion)
