Human, my character is modeled after Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
You can try both 20/0/30/20/0 and 0/0/30/20/20 out but as WereDragon stated, you will find that 20/0/30/20/0 provides more damage output. This is for a few reasons:
- A healthy balance between condition duration and damage is needed, and without the +200 duration from Deadly Arts, you are getting bleeds that don’t last long at all
- Using spider venom, you will get ~300 damage ticks every second while it is applied (if you land all 5 it is applied for ~45 seconds), plus the 33% decrease to their heal is effectively a dps booster. If you are worried about players removing this, use it when they are about to heal. Plus, if you take quick venoms the cooldown is reduced to 35 seconds.
- The extra power is significant enough to warrant it
- Traits such as gaining might when applying venoms, combined with gaining might while in stealth make up for the lacking condition damage
- Using sigil of corruption will have your bleeds ticking at around 130 at 25 stacks, with each bleed hitting 6-7 times.
Personally I feel that the trickery traitline is much more for trolling, as it is much harder to die with the extra initiative and all of the escape utilities you can use. That being said, it lacks the dps to kill stronger players, and you may find that while you can live in outnumbered fights, you will find it hard to get many kills.
The Deadly Arts traitline is less forgiving with less initiative and little to no escape utilities, but if played well you can dominate in outnumbered fights.

Firstly, in my experience these traps are very rarely used. But if they are there is a large animation of a swirling black vortex when the trap is triggered, if you see this, run. Thieves have some of the best abilities to reset a fight, some of them not requiring stealth. Personally I just shortbow away, and used terrain to deny them line of sight.
We should have a fight club. I feel like everybody desperately needs to blow off some steam.
For p/d, if you set up your traits in the deadly arts line, and run venom’s you will have far superior dps than a p/d thief in the trickery line. This is an extremely good build for 1v1s and 1vMany.

If you read the leaderboard FAQ it states that leaving a game mid-game will result in a loss on the leaderboard.
If backstab and mug and cloak and dagger does less damage, what is the problem with that? You would have to guess where your enemy is.
People complain already that thieves stealth to often – and in comparison to other MMO’s we have access to stealth way more often as it is already. It isn’t fun fighting something you cant see. Even with the reduced damage, the ability to backstab at a much higher rate would end up as higher DPS. Also this play style would be hellishly boring, following your opponent hitting 5, 1, 5, 1 constantly.
u know how long stealth is….that said u know when to evade…. right before the 3-4 seconds is up.
u know once u get a thief immobilized/chilled/stunned they are dead……do it
u know if you retal/burn/blind a thief is a dead one…..do it…..
you know if u evade/block a thieves first OR second strike they lost out on 75% of their burst dmg…..DO IT.
L2P and stop complaining.
Sorry I think you haven’t fully understood our conversation as we were talking about the full removal of the revealed debuff, not the currently existing game play. So this can’t really be a L2P problem. Anyways this thread is getting a bit derailed so hopefully we can get back on topic.

I think they should remove Revealed all together and just lower the damage of abilities. And lower initiative costs as well.
Also, remove the “Shadowed Protectors” Regeneration limit, it makes boon duration a debuff. Maybe even turn it back into “Protection” like it used to be.
Sorry but I don’t really agree with this at all. I can see this ending up with players doing backstab – C&D – backstab over and over again, being only visible for milliseconds. And this is only the first thing that came to mind. But this post is more about the difference in timers between PvE and PvP, because I don’t think they are going to remove revealed anytime soon.
Glad to know that I am not alone with this opinion. They can alter the damage, and other attributes of a skill between PvE and PvP, but changing cool down times may negatively affect game play.
Also, even though this topic isn’t about my feelings towards the revealed change, I thought I may throw my thoughts in about it. Personally I feel like the removal of culling plus the revealed change was far too drastic, and had negative impacts on more builds than I think Anet was targeting.
Just to mention off the bat – sorry I’m ranting about something that hasn’t even happened yet. I’d just rather it not happen at all than wait a month for it to be changed again. Anyways onto the meat of the post.
It has been mentioned by Jonathan Sharp that they are debating changing the revealed timer back to 3s, but it seems like this change will only be happening in PvE. Now this post isn’t about whether or not I feel as if the revealed change is a good/bad thing, instead I want to focus on having two separate revealed timers.
When the revealed timer was changed, I spent the next few days cursing at myself as I constantly stealthed before the debuff had expired. It took some time but eventually my mind adjusted its internal timer and I was back to fluid gameplay. Once you get comfortable with your profession you tend to not need to look at the timers on the screen – your brain takes care of it.
My concern is that it takes time for the mind to adjust its internal timer, something which could cause a fair amount of frustration for players that are constantly shifting between PvE and PvP play. This goes for any skill/buff/etc that may be planned to have separate cool downs between PvE and PvP.
Feel free to share your opinions.
TL;DR : The revealed timer may be changed back to 3s but only in PvE. Having different cool downs on abilities/buffs/etc in PvE compared to PvP may be jarring to players that constantly switch between PvE and PvP play.

Something that you can do right off the bat is make sure to have traits blind on stealth, and remove conditions while in stealth activated. The blinds will make it much harder for the opponent to land C&D, and the constant condition removal will nullify most of their damage.
Although after saying that, I’ve run a P/D build for quite some time and while fighting D/P thieves is quite tiresome, I can’t recall ever losing to one. The tip above will help tremendously in killing 90% of P/D thieves but skilled ones will be able to out last you.
They can do this by:
C&D off surrounding NPC’s.
Predicting your location in stealth and either dodging the BS or C&D’ing off you.
Using devourer’s venom for CC to get an easy C&D.
Applying other conditions such as weakness to lower your dps, as well as not allowing you to remove bleeds as easily.
Positioning and timing from stealth to ensure the sneak attack lands all 5 hits.
Half the battle is knowing your enemy and hopefully these tips will help you!

My question was meant literally – if fotm is not “flavour of the month” then what is it? “Frog on the move” would be good.
Unfortunately it isn’t anything as exciting as Frog on the move. It stands for Fractals of the Mists.
Kinda expected more from OG considering how much they talk on these forums… was pretty disappointed when I finally ran into them. 3 thieves exploiting culling issues? A pretty bad warrior (though nice legendary sword!)? And an D/D ele? Yawn.
Congrats though! You finally killed me as I started lagging
Culling issues arise when there is a high concentration of players. As Bunzy stated before, the player should not be held guilty for this as it is a current problem with the game. To imply that players should not use invisibility because of this is absurd and unrealistic.
If you would like to face a thief and not have to deal with culling issues, try leaving the safety of your zerg.

Dante Auditore
Inspiration came from two of the coolest characters in games. Dante is from the Devil May Cry series, and Auditore is from Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed. My character’s appearance is modeled after Dante’s, and the popped collar on his coat while dual wielding pistols makes him look incredibly alike to Dante. And yes, my character is a thief.
