So, I’m a protected species now? Why do people still mercilessly hunt me then?
Not that they can catch me, mind you.
[YOHO] – Its a Pirate Life for Me
I just noticed that my guildmate, the kitten he may be, did post the build with the incorrect traits.
The correct traits are as follow:
10/0/30/30/0
Forceful Explosives in the Explosives trait line
Stabilized Armor, Power Shoes, and Elixir-Infused Bombs in the Inventions trait line
Fast Acting Elixirs, Self-Regulating Defences, and Backpack Regenerator in the Alchemy trait line
Also, if you guys would be willing to give suggestions on how to improve this build, in your opinions, I’m more than happy to hear them. I’m the one that’s actually running the build, not Lurock (as you guys said, he doesn’t have much experience with Engineer).
I am curious about one thing though, how is Cleaning Formula 409 better condition cleansing than Elixir C?

Lurock, I have actually been meaning to make a write up for this build and post it, but you beat me to it! I’m the engie that he was talking about that caused this fun, murderous build to occur, and from first hand experience, the only real ways I die in WvW are by being mobbed by a zerg, fighting a group that has a ton of immobolizes, or from screwing up. Any other way, I don’t die.
Also, @Resouled, from personal play, I’m pretty sure that on swap and on crit Sigils aren’t sharing CDs.
Another note, on Weapon Swap sigils are triggered whenever you swap into or out of the bomb kit, whenever you use Elixir S (That includes Self-Regulating Defenses), and whenever you use Elixir X. The Superior Sigil of Leeching also seems to only have around a 4s CD, so that’s always fun.
One last note, don’t forget about the finishers that the Shield has on it. That blast finisher’s very powerful, especially when combined with the Fire Bomb or someone’s light field, because Area Might and Area Retaliation are always fun.
And for a survivability comparison for you PvEers, this build can easily tank the Risen Priest of Grenth without really caring about the damage. Same goes for bosses such as Subject Alpha in CoE explorable.
If you guys ever see a human Engineer running around in WvW with AC Armor, a devil shield, and a grenade launcher for a pistol, and wearing [FLOT] tags, that’s probably me.

From my experience in dungeons, yes, you will get ungodly amounts of agro from the bosses (for some reason, people like Kholer and Alpha hate Engineers), however, if you know when to dodgeroll and how to manage your damage reduction skills (Elixir S and Elixir R are your friends), you can use that agro to your team’s advantage. I’ve had a few times in dungeons where I would manage to pull a boss off of a downed teammate so he could be revived.
Yes, you will run into people that will reject you from dungeon groups for being an Engineer, although I’ve never had the misfortune of meeting those people myself. Yes, you won’t be quite as effective as other professions doing your role. However, for whatever you spec your Engineer as, you’ll be able to excell with a lot of skill, and just a little luck.

I heard about that, but what exactly was going on when the kick happened? I heard it had to do with capping something.

Well, to counteract all the negativity, I have to give props to HoD for some really fun fights in their BL last night. 30 vs 30 is quite intense, no?
[YOHO] – Its a Pirate Life for Me
No, no it doesn’t. It makes those sigils useless for an Engineer.

I can’t say much in the way of leveling, since it’s been forever since I got my Engie to 80, and my skill loadout has changed much since then, but from my experience in dungeons, turrets are mostly useless, save probably the healing turret. Most of the turrets tend to die in one or two hits from anything in a dungeon and tend to attract a lot of agro as well. Although, if you get the trait that causes turrets to do damage and knockback when they explode, they’re helpful as a free Big Ol’ Bomb.
Grenades are, as far as I can tell, our best option DPS-wise, especially once you get the Grenadier trait, which causes you to throw a third grenade and throw them further (from 1200 to 1500), causing them to be our longest ranged attack. However, as with any kit, you need to get proficient at switching between your kit and your main weapon, as you lose any of the stat bonuses, as well as the sigils, that your main weapons give you when you’re using a kit. As a sidenote, grenades are really good at destroying structures (such as the graveling burrows in AC).
The wrench is just about useless. It has a pull, nails (which work like caltrops), a shield, and a strong toolbelt skill, but frankly, it could easily be replaced by another utility skill without losing much at all.
The flamethrower is pretty good if you plan on going melee range, or if you ever think you’re going to be the one taking most of the damage, as there’s a trait that gives you +200 toughness and stacks of might whenever you have the flamethrower out.
Also, in my opinion, Elixir R is a must have when you’re in a dungeon. The stun breaker and the endurance refill from the main skill is nice, but the Toss Elixir R is why I bring it whenever I go into a dungeon. Not only does it cure a condition when it first hits a person, but it also creates a light field and pulses every second, with each pulse giving a downed person 20% of their downed health. It’s a great revive, especially if you get it on someone right after they go down, as they’re almost instantly up again. Plus it can be used to get yourself back up if you throw it at your feet right before you go down.
I can’t say much about PvP, since I haven’t done much of it myself, but those are my thoughts on Engineers in dungeons. I hope they’re helpful, and if I’ve messed something up, one of you other Engineers out there feel free to correct me.

Portal Master, you don’t know how happy it makes me to know that I’m not the only one singled out by birds. And Lurock Turoth, you know I’ve saved your kitten many times in dungeons, weakest link my kitten

Is it just me, or do birds seem to hate Engineers? I don’t mean birds like Moas, I mean the birds that are summoned by skills such as what is on the Ranger’s Warhorn. It seems that whenever I’m fighting an enemy that’s able to summon birds, such as the last boss of HotW story mode, the birds latch onto my face and don’t let go. Hell, I could just be standing still and not attacking the guy at all, when suddenly there are fifteen thousand birds on my face, tearing it off. I’m surprised that the birds summoned by friendly Rangers don’t go and attack me. In fact, birds hate me so much, that the birds summoned by the Rune of the Mad King only seem to come when I use either the Mortar or my racial elites.
So, I’m asking this of my fellow Engineers, does any of you share my pain? If you do, or even if you don’t, why is it that birds seem to hate me?
